A little earlier than usual, we roll out our pre-Gameweek members article assessing the armband options available for the reduced round of Gameweek 28 matches.

To kick off, we begin by checking in with the main Captain Poll contenders, then take a look at the Opta numbers and Rate My Team rankings before throwing a differential or two into the mix.

The Captain Poll

There’s a two-way tussle at the top of our Gameweek 28 Captain Poll, with Romelu Lukaku claiming the summit on 43% ahead of Everton’s home encounter with West Brom.

The Toffees frontman has scored in each of his last four at Goodison, including a four-goal haul against Bournemouth, and faces a Baggies defence with just a single clean sheet on their travels this season – way back on the opening weekend.

Sadio Mane is regarded as the Belgian’s main contender as Liverpool entertain Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

Double-digit hauls against Spurs and Arsenal in each of his last two Anfield appearances since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations means that the Senegal international has five sets of 10+ returns at home.

Both Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho are clear differentials for the Merseysiders, with 3% of votes apiece.

Somewhat surprisingly, Firmino, for all his inconsistency, has delivered double-figures five times at Anfield already, including last week’s 12-point tally against Anfield. Yet the Brazilian faces a late assessment after picking up a knock ahead of the Clarets’ encounter.

With one goal in his last nine league appearances, though, Coutinho’s output has been less than impressive, yet the former Inter man has boasted a considerable goal threat of late and fired more attempts on goal over the last four Gameweeks than any player.

Burnley’s top level defensive data certainly boosts Liverpool’s prospects, with Sean Dyche’s side shipping 28 goals in 13 road trips.

Encouragingly, all four visiting teams in Gameweek 28 have managed just a single clean sheet apiece away from home so far, indicating that that goals could be on the menu for the host sides.

Bournemouth’s Josh King grabs third spot ahead of a home clash with West Ham.

Assigned spot-kicks with Callum Wilson injured, the Norwegian boasts five goals in the last six Gameweeks and has mainly been utilised up front by Eddie Howe in recent matches.

Swansea City pair Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente both hover around the 3% mark for a trip to Hull City.

Now up to joint-sixth in the FPL midfield standings, the Icelandic international has bagged returns in seven of his eight outings under Paul Clement – that includes points at Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea in his last three road trips.

Llorente arrives on the back of his fourth brace of the season in last week’s win over Burnley – the Spaniard is the most transferred in player ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

Elsewhere, Michail Antonio and Andy Carroll have been largely overlooked for West Ham’s trip to Bournemouth’s creaking defence.

Antonio has already bagged double-figures against the Cherries earlier in the season, while Carroll’s aerial ability threatens to wreak havoc on a defence that has the second-worst record for headed efforts conceded over the season.

Everton is my clear favourite. We've kept clean sheets in 3 of our 4 league games since the start of the year.

    Pick one for a -8:

    A. WHU mid and LIV mid
    B. Double WHU mids
    C. Cout+Firm (would make it 3 LIV mids, as I already own Mane)
    D. WHU mid and A. Carroll
    E. LIV mid and Carrol

    Heaton
Brunt FM Robertson Amap [ Alonso ]
Siggy Mane King Firm [ Ericksen ]
    Luk Carroll [ Costa]

and next week Carroll --> Kane ? Gtg ?

Had to take -12 for the above ( -6 essentially - Kun, Philips, Sterling out )

Ah fair enough. I'd go for any of the other 3 then since they have DGWs and Cout doesn't. I prefer Eriksen since Spurs have a lovely run of games. But Pedro is a nice differential if you are way down the ranks.

Already took a -8. Worth 4 more to bring Coleman in for Kolarov, long term I think I want Walker so was saving Kolarov until next week. Having said that anything more than 4 points this week means I might as well. Not that I'll get rid of him before (HUL).

Was all set on Sane > (C)outinho before the Phillips news...nearly pulled the trigger last night...a chance to reassess then. My plan was always to take out Phillips for a hit next week in any case (-16) feels quite bold/foolish though...

    A
    (28) Sane Phillips > Coutinho Carroll (-16)... ten GW28 starters
    (29) Aguero and Eriksen/Mane/Coutinho > Kane and Sanchez (-4)

    B
    (28) Phillips > Antonio (-12)... nine starters
    (29) Aguero, Mane, Brunt > Kane Sanchez 4.4 (-8)

    C
Whip out the WC and sort out a few other issues?
Or is soaking up a (-16) this week ok given it's par return would be (-16+8)...
Thoughts very much appreciated - Cheers 🙂

    Heaton (Pickford)
    Coleman Brunt Smith (Alonso Pieters)
    Mané Sigurdsson (Eriksen Sane Phillips)
    Lukaku Llorente (Aguero)

    A. indi to Coleman for -4
    B. Aguero to Carroll for -4
    C. Both for a -8

Sterling to King is better IMO

I never thought that I would end up taking out Aguero to bring in Carroll for -4. This is set to be a crazy week!

Phillips > King for a -4 hit? Already have Llorente so reluctant to get Siggy and double up on Swansea players. Lanzini is the other option?

I would prefer to double up with Siggy. I don't see anything wrong with the double up.

Siggy is the Swans player to own but if you're against getting him I'd go King unless you want WH cover.

    Over the next 6

    A. Go for the slightly dull double up on Everton defence and get FM in to go alongside Coleman or

    B. opt for Olsson who is far more attacking and exciting to watch?

CS V Attacking potential. I can't help but feel the 'sensible' move would be the former but leaning towards Olsson regardless.

Currently have Amat, Alonso, Brunt, Coleman & Pieters

50-50. Maybe live life on the edge and go for it.

I would say A but B would be a more exciting option.

So is it worth it to do Amat to Mawson for another -4?

He would be my 11th player for this gw and would have someone who play instead of Amat Deadwood for lets say -2

Yep, it's a good work to clear out non-playing (benched) players.
