Eden Hazard and Diego Costa find their feet away from home and punish the legions of Fantasy Premier League managers who dismissed them ahead of Gameweek 27. Elsewhere, Manuel Lanzini’s late goal blinked the Argentine on the Gameweek 28 radar, while causing yet more frustration in Chelsea’s defensive assets.

Here’s the Stock Check following Monday’s action…

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
Without a goal away from home since the Gameweek 14 victory at the Etihad, the Belgian overcame concerns of his form on the road to convert Chelsea’s counter-attacking opener.

The 11 points – Hazard’s seventh double-figure return of the season – took him to 163 points, second only to Alexis Sanchez overall.

With an aggressive chase for Manchester City assets taking place prior to this Gameweek and a blank to come, Hazard had suffered more than 179,000 sales prior to the London Stadium visit.

But with a double Gameweek to be scheduled and kind short-term fixtures against Stoke City and Crystal Palace, Hazard surely remains in our thoughts for the run-in.

With doubts surrounding Arsenal’s form and a seemingly unsettled Sanchez, the Belgian’s stock as a heavy-hitter midfield asset appears strengthened and we’re likely to see his ownership rise again once Gameweek 28 has passed.

Diego Costa
The Spain international doubled up with Hazard to punish the thousands of FPL managers who traded their Blues assets for City acquisitions.

More than 156,000 moved Costa out of their squads in the scramble for Sergio Aguero and, while that’s a move that could, and should, return profit, the Chelsea man nonetheless issued a reminder that he cannot be easily dismissed.

Monday’s effort, a simple tap in from a Cesc Fabregas corner, was his first goal on the road since a Gameweek 17 headed winner at Crystal Palace.

Despite the perception that Costa has struggled to keep pace with Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane, he has returned a goal or an assist in four of his last six Gameweek starts.

Nonetheless, doubts remain on his ability to “explode” double-digit returns.

Costa produced nine points on Monday and has broken the 10-point barrier on just three occasions; Lukaku and Kane have supplied six double-figure returns apiece.

Manuel Lanzini
A strike at the death proved a bitter blow to those FPL managers holding Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso and his defensive team-mates, but it also offered further indication of the Argentine’s recent form.

While we will still likely focus on the appeal of the returning Michail Antonio for the Gameweek 28 visit to Bournemouth, Lanzini at 6.3 to Antonio’s 6.9, clearly has the potential to provide an effective differential.

With three goals and a trio of assists in his last six Gameweek starts, Lanzini certainly makes a case to supersede Robert Snodgrass as the option to undercut Antonio.

Snodgrass has delivered one assist in his four Hammers’ starts so far, despite creating nine chances – more than any of his team-mates over that four-match spell.

But the Scot has lagged behind in terms of goal threat. Lanzini has fired in 12 efforts on goal over the last four Gameweeks, compared to Snodgrass’ disappointing contribution of just five attempts.

In Decline

Marcos Alonso
Established as the go-to option in the Chelsea defence around these parts, Alonso is beginning to cause some concern following the Blues’ run of five Gameweeks without a clean sheet. Lanzini’s late goal means that Antonio Conte’s rearguard has kept just two shut-outs in their last nine outings.

Attacking returns have also somewhat dried up over that spell, with the Spaniard contributing a single goal over his last six outings – his last assist was back in Gameweek 19.

But patience is perhaps a worthy policy; Chelsea have strong short-term fixtures and Monday night again saw the Spaniard bomb forward on occasions, earning four penalty area touches – only Costa (five) manager more for the Blues.

Ultimately, our degree of patience shown in Alonso and the Chelsea back four may depend on the “cost of sale” and a reluctance to abandon a prime defensive asset prior to a Chelsea double Gameweek.

Winston Reid
Hobbling off on 68 minutes with what appeared to be an ankle problem, the Kiwi is now an early doubt for West Ham’s visit to Bournemouth in Gameweek 28.

With two goals and three assists to his name, Reid is arguably the key asset for those considering a Hammers defensive acquisition.

Any absence would cast real doubt on investment elsewhere, with Cheikhou Kouyate or James Collins likely to deputise alongside Jose Fonte.

