The community is awash with managers keen to banish a disappointing Gameweek 17 and look ahead to the next set of fixtures.

Still despondent from upsetting midweek events – including another Harry Kane blank – our Hot Topic posters appear to be turning to West Ham assets, among others, to lift their spirits.

Elsewhere, Chelsea are backed to build on their midweek victory in our latest community article, while we drop in on our statisticians recent goal threat revelations.

Our round-up is completed with a look at those riding high at the top of our community competitions.

The Community Articles

Chelsea’s easy passage past Huddersfield Town in midweek has ensured that ‘the crowd’, being tracked by Hutch_James, have full of confidence in Antonio Conte’s men when Newcastle United drop by Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Meanwhile, earlier this week we posted an article asking for your feedback on the Sky Sports Fantasy game, with Luke Lockwood from the game’s development team collating your thoughts ahead of next season. Be sure to contribute if you’ve been playing this season and have some thoughts on how the game can be improved.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Interest in West Ham assets stepped up this week, ahead of a kind run of fixtures that has David Moyes’ troops travel to Stoke and Bournemouth and host Newcastle.

Pundit of Punts is particularly interested in their defensive assets in his Hot Topic on their budget options.

Hammers players also get a mention in our discussion on the best differentials ahead of Gameweek 18.

To help prepare for the next set of fixtures G-Whizz has shared fellow Hammers’ fan Doosra’s latest clean sheet and goal scoring calculations.

Spurs are among the teams to fare badly in his number crunching. They visit Manchester City on the back of a less than convincing 2-0 win over Brighton at Wembley Stadium in Gameweek 17.

Among the most disappointing aspects of Spurs display was another failed Fantasy performance from Harry Kane, who again drew a blank when faced with ‘easy’ opposition at Wembley. Our ”rough with the smooth” round-up of your Gameweeks was full of disdain for the striker’s unpredictable performances.

As well as sporadic scoring, Applebonkers also raises concerns about Kane’s lack of assists this season. So far he has only set up one goal, while other premium strikers – Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata, Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku and Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus – have all earned four assists.

With a trip to a Burnley side that has only conceded three goals at Turf Moor, Kane’s captaincy potential in Gameweek 19 appears reduced.

And given that Liverpool travel to Arsenal and Chelsea visit a newly resilient Everton, Pundit of Punts believes that a major armband dilemma awaits..

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members Tables

A raft of misfiring heavy-hitters have joined my latest goals imminent table update, and could be set for a strong Gameweek 18 based on their recent underlying statistics.

Meanwhile, FPL Virgin has been scouting cheap defenders with goal threat and Doosra’s deadly assassins table details the latest sharp-shooters based on his preference of filtering by the last two Gameweeks.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Az continues to lead the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league with a 15-point advantage over second placed Jack Wain and Heroes and Villians remains top of our FFS Members League and is now up to 31st overall.

Damir Tenay continues to set the pace at the summit of the Fantasy Football Scout main league as well as the overall rankings, as does Mathew Morrison in the Top 1K Any Season and Mick Harris in the FFS Old Farts Club, for our community’s “oldest and wisest” participants.

In QPR UTD’s Frequent Summer Posters competition ZoumasBloomers is another to remain at the top, with myself leading the chasing pack in second.

But it’s all change at the summit of Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season mini-league, where Elvar Mar Sigurdsson has regained the lead.

It is also worth mentioning that Red Lightning’s January to May league (757-419) will kick off in Gameweek 22 and is now open for entrants.

Matchweek 11 in the Community Watch tournament produced some nail-biting ties, according to Speedyboyzzzz‘s latest update from the organising committee.

Finally, in TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing, the safety score was 32, which saw 135 players depart and 1346 remain.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Over the next 4 gw's would you rather have:
    (A) De Gea (-4)
    (B) Courtois

    Fixtures are:
De Gea: wba lei BUR SOU
    Courtois: SOU eve BRI STO

I'm planning on bringing in Lloris for the dgw in gw22 so that's why I'm only looking at the next 4 weeks.

    1. mentoz
      • 11 Years

I wouldn't recommend taking a hit for only four gameweeks, though I could see DDG getting four more points over the next four matches. But the chance you take is higher than the possible reward.

Now that Jones is back the cleanies should return. Will get less saves but you can't have everything.

DDG, could easily see 3 clean sheets from both but Courtois is either a 2 or a 6, DDG racks up the saves so picks up save points and bonus

Your plan for Lloris have the dgw is solid. What you do between now and then I am not sure.
But I am losing pope for DeGea from next week and may get Lloris in 22.
Losing Courtois would be harder to do.

Yeah Burnley are playing Spurs and Utd in the next 4 so it seems like a good move for you. Whereas Courtois has 3 home fixtures in the next 4 so it's tough to call.

    Otamendi...

It seems to me that in here, the general consensus is that you are not allowed to bench premium defenders because of their price??

See, that is the difference between an average FPL manager and a decent one.

There are many lower priced defenders overlooked this GW..You have to bench premium defenders at some point, this is the game to do so.

Spurs struggle to score against lesser teams. Some premiums have attacking threat and plenty don't.

Not really. If the form is not that good and against a tough goal scoring opposition away from home, many may be inclined to bench him for that match.

      1. barracuda
        • 8 Years

Spurs are scoring..He already scored twice in the past 3, facing decent Spurs defense.

Depends who else you have, but City have 7 clean sheets, 2 of which are against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Otamendi offeres a chance of a big haul any game week against any opposition and already had 4 double digit hauls.

Why bench s player like that ? With more points than Aguero, Morata, Sane, Richarlison, the same points as Lukaku as the second highest goal scoring forward?

Nothing to do with price, all to do with points and playing in the best team in the league ?

        1. barracuda
          • 8 Years

His streak is due to end, facing Spurs..That's my logic and I agree with everything you are saying. The game will be open, both managers will likely go for it, it's in their blood.

          1. Hotdogs for Tea
            • 10 Years
            8 years, 1 month ago

The only point I am making really is that I do not think people are saying ‘don’t bench a premium defender because of price’, it is more to do with him offering attacking points, just like Alonso.

I would specifically play Alonso or Otamendi against any team, week in week out, but could not say the same for other high priced defenders that don’t score as many goals.

That said I am not convinced that Otamendi goal scoring is much more than luck at the moment, so you may well be right

I think Spurs will score hence I brought in Christensen rather than Otamendi last week.

That said, he is a goal threat but if you don't think he'll score, then bench him. There could be a lot of other clean sheets this week.
