The Friday kick-off snaps into life in the second half as Brighton draw Bournemouth’s sting on a night of modest Fantasy returns.

Ibe introduction inspires Cherries revival

Bournemouth huffed and puffed as an attacking unit, with Charlie Daniels undoubtedly their most likely source of danger from left-back. Until Jordan Ibe’s introduction, that is.

The winger was Eddie Howe’s response to falling behind, replacing the disappointing Ryan Fraser on 65 minutes.

First Ibe’s sublime backheel laid on Andrew Surman for his assured strike. The winger then collected a cleared corner kick to thread Jermain Defoe in for the winner.

That was Defoe’s first goal back at the club, and could now provide the catalyst for further returns.

But in truth, his combination with Josh King is still a work in progress which stuttered throughout, with little understanding on show between the pair.

Defoe and King will now look to Ibe to feed them chances with a trip to Everton up next. Ibe would seem almost certain to earn a start at Goodison Park after his intervention on Friday.

Gross makes his mark

While on the losing side and part of a largely unambitious Brighton performance, Pascal Gross still emerged with great credit.

It was his superb cross that provided Solly March’s opening goal.

Prior to that, Gross had also provided two corners that presented the visitors with golden opportunities.

He was eventually replaced on 76 minutes, having earlier received treatment for a knee injury. He played on with the knock and, as it stands, there are no reports that he has suffered any repercussions.

The German’s contribution earned him two bonus points and a seven-point tally to reward the 193,000+ that had snapped him up following his 18 points in Gameweek 4.

While the Seagulls were hopelessly negative for much of the match, Gross could still prosper over a run of favourable home fixtures.

They face Newcastle United at the Amex Stadium next, with Everton, Southampton, Stoke City and Crystal Palace making up the next five opponents on the south coast.

Gross has been signed by over 10,000 managers overnight – second only to Manchester United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Who to replace Pogba until he returns?! I can make changes up to KO...

D.Silva - only Jesus from City
    Mkhi - maintain Utd cover
    Salah - no Liverpool cover
    Someone else??

    Help please, struggling to pick..

Is it worth doing Lukaku to Vardy if it also means I can do Alexander-Arnold to Alonso? This is my squad.

    Forster, Elliot
    Davies, Bertrand, Cedric, Mee, Alexander-Arnold
    Mkhitaryan, Eriksen, Ritchie, Carroll, Loftus-Cheek
    Kane, Lukaku, Firmino

It sounds awful, but I think there will be a shift away from lukaku, with Kane the locked in captain for many, a cheaper striker allows hazard or whoever to come in.

Saying that vardy hasn't been shooting all that much I don't think? Perhaps he won't maintain his impressive start.

Liverpool's win percentage with Sadio Mane: 63.3%
Liverpool's win percentage without Sadio Mane: 41.7%

Dreadfully dire manager. He favours a 4-4-2 flat back four with a deep line. Since Benteke is CP's only decent striker perhaps he'll play Zaha off him. Best to avoid Woy tho his team's rarely ever produce decent fantasy prospects and the fact the man is the oldest ever PL manager bodes even less well.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Tackling the Gameweek 6 fixture shift

Next Gameweek marks a significant shift in the fixture list when relatively low owned players enjoy a strong run of matches.

Meanwhile, more popular players start to see their fixtures turn.

Pre v Post GWK 6 ownership

In terms of ownership - in goal and defence the most heavily backed teams are Manchester United, West Brom, Chelsea, Tottenham and Southampton.

In midfield and attack - Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham dominate.

But a look at the next five fixtures reveals that the teams with the best set of fixtures now also include Arsenal, Everton, Swansea, West Ham, Leicester and Manchester City.

How are you planning to tackle this change in the fixture list?

Will you be investing in premium attackers and defenders from Arsenal and Manchester City?

Will you be looking to take advantage of the change in fixtures for Everton and Leicester?

