Is now the time to give up on the premium strikers – we’re looking at you Harry – and throw our cash at a “power five” midfield?

It’s a big question that requires a crack team to answer.

Unfortunately, we only have the ScoutCast crew available, though we did manage to pull off a big loan signing to help us out.

Jay Eggersdorf – the current “live” Hall of Fame number one joins Jonty, Andy and Az as we take on the big topic of the day.

In the middle of another stunning season – Jay reveals his strategy behind his recent move to shed Kane on the back of another impressive points tally.

Then on 44 minutes, Jay’s phone is almost drained of life. Tickled by the on-camera events that follow, Jonty and Az struggle to hold it together to discuss the recruitment of Paul Pogba and the merits of West Ham investment before we look ahead to Gameweek 19.

It’s an intense 90-minutes, with the frivolity of this “festive” ScoutCast limited to silly jumpers and hats. Though we each get the opportunity to reveal our Christmas wish.

Just one wafer-thin hat-trick please Harry.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I quite like Zeegelaar though. I don't think it's worth having him all this time if you're going to sell him the game before his ban gets removed, so I'd keep him. Better fixtures than Mee and frees up more money

Ogbonna could be a bit more nailed, may be better for bonus. Masuaka plays higher up the pitch, may get the odd assist.

This site is pretty divided on the two- it's a toss up!

Quick straw poll before price changes:

    A. Ward to Ogbonna (save an FT) or
    B. Morata + Ward to Austin + Christensen (enough in the bank for Carroll to Pogba next GW)

    Fabianski - Elliot
    Ota - Kabasele - Dunk - Simpson - Ward*

    Kane - Morata* - DCL

Fantasy football is clearly a game of opinions and there's still the camp that is holding Kane until the double GW22.

I've looked at it and have trouble understanding why you would keep Kane for the next 3 gameweeks. Can anyone keeping Kane and maybe even captaining him this week, let me know as to why?

    Kane: bur, SOT, blank
    Aguero: BOU, new, cpl
    Lukaku: lei, BUR, SOT

Also, if you're thinking of benching Kane in GW21, have you seen how close GW21 is to 22? There is just one full day in-between, so it's incredibly likely you'll need 2 or 3 bench players to step in.

    1. I Member
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 1 month ago

I'm keeping but not captaining this week. I may very well captain him in GW20 and just don't want to deal with transferring him out and back in after that. I completely understand why people sold him but in my opinion the window to get him out has closed.

Depends on team too, I've got two injuries and a suspension, hard to justify ousting a fit player who'll play this week instead of one of them, if had two frees id take a -4 but as stands no value in taking out this week for me

      1. I think there is significant value in Kane at home to SOU in GW21 as he is guaranteed to play 90 while other captain options may be rested/rotated (Salah, Hazard, etc.).

      2. Transfers are valuable so without using a free hit or wildcard, transferring him out and then back in for GW22 in this hectic Xmas period is tough.

      3. I own Lukaku and Kane (and Firmino), so can't really argue with the fact that Aguero MAY outscore Kane in the next three but he also will likely miss an entire game as there is no chance he gets 3 starts in a week with his injury record. He is also battling a bad calf. What if he plays only 180 minutes over 3 matches? Kane will also play 180 guaranteed - Burnley and Stoke.

      4. I think Burnley sooner or later will give up a few goals - the "hope Pope saves all these shots" strategy will run into some bad luck. They are organized, but will be missing a starting CB and LB (Tarkwoski and Ward confirmed out), so I don't think it's the most difficult fixture in the world.

      5. Kane, in a "bad" or "average" season, still has 12 goals in 17 games, and just a few gameweeks ago scored 2 against Stoke in a 5-1 win. He's on penalties, and is as good a bet as anyone outside of City players of scoring against anyone at any time. He's been the best striker in the country for the last two years. It's not crazy to hold him.

        Correction - gw20 vs SOU not gw21.

Addition - I am captaining him this week at BUR but only because Morata is suspended, as I had planned to captain Hazard against Everton who I have been watching and don't believe have the defensive resolve to continue keeping teams from scoring. Kane is my (c) at Burnley.

Yep. Also, he's hit the post six times and Spurs are yet to get a penalty. And he still has 12 goals in a "bad season" so far.

He's certainly worth holding for GW20. Not sure I'll risk holding for GW21 - I'll have to weigh the rotation risks based on the GW20 teamsheets and minutes.

Thank you for the detailed response!

I think it comes down to if you think Spurs are playing well, and if they're not, is that adversely affected Kane as his goals return is clearly worse than the previous two seasons.

I think some FPL managers will have Kane in their team regardless because he's nailed on, he takes pens, and he's probably the best striker in the league. I wonder at what price he would need to be for those managers to say he's not worth the investment based on the returns.

If Kane scores against Burnley in a 0 - 1 type of game, then I think owners will be happy and so will the sellers. I think this result isn't unreasonable and is perhaps the most probable given Burnley's home form.

