Vincent Kompany receives a four-match ban after picking up his second straight red card of the season. Wayne Rooney bags a brace as United line up a visit to Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup, while James McClean continues to catch the eye of Fantasy managers, with his second goal in as many games:

Ramires
Having played wide right in the last week’s win at Wolves, the Brazilian returned to central midfield for the visit of Portsmouth. Ramires continued his goalscoring exploits, though, following up his strike at Molineux with a double as Chelsea chalked up a somewhat flattering 4-0 win. He also provided an assist for Frank Lampard’s fourth. With Daniel Sturridge still sidelined, Juan Mata took up the wide right role this time and grabbed his sixth domestic goal of the season- every one of them have come at the Bridge.

Wayne Rooney
Dimitar Berbatov didn’t even make the subs bench at the Etihad. The Bulgarian’s brief flirtation with the United first XI wasn’t helped by an insipid display at Newcastle in midweek and Rooney, paired with Danny Welbeck, returned to goalscoring ways with a double in the 3-2 win. That’s 6 goals in his last five starts for the United man and with home clashes against Bolton and Stoke in two of the next three gameweeks, Rooney will surely tempt plenty Fantasy managers to hand him the armband for those games as he threatens to return to the consistency of early season.

Paul Scholes
Although United have been struggling for midfield consistency of late, Scholes’ decision to come out of retirement arguably overshadowed the match itself. A major surprise, given he admitted he felt his legs were gone last season but the only significant aspect of his second half sub appearance was his loss of possession that led to City’s second.

Antonio Valencia
The return of Chris Smalling from tonsillitis allowed Valencia the chance to move back into the midfield once again. Having covered at right-back due to United’s on-going injury worries, his threat has been somewhat nullified but Valencia made an immediate impact back in his favoured position, crossing for Rooney to fire the visitors ahead within the ten minute mark. With Jonny Evans recovered and on the bench, it seems Sir Alex Ferguson’s injury worries are easing up, meaning Valencia can be utilised as an attacking talent by the champions once again.

Sergio Aguero
Another home game, another goal for the Argentine as City battled valiantly to save their cup aspirations. Aguero continues his remarkable streak of form at the Etihad- a look at his FPL stats shows he has returned 10 goals, 4 assists and 14 bonus points at home, compared to 4 goals, 1 assist and 3 bonus points on his travels. With Fulham, Blackburn and Bolton visiting City in three of their next four home games, Aguero offers strong opposition to Robin Van Persie for the armband with those fixtures.

Vincent Kompany
The City skipper now faces a four-match ban after picking up his second red card of the season. Kompany received his marching orders with a mere eleven minutes on the board for a two-footed tackle on Nani and will now miss the upcoming league clashes with Wigan and Spurs, in addition to both the club’s Carling Cup semi-final legs against Liverpool. Roberto Mancini admitted post-match that City will appeal, but if the ban stands, it gives Kompany’s Fantasy owners something of a quandary- currently at 6.6, do they hold on until he is next available on 1st February or move him on with their winter wildcards?

Stephane Sessegnon
Having mainly been deployed in a role just off the main forward by both his managers over the season, Sessegnon led the line for Sunderland at Peterborough yesterday. Nicklas Bendtner was nowhere to be seen but despite three recognised forwards on the bench, O’Neill still preferred Sessegnon as his main striker in a 4-5-1. He may have failed to play a part in any of his side’s two goals but O’Neill’s lineup continues to promote the Benin international as a strong out-of-position contender over the months ahead.

James McClean
The Irishman seems to have the backing of O’Neill and once again vindicated his manager’s faith, playing a prominent role in the Black Cats win. Despite the return of Seb Larsson, McClean kept his place in the first XI, with Kieran Richardson handed a role in central midfield. McClean had already caught the eye of Fantasy managers in his previous two league games, picking up maximum bonus both times and netting in the 4-1 win over Wigan. He continued his goalscoring ways yesterday, notching Sunderland’s second, in addition to picking up an assist for Larsson’s free-kick opener. At 4.5, he’s starting to attract investment and if he continues his recent form, could prove an absolute bargain in the second half of the season.

There are a lot of WCs being played just for the sake of it. I'm on this team and have no intention of playing my WC. Can't help feeling I'm being left behind though.

    Vorm Krul

    Kompany, Enrique, BAE, Simpson, Caulker

    Nani, Mata, SIlva, Bale, Moses

    RVP, Adebayor, Yak

Its a decent team, no real reason to Wildcard.

