Monitor – Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang

With a reduced Gameweek 31 limiting the scope of Big Numbers, we’re taking a new route with our articles for members over the international break.

Our “Monitor” series will focus on some of the top transfer targets set to be involved in the Double Gameweeks and therefore included in Wildcard squads, as we analyse our data to offer an appraisal of their prospects.

We start the series by turning to Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, a player being lined up by many Fantasy managers as a ready-made replacement for the stricken Harry Kane.

Over 114,000 acquired the Gabon international for Gameweek 31, despite the fact he was without a league fixture.

Since Saturday’s deadline passed and more Wildcards are wielded in anticipation of double Gameweeks, Aubameyang is the most bought player in Fantasy Premier League, collecting a further 110,00 new owners.

With that in mind, we take a look at his impact since arriving at the Emirates over the winter break.

Handed a debut in Gameweek 26, Aubameyang has bagged three goals, an assist and 26 FPL points in five league outings – averaging 5.2 points per match.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Anyone know Alli's stats playing without Kane?

Was thinking earlier today if his goalscoring streak last season was when Kane was out and he was playing as second striker? Could be a differential on a wildcard and maybe double up with Son.

Son's best position is at flanks. Alli or someone need to play
        as a striker.

Maybe, Lamela can join in the fun so it's a fluid front 4, don't need a target man the way they shift it about

    A) Alonso, Mustafi, Barnes and Gudmundsson (sub) 0.1 ITB
    or
    B) Christensen, Cedric, Vardy and A. King (sub)? 0.2 ITB

Still have BB left. Key question is Alonso or Vardy?

A for me, especially if you have Mahrez. Not too keen on Vardy/Mahrez double up.

Likewise with Barnes/Gudmunsen. Bit heavy on a low scoring team. Unless Barnes is a placeholder for Ayew in GW34, in which case Murray for the next 2 would be better

      1. gilean

Yeah, it does seem too much with a double up, although Vardy does pick points regularly. Can't afford Murray right now, and Barnes is a placeholder for Ayew.

Atm I am considering Vardy/Mahrez double up. Not especially happy about it, but on the other hand if it works out, it could be nice differential.

          Germany 27/3
          Palace 31/3 (12.30am)
          City 4/4
          Everton 7/4

5 games in 15 days. Klopp has no say over the internationals.

He plays vs City and surely in the derby.

          Palace could be reduced mins

Mane is similar dates and he has to travel from Africa.

Why are people on here choosing Van der Hoorn ahead of Fernandez? Im pretty sure Fernandez is ahead in the pecking order, and if Swansea move to 4 at the back, I expect VDH to be the one to drop out. Havent watched a lot of Swansea's games this season, but it looks like Fernandez has a bigger attacking threat too.

    1. Powell
      • 7 Years

I agree. I wanted to save the 0.1, but any switch back to 442 puts VDH in danger

    2. Ramboros
      • 12 Years
      6 years, 10 days ago

Fernandez has lower attacking threat than VdH, and VdH is in my view performing better than Naughton, Fernandez and Olsson at the moment. It would be a highly erratic move from Carvalhal to move to 4 at the back with virtually no options in midfield and on the wing. The last time Carvalhal used 4 at the back, Van der Hoorn started over Fernandez.

      1. Hotdogs for Tea
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 10 days ago

Swans have loads of options in midfield and on the wing, Narsingh, Dyer etc. and generally set up with 4 defenders in the FA Cup games.

I recall Fernandez had personal time off at the time when VdH played, he was not favoured for any ‘form’ reason.

It is possible that Swans could go to 4 at the back at home against weaker teams, and possible that Bartley had a game at VdH expense in one of the doubles.

That said, VdH has been playing well but he is just one of 4 CBs.

VdH would be my last pick as a Swansea defender and is the most at risk to being rotated, imho 🙂

I don't see a switch to a back 4 unless there is an injury crisis. If he does switch to a back 4 it would definitely be Mawson and Fernandez over VDH. Fernandez is captain when he plays. Rested at the weekend in the Cup.

As for attacking threat, neither FF nor VDH has much . FF scored recently but didnt get off the ground , it was just terrible marking. The only one of our defenders with any attacking threat is Mawson

I see your point. It's true that their histories are impressive in part because they play it safe. I don't think any of them are likely to win the thing with that strategy. But they don't all follow each other with every decision. That's why I mentioned 5-at-the-back, which was a tactic employed by only one of the members. So 'one does something, and they all follow' is sometimes the case and sometimes not.

Whenever I have had a look though, 90% of their teams are the same.

            It’s just a bit boring 🙂

Yeah I agree with that. But I also find excitement in the small differences between teams. It's like when you choose to race in really slow cars on Gran Turismo. It's boring, but then you realise that the tiniest movements can help you gain momentum or slow you down and ultimately cost you everything or win you the bragging rights. Then you appreciate the fast races more the next time you play.

    How is this WC?

    DDG / Fab
    Alonso - Smalling - Mustafi - Morgan - VDH
    Salah - Mahrez - Son - Willian - Kenedy
    Lukaku - Abou - Barnes

    Or should I do Smalling/Willian —> Lowton/Silva or Mkhi?

ENOUGH IS enough. When will we know about the dgw mayhem 3 days into WC and need the lovely fixture graphic to be updated. Hehe. Anyone know when we will know ? What weeks will be dgw and does one have more than the other. Is best tactic tc the first then bb the second?

Does anyone know roughly if and how wildcard transfers affect player price rises? Seems to me that the prices are taking ages to tick over this week considering how many transfers are being made.

Several players on fplstatistics this week have been highlighted blue or red (indicating a likely price rise or fall) overnight, only to fall back in the early hours to somewhere below the threshold, as if an auto-correct feature sifts out all the wildcard transfers and either discounts them or reduces their impact.

Like me, many thousands have been itching to use their wildcards for weeks and have pulled the trigger already ahead of GW32.

But has any thought ever been given to using the following global “cheat” - make all your transfers throughout the window, without actually pressing the magic “Use Wildcard” button until the Saturday morning of the next round of fixtures?

If, say, you made 11 transfers during your wildcard week (1 x free, 10 x hits), you would be due a 40-point deduction if you didn’t press the button. But, as I understand it, by finally confirming your wildcard at any stage before the next round of fixtures actually kick off, you would then wipe out all your potential points hits.

Done universally (i.e. by many thousands), all the transfers made in the week/fortnight of wildcard week would be seen by the AI as legitimate transfers as it couldn’t possibly guess everyone was going to confirm their wildcard at the last minute. This would allow everybody to benefit from quicker and more frequent price rises to pad the value of their team and drive down more quickly the prices of players who were being jettisoned. (The benefit of this would be that Messrs Kane and Ayew etc would be at an even more appealing price when we come to pick them up again around GW34)

Having mopped up the price rises, everyone could use their wildcards on the final Saturday morning and negate the potentially huge points hits their team was going to suffer. Obviously, you’d need a memory to remember to press the button (so no Friday night boozing, though I know this is an alcohol-free forum anyway...) and balls of steel, but would this have any effect?

I know it’s playing the system and probably not worth the hassle, but might be fun to try. Or I might just be bored hitless because it’s international week! 🙂
