Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Internationals – Friday

A busy night of European qualification matches for the World Cup is marred by a horrific injury to Everton’s Seamus Coleman, while there are routine wins for Spain and Serbia. Here’s how Friday night’s international action panned out.

Rep of Ireland 0 Wales 0

An ill-tempered affair in Dublin ended goalless, with the result completely overshadowed by the broken leg suffered by Everton full-back Seamus Coleman.

The Irish skipper was stretchered from the field following a wild challenge by Neil Taylor which earned the Aston Villa defender a straight red card.

We covered the news – and the repercussions for Fantasy managers – in our story here.

But events have already moved on since last night, with the initial exodus gathering pace. Coleman has now been sold by closing in on 50,000 managers – only Harry Kane has been transferred out of more squads since Gameweek 29 ended.

The defender’s value had just reached a season-high 6.1 on the back of a string of fine performances involving two goals, four assists and eight clean sheets from Gameweek 16 onwards.

While Coleman’s setback illustrates the risks involved in acting early with transfers, those holding the full-back will need to be wary of suffering at least one drop in price as others hurry to bring in replacements.

The Republic have a friendly with Iceland on Tuesday. Wales do not play again this season.

Rep of Ireland Xi: Randolph, Coleman (Christie 72), Keogh, O’Shea, Ward, Meyler (McGeady 80), Walters, Whelan, Hendrick, McClean, Long.
Subs: Westwood, K Doyle, Egan, Hourihane, Hayes, O’Dowda, Pearce, C Doyle.

Wales XI: Hennessey, Gunter, Chester, Williams, Davies, Taylor, Ledley (Richards 72), Ramsey, Allen, Bale, Robson-Kanu (Vokes 45).
Subs: F Williams, MacDonald, Edwards, Wilson, Collins, Walsh, Bradshaw, Woodburn, Ward.

Georgia 1 Serbia 3

Southampton’s Dusan Tadic brought his fine club form with him to a Serbia side that cruised past Georgia.

The 1.7%-owned midfielder opened the scoring with a penalty and then laid on both of his country’s other goals as he continued to make a strong case for inclusion in our squads.

Tadic has a goal and three assists from his last three league starts ahead of an excellent short-term schedule for the Saints which involves Bournemouth and Palace at home and West Brom away.

He has clearly benefited from coach Claude Puel handing him a freer role to support Manolo Gabbiadini up front, and Southampton’s forthcoming two double Gameweeks should make Tadic an even more attractive proposition.

With Gabbiadini currently an injury doubt following the groin problem sustained in the 2-1 defeat to Spurs, Tadic arguably represents the optimum route into the Saints’ attack.

However, their twin fixtures will involve matches with Manchester United and Arsenal, and the Saints also have Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool to play before the season ends.

Tadic started and finished Friday’s match, as did Serbia’s other Premier League players – Nemanja Matic and Aleksandar Kolarov.

Serbia do not play again during this international break.

Elsewhere, David Silva and Diego Costa both scored in Spain’s 4-1 win over Israel. The pair, along with Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, played the full 90 minutes.

Cesar Azpilicueta, Pedro and Ander Herrera were all unused substitutes who will perhaps see some match-time when Spain are back in action again on Tuesday in a friendly against France.

Stoke City midfielder Marko Arnautovic opened the scoring as Austria saw off Moldova 2-0.

Watford defender Sebastian Prodl also featured, with Spurs centre-half Kevin Wimmer on the bench.

Austria host Finland in a Tuesday night friendly.

A Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty proved decisive as Iceland won 2-1 in Kosovo to keep one of the surprise packages of Euro 2016 well in the mix for Russia 2018 qualification.

The Icelanders, as mentioned above, will face the Republic of Ireland in a friendly on Tuesday.

Mancheseter United defender Matteo Darmian watched Italy’s 2-0 win over Albania from the bench. The Italians will now travel to Holland for a Tuesday night friendly.

Darmian’s team-mate Eric Bailly played the full 90 minutes of The Ivory Coast’s 2-0 friendly win in Russia in which Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha scored his first international goal.

Zaha provided the highlight of the match when he beat four players before finishing at the near post. Priced at 5.6, his form and output warrant monitoring ahead of the Eagles two Gameweek 34 fixtures as a fifth midfielder option in a 3-5-2 setup.

