Injuries

Reports surfacing this morning from Argentina have stated that Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero has been involved in a car accident and will face up to three months on the sidelines.

City have since confirmed the accident and have issued a statement indicating that the player is due back at the club for assessment prior to the weekend meeting with Chelsea. No details of his confirmed injuries are offered up at this stage, although a press conference today will surely shed light on the situation.

Aguero is said to have suffered a fractured rib having been a passenger in a taxi en route to the airport in Amsterdam when the vehicle lost control and struck a column on the side of the road.

Sources in Argentina have already said that the striker could miss six to eight weeks due to the injury, which would obviously rule him out of the Gameweek 7 clash and Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers to follow.

Notably, Independiente, Aguero’s former club, wished the striker a “speedy recovery” on social media.

The news will come as a major shock and blow to Manchester City who only yesterday confirmed that left-back Benjamin Mendy had suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury in the win over Crystal Palace.

Aguero was in superb form having struck a recent hat-trick at Watford in Gameweek 5, followed by an 11-point return with a goal and an assist against Palace last time out.

That form had triggered a huge rush of interest from Fantasy Premier League managers who had made Aguero the single biggest bandwagon of the season following his 20-point haul at Vicarage Road. Over 770,000 FPL managers swooped ahead of Gameweek 6.

The striker is currently part of 1.3 million squads, with his owners now waiting on further confirmation before doubtless moving to replace Aguero.

Gabriel Jesus – who was omitted from the Gameweek 6 line-up by manager Pep Guardiola – would seem assured of regular starts in the central striker role should Aguero’s injury be confirmed.

Equally, Raheem Sterling’s stock as a 7.9 midfield option would rise given his recent form, with continued starts more likely.

It’s an incredible twist of events that could de-rail Aguero and maybe City’s early season form. The timing coincides exactly with last season’s slump which followed ten successive victories.

We can only join in wishing Aguero a safe and quick recovery.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Yeah was really pissed when I heard the news. I don't have him in my fpl team in fact I'm a United fan but now when he has finally found form and a spot in the lineup after that overated bald pr**k tried getting rid last season he gets injured

The Aguero injury highlights the change I have long advocated to FPL: an extra free transfer if your player is expected to be out for a month or more

^This. Funny those people who always make their transfers early to catch the prices, then curse their bad luck when a player gets injured. A little reading in probability would do a lot of good.

This. All part of the game, if you want to get the price rises early you take these sort of risks (which are relatively small but do happen)

Injuries are part of the game mate. It's the risk you take getting transfers in early to escape price rises

Doesnt matter if a player is out for a week or a year. You know the risks of an early transfers.

    7. _Make
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 2 months ago

No way. Not for me. it's part of the game. It seems unfair sometimes what if the player is only predicted to be out for, say, three and a half weeks? Similar problem for the owner but no benefit.

We get a free transfer a week and can roll one for two, plus we can make unlimited transfers for hits and we have two wildcards. Squad management is part of the game and if you can't handle injuries you're not using transfers wisely.

      1. Gangster Panda
        • 9 Years

Totally agree. Furthermore, they'll be casuals still transferring him in until he gets red-flagged & they wonder why.

this is why we have a squad of 15 to choose from

    9. Sharkytect

Ridiculous suggestion. The predicted length of time out injured is impossible to base something like that on.

Keeping to a big standard set of rules is what makes this game interesting; they allow for infinite scenarios. No need for more complex rules

Andy King 4.4, Leicester don't have James or Silva so he looks set to be starting in the 'Drinkwater Role' for the time being.

Ben Davies 5.7, he's the Tottenham Hotspurs left wing-back currently.

Any chance of Kane or Lukaku being rested?

I'm thinking Lukaku might be? Wednesday away trip to Russia was a bit more taxing than Kane's Tuesday night trip and it's the ideal game to give him a rest.