Spurs fixtures do turn nasty, so you many wanna use your wildcard to wipe an 8 point hit getting rid of some of them.

Is there anyway I can improve this team, I'm pretty happy with it but wonder if I should gamble on Santon over Williamson for Newcastle? or change the keepers? I have no money left in bank though :o(

    Sorensen/ Guzan
    Richards/Enrique/Williamson/Shotton/Kelly
    Silva/Bale/Dempsey/Valencia/McClean
    RVP/Aguerro/Yakubu

    Cheers for any help!

I think if its Lindegaard then you need Vorm. You could be stuck with Sorenson getting mauled away at a top 6 team coming on.

Because you only want to play Stoke defenders at home Lindegaard is a dodgy choice, as it is random when he plays.

            How much is Schwarzer.

I think Mignolet rotates reasonably well, not completely sure on that one though.

Evans and Smalling are both miles better at CB than Jones at the moment.

For all the stick he gets we've actually looked a lot more secure with Evans playing and Ferguson rates him highly so I think he'll get plenty of game time.

    Friedal/Sorensen

    Richards/smalling/Enrique/simpson/shotton (or caulker)

    Silva/Dempsey (valencia?)/bale/sess/ben arfa (McClean?)

    RVP/Aguero/Yakubu (Sturridge?)

Still undecided on 3 positions: Dempsey or Valencia…both in good form, but Fulham’s fixtures look a little more appealing and Dempsey is playing somewhat OOP, however, Valencia plays for a top 2 team and consistently delivers enticing, incisive crosses. For me, he is one of the best in the league. He has looked particularly lively in recent matches and certainly looks to be United’s best hope of unlocking defences, at least in the short-medium term.

yakubu or Sturridge…Yakubu… in form and not bad fixtures and he is the fulcrum and focal point of the team. ..Sturridge…Although with Drogba away his place looks assured, he is coming back from injury and hasn’t looked quite the same player in his last few matches and their still appears to be some unrest in the Chelsea camp. Still, he has proven quality and apart from Man United in gameweek 23, his fixtures look appealing.

HBA or McClean…both starting to feature more in their respective teams, but neither exactly nailed on at the moment. I feel with Ba away, Ben Arfa will get a run in the side and once that happens I feel his undoubted quality will shine through. Playing OOP and with a point to prove it would not be a surprise to see significant returns. McClean is a more unknown quantity, but has shone brightly in recent times, showing form that should keep him involved at least in the short term. Apart from gameweek 24, where both teams have tough matches, both teams have decent fixtures in the short term.

anybody else have similar opinions or deliberations?

I am having the exact same problem on the Valencia/Dempsey issue. I think I might have to go with both to be honest.
I like sturridge and think he will score more than Yak over the coming weeks, plus it's money put aside for the return of Ba if I need him.
Undecided on HBA/Mclean, Mclean for the price might be my 5th. Not looking at HBA.

I said earlier - Ben Arfa still has a bit to prove... for me he's in the same hat as Moses (albeit slightly more expensive).

Looked great against Blackburn - but I think that is all he did in that game.

Worth a punt but I need to see him do it in the Premier League - FA Cup always brings the best out of some... when they are back in the league games, things become very different again

hehe...cheers Ryan...I'm certainly leaning towards HBA as I have been touting him for weeks. He was supposed to be my differential when he returned from injury, but he didn't seem to dovetail with Pardew's plans...top, top player, who is beginning to feel restless with the lack of first team opportunities, the Newcastle fans certainly would not want to see him leave. If he did it would put Pardew under immense pressure...I suspect he has been told that he will get a run with Ba away...

We definitely are going through the same problems. I will simply offer my choices:

Shotton - OOp chance wins it for me.
Dempsey - Can go mental, worth extra .5 easily .
Silva - I would have Valencia over Silva if you have Aguero imo.
Sturridge - Slightly better fixtures and I think Chelsea coverage is essential.

Lots of people considering, & posting their wildcard teams at the minute - but surely its madness to wildcard now?

We already know who the players are, Vorm, Kompany, Silva, Nani,Bale, RVP etc and by default most of us will have a team loaded with these sorts of players. Ive looked at my own and could even go as far as avoiding a 16pt hit - mostly to reorganise a subs bench with the likes of Lindegard, Pilkington, Shotton, Caulker et al but surely its worth considering waiting to see what the January sales bring?

