We’re left punctured and deflated like that old plastic ball you used to kick over the fence into the neighbour’s garden.

That neighbour is Pep Guardiola, who appears to take great pleasure in putting his big teamsheet tinkering garden fork through our bouncy double Gameweek dreams.

Recorded in the dying stages of Manchester City’s non-event clash against a stubborn Stoke, Jonty, Andy and myself are left rather flat during this episode of the ScoutCast.

Even the most imaginative accountant couldn’t hide the fact that, after transfer hits aplenty and having witnessed Messrs Kane, Costa, Hazard and Lukaku grab hauls, all three of us depart Gameweek 27 in the red.

Gathering ourselves after that disappointment, and steered by your questions, we nonetheless press on to offer our latest musings on the minefield of blanks presented by Gameweek 28, while checking in on Sanchez’ fading star and third striker options.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Wednesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link or the first player below, or take in the full visual experience, pastry and all, via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'd be keeping Sterling after Wednesday's performance... his stock has gone up.

He was due a rest, and I reckon he could be fired up for the Liverpool game.

Think I'm going to sell Sané for now.

Holgate, Phillips, Sanchez, Costa > Mawson, Coutinho, Mane, Llorente -4?

    gives me:

    Heaton
    Coleman - Mawson - Evans
    Antonio - Sigurdsson - Coutinho - Mane (v) - Capoue*
    Lukaku - Llorente

    Pickford - Kane - Pieters - Alonso

Yep. If we're replacing fixture-less players, have we really got a free pass to take lots of -2 hits?

      1. Numb
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 9 months ago

Yes, in a way. But the player you bring in still needs to do something (assist, goal or defender CS) otherwise you are still down points, unless you want to keep the player for a few weeks anyway perhaps. Also, if you're taking out a player with a blank this week they might have a DGW coming up.

Only do this for quality players that you potentially want to keep beyond this GW. Imo.

Yes I can do that, thank you. Do you pick Llorente over Carroll due to form?

Maybe makes no difference. You could get Kane next week if possible. Just thought Ibra is more likely to be useful if you decided to keep him.

Llorente because of form and less injury prone. Although it could go either way, fixtures are similar.

Eye-test. The way Pool attack down the wings suit Mané and Coutinho really well. Coutinho fire away more attempts and he has been close to getting double digit hauls recently. On set pieces as well.

It's picking the right Hammer though. It could be Lanzini, Noble, Shoddy, Antonio even Carroll who returns the points :/

Coutinho is in the thick of most things.

        1. Ruth_NZ

Nah, if ever there was a points lottery it's Liverpool. Also the cash saved could be useful, couldn't it?

I am very happy with Antonio anyway, he has done nothing wrong and easily justifies 6.9m.

Coutinho more involved in everything so a goal or assist and it's almost certain max bonus.

We should also see Firmino occupying the Cab's like earlier in the season with Mané and Coutinho running beyond.

I think Firmino gets in the points more against high defensive lines where he assists Mané in breaking clear and running on to slot home, or the ball is cut back for Firmino to tap in. Burnley obviously won't be that style of game (Man City might be tho).

If you view it as I display it above, all you need is one of your players to get a assist/goal/clean sheet to break even (assuming they all play 60 mins and get 2 points x 4). You then have the upside of having 4 playing players with good fixtures, so imo makes sense and worth the risk.

Llorente. Swans starting to tick, playing to his strengths. Andy will probably go off injured.

West Ham really playing to Carroll's strength too though, but his injury record is not nice

Anyone else considering Wildcarding GW29 to bring in DGWers before they go up in price? Or is it too soon?

Any Carroll has pretty much done nothing since gw22.....

Why is he even being mentioned as an option this week??

He's been injured and he is no longer injured. One of the few strikers with a GW28 fixture.

I am considering WC for GW30. I know most disagree though. if I think WC now will help me win my ML, I'll do it. I'm chasing, so to me saving the WC for the DGW BB is like putting all my eggs in one basket. If it doesn't work there is only one GW left to make up points.

I am thinking about not getting liverpool players with a 12 point hit.

I think west ham for a one week chance antonio and carroll (with the option of two/three weeks is a better choice)

    4.8m ITB.

    Would you...

A/ upgrade Stanislas to a Lanzini/Antonio/Lallana - but run the risk of not having the funds to get Sanchez/Haz back in 29

    or

B/ Swap Stanislas for Fraser - ideal budget 5th midfielder for remainder of season and protect cash ITB.

8 starters for GW28 at present, 9 if Stanislas returns from the dead. Cheers !