Which players make way? Your Manchester United or Liverpool assets perhaps?

To get the discussion underway here are some key players that I think are worthy of looking at over the next few fixtures.

    Key Players to Consider

Jamie Vardy – Priced at 8.5 he has already scored three in four games and earned four bonus. A visit from that a travel sick Liverpool defence, West Brom and Everton as well as trips to Bournemouth and Swansea look enticing for the Leicester striker.

Harry Maguire – Another strong option among the Foxes ranks who offers multiple points potential, having earned maximum bonus, an assist, a goal and a clean sheet already this term.

Gabriel Jesus – still the man most likely to start – albeit with curtailed pitch time - amid Pep’s rotation merry go round. Just one in ten managers own him, but with three goals already and wat CPL STK BUR in his next five he looks ideally placed for returns. Could he even be a replacement for Lukaku? M’colleague on the Scoutcast Andy has already made the move, which could certainly pay off over the next month or so.

Sead Kolasinac – for those that have opted for two 4.5 midfielders a strong back four looks essential. With two assists, bonus on two occasions and a goal midweek in the Europa League this attack minded Arsenal defender looks an ideal target for the coming Gameweeks. WBA, BHA and SWA at home in the next six give him the chance of returns at both ends of the pitch.

Which other players do you have your eye on?

And is this perhaps a great week to wildcard, especially ocnsidering many of the above won’t be in many sides?

Have Lacazette and few do. Kola is almost essential.

Looking to do Alonso or Mendy to Kolasinac at some stage, depending which performs. Otherwise would downgrade Morata/Lukaku to Vardy. Not touching Liverpool til Mane is back, personally have seen enough of Salah at Roma playing well with 0 end product.

Yep I have no room for Vardy but am monitoring.

Kola is the one I want with those fixtures. Really warming to investing at the back. Having Davies is nice - to see Kola next to him over the next month would be even better.

City a constant worry - but so too Pep's rotation.

I haven't mentioned Chelsea by the way - but I'm hoping others do. They continue to have good fixtures and Morata looks a great prospect as does the now excellently priced Gary Cahill.

That is an excellent back line. You can go four at the back if you want some weeks but also be safe in the knowledge that any one or more of those three defenders could double digit haul.

If I lose rotation-magnet Salah, I can get Sanchez, Kane, Lukaku and Jesus in my team.

This relies on £5.5m mids, but to be honest the choice in midfield is woeful so far this season. £5.5m mids is the only bracket of interest to me.

He was only rotated once tbh. The other one was due to a red card. They won't get a red card every game. Besides, he has the highest xG in the game after Lukaku and Kane. If he was a better finisher, he would be considered essential around here.

I tried to fit in Sanchez, Kane and Lukaku in the team even prior to GW1 and it just absolutely wrecked the rest of my team. Most people here have 5 premium attackers (Mkhi/Firmino being the cheap 5th one). As you said, with Sanchez, Kane and Lukaku, you can afford only one more. I think it's best to go with just two of those. Anyone over 10m is bad value when they're not being captained.

Whilst I agree Salah looks a poor finisher when watching the matches, I was listening to an LFC podcast (Anfield Index) this morning and there was a debate on his current level that I thought was worth sharing...

His shot conversion stats for the season is 21.5%, higher than Messi and Kaku this season. His big chance conversion is 40%, which is just above the average of 37-38%. He is currently scoring or assisting every 91 minutes in his first 6 matches with a brand new team.

Based on his form and Mane's red, he really is not a rotation magnet. From watching him this season, he looks just as important to this Liverpool team as Mane. My only slight concern is that he starts to look a little tired towards the end of games. Obviously time will tell, but he is currently performing at al elite level.

Based on your logic Coutinho will then get marked out of the game...

Also they are very different players, I don't see Coutinho making penetrating runs behind the defence, so it's a little unfair to compare.

Not saying he isn't a good pick, but Coutinho could very feasibly be playing deeper this season, which reduces his appeal for me.