Slaven Bilic’s defence have not kept a clean sheet on their travels since Gameweek 8, a factor that should perhaps be considered when weighing up the merits of Bournemouth’s Josh King as a short-term purchase.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Coutinho Firmino Alli Sanchez
    Kane Lukaku Llorente

How does that look for a front 7 until wildcard time?

If you get Pedro, you will transfer him out 100% over the next two-three weeks. The moment players like him don't perform for 1 game, you start think about his early subs, his nailedon-ness, random rotation risks etc. They may score but remember, they are always a short term transfer.

Nice. I am going with the following from GW29 / 30:

      Hennessey
      Vertonghen - Luiz - Baines
      Sanchez - Firmino - Alli - Siggy
      Kane - Lukaku - Llorente

Grant - Fernandez - De Roon - Holgate

Liverpool can score against anyone. Arsenal and Spurs fixtures get very good. Siggy / Llorente are shortish term punts.

That's really annoying , as I was hoping the £0.1 to be earned from Llorente would allow me swapping out Holgate. Add to that I shipped KAne over Ibra for this GW 🙁 One may always hope that sufficiently high number of WC'ers will mean he doesn't rise

I was going to move Kane to Llorente for a hit but wasn't sure it would pay for itself and I would move Llorente back out 29/30 anyway; so glad Kane may rise while sitting on my bench

2 hits (transfers highlighted) gets me this for 28:

    Jaku
    Baines Coleman McAuley
    Coutinho* Siggy* Mane
    Lukaku Llorente* Rondon

Foster Alonso Chambers Eriksen De Roon

Are the 2 hits worth it or should I bench Kun or Alli (definitely ditching Sterling)?

I'm not sure the Lorente one is worth it for a hit. You might end up stuck with him as Rondon needs to go next.

I think both work nowadays. Plenty of good options for a 3rd striker, Gabby, Deeney, Defoe and loads of cheaper mids with City and Pedro etc.

Any suggestions on what to do with this team for GW28 – I have 1ft and willing to go -4 (maybe even -8 if there is justification)

I have one eye on Ibra’s ban but could wait to move him on for GW29 – Worried over Holgate’s lack of minutes and the return of Butland, plus no guarantee over Phillips

    1.6M in the bank

    Grant – Pickford
    Mawson – Coleman – Alonso – Brunt – Holgate
    Siggy – Antonio – Phillips – Sterling – Alli
    Carroll – Ibra - Aguero

    Jaku, Mannone
McAuley, F. Mori, Robertson, Chambers, Amat
    Hazard, Mané, Carroll, Can, Sterling
    Aguero, Ibra, Lukaku

Have now 8 players with risky Can...

    Is it worth for -4?
    Ibra & Sterling -> Llorente & Firmino

    Leaves me with 10 players...

For GW29 then Llorente -> Kane with FT...

    Would you go with that???

      Llorente for me

In form, has Siggy delivering to him regularly, focal point of attack, good fixtures. Plus, Swansea look very dangerous in attack under the new management

Carrol has the fixtures, but I think WH haven't really sorted their game out yet. Plus, with Carroll in the team, WH become very singular in their approach - and it's easy to counter (Chelsea bringing on bigger defenders/mids to counter it)

Plus, Snoddy is in shambles, the crosses have been very poor so far and there's a very good chance Anotnio gets on the header rather than Carroll

I'be been burnt so many times for Caroll. I'm almost thinking of the next couple of games as a dgw and last time I had him in one of those it was a disaster.

Carroll 19/10 anytime scorer, Llorente 5/2.

So both are pretty poor option really for a one week punt. If there was a full set of fixtures this week, neither would likely to be close for consideration.

    Hi all,

Here goes, first shot at getting some much-needed advise. Current squad:

    (Grant), (Hennesey)

    Baines, Brunt, Mawson, (Holebas), (PvA)

Siggy, Antonio, Barkley, Mané (c), (Stanislas?)

    Lukaku, Rondon, (Aguero)

With 1 FT. I am planning WC'ing leading up to GW 30, so need to fine-tune my squad for the next 2 rounds.

