I dont really see good value in any striker below 9M at the moment (Giroud, Defoe). Is this the time to go 5 mids (Phillips/Stanislas etc)?

The further and further I get into this break seems to be pointing more and more towards WC. I really want to save it but feel like my team is in need of a complete overhaul.

I have no Spurs.

Aké will surely be a back-up for Alonso as he can play there. Since he is left-footed he could also be a back-up for Cahill.
His versatility means he could also slot in as a back-up for Kanté/Matic.

Ross McCormack went from Leeds to Fulham for 11m. Goalscorers will always have a big price.
At the very least McCormack had pedigree at that level. Hogan has never played in the PL, spent a lot of time as a League 1 player and is now having a good season in the Championship.
Goalscorers fetch higher prices, but there's no reason to believe Hogan will be a goalscorer in the PL...

I agree. No pointers to say he will score, but he is scoring right now and Brentford want to scare clubs off with a high price so they are compensated. Not saying it's right but it happens often.
Ah yeah I can understand Brentford's position in fairness, just seems weird that Championship clubs are going to start holding PL teams to ransom for players. Seems they're following suit to the European teams and trying to squeeze as much out of PL sides as possible. Makes sense, just some mad valuations.
