Diego Costa and Marcos Alonso are among the goals as Chelsea move one step closer to the title with a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough to place question marks over their Gameweek 37 and 38 teamsheets.

On the Rise

Diego Costa
The second most-captained player in the Gameweek, Costa struck his 20th league goal of 2016/17 as the Blues soared seven points clear of Spurs with three fixtures remaining.

Backed by over 10% of FPL managers with the Gameweek captaincy, the Spain international is second only to Gabriel Jesus for transfers in up front since Friday’s deadline passed – more than 38,000 have already acquired his services as the league leaders prepare for a Double Gameweek 37 that hands them a trip to West Brom and a home tie with Watford.

The main concern, though, is if Chelsea win at The Hawthorns on Friday night, then the title is already over before Spurs can kick another ball in anger.

Given that they also face Arsenal in the FA Cup final on May 27 – six days after the Gameweek 38 home clash against relegated Sunderland – then a victory against the Baggies means that Conte could opt to rest and rotate his regulars over those final two home matches, potentially scuppering our plans.

However, it’s worth noting that Costa has played 90 minutes in each of Chelsea’s last 13 league matches, and bearing in mind that summer signing Michy Batshuayi has failed to start a single league match thus far, the 33% holding the former Atletico Madrid man will be confident he can retain his starting berth.

Marcos Alonso
Netting Chelsea’s second in the 3-0 stroll, the Spaniard’s stunning end to the season continues to reap reward – he’s racked up two goals, an assist and a pair of clean sheets in his last four outings.

Alonso’s 14-point tally helped him reclaim top spot in the FPL defender standings ahead of team-mate Gary Cahill, with Cesar Azpilicueta sitting in third spot after providing an assist for the wing-back’s strike.

Yet there’s no doubt that the summer signing has been the main man for FPL managers in defence – an average of 5.8 points per match is identical to team-mate Costa and bettered by just six regular players over the current campaign.

Having played 90 minutes in 13 of his last 14 league appearances, Alonso has also been immune to rotation, though the likes of Nathan Ake could offer an option to Conte if he opts to rest any regulars if/when the league is won.

Cesc Fabregas
One of our three “Differentials” for Gameweek 36, the playmaker proved a timely differential ahead of Double Gameweek 37 by serving up a 12-point tally against ‘Boro.

Owned by 2% of FPL managers, Fabregas has started five successive home matches, producing double-figures on three of those occasions.

Impressively, he’s now served up attacking returns in nine of his side’s last 10 at Stamford Bridge.

With Conte perhaps keen to protect N’Golo Kante’s thigh injury with one eye on the Wembley showpiece, the 6.9-priced Fabregas could be worthy of a flutter for those remaining three league fixtures.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Hauled off just after 70 minutes with the hosts 3-0 ahead, the Belgian failed to extend a recent run that had delivered returns in seven of eight appearances prior to last night’s victory.

While there seems little doubt that he’ll start against West Brom as Conte looks to get the title in the bag, Hazard’s pitch time continues to be managed by the Italian – he has now been subbed off in 23 of his 33 starts, more than any player in the Premier League this season.

With Pedro and Willian more than capable of delivering from the wide roles, the 34%-owned Hazard is arguably most at risk of being handed a day off than other Chelsea regulars, as Conte plots to clinch the double in his first season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Looks like a knock so far - was going to be my transfer in this week, but looking like I'll plump for Luiz and some Chelsea defensive cover instead. Shame - poor man is always injured!

    Any Chelsea fans about?

Has Alonso missed any games, perhaps in other competitions and if so did Conte stick to 3 at the back? Who played LWB?

FA Cup he missed a few, occasionally Azpi has drifted out wide with Zouma/Ake/Terry covering CB. Otherwise Pedro has done it.