I'm probably less risk averse, and can see 3 or 4 goals in the Man City v Bournemouth game. I'm going to try and capitalise on those points by bringing in another Man City attacker (without a points hit) and give him the armband. Will I have been unlucky if Aguero doesn't start or only scores 1? Maybe, but I think the potential upside is far greater.

The other factor is Kane being on the bench in GW21 when you may well need all 3 outfield players.

"...he's not worth the investment based on the returns..."

Which returns? The ones he got from GW4-9? Or the ones he got from GW11-15? Or the only ones that in fact count, the point's he'll score over the upcoming weeks?

Aguero once blanked 7 straight games (I think it was) and then scored 4 in the next one. You know as well as I do that Kane is capable of something similar to that.

I am perfectly willing to replace Kane if I see a sensible alternative that doesn't cost multiple hits to re-structure my squad. At the moment there isn't a single premium striker that I like and Kane is the best of a bad bunch. He also happens to already be in my team and costs me nothing to leave there. 😕

I'm not sure why you're reacting so strongly on this! I'm looking at three things:

            1. Kane's fixtures over the next 3.
            2. Alternative premium strikers' fixtures over the next 3.
            3. My starting 11 and bench in GW21.

With Aguero, yes, I'm heavily influenced by the Bournemouth game this weekend. A game in which I will be captaining him. I don't feel like I have a standout captain this week (although perhaps, it should should be Sterling).

If Kane didn't blank in GW21, perhaps I'd keep him and be thankful for any returns, but he does blank and he's up against two sides that can set themselves up well defensively.

I'm very relaxed over it all. I would have got rid of Kane this week but for Morata! The reason that I'm relaxed is that rightly or wrongly I'm going to play the FH chip in 22. As for Kane, if he get's booked I'll obviously sell him after the weekend. If not I might wait until after the Soton game. Decided on playing the FH chip in 22 has given me much relief as I don't need to worry about Kane or stocking up on Spurs/WHU assets that I don't particularly want!

Yes, I can see how the Morata situation and other fires to put out, means Kane is a long way down the priority list!

One thing to think about with using the Free Hit chip in GW22 is that you'll not be able to use any other chip, such as triple captain. Swansea and West Ham after a restful Christmas for Spurs (and West Ham) could be explosive TC material.

Oh and definitely stay relaxed about it... far more important things to be concerned about 🙂

I considered that and if Kane explodes in his next two, not having the TC chip available will be a concern of course. But it's a game and all of us approaching it differently makes it fun. Hope you have a relaxing Christmas mate! 🙂

Sorry, do hits not cost any points in FPL any more?

I am keeping Kane because his fixtures are fine. I considered replacing him with Lukaku last week but the form was too patchy. I also considered Aguero but can you even guarantee me he'll start the next 2 games?

Kane has bur SOT. They will do for me, I have better things to do with my transfers unless there is a clear improvement to be made and there isn't, not without a RIDICULOUS amount of hits (such as a -12). What I'll do in GW21 will depend on how things look in GW21 but Kane isn't losing a game anyway, he gets it back in GW22. It's just a question of how to maximise the BGW and the DGW really.

I think FFS has gone bonkers frankly. By which I mean the general trend of comments rather than the site itself.

        Hey Ruth 🙂

No hit required, simply Kane > Aguero(c) and keep for 3 weeks, then switch back. Admittedly it is a luxury transfer, but I can't escape the massive upside of the Bournemouth game.

I probably wouldn't consider it if Bournemouth hadn't played midweek and lost in the way they did. I just see them getting turned over massively and only have Sterling, currently.

I agree that selling Kane + a mid > a cheap striker + KdB and then doing the hokeycokey back again, seems an awful waste of transfers and hits, but I'm struggling to see a downside to Kane > Aguero/Lukaku if the rest of your squad is fine.

          OK.

Kane ➡ Aguero is the one that most tempts me too. But do you really think you can rely on Aguero starting the next 3 GWs? Because I don't. I have looked at the fixtures. Pep MIGHT do a wiggle where he only starts Jesus in GW22 but you'd have to say it's more likely that he gets a start in GW20 or 21. And then where is the gain?

That's the first aspect. The second is that there is a DGW to prepare for. I don't know about anyone else but preparing for that seems a priority to me and I want to arrive in GW22 with 2 FTs if at all possible. I brought Adrian in 2 weeks ago and Arnie last week. That's where my mind is focused.

There seems to be an idea that DGW22 is a damp squib because the games are Tuesday/Thursday. I completely disagree. 15 of 20 PL teams have that schedule (games 2 days apart) over GW21/22. Spurs and West Ham have the advantage of a full week of rest beforehand. Some teams (Newcastle and Palace for example) only have 2 days rest and play 3 times in 5 days. 😕 Had the West Ham/Spurs game not been postponed they'd have played Sunday/Tuesday instead of Tuesday/Thursday. So with the extra rest beforehand their situation has actually improved.

Sometimes I play DGWs defensively when I don't like them. This one I like. 🙂

You make a good point about having two FT's going into GW22. I think that'll prove almost essential as preloading with double gameweekers could backfire massively in GW21 due to rotation.

