As entry opens for the Members-only Paddy Power Cup VI, we’ve almost reached the final stage of it’s predecessor. Gameweek 22 saw four fantasy managers face off in the Semi-Finals of the Paddy Power Cup V. In case you missed the summary in this week’s ScoutCast, here is how the two ties panned out…

sleepingmaster 48 – 41 ChickenDevil

sleepingmaster advances to the Grand Final after a seven-point win over ChickenDevil. A late fight-back courtesy of Antonio Valencia’s 13-point haul wasn’t enough to close the gap after Stephane Sessegnon and, to a lesser degree, Ciaran Clark’s performances the day before.

Sitting 59,659th in the world, sleepingmaster advances as the underdog, but is safe in the knowledge that he’s already pocketed prizes worth over £100. ChickenDevil will have to settle for a Gameweek 23 3rd-place play-off to bag a prize.

Raasclart 26 – 37 Funkyav

Eleven points was the margin of victory for Funkyav over Raasclart, who has John Ruddy’s unlikely clean sheet against Chelsea to thank. With Funkyav backing a heavy Chelsea win, seeing as his team boasted the likes of Juan Mata and captain Daniel Sturridge, fortune was certainly on his side.

Congratulations to sleepingmaster and Funkyav for reaching the Grand Final! A preview article will follow…

Germany's very reputable magazine Kicker will lead tomorrow with the headline:

"Barrios wants to go to Fulham - transfer fee still a matter of debate"

The less reliable tabloid "Bild" has also just said that Lucas Barrios missed training today to seal the final details on his contract with an (unnamed) English club. There have been strong rumours throughout January that the striker whose goals took Borussia Dortmund to the Bundesliga title last season would leave the club over this transfer window. He's fallen behind Lewandowski in coach Klopp's favours and is getting very limited starting time up front. Dortmund have said that they are willing to let one striker go, but then stopped Zidan's expected departure to Mainz.

The Premier League was Barrios' preferred destination, but Fulham weren't favourites to capture him (Arsenal, Man City and Sunderland have also been named). They may not have the money to match Dortmund's asking price and his recent knee injury could yet a problem though. More details tomorrow morning, I guess.

Apparently he's on about 100k a week at the moment though.

He's been linked with Pool and QPR, but I don't think he'll actually end up moving..

I know my team looks pretty dire what with my bench and recent injuries but I don’t want to wildcard until next week. Although I am pretty nervous going into this gameweek without Dempsey, Valencia or Sess, I’m pretty certain Bale will play so my only problems are Rooney and Jones. Is it worth doing Rooney to Adebayor and Jones to Kompany or something similar for 4pts? Of course I’ll most likely wait until the team sheets are out on Tuesday to make my decision on Rooney. Any advice appreciated!

    Vorm (Al-Habsi)
    Jones / Evans J / Simpson (Shawcross / Barnett)
McClean / Bale / VDV / Silva (Surman)
    Rooney / Sturridge / RVP

I'd def wait till Tuesday. How much do you have in bank? maybe worth Evra or Verm if it's just for 1 week. As for Rooney, like I said, if you are on wc probs not worth a 4 point hit as you have to make it back in 1 go.

Unfortunately I only have 0.2 in the bank so I can't stretch to Evra or Verm without a hit. I'd get 6.0 for Jones. I guess he is my priority to replace given the rest of my defence.

ok so you have 6.2 if you leave Rooney in. Maybe a 1 week punt on a Spurs defender, or maybe Skrtel?

Huth (Man Utd away, CS odds a massive 17/2)...in the hope they only concede 1 or at most 3 goals...and hope he pops up with a goal himself.

    OR

Santon (Blackburn away, CS odds a respectable 13/5)...in the hope they only concede 1 or at most 3 goals.....and hope he pops up with an assist.

The two City defenders in 1 rules that option out.

Option 2 would be fine if it wasn't for Welbeck.

That leaves option 3 for me as it has the optimal front 3 right now. Change Linde, Clark and Tiawo for Vorm, Evans and Shotton for an even better team.

could option 1 be considered if i kept bae at 5.5 instead of richards
i had clark and taiwo because they rotate well, shotton has not been playing recently much- i can keep vorm at 4.8 if i want but krul rotates better

re BAE: the problem here is that TOT enter some harder fixtures and they are not a realiable source of cs.

Even with the worry over Shotton's starts, he is still worth having as you are backed up by four definite starters, worse case scenario.

The best back 5 right now, imo are: Bad K, Shotton, Kelly, Evans and Simpson.

I think the opposite Mull. It takes two Richards assists to equal every Kompany goal.
Richards has had 7 successful crosses this season from 22 attempts ( all be it 5 assists)
Kompany has a much greater goal threat plus he will earn more BPs from defensive stats in say, a 1-0 win for city (of which there will be many)

Based on what? He hasn't yet... He may be ahead of Kompany on a point per minute played basis, but you gotta be on the field to score the points. So you would have to have good reason to think that either Kompany is going to miss a lot more time going forward, or that Richards is going to play a lot more going forward.

Kompany may get up for corners a lot but I think Richards plays OOP against the weaker sides in the league and is always in and around the box. I think he has a few very big scores in him especially with the home fixtures.

It's a tough call, I'll pick Richards as I know my rival is putting in Komps so I'll go for Richards to cover off his defensive points from City and hope that Richards continues to deliver in the opposition box, just like I know he's got Sess, so I will have McLean, playing the differentials can be that simple.

Whereas Kompany averages 4.68 per 90 mins

Is it worth me switching Richards for Kompany since I can sell Richards for 6.1 and therefore have just enough to keep Kompany? Is Kompany a sideways move, or am I missing something?

If Richards starts every game from now to end of season he will score mor epoints the Kompany cos he'll get assists and then a few BP's.
Problem is he's likely to get another niggling injury or be dropped/rotated at Mancini's whim.
For this reason I'd get Kompany in cos you dont have that to worry about.

As for your stat of points per 90 mins I dont know where you got if from and its totally meaningless.
Only thing that matters is points per game and Kompany is ahead here 4.6 to 4.2 cos he doesnt get subbed off and he doesnt start games on the bench and come on for 24 mins here and there.

This basically means 15 extra points over 38 games for two players that started the season at 6.0 which makes Kompany better value
