Back for 2017, partially refreshed and braced for the season run-in, the ScoutCast returns to herald a new leader in the Fantasy Football Scout Hall of Fame.

With the legend that is Ville Ronka toppled, Granville, Jonty, Andy and myself start by doffing our cloth caps to the brand new name at the top – Jay Egersdorff.

An advocate of the 3-5-2, Jay provides the springboard for the episode’s big discussion, as we revisit the merits of a formation change to a “power five” midfield, while considering a big spend on a four-man defence.

Your community questions supply the rest of the ammunition, as we chew over rising stars Alli, Giroud and the fading stock of Hazard and Aguero and, against better judgment, we even touch on Nyomgate until Jonty swoops to pull the plug.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link or the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Walker, Alonso, Jones, Holebas, Amat

    Sanchez, Lallana, Walcott, Philips, Fletcher

    Ibra, Costa, Defoe

    Cheers mates!

      Fletcher to Stanislas maybe ? Would be good cover if Walcott doesn't play. He isn't much more than Fletcher but offer a much more of an attacking output. I'd play Stanislas over Phillips this week too....In fact I am 🙂

    Yes, some late night listening - the sultry tones of Mr Suthern!

    Lost on last article -

    Thoughts on this WC chaps?

    Heaton (Jakup)
    Baines, Daniels, Rose (Brunt, Yoshi)
    Alexis, Alli, Lallana, Stanislas (Phillips)
    Costa, Giroud, Ibra

    Don't like Lallana but not sure these a good alternative at that price!

      close to my team....Im going with Fraser in lieu of Stanislas, but Fraser is currently under yellow flag. I thought Fraser was impressive in last several games. Fraser could free up .4, which could be used elsewhere...

    Is Callum Wilson still a rotation risk now the Xmas period is over?

    Next 3 fixtures are lovely and I need an Origi replacement.

      Got 2 suggestions:
      1: Antonio + Leko to Phillips and Stanislas? Should be exact money. Gives you a strong off the bench player in Stanislas (although you wanna play him this weekend when Phillips has Spurs)

      2: Antonio to Phillips and get Azpil (or Rose if you fancy Spurs) for Alonso while upgrading Jones to Valencia.
      You would have to ride out the Spurs fixture for Phillips, but people are worried about Alonso gametime, and I think Valencia just is a better option than Jones if you can afford him.

            Heaton;

        Classic from Wenger...always seems to play these injuries down. Even Ozil had a two-week flu bug.

        Can't really explain why it keeps happening - whether he deliberately plays things down and what he has to gain by doing so.

          Can't really understand why anyone would hold Walcott from way back when in all respect to them.

          He was always going to have a fairly short life span the second he got injured was the time to cut for a hit or not he had to go crazy to hold.

      The Standard ran a story earlier in the week - stating that Alonso has had an injury all season. Speculated that it could be worsening.

      I do think there could be something brewing - hence Ake recall and Pedro trialled at wing-back but we need it confirmed by Conte ideally.

        I'll counter your brewing pot by saying that we have no idea whether Aké can actually operate as a wing-back, fair enough he has played as a centre-back and central midfielder(for Bournemouth) and a left-back(Watford last season) but not sure this actually translates into a wing-back.
        And on Pedro, he played left wing-back in the latter stages of the Spurs game so the Cup game could've been more of him getting used to the role so they can use it latter in games rather than a permanent switch.

          Aye, it's not permanent move for Pedro but I wonder if there's something in this Alonso issue.

          The report seems to be purely speculating on the injury worsening, though and follow up reports have said that's it's not stopping Alonso playing.

          Hopefully Conte will be quizzed on this tomorrow.

            Alonso had an ankle injury in Stoke game. He has fallen awkwardly in the moment Cahill scored a goal. He was not 100% fit during Spurs game, that is why Pedro played the wing back. We need to wait what happens but still Conte prefers Alonso there.

              The report refers to a muscle injury in his upper leg, though and states it's been ongoing since his arrival at the club. Doesn't even mention that ankle/foot knock.

                Ok.. didn't know that. Maybe now he uses time to heal. Chelsea will play rarely next month. 3 games in 21 days. Ake looks like back up to him. I can imagine the scenario Ake plays Hull game and Alonso against Liverpool and Leicester. I hope not, but who knows

            Conte should clear it up but for someone who is suffering from an injury issue playing 90 minutes consistently hasn't been a problem, especially over Xmas. Spurs was the first time in 13 gameweeks than he hadn't played the whole 90 minutes.

              Yeah, seems odd and when questioned on Alonso's fitness when that foot/ankle problem surfaced over Xmas, it was not mentioned by Conte as an ongoing concern.

              4th Jan - 10 days break - 14th Jan - 8 days break - 22nd Jan - 9 days break - 31st Jan.

              No apparent reason Alonso couldn't play those even if carrying a niggle. The only question is whether Chelsea decide to give him a period of complete rest to try to recover him completely.

                It's not the playing bit but the fact he plays 90 minutes every time and isn't rested despite covering a lot of ground as a wing-back, that's the bit I find confusing.

                  Chelsea played only 24 games, Alonso 13 complete games plus 2 games 30 and 60 minutes. No way he should be rested.

          That's why Conte said "it’s important to see during training if he can play as a wing-back".

          For all the speculation it all depends how Aké does/did in training this week

    Worth holding Antonio? I don't like the uncertainty and general vibe at West Ham at the moment. Alternative is to play Phillips or bring in Stanislas for 14.

    Surprised to see lukaku so close to a price drop, surely we should be bringing him in not selling? As an owner I'm glad to see my player become more of a differential, but still it's a surprise.

      Aye, I'm coveting Lukaku post Man City. Not sure I can get it him without surgery involving Hazard's departure. Might look at it, though.

        I fancy lukaku to do very well again city, which is why I brought him in this week (for origi). It's a classic lukaku game this, and one that will put off a lot of people bringing him in, but has all the hallmarks of a classic trollkaku.

          I should really keep Benteke. Although I've had him for 3 weeks he was brought in for the fixtures starting last GW.

      Doubt it...looks like a LB option unless Sam is going wing-backs. He might be. Not sure Schlupp is a solid out and out LB - always felt he was an attacking option, certainly Ranieri saw it like that.

        Yea just bought him for Origi and shifting to 352 next week, so need him to play or it will be Fletcher from my bench. You're doing a great job in the fpl show btw, watched it a couple of times and I quite like the dynamic in the video, although it's mainly confirming the players that are topping my watchlist, but I imagine it could be a great help for less experienced managers.

      Should do, after the Cup fiasco 3-5-2 should be back for Stoke too.

      Grant;
      Muniesa, Shawcross, Martins Indi;
      Johnson, Whelan, Allen, Pieters;
      Afellay;
      Walters(or Arnie/Shaq), Crouch.