That conversion stat is confusing because the website that's showing his xG tell exactly the opposite story.

His xG so far is 3.11 even though he's only scored 2 goals, meaning his finishing has been below average.

Lukaku's xG so far is 4.26 and he's scored 4 goals, meaning he's been putting away his chances effectively.

So one of the two sources has to be wrong.

When you say shot conversion, you mean shots that resulted in goals right?

I've brought Sanchez into my side. Hoping for big things.

I'm not sure about Vardy. He can't keep scoring with every goal attempt.

I'm tempted to go cheap in midfield and invest in defence, but these immortal words echo in my head ...

        "You can't run from a Loftus-Cheek."

I'm thinking of getting tshirts made.

I think the Loftus Cheek and Carroll move can be great - but relies on having the flexibility to play four at the back and benching both of these cut price mids.

If you have two 4.5 you need a strong defence in my opinion - which makes one or two of Kolasinac, Davies, Chelsea defender, Mendy great- especially as many of them are behaving like midfielders.

A strong defence means you can run from Loftus Cheek - by leaving him on the bench.

            Fair point.

I've been very underwhelmed by the choice in the mid priced mids bracket. The £6m to £7m defenders like Kola and Mendy seem much more appealing.

It looks like this preseason article was spookily accurate http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2017/07/19/premium-defenders-v-mid-price-midfielders/

Carroll and RLC dovetail well over this run and I don't see the issue is having to play one of them.

Carroll should be on set-plays and might just tick along - he was unfortunate with Mawson's header not to get a first assist on Sunday. Playing him vs Watford at home in GW6 looks ok as long as expectations are managed.

Obviously fielding a 4.5 mid is a compromise but it's about what the 1.0 or 1.5 you save does for you elsewhere. It's the difference between two 4.5 defenders or two 5.0's or a 4.0 defender and an extra 4.5 to call on. I think the pros outweigh the cons currently, at least until we see a Josh King figure come forward.

              Agree entirely Mark.

They have good fixtures and have both missed out on points often. RLC had a clear assist until Benteke skied a shot.

Both of them allows big upgrades elsewhere and I'm fine playing one of them every week

I agree with this. To substantially improve on the RLC/Carroll rotation (or Chalobah, or Cork) you would need to find at least 1m, maybe 1.5m to upgrade one of them to a Brady or a Ritchie. If that 1.5m is getting you added points elsewhere then does it really matter if you have a base price player averaging 3 points per game, maybe 3.5?

It's not what you get per player that counts, it's what you get per £100m budget.

One of the reasons I have held my wildcard is because I don't see a clear pattern in the season yet and especially not where the budget attacker value is. Getting on the budget attacker merry-go-round is a recipe for unending problems. Although that is actually what I have inadvertently done myself by bringing Chicharito in only to see him shifted wide. So I am now on the carousel that I meant to avoid. 🙂

Well, I have to say that it makes no sense to me, Doos. Chicha isn't an all-round footballer, he is a goal poacher. He'll nick opportunist goals with regularity but he'll do little else so what can he contribute from the wing? It would make more sense to me if Bilic were playing 3-5-2 or 4-4-2, Hernandez alongside Carroll would be more understandable. Probably for the players as well I'd imagine.

Indeed so. And there is lovely Ayew, a left-footed winger, languishing on the bench. Indeed, we have three left footers, and one both, in the squad.

                    There is simply no excuse.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking. 4-4-2 with Antonio and Ayew in the wide positions and a couple of solid CMs. Unfashionable but I think West Ham would be dangerous in that kind of set-up.

It does indeed. Sort of wish I had now. But at least now we get to see if Everton really can improve with better fixtures and also monitor Arsenal, City line ups and Leicester a bit more.

Wildcarding ahead of GWK 8 in the next international break is looking very appealing now - with the continued fixture shift, money to be made and the benefit of a couple ore weeks knowledge of teams that haven't had good fixtures on the whole so far.

