It hasn’t taken long for Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson to make his mark in the Premier League. Handed the role of chief creator by Brendan Rodgers, the loan signing from Hoffenheim has already produced a series of strong performances and, with 3 assists and a goal in just four appearances, is starting to catch the eye of Fantasy managers.

Climbing off the bench on his debut, Sigurdsson set up Danny Graham to notch the winner in a five-goal thriller against Arsenal. Despite a blank in the following game away to Sunderland, the Icelandic international provided the assist in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea, before a sublime display –in his first full appearance for the Swans- saw him return a goal and assist in last week’s 2-1 win at West Brom.

Averaging 6.25 points per game in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), and priced at a mere 5.0, we analyse his displays so far, using the Opta stats available to members, in addition to our very own ICT Index…

Worth playing Krul over Mignolet as most people in my league will have a Newcastle defender?

it will hurt you then when Krul saves a penalty and Sunderland doesn't keep a cleepsheet tho. Krul is a better Keeper for me tho theyre against a spurs.

not really my point. the point is even if Krul doesn't keep a cleanie. hed still get some points from saves 😀 so anyhow im still playing Krul cause seems like Mignolet(Arsenal) isn't a good fixture aswell. i might play Mignolet over Krul when the fixture is obvious enough.

    Take 2

    Hope this formats ok!

    Number-crunching-for-those-looking-to-go-Aguerooneyless-and-possibly-hopskotching-with-cheap-strikers…

Midfield - With the exception of McClean, Sig and AOC, decent midfielders cost at least 7.2. AOC is also a rotation risk with Gervinho, so that leaves just the men from Sunderland and Swansea, respectively. Money is needed in this area. The Power 5 are worth having.

Defence - Swansea are struggling for clean sheets (dirty buggers), Newcastle’s generally end up on people’s benches and Sunderland are emerging on the crest of a wave. Are there any other cheap CS points to be had? No. Therefore, to acquire the services of reliable defenders from the likes of City, Pool, Spurs and Utd, funds need to be made available. I’m obviously not talking of Leighton Baines’ proportions, but investment is needed nevertheless. The fixtures aren’t spectacular short term for Pool and Spurs, but leave their reasonably priced defenders exposed in your team till the end and it should pay off (with the occasional benching for a particularly awkward fixture).

However, with forwards there is plenty of value to be had in order to facilitate this strategy:

    Sample taken from GWs 13-24.

    Aguero:2,6,5,1,13,2,1,8,2,2,11 TS:55
    Rooney:5,2,12,7,7,1,0,2,6,2,0,12 TS:56

    Graham:1,0,6,2,2,8,1,6,8,2,2,7 TS:45
    Keane:0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,1,13,2,9 TS:25
    Morison:2,6,6,5,6,2,2,5,7,2,2,1 TS:46
    Yakubu:2,21,2,2,6,2,12,5,-2,0,0,0 TS:50
    Fletcher:2,13,6,2,2,8,8,4,9,2,2,1 TS:59
    Zamora:1,2,0,0,1,0,0,8,2,17,0,7 TS:38

Don’t necessarily focus on the TOTAL scores (aside from Rooney and Aguero); focus more on the hot streaks. At a cost of no more than 6.8 and 1 FT, look at the points that could have been acquired on a shoe string from GW13, which comfortably outscore the excessive cost of Aguerooney. For example:

Fletcher, GWs 13-21,  54 points FT TO Zamora, GWs 22-24, 24 points = 78 POINTS
Yakubu, GWs  13-21, 50 points FT TO Zamora, GWs 22-24, 24 points = 74 POINTS
Yakubu, GWs  13-21, 50 points FT TO Keane, GWs 22-24, 24 points = 74 POINTS
Fletcher, GWs 13-21,  54 points FT TO Keane, GWs 22-24, 24 points = 78 POINTS

I have included Yakubu’s red card as part of the streak (GW21), as realistically you/I would have kept him for FUL, but then obviously sold after the dismissal.

Conclusion: up front could be where to spend your transfers. Catch it right and you won’t need to spend too many FTs on the rest of your squad. The defence and midfield can be largely left after being reinforced with the cash left from the sales of expensive strikers. 3 penalties this GW between Aguerooney have also inflated their total scores since GW13.

Captaincy is more than a valid argument, but actually captaining Aguerooney this week would have meant a red arrow. During both GWs 15 and 17 (when Aguerooney last got double figure scores respectfully, prior to this week), RVP would have been captain and this would have been rewarded with 2 goals and 1 assist (EVE and avl).

Really good post. The problem is with hopping from striker to striker, you'd have to be ridiculously lucky to catch all their streaks perfectly. Get it wrong and you're looking at red arrows.

i though the same but when I made similar math about Silva not Kun I realized that I don't need him. So I am for Kun and little less cash midfield. The Power 5 are sucking too much cash. I will go big in defense near the end. Tot, Liv, Che, City all good bets for CS's

Excellent post. I was thinking of this strat as well as a power 5 owner. I have fletcher at the mo and have ba and yak in my sights. As you said tho the trick is catching the streaks.

You guys are getting the debate rolling nicely.

With someone like Fletcher, you actually pick the most perverse fixtures for him as CS Destroyer. However, whilst you may not get it right everytime, you're saving so much cash and you can just jump or hopskotch on to the next option should it not work out.

Look at Mark - he's never had any Rooney or Aguero hauls but his team overall has propelled him to within a few points of immortality.

I hear you though, Mull. Agueroless v BOL and BLA is making me nervous (to the extent of selling Silva again). Aside from that, though, I feel RVP and 2 of Ba, Cisse, Yak etc. will be better off long term, though may hurt occasionally.

Silva and Raylor have been my achilles heel this year.

I had Silva few a weeks post OT then sold due to form and his injury before Wigan. He then got 4 assists in 3, so I bought him back for Fulham at home.

Now I may sell him again.

I think from GW 28 onwards, it might be unnecessary to keep A Man City defender, but instead load up on one from Man Utd (gw 28 on), Liverpool (29/30 on) and Spurs (31 on). Couple this with a couple of cheapies from say Newcastle and Fulham. Thoughts?

What are people's thoughts on gw29 rearrangements? Will they stay within the same gameweek?

At the moment if 5th round results go as expected (Prem team beating lower team), we're on for:

    Fulham v Swansea
    Wigan v WBA
    Wolves v Man Utd

    that weekend.

Plus Blackburn v Sunderland if Arsenal beat Sunderland.

very interesting, could really help me catch the clueless morons in my mini league who are somehow ahead of me if there is big rescheduling.

No imo unless dyer is a starter on your team,if he is on the bench most weeks just save your transfer,he is still very attacking and plays on the flank in a 3 man attack

Been desperate to put siggy in all week and these articles aren't making my decisions any easier! problem is i had a plan to make 2 transfers over the next 2 games weeks to bring in aguero. To bring in siggy would cost me a further 8 points. Would this be worth it over the foreseeable future or shall i just bite th bullet and hope he blanks?