The Ivory Coast will be in action again on Monday in a friendly with Sadio Mane’s Senegal.

Really want to get Rose in as a Coleman replacement, but it's still unknown when he'll return.

Question is should I go Walker for the time being even though it could possible price me out of zlatan later on, or go Fabio in preparation for the DGW, then Rose in when fit?

    Current defence:
    Alonso - Valencia - Coleman* - Nyom - Amat

What to do with this team?

    Pickford l Heaton
    Alonso l Baines l Fernandez l Robertson l Friend
Sanchez l Mane l Siggy l Antonio* l De Roon
    Kun l Llorente l Lukaku

    1FT / 1.4itb

I was thinking of doing: Antonio + Kun --> Alli + Vardy for -4pts.
Or maybe save FT and play De Roon?

I'm loving this part of the season. Lots of options in preactically every bracket of every position. Some obvious options are out or coming back soon. Other obvious options aren't actually as obvious as we want them to be. Fixtures are a real mix bag, with only Liverpool and Spurs with great fixtures, but DGW34 is in people's minds. It's suddenly a real battle, and I'm excited as someone who doesn't play the ownership game.

People are considering options I took risks on and failed earlier in the season, like Fuchs, Bertrand, Cedric, Redmond, Mahrez, Vardy. Maybe soon people will also consider my other fails, like Bony, Wickham, Deulofeu and Bellerin.

    Coleman l Daniels l McAuley l Robertson l Amat
    Sanchez l Siggy l Sterling l Fraser l King
    Vardy l Llorente l Carroll

    1ft

Is it worth taking a hit to do Coleman to Walker/Valencia and Sterling to a Spurs mid? - 4 or just do one this week and then see how things pan out?
Could maybe go with Daniels l McAuley l Robertson at a push and swap Coleman next week but his value will surely nosedive? Best to get rid of him ASAP?

Leader cant build a decent 34 and 37 team without WC. Danger is them ignore 34 and planning for a decent 37 from now onwards. Still say you habiuld have it on the bag either way.

Never panic. Many do after February. Buying players to avoid price changes then having to take hits because other players get injured. Doing bandwagons without form, see Coutinho for DGW. Ignoring bargains like Davies for because their price is low. No doubt he could panic too with such a lead and fk it up.

But the thing with bench fodders is u need to save every 0.1 there so no point JWP has 2 dgw's and better returns chance

      I would not say so
He is a blocker in case you ever wanted to treble up on Chelsea's real fpl assets i.e. Costa Pedro/Hazard Alonso

Fair enough thanks guys. My budget does allow me to get the premium bench fodder if such a term exists. How about Ndidi? Or is JWP to way to go?

Ndidi edges it on the stats. Are JWP's minutes a certainty? I must watch motd again and pay closer attention to these 2 guys.

Cheers for the reply mate. I know not many enjoy replying to these type of posts.

To an extent I agree with you but the thing is, Ibra has rested for 3-4 weeks and Kane has been injured. I would say given that, Ibra is more likely to come back and make an instant impact as he was looking tired last few games.

Other thing is I am worried Lukaku won't be as good now that Coleman is out of the team as he was essentially another winger feeding him balls.

Ibra could haul in Sunderland game. If Kane gets back early I will go for him. In the end I will probably get Ibra for 34 it's probably too risky not.
I can only have 1 of those 3 so 2 ain't bad either way.
As for getting 1.1 I can see how you do it. Would not want to lose many that you have especially any that could be downgraded.

    A) Coutinho -> Pedro (PAL)
    B) Mane -> Alli (bur)

Obviously depends on how Coutinho is after the break, and won't be doing anything until it end of internationals.

Currently no spurs, only Alonso from Chelsea. Thanks in advance.

Thinking the same, I think A is easier to justify.

Haven't owned Kane since around January, Eriksen since gw2, Walker since gw4 or Alli since gw26 so I'm painfully aware of my Spurslessness.

If Milner was a defender, I think GW29 was the week he would have over taken Mane as Liverpool's highest scoring FPL player.

Why are people taking Son out? There's 3 GWs in a week, and Kane is very likely to miss that week. Surely Son is a decent punt for a few weeks? Especially those with wildcards who will play them in GW34 or so.