Probably not - I like having at least one of those 5-6m mids....they are the ones that often see the price rises and do well in good fixture runs. Ritchie has delivered me returns over the last two for example. Gross has delivered Az and his owners 25 pts in the last two games!

Also I'm not overly keen on four at the back for me as I hate wishing for no goals - much better to wish for goals - more exciting.

As said though - I'm not against two 4.5 for others - but I do think for those that have it they need to have the flexibility to field a strong back four. Without decent defenders you are forced to field a bad defender or a bad midfielder every week.

Jonty you say your not keen on a back four as you hate wishing for no goals...but if your defence includes the likes of davies/kola/mendy/alonso/ then you csn also hope for assists & the odd goal here and there. This is my plan. 6 gameweeks is enough to provide ample evidence through stats etc regarding teams and players to make more informed decisions. Im definitely staying away from Everton. They've had a shocking few games. Kolasinac from Arsenal is my biggest target as well as Mahrez/Maguire. Vardy won't keep up his conversion rate. Silva and Antonio could turn out good MF assets but aren't essential

Vardy is a good option IMHO, he's nailed, can score when his team aren't playing well and his price isn't too bad.

Fabianski may be a better pick than Foster to rotate with Elliot.

Arsenal are the team I'm looking at for signs of improvement that may make me get one of their players.

I've WCded and had Kola from the start. Season keeper for me and absolute beast and hopefully he can cash in on the forthcoming fixtures.

Next week will have 2 FTs and already been looking at what difference taking Lukaku out for Vardy/Jesus. The one thing I don't like about Pep is he's more than likely to rest some players for "easy" fixtures, his rotation policy isn't the best for FF players!

Lukaku's ownership does make me want to proceed with extreme caution though. People are saying his fixtures are turning for the worse but look at the other side and think not many teams if any are going to look forward to playing Man United this year...

It is a great week to do a wildcard, but remember folks, we cant have em all. Man City's and Spurs fixtures look great so investing in those teams look essential. Not convinced that Lukaku can keep up the scoring record, and with Pogba out, he's gone for me. Rashford and Fellaini free up so much cash fro Spurs assets and a punt on Jesus.

Jesus is a cert for me.

Is Abraham worthy of consideration as an enabler? Not willing to go without Kane or Jesus for the upcoming fixtures, so ultimately it depends whether I'm willing to have Gross/Choupo as my 3rd & 4th mids to allow me a heavy front 3.

Have had Alonso since the start of the season, but am very tempted to lose him in the short term to afford a starting defence of Davies/Kola/Mendy.

Can't afford City unless I ditch a premium player so would be a sideways move, though Firmino and Salah could move out if they prove too much of a rotation risk. Lukuka to Jesus also an option though only if I can upgrade elsewhere significantly as well

Had my eyes on all them you mentioned Jonty and I put in Mahrez this gw.

I kind of forced myself through tough times to get to this stage where the wildcard could now rear it's head.

Hazard from gw 8 sounds nice

Getting Kola next week. Monitoring Jesus, Vardy, Morata to replace Lukaku but probably not until gw8, United fixtures too good til then

Mendy will come in regardless that week so will try to roll ft in 7, although Antonio is on the watchlist if the hammers start to perform.

I have Sanchez, Jesus and Sterling already. Am going to monitor Everton assets and see how Vardy copes without Drinkwater, as he could replace Firmino, but I'm not wholly convinced by Leicester this season.

Did Valencia to Davies this week and next week I saved funds for Bertrand > Kolasinac. I'll then rotate Naughton and Suttner over the next month, or play 4 at the back and bench one of my 5.5 mids. Have Groß, Choupo-Moting and Carroll. I want to monitor Everton first, and the only attacking Arsenal threat I'd want is Sanchez and I'm not going to pay 11.9 for someone I won't captain considering Kane's fixtures.

