Don't know about that. I think that even before the travelling rumours it was very unlikely he was going to play. Now it's close to 0%.

There's videos of him back at the training ground on Instagram and Sky Sports showed the players arriving at the train station in London with no sign of him.

Anyone else getting... whisper it quietly.... bored of FPL? First time i can remember where I'm genuinely not fussed about the run in. 10 GW's, we know about BGW31, and a couple of DGW's. If you play your Bench Boost & TC right you'll get a nice OR boost, but it's getting very repetitive now to me. Thought I'd love FPL forever 🙁

But having said that I would like to see the chips altered so that we have to play at least one outside of dgwk planning. One chip that has to be used before Jan 1 - as with the first wildcard - for example. That'd really mix it up.

2 alternatives to having any chips (or reduced numbers of chips):
          > If you don't transfer 2 GWs in a row, 3rd GW you get 4 free transfers (maybe 1st half of season only)
          > If a player gets owned by more than 50% (or somewhere upwards of 40%) of participants, that player becomes 'banked' and unselectable thereafter for the rest of the season. Helps stop templating from happening

          1. TopdeBotton
            • 9 Years
            7 years, 9 months ago

These don't seem like they'd have much mass appeal. I really wonder, actually, where you got these ideas.

So instead of having 3FT in the third GW, you get 4? Why? It doesn't seem like a very good idea to not make any transfers for three consecutive GWs in a game like this where prices change literally overnight. What's the bonus transfer for anyway? Starving yourself of transfers needlessly for three GWs?

"Banking" doesn't really seem like the right word here. "Barred" is probably more appropriate, because that's what happens to the people that don't jump on the bandwagon soon enough.

Which makes me think bandwagons would form more quickly because of it.

It would be a really controversial rule however it were implemented, actually.

What if someone like Lukaku is owned by 50% by around GW10? No one else can have him for the rest of the season? Not even people that join the game after he's reached 50%? Imagine finding out about FPL in December and not being able to sign a player.

You'd have to let people sell players like that though, right? Well that just makes things more chaotic, because people will be able to buy that kind of player after all then, but in fits and spurts only, which would really annoy a lot of people.

I don't think this would even serve its purpose, because if anything, when bandwagons emerge, they will just solidify very suddenly as people clamour to get on board before the 50% bar is reached.

So, sorry mate, but these don't seem viable and the second one actually seems downright diabolical.

I don't think I explained myself very well, sorry - these are just ideas in response to the feeling about templated teams and an alternative to WC'ing and FH:

It would be 2 consecutive GWs you wouldn't transfer, in 3rd one you get 4 transfers to make (so you starve for 2 GWs, not 3) - this is an alternative to WC suggestion

What I should have explained by banking is that every participant (including the non-50% and any new participant starting FF) would automatically own the 'banked' player as a player who would always earn points for 100% of participants. Those already owning the player would get the money back from that player and the player would not be available for team selection, as he would remain in all teams for the remainder of the season (no-one could captain that player either).

This would mean everyone benefits from that player equally from 50% ownership thresholds being broken onwards until the end of the season, but would force a replacement player to be selected and different captains, removing or reducing templating.

Alternatively the 'banked' player earns no points for every participant after the 50% ownership threshold, to ensure FF scores are not skewed (applied to every participant).

I'm not actually aware of how many people join FF considerably after the beginning of a season, but if 100% participants are affected by the same rule, then no-one is at an advantage or disadvantage (only those participants who bought the 50% owned player early enough to take advantage of the points)

I don't think it's very easy to hit above 50% player ownership from my short time on FF, but I'd be interested to know how commonplace that level of ownership in a player has been over the past seasons.

I suppose the first change could work in some way, then.

Yea hopefully, but I'm defintiely not feeling as engaged at all with it since the Christmas period finished up, for the first time in 10 seasons of eating & sleeping FPL. Maybe the upcoming GW's will change things but it all seems very formulaic this season! I think the sporadic frequency of the GW's doesn't help either, it would be nice to have a reliable one GW per week schedule to rely on

of the whole thing no, of the chips, yes

I think what's strange is that they were created to make things more interesting and fun, but the reality is that all they're doing is helping players get massive boosts during the 2 or 3 big weeks a season that serious players would have been aware of when it kicked off

I much preferred having to plan for doubles and blanks without chips, it's so boring now. I'm just sitting on then waiting to do the same thing as everyone else on here

I like the idea of chips, but would prefer if they weren't so favoured to being used in a blank or double week.

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 15 Years

I think this captures it quite well - the chips are a big part of the problem in that "thou shalt play thou triple captain and bench boost in a DGW". There's very little flexibility really with Chip usage unless you want to take a massive gamble & literally ruin your season because you didn't follow the herd.

The game was better without chips imo, it seemed to leave a lot more room for improvisation & different strategies rather than the homogenous DGW orientated approach everyone now has to take.

And before the chips there was no playing of triple captain, so how has the chips made things worse? The chips might not have added much to the game as we always had to pick a captain in a doublegameweek anyway, but I dont see how they have detracted from the game....

