Vincent Kompany receives a four-match ban after picking up his second straight red card of the season. Wayne Rooney bags a brace as United line up a visit to Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup, while James McClean continues to catch the eye of Fantasy managers, with his second goal in as many games:

Ramires
Having played wide right in the last week’s win at Wolves, the Brazilian returned to central midfield for the visit of Portsmouth. Ramires continued his goalscoring exploits, though, following up his strike at Molineux with a double as Chelsea chalked up a somewhat flattering 4-0 win. He also provided an assist for Frank Lampard’s fourth. With Daniel Sturridge still sidelined, Juan Mata took up the wide right role this time and grabbed his sixth domestic goal of the season- every one of them have come at the Bridge.

Wayne Rooney
Dimitar Berbatov didn’t even make the subs bench at the Etihad. The Bulgarian’s brief flirtation with the United first XI wasn’t helped by an insipid display at Newcastle in midweek and Rooney, paired with Danny Welbeck, returned to goalscoring ways with a double in the 3-2 win. That’s 6 goals in his last five starts for the United man and with home clashes against Bolton and Stoke in two of the next three gameweeks, Rooney will surely tempt plenty Fantasy managers to hand him the armband for those games as he threatens to return to the consistency of early season.

Paul Scholes
Although United have been struggling for midfield consistency of late, Scholes’ decision to come out of retirement arguably overshadowed the match itself. A major surprise, given he admitted he felt his legs were gone last season but the only significant aspect of his second half sub appearance was his loss of possession that led to City’s second.

Antonio Valencia
The return of Chris Smalling from tonsillitis allowed Valencia the chance to move back into the midfield once again. Having covered at right-back due to United’s on-going injury worries, his threat has been somewhat nullified but Valencia made an immediate impact back in his favoured position, crossing for Rooney to fire the visitors ahead within the ten minute mark. With Jonny Evans recovered and on the bench, it seems Sir Alex Ferguson’s injury worries are easing up, meaning Valencia can be utilised as an attacking talent by the champions once again.

Sergio Aguero
Another home game, another goal for the Argentine as City battled valiantly to save their cup aspirations. Aguero continues his remarkable streak of form at the Etihad- a look at his FPL stats shows he has returned 10 goals, 4 assists and 14 bonus points at home, compared to 4 goals, 1 assist and 3 bonus points on his travels. With Fulham, Blackburn and Bolton visiting City in three of their next four home games, Aguero offers strong opposition to Robin Van Persie for the armband with those fixtures.

Vincent Kompany
The City skipper now faces a four-match ban after picking up his second red card of the season. Kompany received his marching orders with a mere eleven minutes on the board for a two-footed tackle on Nani and will now miss the upcoming league clashes with Wigan and Spurs, in addition to both the club’s Carling Cup semi-final legs against Liverpool. Roberto Mancini admitted post-match that City will appeal, but if the ban stands, it gives Kompany’s Fantasy owners something of a quandary- currently at 6.6, do they hold on until he is next available on 1st February or move him on with their winter wildcards?

Stephane Sessegnon
Having mainly been deployed in a role just off the main forward by both his managers over the season, Sessegnon led the line for Sunderland at Peterborough yesterday. Nicklas Bendtner was nowhere to be seen but despite three recognised forwards on the bench, O’Neill still preferred Sessegnon as his main striker in a 4-5-1. He may have failed to play a part in any of his side’s two goals but O’Neill’s lineup continues to promote the Benin international as a strong out-of-position contender over the months ahead.

James McClean
The Irishman seems to have the backing of O’Neill and once again vindicated his manager’s faith, playing a prominent role in the Black Cats win. Despite the return of Seb Larsson, McClean kept his place in the first XI, with Kieran Richardson handed a role in central midfield. McClean had already caught the eye of Fantasy managers in his previous two league games, picking up maximum bonus both times and netting in the 4-1 win over Wigan. He continued his goalscoring ways yesterday, notching Sunderland’s second, in addition to picking up an assist for Larsson’s free-kick opener. At 4.5, he’s starting to attract investment and if he continues his recent form, could prove an absolute bargain in the second half of the season.

Sorry but why does Kompany being suspended make you happy you didn't WC?
If you have him and haven't WC'd that's not a good thing, and if you don't have him but were going to get him on WC you could just transfer him out anyway.

I don't think gordon will be back in until next season unless we have injuries. He's been out too long and is too injury prone. Mignolet, while not the perfect choice, is decent enough and should be 1st choice for the rest of season.

mignolet and vorm don't pair well. After GW23 they play home and away at the same time. Would keep Sess. Milner or ben area don't start regularly and valencia has v hard fixtures coming up (esp after 23)...apart from that great!

i would imagine it will be

        Richards Savic Lescott Clichy

Dont think Kolarov will play in league after his performance yesterday, Clichy is more solid.
Only other option would be Zabaleta RB and Richards moves to CB, but I am not sure Mancini trusts Richards at CB and I think he will more likely go Savic.

Looking forward to the Spurs game on Wednesday for some clues as to how they will play on Saturday vs West Brom. Was all set to keep my DGW team with VDV, Bal and Ade in for one more week, but not sure now Rooney scored two yesterday....? I'm half fancying a couple of Spurs 1-0 wins this week, there by meagre returns for attacking players. Whereas Rooney could destroy a Cahill-less Bolton? I'm tempted to play the stock market and take my DGW points bonus and return to my original team that was doing well and offload VDV and Ade and knobber Hibbert on WC and get back Walters and Roon plus Shawcross. Worried if I don't any DGW points will be eroded by not having Rooney this weekend, who I've had since day one. Be just about right to miss a hat-trick!

