After a five month long winter break the new season of Norwegian’s top flight football kicked off with a bang with two Gameweeks within a few days.

With Gameweek 3 starting on Saturday there is little respite for the clubs, and more importantly, us Fantasy managers. Gameweek 2 saw a lot of frustration as key assets were either benched or taken off early with the tight schedule in mind.

FFScout League Standings

The FFS community has shown an overwhelming interest for this fringe league, with 476 already having entered the FFScout main league (3769-1041).

On top with 135 points we find Norwegian Red (Oieiao) – perhaps fittingly – an Englishman.

In the FFScout  H2H league 16 managers have won both their matchups, with Ned Ryerson and Riski Virksomhet being joint top thanks to their superior points tally. Ned Ryerson features again on top of Phil Dagger’s Last Man Standing.

Stock Check

Ahead of looking at the risers and fallers from the two Gameweeks so far it is worth checking out Goktugerce‘s excellent statistical review of the first two Gameweeks, looking at team statistics, average positions and expected goals & assists. Meanwhile, Niemi took an in depth look at the good and bad players so far in every position.

Rising

Vegar Hedenstad (6.5) – Two clean sheets and an assist. On some set pieces.

Mike Jensen (10.5) – Two assists. Easy on the eye, which means he will be a favourite of ‘the man in the stand’. Already has 4 bonus points.

Milan Jevtovic (7.6) – A goal and an assist. A possible injury to Elbasan Rashani means Jevtovic could be nailed on going forward.

Nicklas Bendtner (12.5) – Two goals. The Dane is yet to find the groove but nonetheless has managed to find the back of the net in both games. Will score a lot of goals purely because of the sheer amount of chances Rosenborg create every game.

Sigurd Rosted (5.6) – Two goals. Not only is he a massive threat from set pieces, Sarpsborg play 4 out of their next 6 fixtures at home. Last season they kept an impressive 9 clean sheets in 15 games at home.

Patrick Mortensen (6.6) – Two goals and an assist. Sarpsborg have scored the joint most goals so far and the fixtures are favourable.

Gilbert Koomson (7.5) – Dubbed ’Siggy of Eliteserien’ by some of the FFS posters, Koomson showed some of his potential by scoring a penalty in GW2. The top assister from last season is yet to assist this campaign but that looks like a matter of time.

Bendik Bye (5.5) – Two goals and an assist. After a potential season ending injury for strike parter Ole Sveen, Bye should have done enough to nail down a permanent starting place.

Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) – A goal and an assist. 4 bonus points already, including full points in a game his team lost.

Ibrahim Shuaibu (5.0) – Two goals and two assists. Incredible form and value.

Frederik Gytkjær (7.5) – Three goals. Mistaken for his brother who was the league’s top scorer last season, a lot of casuals have enjoyed the early investment of the younger Gytkjær.

Ohi Omoijuanfo (7.0) – Hat-trick in the first home game. 3 of the next 4 fixtures are at home.

Marco Tagbajumi (7.6) – Two goals. Going somewhat under the radar compared to his expensive strike partner Marcus Pedersen. Favourable fixtures.

Jylian Ryerson (4.5) – One goal. Listed as a cheap defender, Ryerson has played both games in an advanced midfield position. Will probably drop a bit deeper once Adegbenro is back. Ryerson is a jack of all trades and due to Viking’s extremely thin squad we could hope to see him OOP for longer parts of the season.

Falling

Ghayas Zahid (10.5) – Tipped by many to be in contention for player of the year, Zahid has nothing to show for so far. Consistent returns are vital for players with a premium price tag. Does however face the bottom team at home in GW3 so those patient enough to keep could finally be rewarded.

Mohammed Abdellaoue (9.4) – An impressive pre season was followed by an anonymous opening GW before being ruled out for GW2 with an injury. Is very injury prone.

Lars Vilsvik (6.0) – Viewed as a full back with big attacking threat, the only thing Vilsvik has produced so far is an own goal. The fixtures are however still good.

Rafik Zekhnini (8.5) & Fredrik Nordkvelle (9.0) – Although the former registered an assist after coming on as a sub, he was benched due poor work ethic in the previous match. The latter is yet to return attacking points.

Samuel Adegbenro (7.5) – After missing the first game through illness, Adegbenro returned to training ahead of GW2. But he missed the second game as well, and now await four of the toughest games Viking will play all season.

Gameweek 3 Picks

Scoring the winner in his debut game, Bård Finne (9.1) will look to continue his good home form when Vålerenga welcome the bottom team Sandefjord. With Abdellaoue being a doubt for Sunday, Finne might benefit from a central striker role.

When it comes to attempts, midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) is second only to Bendik Bye with 4 shots per game. The Nigerian will certainly fancy his chances at home against what currently is the joint worst defence in the league.

Marco Tagbajuni (7.6) is on top for average xG (expected goals) per shot. Although a small sample size, this suggests he has so far been on the right place at the right time. Up against a shambolic Aalesund defence, the rather budget friendly striker could potentially even be trusted with the armband.