I wish I could say Aguero will start the next 3 but I can't. But aside from Salah and Kane there is no-one I fear more with fodder fixtures. For me, Kane has two games which I wouldn't want to captain him and then a blank. That's enough for me to find an alternative source of captaincy and points (Aguero this week, potentially Hazard next).

Because people appear to think they don't. Or to be measuring potential gains without measuring potential losses. The points lost are certain, right? But the points regained are uncertain.

I know what they cost and measure those hits I take pretty carefully. I'm not saying don't take hits. I'm saying think carefully and think twice. That's all.

Daniels and Kiko have to go and it is unlikely I would've had 2 defenders to play. Kane is the most expensive guy I've got and could do this.

      Daniels + Kiko + Kane -> Otamendi + Alonso + Firmino + 0.9 ITB

Getting rid of Kane for no reason seems silly, but I'm very happy with these moves now they're done.

I don't see his next two fixtures as anything other than great given that state of the Burnley defence (injuries not form).

I'll swap him for someone in 21 and put him back in 22 without having to rip up whole team. He will start both next fixtures.

Will Aguero? Will anyone bar Lukaku? Who is not in form and refuse to believe will outscore him next 2.

i think the window to lose Kane has passed. People are being too swayed by the city fixture, a kun punt is perfectly fine if for free but can't be many of us who could do that and get him back in 22 for free and also get other dgwers plus fight whatever fires are started this and next week.
Also I think lots are being empowered by Jay Egersdorf -12 and whilst he clearly knows his FPL I do disagree with him on one thing, he says Kane might not play saints or one of the dgw games. There is no evidence of Kane ever being rested in the prem league, none.
Find it bizarre that Kanexit has snowballed following a blank in his hardest fixture of the season, most advised against it before then

Taking out Kane is always a risk, however a somewhat calculated one, the strikers in general are underperforming in FPL sense

form and points advantage lie with the mids, and can potentially get 2 that individually will match or outscore Kane

There is upside in points and team value without, so is a risk I am taking, but can get back in one tfr for DGW

But if Kane avoids his booking, he surely plays in GW20 against Southampton.

How many of the power five midfielders we will be similarly assured about starting in GW20?

We're talking a potential 1pt captain from the bench vs Kane at home to Southampton.

I have gone for the Kane removal and feeling somewhat terrified. On a wildcard and my team is:
      De gea/Elliot
      Alonso/otamendi/Jones/ogbonna/long
      Hazard/KdB/Salah/Sterling/pogba
      Austin/Calvert-Lewin/diouf

Will play a 4-5-1. Huge departure for me as I am traditionally quite conservative and place faith in the premium strikers.

I got no issue with you selling but you seem to think it's an obviously strong move that everyone should be doing. Switching out Kane for Aguero this gw is nothing more than a hopeful punt. It's one big hitter in Luke warm form for another. I have no concerns with Kane atm. I like the Burnley fixture for him. I'm satisfied that poch has pulled spurs out of the gw12 to 15 rut. Lots of reasons for this but i I won't tangent into spurs tactics.
You've listed the next 3 fixtures but 21 is meaningless in this context. He can be shipped for the blank when it arrives if that floats your boat.
So what we are looking at is
      Kane bur SOU
      Kun BOU new
      Lukaku lei BUR

all are very strong picks and there's not much separating them in my eyes.
Aguero captain could be massive this gw. Most explosive option but maybe not as reliable as sterling or kdb.

You've conceded that Kane can be sold by GW21 and brought back in for the double. So that negates ever other post above that says selling Kane is a waste of free transfers. I would say saving those FT's and using them elsewhere as Ruth_NZ alluded to, is THE strongest argument for keeping Kane during this 3 gameweek period.

I will be curious to see if your faith in Kane means you bench him in GW21 or do the hokeycokey with 2 x FTs. By selling Kane ahead of the Burnley game, there are three gameweeks to replenish 2 x FT's.

Also, don't sit on the fence here. You can't dismiss my approach as a hopeful punt then caveat it with "Aguero captain could be massive this gw"!

Trying to convince myself of not taking hits, fine fixture for RLC, Choupo and Abraham if they play! Morata out seems not right since excellent fixtures to come. So GTG or not?

Wait until the pressers. Rumours on Twitter are that he is back in training.

The benefit of having a terrible year is I could take more hits to try and have a little fun in a season of sorrow! Haha

    Courtois
    Alonso, Kabasele, Ogbonna
    Hazard, KDB, Salah, Coutinho, Sterling
    Firmino, Gray

    JP, DCL, Kenny, Dunk

Here’s hoping the “power five” fad works some magic over the holidays!!

    Good luck all

    Firmino + Hazard > Aguero(C) + Arnautovic (-4)??

    Kane(C) otherwise.

Choosing between the two as well, going Christensen I believe. Don't know how many starts Jones will get with this congested schedule

Yeah, think Christensen will get more minutes...don't know if Jones can handle the amount of games.
