Manchester City’s front three all get among the points in the first match of their double Gameweek. Elsewhere, Harry Kane and Dele Alli deliver double-figures, and Romelu Lukaku breaches Spurs’ resilient rearguard as Everton prepare for a run of strong home fixtures.

On the Rise

Sergio Aguero
Although we’re not exactly over the moon with a single goal at Sunderland, Aguero’s fifth strike in three keeps his momentum ticking over nicely ahead of Wednesday’s home clash with Stoke City.

The number one transfer target for double Gameweek 27, the Argentine persuaded over 156,000 FPL managers to wield their Triple Captain chip after scoring twice in cup clashes against Monaco and Huddersfield Town in his previous pair of Etihad Stadium outings.

Aguero’s owners will be hoping that history repeats itself in midweek. Back in Gameweek 1, he netted once against Sunderland before squaring up to Stoke in the following league fixture – a match which saw him fire a brace.

Bearing in mind that swashbuckling City notched five times in that recent pair of cup encounters, hopes remain high against a Potters defence that leaked four at White Hart Lane in their previous road trip.

Raheem Sterling
Second only to Aguero for transfers in ahead of the double, the winger maintained his remarkable run of FPL form by setting up the Argentine’s opener.

Sterling has blanked just twice in his last 11 league outings, serving up two goals and nine assists over that period. He has now provided 12 FPL assists for the season – only Christian Eriksen, with 13, has managed more.

It’s not just his output that catches the eye, though – Sterling has now started more league matches than any team-mate under Guardiola. While many will look upon the 12.8-priced Aguero as expendable once the double has passed, the consistent Sterling – at just 7.9 – is making a case to retain for the rest of the run-in, in spite of a blank Gameweek 28.

Leroy Sane
Firing City’s second at the Stadium of Light, the German now has five goals and three assists in his last eight starts across all competitions.

While Aguero and Sterling proved far popular picks, Sane – with a mere 3.3% ownership – has emerged as a canny differential for the double, with today marking a fifth successive start in the top-flight.

The summer signing has played all but two minutes over that run after being subbed off on 88 minutes this afternoon – given that Sterling has played from start to finish in just one of those fixtures, it’s a clear sign of Sane’s growing importance to Pep’s plans in the final third.

With worries over his pitch time now seemingly dispelled, those holding the 7.6-priced Sane may well consider retaining if they can cope without his absence in Gameweek 28.

Harry Kane
Shrugging off a minor knock in time to face the Toffees, the Spurs frontman continued his fine recent form with a two-goal haul in today’s early kick-off.

With many understandably prioritising double Gameweek 27 assets, Kane was drafted in just only 47,000+ FPL managers despite bagging a season-high 20-point return against Stoke last Sunday.

Today’s opener, in particular, illustrates a player whose confidence is sky-high right now, yet the bandwagon will continue to remain on ice as Spurs are, of course, without a fixture in Gameweek 28 due to FA Cup Quarter Final commitments.

Looking at the schedule from Gameweek 29, though, Kane is likely to become an integral part of our three-man frontlines, with Spurs squaring up to Southampton, Burnley, Swansea City, Watford, Bournemouth and Leicester City in the subsequent six.

Dele Alli
While Christian Eriksen suffered a rare blank at the Lane, Alli punished the 106,000 FPL managers who offloaded him for Gameweek 27.

With Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen both passed fit, Mauricio Pochettino was able to retain his 3-4-2-1 set-up, with Alli grabbing a goal and assist thanks to his central support berth behind Kane.

Now up to 13 goals and six assists for the season, Alli’s ascent up the FPL standings has taken him to second spot in the midfield pecking order behind Alexis Sanchez – all the more impressive given that he only scored three times in the first 16 Gameweeks.

While Eriksen continues to rely on assists – he’s now failed to score in 11 straight Gameweeks – Alli’s cutting edge may now see him emerge as the go-to Spurs midfield option for the run-in once we’ve navigated that upcoming blank.

Romelu Lukaku
Despite boasting a Gameweek 28 fixture – at home to West Brom – the Everton frontman was surprisingly dumped by over 161,000 FPL managers ahead of the trip to White Hart Lane.

To an extent, it was understandable – Spurs had conceded just once in their previous seven at home, while Lukaku had failed to score in his last four road trips.

Yet a strike against Pochettino’s troops took the Belgian’s tally to six goals in the last four Gameweeks ahead of four very promising Goodison fixtures (WBA, HUL, LEI, BUR) in the next six.

