A little earlier than usual, we roll out our pre-Gameweek members article assessing the armband options available for the reduced round of Gameweek 28 matches.

To kick off, we begin by checking in with the main Captain Poll contenders, then take a look at the Opta numbers and Rate My Team rankings before throwing a differential or two into the mix.

The Captain Poll

There’s a two-way tussle at the top of our Gameweek 28 Captain Poll, with Romelu Lukaku claiming the summit on 43% ahead of Everton’s home encounter with West Brom.

The Toffees frontman has scored in each of his last four at Goodison, including a four-goal haul against Bournemouth, and faces a Baggies defence with just a single clean sheet on their travels this season – way back on the opening weekend.

Sadio Mane is regarded as the Belgian’s main contender as Liverpool entertain Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

Double-digit hauls against Spurs and Arsenal in each of his last two Anfield appearances since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations means that the Senegal international has five sets of 10+ returns at home.

Both Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho are clear differentials for the Merseysiders, with 3% of votes apiece.

Somewhat surprisingly, Firmino, for all his inconsistency, has delivered double-figures five times at Anfield already, including last week’s 12-point tally against Anfield. Yet the Brazilian faces a late assessment after picking up a knock ahead of the Clarets’ encounter.

With one goal in his last nine league appearances, though, Coutinho’s output has been less than impressive, yet the former Inter man has boasted a considerable goal threat of late and fired more attempts on goal over the last four Gameweeks than any player.

Burnley’s top level defensive data certainly boosts Liverpool’s prospects, with Sean Dyche’s side shipping 28 goals in 13 road trips.

Encouragingly, all four visiting teams in Gameweek 28 have managed just a single clean sheet apiece away from home so far, indicating that that goals could be on the menu for the host sides.

Bournemouth’s Josh King grabs third spot ahead of a home clash with West Ham.

Assigned spot-kicks with Callum Wilson injured, the Norwegian boasts five goals in the last six Gameweeks and has mainly been utilised up front by Eddie Howe in recent matches.

Swansea City pair Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente both hover around the 3% mark for a trip to Hull City.

Now up to joint-sixth in the FPL midfield standings, the Icelandic international has bagged returns in seven of his eight outings under Paul Clement – that includes points at Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea in his last three road trips.

Llorente arrives on the back of his fourth brace of the season in last week’s win over Burnley – the Spaniard is the most transferred in player ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

Elsewhere, Michail Antonio and Andy Carroll have been largely overlooked for West Ham’s trip to Bournemouth’s creaking defence.

Antonio has already bagged double-figures against the Cherries earlier in the season, while Carroll’s aerial ability threatens to wreak havoc on a defence that has the second-worst record for headed efforts conceded over the season.

He's a lot more selfish than Firmino, and Firmino has far better link up play with the other 2 forwards - a crucial part of Klopp's system.

A bit yeah, shame as was dead set on giving Coutinho the arm band. May still do it regardless and hope his set piece magic pays off but not opting for Lukaku is dangerous this GW.

If we think Firmino's being benched, it's worse for Cout and Mané, as they could be subbed for him to get some minutes.

If we think he won't be in the squad (and Origi starts) it's probably better for Cout/Mané's game time.

I'm thinking the latter scenario, and wouldn't be surprised if both Cout and Mané plays all 90+ minutes, increasing their points potential. And stats suggest their output doesn't decrease while Origi is on the pitch.

Is it worth taking a hit to get a relatively small selection of players in that you probably won't want for the next GW?

As soon as you're taking hits it means each one has to score or keep a clean sheet for it to be worth it.

Difficult to say long term. Are you planning on playing Olsson in the future or is he just a benchwarmer? If the latter, I'd lean towards sticking (which I'm doing, as I already have four high price defenders going forward).

You can't rely on Swansea for clean sheets and i can see Hull scoring this match. The only likely CS I can see for Swansea over the next few is Borough in GW30, a lot of away fixtures coming up. If you get Olsson it would be in the hope he gets attacking returns IMO. I'm seriously considering getting him in for Amat this GW for a -2, he would be an exciting player to own.

Just seen your post above, forget it as the rest of your back line is solid enough. As for taking multiple hits this week, I'm not as opposed as some, treat each one individually, most constitute -2 anyway unless you can already field a full 11. -20 is pushing it though, even with that theory in place haha, I'd hold this time.

Well the city double kind of ruined the planning when I got the three city players in for (two free transfers)-4 last gameweek rondon was one of the gw 28 who I transferred out.

So I went from needing only to make two transfers to get a full team for this week, to needing five.

I thought the man city gamble was a win win, I never would have predicted city getting to clean sheets, instead of getting attacking points.

Is Sterling > Coutinho a good move for my team (gives me 9 players, no hit)?

    Jakupovic
    Brunt Amat Coleman
    Mane(vc) Snodgrass Siggy Carroll
    Kun* Lukaku(c) Ibra*
    Subs: Foster Sterling* Friend* Alonso*
    0.5ITB / 1FT

Or should I sort the defence (Amat and Friend currently not playing)?

    Cheers

If Firmino plays I think I'll keep it on Mane. If not, probably move it back to Lukaku.

I doubt you will know if Firmy is playing until it's too late

In which case Lukaku. Old faithful as I think he's known on here.

    Pieters to

    A - Olsson
    or
    B - Funes Mori

    It's for a hit.

I wouldn't do Olsson this week for a hit and only Coleman for Everton

Play Heaton or Jakupovic? I know it's Burnley away to Liverpool but Heaton will have loads of save points probably...

    Evans or Amat to Coleman?

If I replace Evans I will have the money to do Sanchez in straight with a FT. Otherwise I will get a Spurs mid next GW if I replace Amat.

If you want Sanchez next week the answer is obvious

      Evans

    To clarify:

    A) Evans > Coleman & Snoddy > Sanchez next GW
    B) Amat > Coleman & Snoddy > Eriksen/Alli next GW

How desperate are you for Sanchez? Do you want him next week or are you happy to wait a few weeks to see how he and Arsenal are doing?