        Jonty

        Does Mahrez not intrest you?

10 GA, 5 KP. 3 assists and had a nightmare start. When you look at mkhy who played against non job defences at start but now their games toughen up. Surely he a better option?

I wildcarded this week with the fixture swing in mind.

        * I brought Jesus and Kolasinac in; sold Soton defensive assets and Mounie which seemed like worthwhile sacrifices, but also had to sell Alonso, with Jones coming in as a replacement.
        * Keeping Firmino for the next 2 then most likely switching to Vardy.
        * I may go with someone from Everton such as Keane, but want to see some evidence of form and confidence before going there.
        * Chelsea assets need consideration as well. Have my eye on Hazard. Expensive but his history speaks for itself. Cahill seems very good value at 6.3, too.

definitely thinking of bringing WC forward to take advantage of fixtures & extra time for value increases.
Man City - have Jesus but Pep rotation puts me off mids & defs.
Swansea - don't really have a "Siggy" anymore that could capitalize on fixtures. Had Siggy & other Swansea last December when they had great fixtures and returned nothing.
West Ham - need to show some form no matter what the fixtures.
Leicester - definitely keeping an eye on Maguire, Vardy & Mahrez.
Everton - maybe a defender but not a lot of excitement in mids or forwards even though there are some good prices there.
Arsenal - Have Kola. watching mids but realistic options (Sanchez & Ozil) woud require a major reshuffle of funds already in defence & forwards.

I have had kolasinac since Gw1. I like the idea of a totally diversified team at this early stage and by that i mean no doubling ups on any team + having players from all 6 "big teams". Picking the best value offered in each team and sticking to some basic "pillar"s such as. :8.5 on 2GKs, one DF 4.0 (not tempted to rotate) and one 4.5 MF(active but never starter) allows for near minimum funds benched + participation in more matches and hence more sources for points. Unless my players get ravaged by injuries or suspension i will stick to my current team doing some microsurgery and moving into (setpiece/playemaker) MFs with better changing schedules:

        Elliot/foster
        Alonso/kolasinac/bavies/lowe/long
        KDB/mooy/ritchie/brady/carroll
        Lukaku/kane/firmi

I am looking at getting Kolasinac in and maybe Vardy. I want Lukaku for the next few and am happy to keep Jones. Will switch to Maguire and Jesus probably around Gwk8.

Wildcarded this week, and started to prepare.

        Elliot (Woodman)
        Davies Maguire Kolasinac Jones (Hünemeier)
        Salah Antonio Ritchie (RLC Carroll)
        Kane Lukaku Jesus

Got a few options, downgrading Ritchie to a 4.5 etc, to react to form.

To be honest I'm a bit scared (played my wildcard), that I will have got it wrong through going early, and those who wildcard in GW8 can get in those players I've missed.

Think everyone will get Kolasinac...hopefully Bellerin has a good game this weekend then I can get him instead- nailedness would swing it for me (can't see Debuchy getting prem time).

Firmino to Vardy could be a nice move. I'd like Sanchez to reemerge as well.

Won't wildcard because of fixture change, but if my team needs it- so be it!

Lukaku still has CRY in 2Gws which may well mark his first hatrick in Manutd shirt..I guess till CRY fixture its best to hold on Manutd assets...As far as Arsenal are concerned, people forget how poor they have been lately...1 good performance against struggling BOU cant undo the fact that they toiling..Badly
Best bet in Chelsea could still be Hazard over Morata thanks better quality and penos in locker. Good time to buy him is after City match in GW7

Personally think your a week early to the fixture swing. Utd, Pool and Spurs have a decent fixture. Arsenal didn't do so well last time they met West Brom and Everton haven't showed any sign of life yet. GW6 will only give us info into how best to proceed but I wouldn't making a move on any of these players this week. City shouldn't count, they've had a good run of fixtures so far and continue to have so. A top 4 team aren't as dependant as fixtures as middle table teams and Jesus and Kun are capable of scoring in any and every game.