Already, over 27,000 have turned to Lukaku since yesterday’s deadline, and that upcoming schedule indicates he’s likely to remain prominent in many managers’ plans until a Gameweek 33 clash with the Clarets has passed.

In Decline

Kevin De Bruyne
Considering that no City player had started more league matches than the Belgian prior to today’s match, it’s fair to say that his exclusion from Pep Guardiola’s starting XI took many by surprise.

Having rested David Silva and Yaya Toure against Huddersfield in midweek, the City manager chose to unleash De Bruyne from the bench – disappointing the 6,937 FPL managers who took the bold decision of Triple Captaining him.

Conversely, today’s teamsheet certainly strengthens De Bruyne’s chances of starting at home to Stoke on Wednesday night but on a day where Sterling and Sane illustrated their mid-price value, the 10.5-priced Belgian left his owners once again disappointed.

Jermain Defoe
The most transferred out forward ahead of Gameweek 27, the veteran’s failure at home to City means that he has netted in just one of the last six league outings.

With the Black Cats set to miss Gameweek 28, Defoe is second only to Zlatan Ibrahimovic for sales up front since yesterday as the exodus picks up pace.

Nonetheless, a kind batch of fixtures from Gameweek 29 suggests that Defoe may still have a say – David Moyes’ men are handed home clashes with Burnley and West Ham in addition to trips to Watford and Leicester in four of the subsequent five.

Ademola Lookman
The winger’s run of three straight starts came to an end as Ronald Koeman named him amongst the subs for the trip to Spurs.

Priced at just 5.4 in FPL, Lookman had emerged as a viable, short-term means of navigating the decimated Gameweek 28 schedule after recently clambering ahead of Kevin Mirallas in the Toffees’ pecking order.

Yet while the Belgian benefitted from a second-half sub appearance to provide the assist for Everton’s second, Lookman warmed the bench from start to finish for the first time since arriving from Charlton.

Frustratingly, the winter signing boasted some strong underlying numbers but today’s teamsheet suggests that the pricier Ross Barkley – who earned the assist for the Merseysiders’ opening goal – remains the safest route into Koeman’s midfield ahead of those abovementioned home fixtures.

I was smug Saturday morning - my main rival had NO City players.

He is now above me for the first team this season. he has Kane (C), Alli, Firmino and Mane.

      Disaster.

      I think so yeah.

No blank is a big plus and the arguably better fixture is still to come. Just have to hope he starts 🙂

One more goal could put him into a standard hat trick score - I'm good with getting that. Anything else is a bonus.

Haha, asked something similar on the last page

No, not really - better than a blank, but that's not great as a goal but no more was also what non-TCers were after. Really need an explosion vs. Stoke to ensue to justify the TC - at the moment, main ML rival is only 5 points behind me in terms of GW score.

I do feel like the argument for doing it was convincing. Just got to treat it as a "bare minimum" result at what's effectively half time and hope it really pays off against Stoke.

If Pep plays his best team (as follows) there could be an explosion:

        Caballero
        Fernandinho Stones Otamendi Clichy
        KDB Toure Silva
        Sterling Aguero Sane

That midfield three together make a massive difference IMO.

Until the week is done I don't know if I will have gained much. I would have had Kane still, but on the other hand I definitely would have captained Ibra... So it's..

      Ibra(c) + Hazard + Kane
      vs
      Ibra + Aguero(TC) + Sterling (-4)

Not sure why Sunderland is considered a tougher fixture. They are the poorest team in the PL. Concede lots of goals and have been getting worse. Stoke on the other hand are slowly improving. Yes City are at home, but City have scored more goals away from home this season.

normally you are right but did you watch the game? Sunderland played well, esp. first half, so they 'deserved' to loose only 0-2. Another problem was YYT, hope KDB comes in for him vs STK, will make a difference in terms of tempo

50/50. What worries me for the STK game is that he did not get too many chances and never looked like he could explode. But you also have to give Sunderland credit. Especially first half they played well.

As a non owner I am pretty happy as the juicier fixture has passed without much damage. Stoke may have conceded 4 at WHL but that is a one-off as Spurs are a real force at home. I think Stoke are underestimated on here.

Having used it on Lukaku last year I'm relieved that he didn't blank. I always thought the Stoke game would be the easier of the two, even if he gets the same again I'll be happy with that. The 25 pointers from Aguero and Sanchez last season spoilt us!

Not really. 2 bonus points (6 for TCers) already lost. He had his chances and Pickford made a fantastic save. Fingers crossed he gets all 3 against Stoke. We could say "at least he didn't blank" but yeah, slightly disappointed.

