Bolton’s rise to the Champions League places was once again orchestrated by the performance of a strike pairing who are becoming the most feared double act in the Premier League. I can barely believe those words as they are typed.

Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies justified the oxygen we’ve been feeding them on these pages but sharing four goals in the 5-1 dismantling of Newcastle at the Reebok today. Throw in one assist each for the pair and you’re left with points totals that see them both take up places amongst the top four Forwards in the Fantasy Premier League game. Elmander, incredibly, is now at the top of those rankings and if Bonus Points fall kindly, he could rank as the top scoring player in the entire game. Astonishing.

Currently owned by just under 14% of FPL Managers, the Swede enjoyed a price rise this week. Get used to it – Elmander’s value will surely soar with Bolton facing the porous Blackpool defence in a week’s time. At just 6.1 in the FPL, the lure will surely prove too much and already there’s talk of the armband for Gameweek 15. Rewind 12 months and such an accolade for Elmander was simply unthinkable – he was lucky to experience the warmth of a crowded bench, let alone that of the Reebok faithful.

Poor Kevin Davies is having the season of his life but even his substantial contribution looks likely to be overshadowed; Elmander’s seemingly relentless rise to prominence is looking just too irresistible. Owen Coyle’s prize asset will be a hot property in January – even hotter in the Summer. Right now it’s Fantasy Managers who will be shopping at the Reebok and they’re likely to come in droves.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Why? Do you like Grant? Or do you think I'm being deadly serious about Chelsea winning the CL at least twice, and Mourinho still being here, because trust me I'm not.

However, Grant must certainly did play a part in Mourinho's sacking, and that is something I will never ever forgive him for. And he's a shit manager, with an evener shitter managerial record, yet the media love* him for some inexplicable reason.

*love in the sense that they don't tear him to shreds like they would any other foreign manager with the same record as him.

Don't think anyone can judge on whether he's good enough or not when he's only started four games, two in which were away at Chelsea and Liverpool. Simon Cox, a striker came on to play in midfield twenty minutes before he came on himself today!

So are you now saying that Di Matteo doesnt know what he is doing?

He sees him in training every day of the week.
Its a massive jump from the championship to the premier league.

How good do you actually think he is?Cos at the moment he cant get into one of the worst form teams in the league. Certainly is no where near the 15million you though the was pre season.

That can basically be said to make every opinion from a fan false or useless, and we don't want that do we?

I for example am 100% sure that David Silva is nowhere near good enough for a top side and I don't want to hear that some stupid Italian that has never done anything good at all knows more than me.

Yes, I am saying he's getting it wrong regarding the Dorrans situation. Di Matteo has backed him in the local media for him to get back to his good form we saw last year but how can he get back into form if he isn't playing?!

At the moment it seems that Brunt, Thomas, Morrison, Scharner, Mulumbu, Barnes, Tchoyi, Cox are all above him in the pecking order. Even if he isn't as good as I 'made out' he definitely isn't worse than all of those players.

                    Hand on heart you did.
Around the time West Ham made a bid, I said he was worth about 5mil and you mentioned 15mil and that WBA still shouldnt sell.

I then wrote about him having no CL, international, and limited Premierleague experience.

Not to be a pain in the ass but you honestly did.

But what im saying is he is playing everyday in training and you have to back the manager with the record he has to make the right the decison.

He could be another Chopra type player. Where he is too good for the championship but not good enough for the premier league. Time will tell.

You could be right.. But judge him after he starts a decent amount of games in a row. Not when he is getting 10 mins off the bench every game.

Yes, Di Matteo sees him everyday in training but we've also just got 1 point from Wigan, West Ham, Blackpool and Wigan so it doesn't mean he's getting it right.

We do need to make a number of changes for next game, Scharner and Thomas need to be dropped!

"get back to his good form we saw last year"

Good Championship form means nothing in the Prem. I've not seen enough of the guy to know how good he is in all honesty, but I think Di Matteo knows a tad more than you seeing as he watches him training every day.

Chopra is a fine example. Usually scores goals for fun in the Championship, but when the step up came he looked completely out of his depth.

Well those are Di Matteo's words not mine anyway. He looked decent when he came on today and he changed the game for us when he came on at half time against Blues, we were losing 1-0 and it finished 3-1 to us.

I'm not saying he's going to be amazing, but we've lost the spark we had earlier in the season, surely Di Matteo realises that? Got nothing to lose playing him, if he's rubbish, I'll admit he can't cut it at this level and he can sit on the bench.

    My Team:
    Foster - Robinson
    Boswinga - Konchesky - Coleman - Bardsley - Williamson
    VDV - Fabs - Nani - Brunt - YayaT
    Drogba - Tevez - Carroll

Advice please: should I bring in Kolarov or Rafael? And who should go: Boswinga or Williamson.

(if its Boswinga I can do in one tfr, if Williamson I need to downgrade Yaya to someone cheaper and take 4 pt hit)

    Thanks!

Vidic. That was Evra's first goal in 4 years. He said himself he should score more from the positions he gets into but for the price I'd rather have Vidic.

      Vidic of course

there both pretty much guaranteed to play

however vidic is better with the BP and goes up for corners and crosses...scores

evra has looked poor going up this season and pretty poor at the back

      Vidic.

More likely to get bonus, bigger goal threat as well, 99% guaranteed to start.

Evra's goal today was only his second for us.

one thing this game has taught me over the years, never rely on reputation, form is the key.

The bigger the reputation the higher the price and if they ain't performing you need to ship them out and get the in form player

pretty much, gotta have funds/players to win and compete. i just hate how contracts literally mean nothing in football. balotelli for instance just said he's committed until june after just barely signing on, what a load of crap.

one thing i do like about american sports is that contracts actually have merit and are fulfilled. we would really see the substance of squads and their depth/ability to develop and build a cohesive unit if players couldn't escape when things get rough or when they become too greedy along w/their agents.