I guess any Chelsea player is under potential rotation threat once the league is won, especially in that Watford game. Just wonder whether someone will step in for him

Pedro has played wing back If he hasn't played. He was ill against United and Azpilicueta played wing back for a bit in that game but then changed it back. Zouma played but I think he prefers Ake right now.

conte is a ruthless manager, he could easily discard players that have won him the league,he did it at juve. alonso isnt safe based on one season where they didnt have european football, he has champions league next season and it will be completely different. they will not survive playing that formation in Europe

Is De Bruyne a better option than Hazard given the league is all but in the bag? His stats are very good and City still have Champions League to play for. Is triple City attack too much? Will he start all 3 fixtures. I'm trailing by 50 in ML and rivals all have Hazard and not De Bruyne. Was thinking he would be a decent captain option.

Was streaming last night and there was quite a bit of position reclassification talk. Who do you think needs to change position in FPL next year? Here are some thoughts:

    Alonso - remains a defender
Moses - Changed from mid to defender
    Firmino - Mid to forward
    Sanchez - remain midfield
    Brunt - Defender to Midfielder

    1. Athletic Nasherbo

Firmino isn't a forward...only as much a Mane or Coutinho (wouldn't reclassify them would you?)
Brunt has spent plenty of time in defence.

They're wingers so nope, wouldn't reclassify them.

Arguable than Firmino has equal defencive duties to them, therefore I wouldn't reclassify him.

      Firmino not a striker he's a false 9. As in not a real 9

The position is called "Forward" in FPL though, I think false 9 might get counted in that

Sanchez has to be reclassified before him

Plus, what's changed 15/16 in 16/17 as they didn't reclassify then!

Agreed, Coutino and Mane defend in equal measures to Firmino

      Milner - Mid to defender

Agree with all of those Andy. Walker and rose remain defenders too? Dier could go either way. Gibbs nor Monreal should not change, but they could be good picks next season if either play at Wing back! King might become a striker though. Milner defender.

I don't think it really matters. It's good the way it is for most players. Picking out alonso and king for their oop is part of what's fun in the game. Higher prices make the difference

    Willy Pick
    Alonso Monreal Blind* Yoshida Holgate
    Sanchez Hazard Eriksen King Carroll*
    Kane Jesus Gabbi*

    Any ideas ?¿
IMO my issues are Blind Carroll Gabbi, 1FT 3.9ITB - I can take some hits.

What to do with this team?

    Cabellero Pickford
    Alonso Monreal Yoshida Maguire Holgate
    Sanchez Hazard Alli Eriksen King
    Kane Gabbiadini Anichebe

I will play bench boost and have 1FT willing to take -4

heres a question, does a league win have to be seen in a somewhat different light if a team has had no european football, as in is it a somewhat lesser achievement than some of Fergies and Joses sides that went far in the champions league and still one domestic title?

chelsea have been very impressive but for me they are a far cry from some of the best teams to have won the premeirleague and been successful in europe.

Elite English clubs are a level behind at the moment. Can't imagine something like Leicester happening during the peak years of Utd/Arsenal dominance. Signs are that things might be changing - will need at least 2 ECL quarter finalists next year to demonstrate that though.

Hi all, looking to ship Bailly and have 6.2 to spend.

    Best option?
    A) Luiz (no Chelsea def; Haz)
    B) Kosc (pending OK) (have Monreal; Sanch)
    C) Bertrand (have Yoshi)

Feel like it's probably Luiz here... fully expecting rotation though 😀

    Thanks all.

So this is the squad for the next dgw:-

    Caballero Pickford

    Alonso Davies Gabriel Yoshida Kelly

    Alexis Sane King Alli JWP

    Kane Costa Gabbi

    .2 itb and 2 fts...

13 of the above have dgws (except Kelly and King) but I will keep hold of King...Kelly will go out and what go do with the other ft...Gabriel needs to go too imo... Thinking of getting Gibbs in his place...

    Suggestions guys..

Gabriel yes can go - I'd hold fire on Gibbs though, I think Monreal pops out to the LWB and Gibbs drops to the bench once Stafi is back in the side. See how we line up 2m.