I'd say you need either Bendtner or Hedenstad long term. Not worth a hit though.

Thoughts on the priority of the players from Rosenberg? 3 slots was never going to be enough...

    1. Bendtner
    2. Jensen
    3.Hedenstad
    4. Jevtovic
    5. Helland
    6. Midtsjø
    7. Reginiussen

Is that about right? Really tough to choose!

Depends really. If you put the spare cash to good use then Midtsjø could possibly cover Jensen.

I would say it's about right yes. Jevtovic's priority position depends on how long Rashani is out for.

Hmm... I've got 3 and 4 atm. Not selling either so I guess it's bendtner I need to add and pass on Jensen for now. Could cost me if Jensen keeps picking up assists and bps

    Thoughts on this please guys;

    Heaton
    Alonso / Walker / Valencia
    Sanchez / Alli / King / Sterling
    Lukaku / Agueron (c) / Carroll

Pickford / Robertson / De Roon / Evans

    Anything worth a -8

Where can I watch highlights of matches? Any websites host all of the games in one place? I have a VPN so could watch on a Norwegian site if they are hosted anywhere for free.

Can you recommend me a VPN service for Norway? What do you use and do you pay for it? Is it worth it? Too many questions but I'm thinking about buying one so it would be good to learn more.

Have 'narrowed' transfer down to losing a Molde player. Sigurdarson to Mortensen/Lindberg/Tagbajumi a possibility, but alternative mids for Svendsen so much more appealing (probably in this order?):

Matthews (FKH) - obvious recent form. Haugesund have condeded 6.
Haugen (kbk) - longer term form. It's Kristiansund but they haven't been totally turned over.
Koomson (til) - another with safer stats history. Tromso don't look like conceding too many though.
Trondsen (VIK) - bit worried about consistency due to others' comments on role in team. Not a great start by Viking but not the worst either.

Not asking for a pick, but does that look generally right. Matthews/Haugen/Koomson fixtures ok for a while too.

Why losing a Molde player? I'm looking to get one in, they have the best run of fixtures around starting next GW.

        1. MTPockets
            8 years, 8 months ago

17.5m away to Rosenborg, who haven't conceded yet. Svendsen scored but already been subbed off early once (58 min in gw1). Appealing alternatives with decent fixtures. An otherwise-bench of Albeck (injured?)/Moe/Valles.

Very much this. I think I'll go Haugen myself if I sell, but I already own Koomson.

                8 years, 8 months ago

*Haugen's fixtures - exc Rosenborg - probably better (although I don't know enough about this league to be sure of that).

They haven't impressed yet and the team is a rotation nightmare. I'm only selling now because I own 2 of them, wouldn't sell if I only owned Svendsen I think (depending on lineup tomorrow)

If we get a fairly certain line-up I may keep both. But not comfortable with it at all for gw3.

Right, as a Norwegian it is dismaying to be sub-50 in the LMS and 2 straight L in the h2h (one beeing against bloody average).... so I'll crawl humbly to the altar of advice: What (Long term) needs to change in my team:

            Fernandes (Origi)

            Vilsvik - Hedenstad - Ruud (Albech-Ryerson)

Jevtovic - Zahid - Krogstad - Koomson (Lund Nielsen)

            Tagbajumi - Lindberg - Bendtner

I'm already considering Zahid's future, he needs to show at least backing numbers in GW3 or he is out on his ass, suggestions in there welcome. What else looks off kilter?

Picks clearly good in terms of form. If i was wildcarding now, Jensen, Ryerson, Ruud (probably Njie) would feature.

Well, I swapped Trondsen for Zachariassen (value), Gregersen for Moe (value), Shuaibu for Tagbajumi (expected points).

So I guess one player in each row was ready for change.

Still considering Ruud for Grøgaard, as he is on pens.

That midfield was good for 42p last round, almost the rounds average score.
Your 3 guys in the front counted for 32p last round.

You should not be blinded by previous results. So that was kindof what I thought was wrong with the team - too much focus on points already handed out, and not enough long term focus.

I agree. Just chasing last weeks points. If I were on a wildcard now I would go for this bunch:

                              Leceijewski/Dyngeland - Fernandes
                              Ruud - Hedenstad - XXX - Ryerson - Moe
                              Jensen - Haugen - Koomson - Matthew - Njie
                              Bendtner - XXX - Lindberg/Shuaibu

12.2, 12.7 or 14.2 left for the last 2 spots depending on GK and 3rd forward spot.

Rosenborg are trying to make Bendtner their main goal scorer, so I will go for him despite also owning Finne. Vålerenga is not that reliable imo. Tha Rosenborg match is kind of a darby, that's the only thing making me second guess my choice.

Need to upgrade that budget midfield. You've got players with potential in midfield but no one who is going to give you consistent points.

You know what, I might just do Svendsen, Occean > Matthew, Tagbajumi -4.