Thierry Henry is to be returning (at what price?), Podolski, Hulk, Hazard, (Will Tevez move?), even this Sigurdsson chap at Swansea on the other end all possible. Maybe Spurs will buy KaKa

    Better to wait?? 😀

Henry doesnt interest me in the slightest and i bet none of those other you mentioned will come to the PL this January. The January transfer window is quite often built up but nothin usually much happens (bar the Suarez, Carroll, Torres moves last season but that was down to new owners etc) I bet if you checked last season after the transfer window i bet most people didnt have more than 1 player who was transfered in January in their team. The odd player or 2 will be easy enough to incorporate in your team without the wildcard.

That is my logic. The only reason to WC now is if people had loads of Everton players. There is no other good reason to WC at this time imo. However anytime after this gameweek is probably good as each week has its advantages. This Game week however has few advantages that I can think of, I just think people are being too trigger happy with their WC

Tevez moving won't affect anything as he won't move to the EPL.

Kaka, Hazard, Hulk, Podolski --> None of them will move to the summer.

Siggurdsson will be on the game this week.

Henry will be on the game this week, but wouldn't have him anyway.

I get your point, but don't agree with it. (I have not yet wildcarded).

Added to the fact that even IF these people came to the Premier League, it would be silly to put them straight in on WC rather than waiting and seeing how they go for at least a few weeks.

perhaps wait for Gibbs to return...fairer value and Arsenal are much more offensive and effective with actual full-backs in the side...I feel this is one of the reasons that RVP has gone off the boil slightly in recent weeks

    Vorm (Ruddy)

    RTaylor Walker NTaylor Baines (Wilkinson)

    Silva Nani Bale Sessegnon Donovan

    RvP Adebayor (Morison)

    Was thinking of going to:

    Vorm Sorenson

    RTaylor NTaylor Senderos Richards Clark

    Dyer Dempsey Sessegnon Bale Silva

    Aguero Adebayor RvP

....With room to go Ade > Torres if he starts to pick up

Adebayor void week 21 v Man City
Spurs fixtures weeks 22 to 27 involve City Liverpool Arsenal & Utd
I looked at Sorensen to rotate with Vorm, went with Krul (bit of uncertainty with Stoke keepers)
Mid and attack looks good, defence not quite as strong

Yeah my def is a bit weak.

You like McClean more than Dyer? I don't fancy playing 3 Swans tbh.

I've looked at the Spurs fixtures, I won't be dropping Bale, but Ade is expendable, but I don't like spending more up front as my def is weak, and I'd only consider Sturridge (who has much better fixtures) or Yak (who allows me to rework the back end)

        Perhaps this one?

        Vorm Sorenson
        Raylor Naylor Clark Richards Baines
        McClean Bale Sess Silva Dempsey
        RvP Aguero Yak

I think that one is a lot more balanced imo. The improved back end makes up for Yak vs Ade, which is a small downgrade imo.

I am not going to tell people what my WC team will be, I may ask questions about it and discuss players I am thinking about but if you get people on here to decide it there are 2 problems:

          1. all WC teams become the same

          2. some of the advice you receive may not be all that good - mentioning no posters names!!!

Can we not just have a generic WC team that we tell all RMTs to have. it would make the whole thing easier....

          Vorm Krul
          Enrique Simpson Shotton Richards BAE
          Bale Nani Silva Walters Sess
          RVP Aguero Sturridge

      Out at lunch!!!

Very similar to me, so much much better!!

Not sure on McLean never seen him play, may just be a one hit wonder but could be a very good 4.5m player, and wouldn't play 3 Swans with their fixture list

      My attack same as you
Mid got Silva Bale Sess Walters & Valencia - may swap Valencia to Dempsey
      Keepers are okay
Defence is harder to guess where clean sheets are, only Man City look good for clean sheets.
      Still undecided on Baines too.

The man was pure heart-break. Loved a goal in the cup games, loved the 1 or 2 pointers in the league. That being said I'm going crawling back to ol' Fernando next week so who am I to say what looks silly!

not bad for a few weeks up to around 28/29 I think but then it's not so good. I don't think it really matters if you have Vorm TBH!

        Just about 😉

I don't see getting rid of Vorm as an option, so I'll stick with Krul/Vorm for the next few weeks at least I think.