The way I'm looking at it is by scoring already he's already reduced the amount of "fail" that is likely to come from this. Let's say that Sanchez later on scores 30 points. You have to bear in mind that you can still captain him, just not triple captain.

Even if Aguero doesn't score in the next game and just gets 2 points and then Sanchez scores 30 you're around 21 points worse off - it's not the end of the world.

I'm not saying it's good but it's not the end of the world. Very difficult to get 30 points guaranteed from a TC when you're only limited to a few game weeks to put it on.

Plus my scenario was based on Aguero doing nothing but getting 2 points.

Exactly the same here. Have him as captain but not TC. Couldn't decide whether I wanted him to score or not. Roughly 25% own him and I'm sure most of them (apart from dead teams) will have captained him and of those 60% (a rough assumption) will have TC him.
At the moment I'm happy with the 7 points so far but don't want an explosion in stoke game (have grant as well). Rank gone up 75k but all my 3 mini league rivals have TC him.

Spurs failed to score at away to Sunderland. Aguero was unlucky not to score more. Some terrible crosses from Sagna, Sterling, Clichy prevented him from scoring more. Also Sane should have passed to Aguero instead of going by himself, in second half (not the goal one).

          I'm pretty happy.

My TC last year was Payet who got two assists and 3 bonus in one game, and nothing in the other = 13 points (39)

Agueros already on 7 points with a game to go, one goal and one bps would beat that, he's more than capable of achieving it.

Some people captained Carroll last year, now that's pain. It's hard to get captains right each week, let alone triple captains.. i'm just glad he started and didn't get crocked. I'll take the goal and any other points that come his way.

Owning Kun did not preclude owning Mane, Alli, Kane, Firmino etc., so those that did own them as well as Kun TC must be putting up a cricket score

Quite frankly I am amazed that so many are unhappy.

I triple-capped Lukaku in GW33 last season for no returns, but it doesn't matter if I got it wrong or nailed it last year, it has no relevance to this season.

For folk that are unhappy, they seem to have high expectations on nailing their TC chip with the highest scoring player in their team for the whole season. Even on a weekly basis, we don't normally achieve this with our captain.

Aguero has already got 7 points from the harder of the 2 fixtures he is playing in the DGW, and could have easily returned more, so the potential we all played it for was evident. If he gets another goal in the Stoke game, I will be very happy.

Put it another way, if you could now remove the TC chip and save it for another GW, would you? I certainly would not.

          yep.
Scored. Played well and Pickford had to make a couple of good saves.
So he looks ready for Stoke. Another goal or 2 and well happy.
Stoke away from home against top sides concede - an early goal on Wed and could again concede 3 or 4. So chances are Kun will be involved in the points.
Sterling assist and Kun goal yesterday jumped me 140k in rankings.
And he still seems to be a reasonable differential in TC terms to make a difference. Maybe plenty on here TC'd him but not so many in the game as a whole.

          Yes, I think so.

Captaincy is always a gamble, as is using the TC, so to get a goal away from home with a very decent home game to come is satisfactory.

Perhaps ask again after the Stoke game....

Davies > Mane (-4) seems like an obvious transfer, but switching one non-blank player for another seems silly when I've got plenty of blank players, but all the blankers I have are keepers for at least the medium term:

        Pickford
        Alonso, Jones,
        Sane, Sterling
        Aguero, Kane

Martial has regressed this season for whatever reason. Got 17 goals (I think) last season and was your top scorer. It's probably down to inconsistency in game time but I think he has a bit of an attitude issue - which Mourinho has touched on previously somewhat.

The finishing is brutal. I'd level a lot of it at the midfield, did a bit on this a number of weeks ago and essentially, compared to other top 6, United have significantly fewer goals from midfield. I don't think it's changed that much. Ibra should do better with some of his chances too, but the lack of goals is coming from all areas of the pitch.

I am predicting an uptick in goalscoring with Ibra out. Ibra slows the game down so much. Fine if you put it on his head or find him near the six yard box, both otherwise he does not help Utd IMO.

Looking forward to seeing Mkhi, Pogba and Mata supporting Rsahford in attack.

Ibra only finishes when it is put on a plate for him. The problem Utd have is the bus is generally parked against them and so they find it harder to score. Look at City yesterday - two goals from quickish breaks. You don't get that with Utd as much when Ibra plays. Watch Utd start scoring on the transition phase now Ibra is out.

Everyone affected by this weekend's FA Cup will get a DGW - but it's likely they'll all be GW37.

The other outstanding fixtures are from the League cup final - Arsenal v Southampton and the Manchester derby at the Etihad. Likely GW34, depending on European progress.

