After Eden Hazard failed to deliver in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Huddersfield, eight of the top ten captains in Fantasy Premier League are set to feature over this evening’s seven matches.

All eyes are on Harry Kane as Spurs welcome Brighton to Wembley Stadium – after a weekend home brace against Stoke, he’s the top armband pick for Gameweek 17, with 25.2% of managers handing him the captaincy – his biggest majority of the season so far.

Mohamed Salah is second only to Kane, with 17.8% backing after serving up seven sets of double-digits. Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino are also back on the Liverpool team-sheet, though, after featuring as subs against Everton.

The latter was second only to Kane for transfers in ahead of Tuesday’s deadline – over 197,000 acquired Firmino in the rush to replaced the stricken Alvaro Morata.

Romelu Lukaku, Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez will be hoping that history repeats itself this evening.

Lukaku is toiling for form right now, with a single goal in nine Gameweeks, but scored four at home to tonight’s visitors Bournemouth while at Everton last season.

Aguero, meanwhile, netted twice in Man City’s win at Swansea in 2016/17 – he returns to Pep Guardiola’s XI as Gabriel Jesus takes up bench-warming duties.

Sanchez heads to West Ham, where he ran riot on his way to three goals and an assist in the previous campaign.

Elsewhere, Charlie Austin and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were both subject to significant transfers in ahead of Gameweek 17, with 156,00+ and 172,000+ new owners respectively.

Both have the fixtures to strengthen their claims as budget third strikers.

Austin – with four goals in three starts – hosts a Leicester defence with one away shutout to their name.

Ranked top for points per million, Calvert-Lewin has a goal and three assists in the last four Gameweeks and visits a Newcastle defence that’s conceded an average of three goals per game over their previous five league fixtures.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hate to say 'i told you so' but i have been telling people all season just to keep Silva and not bother with Sane or Sterling. Best and most nailed player, patience is key.

Seems so obvious now. Jumped on Sané after his 30+ pts in 3 games. Went cold. Moved to Coutinho. 4pts in 2 games, meanwhile Silva has had 35odd pts in the last 3.

Gonna keep Coutinho for a while though and wait for his pts and not chase Silva's

Why so sure Coutinho will come good? Liverpool seems to have lost some of what they had recently, whereas Man City will just keep on. Next gameweek (after Bournemouth), Coutinho to Silva or Sterling seems the obvious move to me, although I’d rather have Silva against Tottenham, because Liverpool will probably struggle.

            1. Pep says

When did Coutinho go bad? He was rested after scoring 4 goals and 3 assists in 2 games.

Got rested, came on and almost scored a free. Blanked last night, had 2 chances. Both on target.

Well, he hasn’t done much point wise the two last gameweeks—the two I’ve owned him for, by the way. Since Liverpool have had two draws against weaker teams, while City keeps on winning, I’ve assumed that tells us that Silva is the better pick compared to Coutinho, especially with the price difference taken into account.

I was deciding between Silva and Coutinho as Sane replacement as well and decided on Coutinho.

It hurts but I think Coutinho has the fixtures to reward us. 😉

Now I have a midfield of Hazard Salah Coutinho and Silva so hoping the rewards come soon.

Masuaka is a great option, cheap as chips for where he is currently playing (just hope he stays there). Two great results to be fair to Moyes & WHU!
Silva is world class and I wish he was my set and forget option rather than bloody Sane!

I'd be a little weary of Morata.

If the reports of a back issue are true we've seen with many players before him that back issues can be managed enough to get on the park but will always prove risky and restrictive during a match.

        Just something to consider.

Watching (C)outinho yesterday was painful. Played annoyingly deep, but Pool were just dreadful all around. So wasteful.

See above, captaining Salah. He could have scored yet another against WBA, was just incredibly wasteful/sluggish on crosses.

        2. Pep says
          • 10 Years

Ya was a bit of a punt but I really didn't fancy Kane against Brighton, just had a feeling it would be a repeat performance of the games he's blanked in.

Salah was a slight rotation risk and Cout had been rested, much like Hazard and Kane had had a weeks rest in the 2 gw's prior and then hauled.

Doubt many had a good captain score though. Time to keep going.

I think as long as you can get through the Christmas period without plummeting the ranks, you're doing well. So many up and down gameweeks with unpredictable line Ups and injuries.

          Nearly there....

I agree, to a large extent. I think the key is also getting "set and forget" players this period, like a United defender or a City mid that will drip steady decent scores and keep you afloat.

We all did awful to average to make everyone feel better.

Can the scoutcast comment on the potential of Rooney as a Morata replacement (in my case, to raise funds to go Pope>DDG when Burnley's fixtures turn)?

Might give it a miss for the first time this season! I had a shocker but want to save my FT, guaranteed if I watch the Scoutcast I will do something drastic with my team! 😉
Ward, Morata & Rich = injury concerns
Niasse, Alli, Sane, Daniels = donuts

Is a Man Utd defensive asset essential?

After a good night on Tuesday that Man Utd clean sheet last night killed me in both my mini leagues.

Too many have the double-up of De Gea and Jones or Valencia

Yeah I think so. Jones seems back to his best, great value. Will rack up bonus, as United are struggling for goals.

People are worried he won't play all the games over this period though, but I reckon he's relatively secure.

Jones was immense against BOU. So was DDG as usual.

Jones is my pick. Will play every game when fit and is hands down their best CB.

Baily likely to be out long term now which only nails Jones even more.

I think I might go for the double up of DDG and smalling, getting killed in my mini leagues.

Any idea which pressers are today?

I have Morata, Richarlison, Ward doubts with exact money for Ward to Jones who is frustratingly rising.

Don’t mind the odd horror week as long as my team is in good stead. Sadly, it’s now decimated by injury. Not good.

I wasn't even going to check after seeing the scores and line-up from last night. When I eventually did I wasn't surprised to find an almost 5m GW rank and a 500k drop in OR! 🙁
Hopefully the weekend will be huge for us, law of averages and all, GL!

    Current Team:

    Pope
    Azlipicuetta ⦁ Otamendi ⦁ Kenny
    Hazard ⦁ Salah ⦁ Sterling ⦁ Lingard ⦁ Son
    Kane ⦁ Firmino

    Subs: Niasse, Mariappa, Zeegelar (Suspended)

Trying to climb up mini league, addition of Son & Kenny is working so far.
My heart is telling me to get rid of Hazard.

    Should I...

    1. Hazard, Lingard, Zeegelar OUT for MAHREZ, ANTONIO, JONES (-8)
    2. Hazard, Lingard, Zeegelar OUT for MAHREZ, SILVA, OGBONNA (-8)
    3. Hazard, Zeegelar OUT for MAHREZ, ALONSO / CHRISTIENSEN / JONES / CRESSWELL (-4)
    4. Do Nothing. Save FT.

    Cheers!

Can someone convince me my annoyed transfers aguero + Alli to hazard and Rooney -4 weren’t too knee jerk?

(Finished 727th last year and can’t break 400k this season...)

Rooney does look up really up for it under big Sam.
Finished top 5k last year and currently at 1.6m and have bloddy DELI ALLI for ages now killing me!
I also have Sane, will save FT and sort out next week on a mini wc hopefully!