    What to prioritize for GW28? Currently have 9 players playing (assuming no Stanislas). Some considerations;

    A. Grant->Mignolet (will let Hennesey play GW29
    B. Stanislas -> King (2 good home games in 28-29)
    C. Kun -> Llorente
    D. PvA->Clyne

or a combination of one of A. + B/C/D for -4 to ensure 11 players in GW 28.

Thanks for your help - much appreciated.

You mean for GW29? By GW29 I'll play Hennessey at home to Watford, and after that I will WC. So GK decision is mostly for GW 28.

Also think King is a good shout for the next two GWs..

Right, in classic Bubz style I have made some transfers early because I can't be arsed thinking about it anymore. This is my team for this week (-8)

      Foster
      Coleman, Brunt, Amat
      Mane, Coutinho, Siggy, Lanzini, Carroll
      Lukaku(C)

Pickford, Aguero, Kane, Alonso, Holebas... 0.0ITB

I sold Sterling, Phillips (sick of him) and Capoue. Should do a reasonable job for this week I reckon.

I would have waited on Phillips news then. I think he will be fit and therefore you are taking a -4 (not a -2) which changes the calculation over the week IMO. Lanzini will need to deliver a goal if Phillips is fit. May happen, but more of a punt IMO.

After wanting points from Phillips all this while, I now somehow have flipped 180 and want him injured so that I can replace him for a "-2". Him being out also helps my GW29 transfer. No doubt now though that he'll be fit for GW28, will get me 2 points and will block my GW29 transfer.

      Gabbiadini or Defoe post-blank?

Gabbiadini looks like a real poacher, is cheaper, and plays for the better team, but Defoe has great fixtures, is the only Sunderland player who scores, and gets 3 bonus every time he scores...

Is no one concerned with Liverpools consistency? We are so so patchy. Plus do we really have the fixtures?
It's a tough start with BUR at home, we have a couple of plum games in Man City and Everton but then the fixtures turn.
      BOU sto wba CPL.
Can't see much from that lot but the city and Everton games should bring a lot of success.

Liverpool back in the groove now. Unfortunate against Leicester as clearly the break was too long and needed some match practice. But all those FA Cup games and EFL cup games gone now so playing once a week should mean the squad can cope.

I don't think we're back in the groove at all. It's hardly a good pattern of results.

Here's my team for GW 28 (11 playing), need help on a few things:

      Heaton (Foster)
      McAuley Fonte Coleman Mawson (Love)
      Siggy Snoddy Mane Fletcher (Alli)
      Kaku Llorente (Ibra)

      1. How do I get rid of WB players? Specifically, who do you bring in for McAuley and Foster?
      2. Llorente to Gabbi or Defoe in 2 weeks? (I'm getting Kane for Ibra)

        1. You don't get rid of both if you can afford to bench them.
        2. I'm in the Defoe camp but Gabbi is the man in form.
        3. No, but he's so consistent.

I would be happy keeping Foster on the bench, but Heaton has some horrible away fixtures. McAuley I could hang on to tillthe fixtures change, but seems like a waste

Gabbi for me at the moment, but Sunderland fighting to stay up guarantees Defoe getting some goals

Hahaha, first Aguero and now Sanchez on the essential question - this season has been a roller-coaster. Won't get him till after the international break I guess

Have Mané & Phillips in mid for gw28

So who would you get in to field alongside them?

      A) Coutinho (His shots might be the deal vs a deep Burnley)
      B) Firmino (The real troll, but might be in form and linking well with Mané)
      C) Siggy (Have Llorente, and vs. strong Hull away)
      D) Lanzini (Form, but rotation risk with Antonio back???)

Definitely not B. If you want a pool mid just for this week it has to be Coutinho. Leave Firmino for the big clubs. I'd go simple though and get Siggy. His ownership could sink you.

sane and kun t/c. took out eriksen&kane{kane would of been cap}=28pts
        sane+kun =31pts- 4=27,1pt worse off!
if they just play and get nothing,=8pts,so trans, and t/c would of been for 7 pts!
need kun goal or 2,bonus etc, and sane to chip in again to make it worthwhile