Probably depends on the reason you play the game?
Fun, Money Cash mini leagues, OR or just the love of the game..

For me I go all out for 2 cash mini leagues & worry bout Or when they are wrapped up

Feels very stagnant and not much differences all around with teams. Only interesting move coming up could be Arsenal players as they are fairly low owned.

Shame, but I have all my chips to play and not that confident I will make up much ground on rivals.

Yeah. Mostly because the league itself doesn't have much intrigue for me. Competition for top 4 spots and figuring out the three worst teams doesn't make up for a non-existent title race.

Someone posts this every season. You'd feel differently if you were in the top 2k or having the best season of your FPL career.

Chips do need some variety though - we need a chip that is somehow better to use outside of a DGW. I don't thlink the answer is duplicated chips for each half of the season; that just increases luck.

You only think that but i bet you still love the rush of match days.I just think this season is slightly a bit more boring because you have the top 5/6 teams and that is it, all the rest have have not given us much this season and those cheap gems that we love so well and make this game exciting are few and far between.

I remember last season around February/March i totally immersed in the game watching every game twice and started feeling fpl burnout and started thinking about retiring when the season was finished i am a sucker for punishment though and still playing though. 😉

It probably is getting boring as this time even more people have saved their chips for the end. FPL have spoon fed casuals to save it. Also add to that Salah who is making it even more boring now.

Imo agreed with the chips part but this season the stagnant captain choices, less differentials , templates working brilliant have been some issues that made 6-8 players same in each team that made it boring

FPL is just a game, its just a format to enjoy. The enjoyment doesnt come from the game itself, it doesnt come from analysing stats, it doesnt come from a Arnautovic hattrick. The enjoyment comes, like with most things, from the chats you have with your mates, reliving your victories, commiserating your defeats and anticipating the next hit.

If the "mates" you discuss the game with are on here then I am not suprised that the game has lost its edge. This community has lost its edge. Why can we not have a discussion without needing to be at the peak of optimum? Why can we not enjoy sharing our weekend stories without being swamped by people accusing us of being sunshine players? Why can we not discuss the merits of Aleksander Kolarov with all sincerity?

Still get a kick out of matchdays - the up and downs of pts etc.
Wouldn't have an interest in Burnley-Everton this week if I didn't have an FPL player in it.
Not a fan of chips but I would change for them only to be allowed in a single GW. Too much of an inbalance with other GWs. Already a bonus having extra point opportunities from extra fixtures.
Not convinced there should be such a high ceiling reward for a DGW compared to the other 35/36 normal GWs.

I’m not really bored of it but do feel a bit flat. The blanks and doubles, which were the main benefit of saving the chips for and having something to look forward to, has turned out anticlimactic. The league Cup final week normally gives at least 1 blank and then a surprise dgw after but nothing this year. I had planned for that since around gw24 and the results just didn’t work out. Then there was Pool not having any doubles at all. With them in red hot form and having no blanks or doubles, people with no chips or any idea of forward planning will just sail through anyway. I’m clinging onto the hope that having 14 doublers plus Salah for 34, a FH in 35 and then 11 doublers in 37 with a TC will give some sort of edge. In reality though, I just know that not much will gained because of how easy the fixtures have panned out and also worried that Firmino, for example will easily beat Vardy, despite 2 less games. It feels like getting XI out for free in 31 could possibly be the best form of getting an edge but the way last week went, it just shows that all the extra 2-3 players that I’d have over people with 8 or 9, will only get about 6 points anyway. I’m not even looking forwards to wildcarding, that feels like it could do more harm than good.

If you're getting bored, then try taking a sabbatical before coming back to it refreshed - or if you don't miss it then take up some other hobby.

Or play it differently, set different objectives, take more risks, try different strategies.

Like many here I'm not keen on the chips, but they are probably designed to keep the casuals interested rather than to appeal to the more serious players, and in that respect they have probably been fairly successful.

Each season is different and produces new challenges, but it is also helps to keep it interesting if you have some close rivalries, either in your mini-leagues or in the overall rankings - then you can concentrate more on the small differences and improvements rather than on the major similarities in order to make those marginal gains.

Agree. Something about this season has caused the game to lose a significant amount of luster for me. And I've been at it about 10 years as well and used to be much more engaged. If I were doing better, perhaps it would be different. Not much has worked out for me this season, and that gets old real fast. And the two-week breaks have just been too many for my liking.

It is boring now as since few seasons barring top 2-3 teams any team can be defeated by any other team due to rising quality coming with huge cash with all 20 teams. Before we used to have some top 8 teams like everton who would play consistently and lose only to top sides. Now have a look at relegation scrappers and any of bottom 8 can be relegated.
TLDR Highly Competitive EPL has been boon for football but malaise for fpl

Oh yeah. I'm spending less and less hours per week to check the latest news, articles and sorting my team out. I used to be so interested in this game but I'm not anymore. I'm just continuing playing because there's a few more gameweeks to go and I have all chips available. I seriously considered giving it a miss before this season started but decided against it in the end. Kinda regret it. It's definitely less enjoyable when luck isn't on your side and your moves rarely pay off.

