It’s quite ironic that, in an episode that focuses on our experience and strategies of mini-league management, my long-term rival on that score goes awol.

Granville is waylaid by “homework” and misses out, but Luke crashes in mid-cast to join Jonty, Andy and myself as we deliver an 80-minute episode, which includes our dubious insights on navigating a team to mini-league glory – mind games and all.

Once again guided by your community questions, we take on the Diego Costa fall-out, the rising stock of Spurs on form and Everton on fixtures, while finding time to wade in on the demise of former darling Sergio Aguero under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Waiting to hear more on Baines injury but Coutinho in for Alli was the plan.

    Would leave me with...

    Heaton
    Chambers - Brunt - Baines
    Coutinho - Pedro - Eriksen - Sanchez - Philips
    Ibrahimovic - Giroud
SUBS: Grant, Crouch, Rose, Daniels, (undecided on starting defenders right now)

    Good transfer?

I will admit, the bench boost loo

Alli has been smashing it and Spurs are on their best form of the season. Coutinho is coming back from an injury and won't be playing 90 week in week out. More midfielders to share points with in the pool midfield imo

    Valdes.
    Alonso. Rose. Brunt.
    Sanchez (C). Alli. Pedro. Phillips.
    Ibra (VC). Kane. Lukaku.

    Heaton. Jones. De Roon. Amat.

Everything in order for the weekend? Still stuck on captaincy dilemma.

    1. kalmoffit
      • 12 Years

A big risk of missing a Heaton haul for the hope that Valdes could get six.

Hmm. Looking at his figures, five hauls in eighteen games played. Boro have 33% chance of clean sheet.

    Heaton Randolph
    Alonso Koscielny Brunt Friend Taylor*
Sanchez Alli Lallana Phillips de Roon
    Ibra Lukaku Benteke

    1 FT, 1.1 itb

Have just enough for Taylor to Daniels. Going to bench boost with that team then, the correct strategy?

Fun stat.. Girouds average fpl score is 8.5 in all the games his played over 21 minutes. Not too bad at all.

Anyway. Who would you bench? currently on:

    Heaton
    Daniels Brunt Jones
    Eriksen Sanchez Hazard Alli Stanislas
    Zlatan Giroud

    Jak Rose Chambers Diomande

You kidding... What about Crouch? 😛

Last 3 games 7 goals to stoke, only 2 to City.. on form, youd say they will be walkovers for spurs lol

Yeah when considering form you're right. I guess I still prefer to look at class rather than form. United have solid defensive form too.

fair point. I do feel jones has a better chance for cleansheet, but rose has that assist potential... So I guess ive made up my mind! Cheers!

But Rose plays on the best defensive side in the league and might be their best defender. To me, Rose is undroppable, so it's a matter of finding someone else to bench.

For sure, I'm just taking the opposition into account here and City have a better attack than Stoke

I've benched Jones as I can see stoke nicking a goal and city getting frustrated by a very well organized and confident spurs side.

I could see him coming back with a bang.. only worry for me though would be getting subbed off around the 60 min mark.. not too sure how his looking after that injury though

Looked very lively in both his 30 minutes against Southampton and his 30 minutes against Manchester United. I didn't really pay much attention to the FA Cup tie against Plymouth but he did come through 60 minutes with no problems.

He probably will get subbed off though after an hour with Liverpool 3-0 up before they go on to score another 3.

If not for 2YC away from 2 match ban then yes. Saying Costa went so many games without getting 5th is silly argument along the lines of 9 coin clips heads the 10th won't be 50/50 chance

He won't play, or his likely position won't affect them? Hull were playing him at centre back early season. Does he figure as an option there?

With baines an injury doubt, is it worth a -4 to swap out one of holebas or amat:

    1) stay
    2) holebas to friend
    3) Amat to friend
    4) holebas to an premium defender
    5) Amat to a premium defender (Arsenal or Spurs)

My current defence are: Alonso brunt baines holebas amat
    0 FT, 1.8mil in bank

That's what I'm thinking however odds say Arsenal have CS odds coming up.

Ah not keen on Defoe's fixtures or not having bench fodder.

Chambers is an option but I could go more expensive.

        Holebas > ?

Fair enough, personally I think Defoe is fixture proof and will just score every so often, but fair enough his fixtures aren't great. Could you afford someone like Rose? I'm not too sure with defenders, I just have Alonso and 4 others below 5.0 like Brunt, Pieters and Chambers, and just rotate them

Unsure who to captain and if any transfers needed 1.7ITB, my team is

    Heaton
    Alonso Brunt Chambers
    Hazard Alli Sanchez Lallana Phillips
    Ibra Giroud

    Subs, Pickford Friend Pieters Anichebe

I know Anichebe needs to go, but whoever I get in is just going to sit on my bench anyway. Any advice would be very much appreciated

What to do with 2 FTs?

    Heaton Jaku
    Alonso Baines Brunt Lovren Amat
    Sanchez Hazard Eriksen Firmino DeRoon
    Kane Defoe Rondon
    2fts, 0.4 itb.

0.1 short of Firmino & Defoe to Pedro & Lukaku. Could have done it earlier in the week, but hesitated because losing Firmino ahead of Swansea at home seems crazy.

    Should I:
    (A) nothing - Let a transfer expire
    (B) Firmino & Defoe -> 6.9 & Lukaku
    (C) Lovren to Jones (sets up the defence well for the next while)
    (D) Something completely different.

    Thanks!

I really like your side. I like B but it's not urgent and saving one transfer might be smart.

But then keeping Lovren as a backup for Baines is good.

Really tough this. Very good team

        I dunno.
        Firmino to Coutinho seems sideways.
Alli looks good, but then I'd be completely priced out of getting Lukaku for Defoe.

I realise that I'll have to wait for news of Costa but what do think of this in principle?

    GW22 Sergio (TOT) > Costa (HULL), 4.5 bench fodder > Phillips -4
GW23 Costa (liv,) > Kane (sun)
GW24 Kane (MID, liv) > Sergio (SWA, bou) & Giroud (che, HUL) > Defoe (cpl, SOT) -4
Other two forwards are Ibra (stk, HUL, lei) and Giroud (BUR, WAT, che).

Perhaps that would be more sensible.

Would mean playing de Roon (WHU) & Allen (MUN) or de Roon and McAuley (SUN) and the way Pep is asking Sergio to play is of concern.

Spending trades every week to remove forwards is absolutely ridiculous. You should be aiming to get players in for at least mid-term. One GW isn't even a short-term transfer, it's tiny.

        • 14 Years

Trying to free up money as short on funds and only real value is in my forwards. Thinking these moves would retain points potential but thanks for the reality check.

Understandable. I've got a somewhat similar plan going on around defender over the next few weeks, trying to shuffle funds to swap Alonso for Walker and then have both. My case is avoiding hits though, I think you would be better off trying to limit the number of transfers here. If anything I would trim off getting Aguero back at the end.
