In our final article of the evening, we check in on the Opta data in the first members’ article of the Gameweek, pinpointing some of the most impressive performers over the ten fixtures so far.

Delving into the numbers, our attentions turn to in-form midfielders from Everton and West Ham ahead of a reduced Gameweek 28.

Swansea and Southampton both supply us with a pair of eye-catching assets, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s numbers come under analysis as his owners take to the transfer market in light of today’s suspension.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

          ya its moving away from a confirmed decision but he is still arsenal's most explosive player and will get points so id still be leaning towards getting him in gw29 or gw30

            Think I'll monitor him in 29 (the Lincoln game doesn't count) You cant teach self motivation. His effort level will tell me what I need to know

              I was considering the same because there is an international break also after gw29 so might be better to monitor him and bring him in gw 30 or 31. His price is an issue though it forces you to buy early I waited earlier this season and he went up 0.6 by the time I was able to buy him.

      So... I'm thinking they have just done something very crude like doubling the thresholds during the DGWs and then reverting them to normal afterwards.

      Kane rising ahead of a blank is utterly bizarre though.

    Why NOT to add more categories for bonus points? 5 bonus for longest run, 4 bonus for most touches, 3 for winning goal...minus 1 for hitting post ,,,etc.. You get my point?

            I'm not necessarily agreeing with you though 😆

            I think bonus points should be awarded to the players that have had the most influence in getting a result for their side... they should be reducing some of the criteria not adding seemingly irrelevant ones like longest run (dribble)... I don't think players should be rewarded for that

    If a player is 0.1 less than his current price in my team and drops, will he drop in my team too, or only drop once the price gets to the price he is in my team?

    E.g. if some one is 5.5 in my team, but 5.6 in the market and looking to drop, will he drop to 5.4 in my team (when dropping to 5.5), or will he only drop in my team when he gets below 5.5 in the market?

    I used to think they had to go below the price they were in my team, but I remember losing value as soon as some players dropped, even though they were more expensive than they were in my team.

    1. Pierce34
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 9 months ago

      This all sounds a bit confused - it all depends on how much you bought them for. If you buy someone at 5.5 and their current price is 5.9, your selling price is 5.7. If they drop to 5.8, your selling price drops to 5.6. If they drop again, however (to 5.7), your selling price remains at 5.6.

      If they keep dropping to below the price you bought them for, your selling price will keep dropping 0.1 with every 0.1 drop.

      SP = PP + {(CP-PP)/2}
      rounded DOWN to the decimal value

      Eg1 : pp 5.2, cp 5.8,
      Sp= 5.2 + { (5.8-5.2)/2}= 5.2+ (0.6/2)=5.2+0.3= 5.5

      Eg2: pp 5.2, cp 5.7,
      Sp= 5.2 + {(5.7-5.2)/2}= 5.2+(0.5/2)= 5.2+0.25 = 5.45
      Which is rounded down to 5.4

    Messing around with a potential WC team:
    A. Could doubling up on MUN defence pay off for their packed fix list?
    B. Thinking of going without ARS for a while, too risky?
    C. Kane/Lukaku/Costa, too much up top?
    D. Thoughts on getting in cheap SOT players for bench?

    Draft 1
    de Gea
    Valencia / Alonso / Mawson
    Eriksen / Mane / Siggy / King
    Kane / Lukaku / Costa
    (Pickford, Maguire, Yoshida, Romeu)

          He did it during Liverpool match too when they were 2 down, so it wasn't just one brief moment. Neither of us are clairvoyant so we don't know what his thinking was, but even if it was as you say, incredulous disbelief, that's still quite petulant and won't sit well with many fans. The papers and media have picked up on it.

          Add that to reaching a stalemate on contract talks, then a reported training ground bustup last week, and being subsequently benched against a league rival on the weekend.
          Then there's also the fact that Giroud has started up front in the last 2 with Sanchez on the wing and presumably Giroud ahead of him on pens.
          So with all of that combined, putting him straight back into our FPL teams next week isn't the same easy decision it was a couple of weeks ago.