    Thoughts?

You do realise there is things called 'free transfers'
Meaning if you have used your WC already, you can take a punt on a new arrival.
Added to the fact that it would probably be stupid to pick someone up before they have at least started 1 PL game for their new club.

Better player in a better team, don't like the idea of a Fulham midfielder for £8.5M if I'm honest. Just seems too much. Plus now that Drogs has gone off to ACON there's one less person to take the penalties off Mata.

Like that penalties input there Bubbles. He showed his face to Drogba when he took it too, quite likely he could be taking them....still I absolutely love Dempsey as a player, he has at least 2-3 goal scoring opportunities every game. Fulham or not, Dempsey is worth the 8.5, with Jol's attacking theorum I think he's a better shout. Don't forget Chelsea were outclassed by Aston Villa a couple games ago...

My rival has take the philosophy in that Vorm rotates well with Vorm. Having Hilario has reserve.

Knowing this i did Mignolet rotates well with Mignolet knowing they kept city scorless.

            How so?

If you are talking about gordon i doubt it very much. Not with how mignolet has been playing. Even so they are the same price.(Very unlikely).

Gordon is almost 30 . and Mignolet is 23. Obviously they will invest in the future.

Gordon and Westwood - plenty of doubt there.

30 is not old for a keeper - Gordon has at least 5 or 6 good years left in him.

I'm also talking about Bogdan, who is obviously not first choice if Jussi is fit.

I did watch the City match, Mignolet was good - I could name a few matches Westwood has shone this season too - against Man Utd for example.

All I'm saying is there's doubt.... and I wouldn't want to play a Sunderland keeper in every match anyway.

obviously - in your opinion, aboslutely nothing to back that up.

Westwood Mignolet and Gordon are all good keepers therefore I would avoid all 3. I would imagine MON will take rest of season to decide who his no. 1 is and may actually rotate all 3.

to be honest when your other keeper is Bogdan its pretty hard to take you seriously, why dont you link your team?

ok, that was a bit harsh.

          keepers - OK
def - double FUL not healthy. Kelly > Shotton (good fixtures and OOP)
          mid - Milner > Walters
for - strong but a lot of money tied up there.

I quite like this 🙂 but I'd change one of your fulham defenders to Shotton to mix it up a bit. Your only problem is deciding which of your big frontmen to captain each week. If you nail that each week you'd score well every week.......... but I can't help but feel that several 6.5 midfielders will outscore both Milner and Ramirers but they're your picks.

silva, aguero, walters and sigurdsson (swansea)

all of theses players fixtures for gwks 22/23 arent the best so im looking at taking a punt on a couple of players instead of thses and them switching after gwk23. which 2 players would u go for? im currently thinking

    a) mata/torres - silva/aguero
    b) larsson/mclean - walters/sigurdsson

But Mata if you have to choose one. Penos, set-pieces, form, fixtures, (C) material at home.
Studge still remains a bargain buy if Chelsea don't sign any more natural wingers, which might affect his starting place. After GW24, take your call. But might as well Ba then.

Right lads, finally recovered from the cup game yesterday. Fergie right to give the boys the hairdryer treatment I reckon.

Thoughts on a potential wc team (probs week 24 when spuds/city fixtures turn)

    Schwarzer Vorm
    Richards Enrique ShawX Naylor Simpson
    Valencia Bale Silva Sess Cabaye
    RVP Kun Studge

I bought Kompany for 6.3. Am WCing this week - do I get Richards in for 6.3, or go without MCI def cover for the duration of Kompany's suspension?

    Thanks

Wait for the verdict on the appeal, then when it is upheld, go for Richards.

Any opinions on my first Wildcard draft, not thinking about playing it until after the next GW so I'm aware Schwarzer isn't fit atm but I'll only select him if he is.

    Sorensen Schwarzer
    Richards Enrique Evans Simpson Cahill
    Nani Dempsey Cabaye Bale McClean
    Aguero Sturridge RVP

      Looks alright.

Like the keeper combo as long as Sorenson keeps the #1 spot.
Not sure Evans will be nailed on with Rafael,Smalling and Jones all back.
Like the Cabaye punt, also rotates well with McClean.
I'm going for the same front 3. Presumably Sturridge->Ba when he gets back?

Old news I guess but Henry is 7.5m - seems like a fair price, might be worth a punt depending on gametime.

Anyone know if Sturridge is likely to be back for the weekend?

I think he'll play some games up top to give RvP a rest, and some coming in from the left in Gervinho's position.

No news on Sturridge anywhere! Do you reckon Henry will start? I read an interview where he said expects to spend most of his time on the bench.

24-27 isn't too bad. I'd start him in 2 of those and then be happy to have him as first sub in the other two.

Doubt he'll start for a week or two anyhow.

Hasn't played much the past few months, Rodgers will ease him into it.

        Ugh disagree!
Henry is just the right price that is going to make me stupidly put him in at one point.
Was hoping he'd be something ridiculous so I wasn't tempted!
Also disappointed his history before '06 isn't there.

    Richards, JEvans, Shotton, Simpson, Senderos
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Walters, McLean
    RVP, Aguero, Sturridge