I've come to the point where I don't care about my overall rank and how high will I finish. I'm not participating in any money leagues so my motivation is obviously lower than last year. Assisting community with pressers, some other infos and posts was the best thing I've done since I've made profile. It always felt good to help others.
Now I'm not even a regular poster anymore, more like a lurker and casual who is upvoting good banter between posters.

I feel like I'm stuck in limbo. Watching Arsenal struggling is also a big part of why I just want this season to end and move on to the next one. Better times are coming, hopefully.

My seventh season playing FPL, I'm having a terrible season currently sitting 541,598. I'm a fully paid up member, look at stats, watch a lot of football, Like to pick 15 players who play regularly for their clubs. Try to minimise hits, stay away from picking injury prone players.
Played with couple of template players with differential ones, so I'm not following the herd. Just keep hitting red arrows.
Anyway the point I'm getting at, this is definitely the first season I've felt bored and fed up playing the game, obviously due to my rubbish rank. The amount of time I spend, I should be doing so much better.
Only positives I have to take forward until end, Still have my Wildcard, Free Hit, Triple Captain, Bench Boost all firmly in my back pocket. Playing my wildcard in Gameweek 32, going to different I will be thousands of miles away from here.
On holiday in Australia for four weeks. Good luck to all doing so well in such a strange season.

Hate that feeling when you feel you’re putting the effort in but not getting the rewards, meanwhile it seems effortless for others to rock up into the top 10k. One or two bad decisions can ruin a season (e.g. ignoring Salah for too long, or missing Kane’s b2b hattrick captains etc) it can be such a cruel, illogical game sometimes.

I definitely still do look forward to match days, but a lot of the old magic has worn off now, feels like we’ve seen it all already.

it's all Salah's fault 😉 I ignored him for ages (intentionally) in order to have differentials (Mane/Coutinho/Eriksen/Hazard) in the hope he wouldn't keep scoring - he did, obviously. I sold my soul and brought him in eventually.

Basically start the season with Salah instead of Mane or Coutinho, choose Sterling over Sane, swap Morata to Firmino before his hauls and you are practically uncatchable because those players keep scoring...zzz

We really do need something to shake up the final 10 game s of the season. Something like BGW31 unexpectedly being a bumper GW with Daniels, Wilson, VVD, Shaqiri etc all scoring heavily...

I had Sane when he was blanking, got rid of him, he's started getting points. Silva blanking then in and out the team, for family reasons.
Not owned Aguero since playing my wildcard in GW 12.

Hey guys! Has anyone played Ultimate Fantasy Premier League a couple of seasons ago? It had a membership (I think 5 pounds) but it had so many more interesting options. You could pick 25 players, then play 11 have 7 on the bench and 7 inactive. Then during the gw you could replace players from match day 1 that didn't perform well with players from the bench that were playing match day 2. Same with the captain. It had other different stuff too with the transfers etc. I think it was much more fun and interesting than for example the fpl draft game which is quite boring i must say and less competitive and less global. I really think that bringing back ufpl will be amazing. Or if normal fpl can get some of the elements of ufpl to make it more interesting and strategic. Especially now that the conversation opened on how to make fpl less boring and more interesting i suggest bring Ultimate Fantasy Premier League back!

Absolutely. I feel like our focus is always on chips, and when to use them now - rather than focusing on picking football players. The game becomes more mathematical analysis than football-focused.

Analysis should be an optional extra to supplement the football game - voluntary work carried out when we want to find an edge in our mini-leagues - not a chore we have to do to keep up.

Chips are too obnoxious, they become this loud crying baby that is impossible to ignore, and takes away from the scenery. Either make them less obstructive by reducing their power, or get rid. Bring the focus back on the football, FPL!

I have found that head to head league can add excitement, no worry about OR use chips when you play potentially better players etc.
Forget about classic league at same time, hard to win both same time.

Agree the least few GW's have been boring. All teams converging to a template, and everyone captaining Salah, so impossible to climb the ranks.
Imho the single improvement that should be done to the game is to allow two transfers each GW, to make the teams more dynamic. But still only possible to roll over one transfer each GW.
Also, I'm questioning if not the selling fee is making teams more static.

It was pretty Rough - they missed out the part that I brought in Vertonghen too......... even Rougher.

Apparently my decision to bench Shaqiri was just a bad decision.... In my defence
        - Shaqiri was playing away to Leicester and Stoke are one of the worst teams on the road
        - The rest of my attack was Deulo, Sterling, Salah, Son, Firmino, Kane, Wilson - Shaqiri had the worst fixture out of all of those.
        - I took the hit because I had a feeling that Son, Lingard and Sterling were all at risk of not playing. Deulo had two great fixtures and also featured in GW31.

Everything is obvious in hindsight 🙂