    For those getting Llorente for a hit from Kun or Costa or Kane, keep in mind that It may not be just be -2, since Llorente may not be a long term solution. If you want Kun back or another big Forward in week 29, you will use the free transfer and then getting out some of the so so week 28 players (Phillips, Stanislas, Daniels, Baines) for Pool mids or Valencia or Walker or Alonso will cost you another hit that you would not have needed if you had never got rid of Kun or another big time forward.

        I suppose that would work- all depends on total value too as a front line of Kaku Kun Kane is expensive... but Sanchez may not be Sanchez with all going on with Arsenal so the pricey mids may not be as much a value and pricey Forwards may be the new rage.

      It's for that reason I have decided against getting him. I have T.Carroll (enabler) and Siggy as it is, so I'm covered for Swans this GW anyway. I'll do Kun to Gabbi in GW30 instead of Kun to Lloriente to Gabbi in the same time frame.

      I got llorente in for Ibra using my FT. I think he could be a decent budget option for a few weeks given Swansea have been in decent form and pretty good fixtures. Brunt Is my only GW28 player I'll want to dump asap. Plus no one in my ML has him, so could pay off. Could flop too but that's FPL.

        I'm fielding 9, must admit, I did consider making it up to 11, definately thought long and hard about Lloriente. I think the thing that swayed me is, my mini league opponents are seriously going to struggle this week, I'll have a huge advantage as it is, so while there was the temptation to really put the knife in to them, I've decided to try and be better set up longer term.

          I understand where you're coming from. I'm trailing by about 50 in my ML, and am in 2nd place. The ML leader only has 7 playing where getting llorente in gives me 10. I'm hoping to make up some ground if my luck finally turns. I may do a GW30 WC as the ML leader already used his. All depends on how Kun/Sterling go against stoke (ML leader has no city) and then GW28.

      Llorente as a third forward is scoring for fun and has great stats at the moment. Good to have to swap with Gabbiadini for the DGWs and both are the pay-off to afford a decent midfield and defence.

      ... but surely most people have already shifted Phillips and Stan otherwise they are suffering from blank GW fever/blindness 😉

          Yes I have read the article, but also referenced the stats to actually watching him play every week (Swans fan).

          Llorente hasn't become far more clinical, he is now simply receiving the ball from crosses exactly where he needs it. Previously he was scrapping around for half chances ... now he has chances put on a plate for him.

          Ok maybe my reference to 'great stats' should be 'good stats' or more like 'great stats based upon the quality of his service' ... but it is all about the quality of the effort on goal or touch in the box, not just adding up the number of them.

          The key stat for me is 6 efforts on goal (more than any other forward) in last GW from quality service ... service that produced 2 goals and one off the bar.

          If this level of service continues he will score goals 🙂

    Posted earlier but got lost on the wrong article...

    So now, after navigating my way through the blanks in GW28 (I'll field 9), my focus (transfer wise) has turned to those with 2 DGW's between now and the end of the season. We firmly believe GW 37 will be the big one, so Wild Card will take care of that, but it's also very likely that Man U, Arsenal, & Southampton will all have a double gameweek sometime before GW37 too.

    So who do we want from these sides...
    Man U - Ibra is the obvious target when back from suspension, Valencia is the other who stands out for me, but other than that?? Possibly Mkhi?? It looks like any 3rd Utd player would be a strictly 1 week punt. At 4.7 Jones maybe worth monitoring.

    Arsenal - With the current state of things at Arsenal I honestly cannot see anyone one who I'd want for any longer than 1 week other than Sanchez. Walcott may well emerge as a viable option.

    Southampton - I think the Saints might offer up a few options, Gabbi is the stand out one for me, I'll be getting him in for GW30. Yoshida has started the last 8 and at 4.3 is cheap enough to be bench fodder, the same can be said for Stevens (4.0) who has started the last four. He's also worth monitoring. The other two I'll look at are the hit & miss pair of Tadic & Redmond.