Next week might be a good time to WC but probably safer to wait for the IB instead of WC'ing the week before and potentially getting stung with injuries.

For £89 a season you can subscribe to Citeh TV and watch a HD stream of the players scratching their balls and adjusting their shorts in the tunnel.

That kind of pre match stuff?

      Foster
      Alonso / Kola / Davies / Maguire / Jones
      Eriksen / Siggy
      Lukaku / Vardy / Lacazette
      (Myhill, Atsu, Carroll, Romeo/RLC)

5 transfers can give me this, changing to a radical 523, thoughts?

Would be the safer pick but might punt on Siggy for the next 3.

I'm toying with transfers to my team for coming weeks and what would you say about:

      GKs: Foster/Elliot
      Core:
      Bavies/Kola/Mendy
      Eriksen/Miki/Ritchie
      Kane/Kaku/Firmino
For last spot, rotation between: Lowe/TC/Chalobah

      ?

        Nice.

I prefer Fab/Elliot but much of a muchness.

Are there any better 4.5 defs with fixtures better than Lowe?

Not a fan of TC. Looked really poor against Newcastle. I personally like Cork.

In summary I think it's a good team and I'm splitting hairs about cheap players whose points aren't going to have a major impact on the season.

It's not a WC so yah I think it is possible to fit in better cheap options however this core with strong def started to tempting me. If fixtures shift it is also possible to downgrade Kaku to Morata and upgrade Miki

Hello everyone, recently I've been considering the option of playing with 5 defenders. Please check my current squad:
      Elliot - Foster
      Davies - Cédric - Alonso - Naughton* - Rosenior*
      Ramsey - David Silva - Loftus-Cheek - Carroll - Mkhitaryan*
      Lukaku - Kane - Firmino

By downgrading Mkhitaryan, I can actually get:
      Mendy* - Kolasinac* - Chalobah*

Later on, I could try to do Cedric to Maguire (if I can afford it, of course).

      Any comments?

Don't downgrade Mkhi, downgrade Silva or Ramsey tbh.

And get Alonso instead of Mendy as he is on free kicks

          Thank you for the reply.

I have already got Alonso. 🙂

Downgrading Mkhi seems to be the only way to fit this defense in the budget without touching Lukaku - Kane - Firmino.

        Available options:
        1) Naughton* - Rosenior* - Ramsey* > Kolasinac* - Maguire* - Chalobah* + 0.1 ITB (cannot afford a City def. Walker/Mendy)
        2) Naughton* - Rosenior* - David Silva* > Kolasinac* - Maguire* - Chalobah* + 1.2 ITB (cannot afford a City def. Walker/Mendy)
        3) Naughton* - Rosenior* - Mkhitaryan* > Mendy* - Kolasinac* - Chalobah* + 0.0 ITB

Sané to get a start I reckon. I'd love him to get a run in the team, friendly price now too. Wouldn't be surprised to see G.Jesus' minutes managed after midweek.

Bit early as games haven't been played yet, but which of these would seem best for the next few weeks for 3rd mid and 3rd striker in 433?

      A) Morata and Chupo-Moting
      B) Firmino and Mhki
      C) Joselu and Hazard

Feel like A gives me another captain option (I don't have Kane, have lukaku and Jesus), B is balanced but most likely to be a rotation risk and C is a early punt given Hazard isn't fully back yet

Next four Liverpool have tough away games to Leicester and Newcastle then they play Utd and Spurs.

They are Mané less. A poor start in champions league means they can't afford to rest players there.

Salah could well miss one of the 'easier' games against Lei or New.

Arsenals fixtures look great. If there ever was a time to invest in them it's now.

Double Arsenal seems a bit hasty at this point, even with their good run of fixtures coming up. I like the Kolasinac pick though. Ramsey less so and I couldn't lose Salah, he's one of the most explosive players in the league already.