          2) Swansea have some decent form

My current thinking is Holebas to Olsson. Both would be my 4th non-playing defender going forwards and would save me £0.1m. I also have Amat but happy to keep him as bench fodder until wildcard.

        3. Pep says
          • 10 Years

Depends who you are dropping. Amat or another not starter maybe.
Put it this way, I have Cedric. I could ship for Mawson but Cedric has great fixtures in 30,31 and 32. He's playing good attacking football and Gabbi is now in the middle to convert some of the chances he's been creating. He could also have an early double. So to me, shipping Cedric for the sake of a gw28 isnt the right move.
I have gone -8 for Ibra Kun Stan to Kaku, Llorente and Mane. This has to be worth it in my eyes. 2/3 of Liverpool mids covered, I want Kaku going forward and to captain in 28 and Llorente will hold a place for Gabbi. Have 3.4 itb to get Sanchez for Cout/Mane.

Thanks. I would probably transfer out Holebas who continues to score me 0/1 whenever he plays. The player moving in would probably be 1st bench sub going forwards.

Agreed on hits for decent attacking players. I already have Lukaku, Mane, Sig and Firmino. Not totally sold on Llorente for the Swansea double up going forwards.

Who's the Best player for 3rd forward spot after GW28 :

          A) Gabbiadini
          B) Llorente
          C) Deeney

A If you don't own B or C. Not worth transferring out either of the others for though.

Hindsight really is 20:20....livid with myself for removing Lukaku instead of Ibra for Kun. Did Alli instead of Eriksen due to rival owning Alli and me trying to gain ground, but the hokey cokey transfer of Lukaku for hits was just plain silly really....oh well

Easy to say it was silly now. If Ibra hauled, it would have been the right decision. Just got unlucky, I'm in the same boat.
Went Mane Phillips Kaku to Coutinho Carroll and Kun TC. Dropped Mane cause I didn't wanna drop Alli, which paid off. The Mané move didn't but I needed the funds. Had I done Phillips Ibra to Carroll Kun (had the exact funds), I'd be nearly 30 pts better off but hey.. Damage done. Hindsight is pointless

Ya I hear you bro, just feels i'm making the wrong decisions (or right decisions/wrong result) lately and is costing me big time in my fight to catch my rival......didn't help that he also TC'd Kun and kept Kane and Alli 🙁

I know, I've made a bad decision every week over the last 3 but my logic seemed right and I've been unlucky. Sanchez handball goal and last minute peno, Ibra -1,Erik to Mane, missed Erik 11pts, Mane to Coutinho, missed Mane 13 pts.

I believe the consensus is the semi-finalists would play GW34 fixtures mid-week the same gameweek.

Some fixtures will be postponed for GW34 due to the FA Cup semi finals, but some/all those games may be arranged for the midweek of GW34 (so negating the blanks), or the other games that need re-arranging due to FA Cup quarters and LC final could be put in that slot as well. Simply put, we are not sure, and anything you hear otherwise at this stage is guesswork.

Nope - 34 and 37 are the only free midweeks, but as Man City v Stoke this week suggests, matches can be played when there are European games on (though obviously if the team in question is not playing in Europe themselves!)

Yes, if you cant field full team then get players you think can easily score big. Its only -2 really, one assist and you will gain. Not to talk about 10+score from one of them who is not that unlikely...

Prefer Alli. They'll be in and out with eachother for the rest of the season but Alli gets the goals. Great finish again last night. Would like to know when Rose will be back, Davies a nice alternative for much cheaper. Seems to be adapting to the roll nicely

If Ibra's banned i'm considering Kun and Ibra to Lukaku and Llorente for a hit (then Llorente to Kane for GW29) . It it worth using AOA with Phillips a doubtful starter ?

              Jak (Foster)
              Coleman, Baines (Amat, Jones, Alsonso)
              Mane, Coutinho, Siggy, Phillips, T.Carroll

Llorente isn't worth the hit for one game. He will HAVE to score to make it worth it. I wouldn't unless you wanna ship Gray to Kane. It would be worth it then but not for 1 week

I'm happy with my 8-man team for GW28.

                          Jaku / Coleman / Mawson / Siggy / Antonio / Firmino (C) / T. Carroll / Lukaku (VC)

I plan to anyway make 4 transfers over the next three weeks to get in Kane, Sanchez, Gabbiadini and Pedro/Alli, so whether I roll FT and do it next week or do it now it makes no difference. This way I could also beat the drop on Ibra and rise on Gab.