                          Fernandes (Dyngeland)
Vilsvik - Ruud - Hedenstad - Rosted (Moe)
Zahid - Midtsjø - Matthew (Njie - Valles)
                          Pedersen - Tagbajumi (C) - Shuaibu

4.8m ITB. Enough to get Lord and upgrade the midfield next week.

All egs in one basket but I'm banking on Strømsgodset running riot at home.

Maybe get Bendtner in next week and drop Helland or Midtsjø for Matthew.

Just read a piece from the local newspaper in Haugesund. According to them Ibrahim Shuaibu has been Haugesund's best player in both matches. There was also a piece on Matthew where they said he was the one to watch when they meet Lillestrøm on Sunday. No doubt Matthew is a quality player, just remains to be seen how much of a fantasy player he is.

Is it worth doing Midtsjo > Jensen in the near future? Jensen a lot more involved so far, Midtsjo seems to be playing second and third fiddle to Jensen and Bendtner.

I didn't watch the match, but it looked like Midtsjø was more involved in their second match? He got an assist and had the pass to Bakenga who hit the post as well.

Worth monitoring though. He definitely played second fiddle to Jensen in the match against Odd.

Are we expecting Janukiewicz (4.0 GK playing for Stromsgodset) to be a starter now? Because that would be a real bargain. Would happily do Dyngeland>Janukiewicz for the spare cash next week, would give me enough money for Midtsjo > Jensen.

Not sure yet. Their first choice keeper Bugge Pettersen is injured for a few months. Makani was expected to play, but when Bugge got injured they got in Janukiewicz on a short term loan (until June 30th). Worth monitoring for sure.

As I said before I think Sigurdarson is the one to keep long term. I think I'm doing Svendsen>Haugen myself. If Svendsen is starting and Sigurdarson is benched (I don't see that happening really) I'll probably sell Sigurdarson, but don't know who for.

Yes, teams should be out 15 minutes ish before the deadline (maybe some leaks earlier). I think I'll shift Svendsen (I have the same double up as you), but won't decide before the lineups are out. Not done anything yet.

Would consider Koomson if you don't own him yet.

Not sure. Brann better team, but Koomson more essential I think due to price / penalties / set pieces.

Yes, FPL team as well. Aguero (C) will hopefully take me back inside top 10k.

I'm currently on Fernandes, but it's coin toss really. Lillestrøm with the home advantage, but I rate Haugesund as a better goal scoring team than Tromsø. I'm going with Fernandes because of the home advantage and slightly lower clean sheet odds.

Starting Shuaibu so don't really want a clean sheet from fernandes if i play him, which means Dyngeland.

Found this over on VGD. Probable lineups this gameweek. Not sure what it's based on, but thought it was worth posting. No Svendsen for Molde. Rolantsson winger again, Ryerson attacking mid again, Ulland Andersen starting for Strømsgodset (no Nguen), no Sørli, no Occean/Zekhnini/Grøgaard as mentioned earlier,

It's from the biggest newspaper in Norway, VG. Should be plausible.

Might not be correct. They have Ulland Andersen in the starting lineups and there is someone on VGD claiming he's still injured.

Just bought a VG+ membership myself for 3 months. They have a lot of info on expected lineups.

Bendtner, Helland, Skjelvik and Jevtovic expected back in the starting lineups for Rosenborg. Meling still doubtful because of injury.

Brustad and Hestad expectec back for Molde. Svendsen benched.

Ajeti/Udoji 50/50 to partner Malec up front for Lillestrøm.

Expecting same team for Haugesund (Abdi could come back after suspension)

Thomassen doubtful for Sarpsborg, Groven likely to replace him. No mention of Albech, should be fit then I guess.

Adegbenro expected to be fit, not sure if he's starting. Appiah should start up front.

Zekhnini not in the squad due to an injury. Grøgaard, Samuelsen and Occean not expected to start.

                              Stabæk likely to be unchanged.

Norbye back for Tromsø, but not sure if he starts.

Bye should be a starter for Sogndal now with Sveen out.

Näsberg and Moa doubtful for Vålerenga.

                              Sødlund might start for Sandefjord.

Makani expected to start for Strømsgodset instead of Janukiewicz. Makani benched midweek because he broke some club rules or something. Might be some rotation out wide.

                              Aalesund no injury worries.

No Sørli in Kristiansund's expected lineup.

Braaten still ill, Rolantsson expected to start as a winger again. No changes expected.

Oh well, not 100% correct though, Espejord is out long term for Tromsø and Ulland Andersen apparently still injured for Strømsgodset. They are in the expected line ups.

Probably will. Just that watched highlights of Lillestrøm's games. While some shots may be 'adventurous', Matthew looked pretty good in general (ball control, passing, confidence). Admittedly very short highlights though. Like this week's fixture too.

No doubt he's pretty good, but he's more of a box to box midfielder so it remains to be seen how often he's involved in goals.