    So all in all, I don't think there's a great deal of hot options available, 5 or 6 players at a push.

    Thoughts??

        Nope Chelsea and Spurs to have only one. Unless they win their FA Cup quarter final, the semi is scheduled for 34 but with a free alot midweek, the fixture is likely to go ahead. If it doesn't, they will have a 2nd double, but will blank in 34.

        I don't think so...If they both win this weekend in the Cup then I think it's expected that their GW34 fixtures (FA semi weekend) will be moved to midweek (So still in GW34). As it stands now, they both only have 1 game each to rearrange.

      Yeah probably a few tiny DGW's popped into Euro midweeks for those sides. Problem will come if say your regular big hitters have a great SGW lol. Personally I think SUN might just have a cracking DGW 37, maybe SWA/mid so with no WC left I'll be looking to snaffle a few cheapo SUN def's for BB 37, to pad it all out.

      I quite the like the idea of a wildcard once we know all the fixtures. Seeing as the players who have 2 DGWs will obviously be involved in 37 too, why wait? Ok, their inbetween fixtures. But I think with a bit of juggling it's going to be very beneficial.

      Manchester Untied - A defensive asset would make sense, Valencia for sure. Mata is 7.2 which could be a great DGW punt. One thing to note about their DGWs is that they are all, whatever combination, away from home.

      Arsenal - Madness to write them off, they usually have a revival in the league once they've reached rock bottom in March 🙂 Good DGW fixtures too.Sanchez, Walcott, Giroud.

      Southampton. Maybe only Tadic or Gabby. Check their DGW fixtures - they are MUN, ARS, che or some combination of the above. Depends a lot on form. They look like taking an upturn.

        WC for DGWs can mean a lopsided team, Early WC aggravates this. GW36 WC is less of an issue

        If you want players from the the 2 DGW teams, then maybe just buy them with FT or take a few hits ?

      Whenever you have a spare FT. Probably for Pickford/Hennessey

        I'm fielding 9 already this weekend without a transfer, but would Amat>Mawson be better at this point or transfer Heat out now maybe?

          Will you play Heaton this week? I would do Amat to Mawson

      Pickford answers the 2nd bit lol 😉 Rotates quite well with Jak too.

    What's going on with Man Utd defence (i'm a fan and I can't work it out, or missed the team news)

    Why didn't Bailly and Smalling play against Bournemouth but Jones did, why was Shaw recalled and Blind dropped etc etc

    I though Mourinho liked consistency!

      Agreed, I thought those defensive changes didn't help. I am scared to death of anyone other than Valencia

      Bournemouth at home should have been a good game to get Shaw back in. The Bailly decision is strange though considering he is suspended for Rostov.

        Maybe giving him an extended rest before a prolonged period of being nailed....
        Surely he is first choice

        The question with Shaw is whether Mourinho intends to keep him in the team as his number one left back after a season in the wilderness?

      Shaw is an injury waiting to happen, he has Kompany syndrome, he sits the bench on the All-Star injury team. He'll get hurt again before GW38

      PJones had been a consistent starter from 11 to 18, missed MID but then started the next 4 before the injury v HUL. I think it's safe to assume JM rates him highly.

        So Bailly and PJones number 1 center back pairing for you Netley?

          Jones and Rojo, no?

          Wouldn't bet on Bailly, as Holmes says, Rojo looks the preferred PL CB w/PJones. See who JM plays @ROS & @CHE.

    A) GW28: No hit
    GW29: Aguero + Firmino/Alli -> Kane + Sanchez (-4)

    Sanchez, Alli/Firmino, Coutinho, Siggy, Phillips
    Kane, Lukaku, Anichebe

    B) GW: Aguero -> Llorente (-4)
    GW: Phillips -> Sanchez

    Sanchez, Alli, Firmino, Coutinho, Siggy
    Llorente, Lukaku, Anichebe

    Only 7 defenders under 4 million in FPL which seems very low for this time of year. There's usually around 15 bargain basement defenders available.
