Just as the Harry Kane apologists were beginning to diminish or be drowned out, the Spurs striker confirmed his status as a devastating Fantasy asset with a bolt from the blue.

Kane’s hat-trick delivered an unexpected season-high haul of 17 points at Burnley, a venue that had previously seen just three goals conceded to away sides.

The foundations for Kane’s treble were laid early with a first penalty kick of the season for Spurs.

A controversial incident involving Dele Alli – who was perhaps fortunate to be on the pitch following an early cautioned foul – that crucial early goal opened the game up. That allowed Mauricio Pochettino’s side to belie their recent form and put on an impressive attacking display.

Under those conditions, Kane could emphatically underline his Fantasy credentials. His eight shots, with six arriving in the penalty area, were again a Gameweek high.

The striker was sold by 108,000 ahead of Friday’s deadline, having lost 135,000 owners in Gameweek 18.

He will now next on Southampton at Wembley Stadium in Gameweek 20 with renewed confidence. An assured starter, that fixture now creates another scenario that could punish recent sellers further.

Some 867,000 opted for Kane as their captain this weekend – only 40% of his ownership. That figure will surely increase for the visit of Southampton.

Kane needs just one strike against the Saints to beat Alan Shearer’s record for the most Premier League goals scored in a calendar year. Meanwhile, Southampton will arrive without a clean sheet in their last ten Gameweeks.

The striker’s comments post-match made it obvious that the record will be on his mind come Boxing Day.

“We wanted the second goal to kill the game and when I scored it, I thought ‘right, let’s get the hat-trick’, I was happy to put that one away, I’m really pleased. I can now go into the game on Tuesday and try to get the record, that would be a great achievement.”

Kane now has 15 goals for the season – level with Mohamed Salah – and is up to 114 points in FPL overall’s standings – placing him fourth behind Salah (145), Raheem Sterling (125) and Kevin De Bruyne (116).

It remains to be seen how the market reacts, with Kane facing the missing fixture in Gameweek 21, before a double-header against Swansea City (away) and West Ham United (home) in Gameweek 22.

Should his price rise, it will be another consideration for those contemplating trading the striker out for his blank Gameweek, with extra profit potentially lost along with the transfers involved.

It will also mean those pondering a move back for Kane may have to find more cash to fund the deal ahead of his double.

After all the recent questioning and debate, there can be no question that Kane will be seen as near essential for Gameweek 22, with the Triple Captain chip also being prepared.

Pochettino shuffles the pack

Elsewhere for Spurs, there were four changes to the line-up, as Serge Aurier and Ben Davies ousted Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose in the latest phase of rotation at full-back. We have to presume that this will be reversed on Boxing Day.

Davinson Sanchez returned from his suspension to take his place in the back four, with Eric Dier shifting to midfield. Harry Winks was missing with a minor ankle injury.

Two assists for Alli signalled brief respite from a miserable run of form, yet the controversy of the early penalty, plus his challenge that may well have warranted a dismissal, overshadowed those events.

Alli remains on the periphery of Fantasy thinking, while even a resurgent Christian Eriksen is struggling to compete for midfield selection in our squads.

The Dane blanked on Saturday having returned in each of his last four Gameweeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Just Dann to Masuaku for me. Hazard has good fixtures. Although I would be tempted more by Hazard to Coutinho since you have Morata

      1. Pranav Santhosh
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 1 month ago

I think dann to masuaku is a no brainer but it's hazard to de Bruyne is the one I'm thinking about. I could go sane coutinho or mane explosive but not nailed. De Bruyne doesn't have explosiveness but is nailed on and the best player for the best team in the league. That being said in terms of fpl hazard could be worth keeping good fixtures morata back more shots inside the box compared to de Bruyne. But for me the thing I like about de Bruyne is baps monster nailed cheaper than hazard and most important he plays for man city not chelsea. Coutinho is tempting thought considering how strong Liverpool are in attack

Dann to masuaku is a certain transfer I'm making and might do hazard to de bruyne in case hazard gets rotated but having 2FT for the blank will be very beneficial thanks for the advice

I have got TWO players injured - Smalling & Austin. Backup for Austin is GroB and for Smalling it's Ogbonna.
    .
Are the backups seem to be enough or I should move Smalling to Otamandi?

    De Gea Pereira

    Zeegelaar Gomez Christensen Msuaku Mee

    Hazard Gross Loftus-Cheek Sterling Salah

    Lacazette Kane Calvert-Lewin

£1.7m in the bank. I think I can go two different directions this Christmas:

    A) Lacazette & Gross ---> Firminho & Pogba (0 points cost)

    or

    B) Lacazette --> Morata

The only reason I am leaning towards 'B' is that Chelsea's games seem more spread out over Christmas so hopefully Morata won't get rested as he was just suspended too. I can see Mourinho trying to make a point and changing his entire team (may need to get back up keeper sorted) and I'm never confident Firminho will always start (especially at home). But I like 'A' for its balance long term but would be hard to say goodbye to Gross who I've had since GW1, especially after yesterday.

Any advice or another route i'm not seeing?

If u watched the MU game then u must know ho he played, he will never score, the best what u can get from him is jus assists and hes not nailed on busy Christmas games. Kane and Alli shouldn't have played yesterday because both should've been sent off for their awful tackles on Sterling and de Bruyne a week ago. But now the first one scored a hat-trick and the second got two assists. They should be serving bans, not playing. I'm not bitter, I just think it's unfair and pathetic how some players get away without punishments and no one even talks about it.

      • 9 Years

Not much to talk about aside from how much of an idiot the referee was in that game. Unfortunately he took action and awarded yellow cards for each challenge, meaning they can't be reviewed for retrospective action.
Dele's "tackle" (if it can even be called that) on De Bruyne was especially appalling. I wish Poch would sit him down on the bench for a game in place of Lamela so he could get his s*** together

What are Kane owners planning to do with the blank? After saving this week hokey cokey (Kaku/Morata/Kun/someone else) or benching

Bench probably. Although another one week punt like I did with Aguero this week was enjoyable.

Benching. Too much money invested to trade and then trade back

Benching 12.5 million is not good either. If he goes up to 12.9 and you bought at 12.5 you might lose none or .1 max .2 assuming Kane drops in his blank. Obviously losing the value of transfer but if you have 2 for next and team is in good shape, I think it's viable option to do the hokey cokey.

        Morata vs Stoke
        Aguero vs Palace
        Lukaku vs Soton

Coutinho does seem pivotal to much of what Liverpool do. He's more expensive and he might not last January, but I'd go for him. I read reports on here that he looked a bit knackered after Arsenal though.

Only 1 player has survived all the chopping and changing in my team since GW 1.

    HARRY KANE.

    Never in doubt. 😉

Same here. He's been my biggest captaincy troll though, I've been nailing Hazard hauls.

Think there was one GW early in the season when I transferred Kane out for Aguero (c) that worked and then got him right back and have kept since.

What could be the ideal front after GW22?

Would it be Kane + Morata + cheapo (3-5-2/4-4-2)

    Or Kane + 2 cheapo. (4-5-1/5-4-1)

I believe some of us need to sort this to plan our transfers each week.

Until Coleman is fit and even then it's not a gimme for Coleman to get back in immediately.
