As entry opens for the Members-only Paddy Power Cup VI, we’ve almost reached the final stage of it’s predecessor. Gameweek 22 saw four fantasy managers face off in the Semi-Finals of the Paddy Power Cup V. In case you missed the summary in this week’s ScoutCast, here is how the two ties panned out…

sleepingmaster 48 – 41 ChickenDevil

sleepingmaster advances to the Grand Final after a seven-point win over ChickenDevil. A late fight-back courtesy of Antonio Valencia’s 13-point haul wasn’t enough to close the gap after Stephane Sessegnon and, to a lesser degree, Ciaran Clark’s performances the day before.

Sitting 59,659th in the world, sleepingmaster advances as the underdog, but is safe in the knowledge that he’s already pocketed prizes worth over £100. ChickenDevil will have to settle for a Gameweek 23 3rd-place play-off to bag a prize.

Raasclart 26 – 37 Funkyav

Eleven points was the margin of victory for Funkyav over Raasclart, who has John Ruddy’s unlikely clean sheet against Chelsea to thank. With Funkyav backing a heavy Chelsea win, seeing as his team boasted the likes of Juan Mata and captain Daniel Sturridge, fortune was certainly on his side.

Congratulations to sleepingmaster and Funkyav for reaching the Grand Final! A preview article will follow…

I saw it - tbh as a Gooner I honestly think it's very clear, definitely made contact and doesn't look accidental in the slightest. Suspension possible, although the FA is slow at this stuff so I wouldn't be surprised if he still gets to play Blackburn and Bolton, and if they appeal I'm pretty sure he will.

Welbeck is class, almost 1 in 2 this season and works like a horse. What else can he do?! Chicha has had running injuries, he played pretty much non stop for 14 months. SAF has said he's only been playing at his peak again for the last 2 weeks in training. Too many blows to his noggin. All Utd need in the summer is Modric, and 'Arry walking out on Spurs should make that happen. Triffic.

He's good but good enough to start for Utd? Come on! He showed he's not ready yesterday, made a class run, received the ball and made the wrong decision by knocking it round Reina straight to Skrtl.

I've total faith in Welbz. Still young, still learning his game, still makes bad decisions. What was Henry doing aged 21? Stinking up Serie A? He'll come good, bet he starts for Eng-er-land this summer too.

Welbeck has a future at United. He has a good mentality and attitude, good build on him and physical attributes, and will improve his decision making in time.

The way we've played this season has meant we're not accommodating Hernandez and playing to his strengths last year. His approach play his terrible so Welbeck is getting the nod.

Did Arsenal have to play 3 midfielders in defence for 3 weeks? Have they have their captain and best defender missing for most of the season? Did they lose one of their best midfielders to a chronic stomach illness? Did they lose their most gifted young midfielder to an oafish challenge from Davies?

A lot more injuries, do me a favour, they've just had LB and RB problems.

That was a 50/50 full blooded challenge. Holden could just have easily injured Evans. Davies was from behind and completely reckless, Cleverley didn't even see him coming.

I think we were both fooked pretty good tbh. And Arsenal have come off worse because we have less squad depth because Wenger can't/won't spend what it takes to stay in the CL.

United: Vidic, Owen, Young, Cleverley, Rafael, Fabio, Jones on-off, Hernandez on-off, Rio on-off
Arsenal: Wilshere, Sagna, Santos, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Diaby, Arteta on-off, Verm on-off

You forgot Anderson, but with him and Cleverly out Fergie shouldnt be having to play defenders at CM. Tired of ManU fans having a go at us. 4 full backs out and we struggle, no surprises there.

AP's post was just about his team, I don't see a dig there. Maybe from other Reds perhaps. Fact is we both have had tons of injuries. And losing the fullbacks has been the main problem, our defence has gone to pieces. The main thing is that we've ended up having to play frankly undeveloped youth team players (Coquelin, Yennaris, Miquel and Jenkinson - the foursome of fail) whereas United have had a bit more depth and at least can play established players out of position.

It's not even just a criticism of the managers, it's also the difference in resources available to us. Silent Stan or whatever, we are not getting the investment a CL team needs to stay a CL team.

Your right, its more a grudge against other people than AP.

I kinda like Miguel, but it is amazing every year that Wenger manages to keep the team rolling. Surely things should change now the stadium is not such a big stain on our finances.

Also ACN hasn't helped, losing Gervinho (though not Chamakh) was a surprisingly heavy blow and gave us less threat out wide.

Don't know why everyone discredits Gerviniho. He probably wont score anytime soon, but his runs completely wreck a defence and give RVP the room he needs. You cannot say he is not determined, its not that often you see Walcott selfishly dragging defenders out of position.

That's exactly what I mean - I think FPL players didn't rate him at 9.0 because he didn't score very much at all, but in real life his movement did plenty off the ball, he didn't even need to touch it. He was a far more tricky player than Walcott, who is an orthodox winger who basically runs as fast as he can towards the byline and smacks the ball in. Far more positional sense than Theo.

Miquel scares me to be honest, I remember when he came on against Man City. Cross came in, he was all alone at the back stick with no player even 10 yards from him, and he volleyed it behind his goalline for a free corner. I know all of the youth team players could come good eventually but they shouldn't be thrown in like that, it's just not fair on them.

You'd be thinking that with the bigger stadium and bigger gate receipts we should be investing more... plus we have the cash from the Highbury redevelopment.... but no, if anything we seem to be spending less than we were in the 90s.

They spent £50m on 3 players last summer. £40m on one isn't beyond the realms of possibility. Especially after cutting wage bill of Obertan, Diouf, Gibson, Fletcher, Berbatov (probably) and a few others.

can't see modric leaving for anything under 50. the game v watford is a sign of what a tottenham without modric would be like. their increasingly inevitable champions league place approaching should make things much harder to prise him away too

A Yaya Toure can link play, break up play, spread to the wingers, score goals etc. I think he and Carrick would compliment each other well. Both can create, both can defend, Carrick's static, he's dynamic etc.

Yup, the way i see it Cleverley can't be relied upon as the passer/creative of the midfield 2 as he's too injury prone. I think they'll try and mold Pogba into a Yaya box to box all rounder type, but he strikes me as being a bit lazy for that. Hellova shot on him though.

Interesting the way the FA Cup draw has panned out, 7 of the 8 ties pit Premier League sides against lower opposition. Aummsing (and I realise it's a fairly hefty assumption) those 7 PL sides do all get through, then GW 29 could consist merely of:

    Fulham v Swansea
    Wigan v WBA
    Wolves v Man Utd

plus Blackburn v Sunderland (if Sunderland lose to Boro or Arsenal)

Could be an interesting gameweek if so...

Maybe we should take some hints from Senegal - Ba came off at half time to be replaced by Cisse. A hint perhaps that they don't believe the two work well together, ie. they are both goal poachers and there's only space in the team for one of them?

In which case Newcastle might think the same?

In which case maybe Cisse is being groomed as Ba's long-term replacement? (Ba had some release clause in his contract too)

Of course this could be all wrong, Senegal have been crap and the management could just be incompetent.
