Earlier in the week, our recent series of Monitor members’ articles on Wildcard ran the rule over both Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku, the two most bought forwards ahead of Gameweek 32.

Next up in our assessment is Riyad Mahrez, the second most bought midfielder ahead of Leicester City’s expected pair of Double Gameweeks.

Despite finding himself out of favour in the early months – due to a lofty 8.5 opening price tag and disappointing previous season – the Algerian has turned back the clock to rediscover the heights of his dominant 2015/16 campaign.

Now sitting fourth among midfielders in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) with 161 points, Mahrez has proven himself to once again represent a consistent top-end choice. Meanwhile, double-digit hauls in successive Gameweeks underpin the Algerian’s explosive potential as a differential captaincy option for managers willing to swim against the tide.

With an incredibly obliging run to end the season – including two Double Gameweeks and a slew of favourable matchups (Leicester’s next six fixtures will match them against Brighton, Newcastle, Burnley, Southampton, Crystal Palace and West Ham) – the winger will be a staple among Wildcard squads.

    Salah Son Mahrez Groß Ibe
    Lukaku Barnes Aubameyang

    GW34 Auba + Monreal —> Vardy + Baily

    Thoughts?

Bottomed. Currently eyeing on the possibility of going into GW34 with 4-5-1. Reasoning behind this is the problems with the strikers for 34:

    1. Lukaku: great fixtures but is he really worth the price tag? Could see some rotation vs Bournemouth cause of the cup game.
    2. Firmino: Could outscore players with DGW but rotation also a big issue. Will be expected to start but be subbed around the 70 minute mark in most games before 34.
    3. Vardy: No real rotation threat. Not expecting to get as many points per minutes as Bobby/Lukaku.

Moving to 4-5-1 with just Vardy up front could see me with team like this:
    DDG
    Valencia Alonso Morgan Lowton
    Haz Salah Son Willian Mahrez
    Vardy

Then the plan would be to TC in 34 and BB in 37. Since this is just a draft I would like to hear your opinions? Could this be given a thought maybe?

Free hit in 35. Looking the possibility of including Arsenal players and then switching up just before 34. Will have to see.

That’s is similar to what I’m doing. But I’m having Vardy and Auba up front, with Willian and Smalling instead of your premium assets.

This is funded by having a none playing 4.5 forward. I understand that with bench boost it’s ideal to have a full team, but I can take the 2 point loss from not having Barnes etc that won’t be played again.

      What do you think?

Can get this team for GW35 with -4.

    Meaning I can FH34. WC36. BB37. TC38

    Ederson.
    VVD. Mee. Kiko.
    Walcott. Shaqiri. Salah. Sterling.
    Auba. Deeney/Tosun. Firmino.

    What you reckon?

        I don't want a terrible team for GW36 and 37

GW37 is miles better fixtures for BB.
Makes perfect sense to me to go this route.

Of course it can all change should the postponed fixtures for the quarter finalists gets put into midweek if GW35

How is 37 so much better?
Swansea & Southampton instead of Burnley & Brighton for bench fodder.

More pool of players to choose from. Much easier to get Kane in.
No hits in these gameweeks for me.

(again all this is only if fixtures gets placed into GW37 - which is unknown currently)

It makes sense to me as I haven't 'dead-ended' my team for GW32

Yes possibly but depends on if I want to BB in 34 or 37.
Like I say the difference is choosing the bench fodder players.
I don't get the argument about bigger pool of players it will be Swansea & South rather than Burnley & Brighton.
The bench fodder teams in 37 do seem to have better fixtures than those in 34 though.
Kane will come in for most players regardless of when they play their WC (a few FTs left before 37).
WCing in double doubles isn't a problem for me as my team was awful.

I'm wary of bring seduced by the dgws.

Happy to have players from those teams - but only ones I would actually want long-term.

No point crowbarring players in for the sake of it and missing out on other form players with good fixtures.

So Mahrez, DDG, and Alonso for me.

      But then I'm BB37 and possibly FH34.

    Current WC draft:

De Gea / Karnezis (plan to play DDG but need a decent option of GW35)
Van Aanholt / Lowton / Robertson / Alonso / Monreal
    Mahrez / Willian / Milivojevic / Son / Salah
    Aubameyang / Barnes / Vardy
1m in the bank for upgrades as and when

That leaves me with eight DGWers in 34 (DDG, Lowton, Alonso, Mahrez, Willian, Son, Barnes, Vardy and the ability to have 11 players in 35 (Karnezis, PVA, Lowton, Robertson, Monreal, Milivojevic, Salah, Barnes, Aubameyang + 2FT).

I plan to FH on 37 and have the TC to use along the way.

    A few issues/concerns...

    1) Monreal - is he nailed on if fir?
    2) Lowton - I prefer Morgan at Leicester but can’t reallt afford to carry him through 35. Lowton has the benefit of a DGW and a match in 35.
    3) Barnes - certainly in the absence of Ayew, I can’t see a better option but would be more enthused if Wood was likely to displace him so that I could bring the Kiwi in instead.

    All thoughts welcome.

If I'm free hitting in DGW34, can I make a transfer to my original team before I activate the chip?

I'm going with the FH DGW34, wildcard GW36, BB DGW37 strategy as I already have 8 GW35 players and no TC to slot in.

Sane is the better option, certainly until City secure the league, but obviously comes at a greater cost.

Right transfers for setting up a GW34 Bench Boost? Will cost 4 points, 3x FT’s plus 1 for a hit. Vardy is the one I’m not sure on - wondering whether Aubameyang might be a better bet as he has a GW35 fixture, and good fixes either side of GW34:

      Elliott > Pope
      Kenny > Lowton
      Sané > Mahrez
      Mcburnie > Vardy (or Aubameyang??)

      DGW34 Bench Boost Lineup - 11x DGW’ers plus 3 Liverpool & Theo

      DDG, Pope
      Alonso, Daniels, Chilwell, Lowton, VVD
      Son, Mahrez, Stanislas, Salah, Theo
      Vardy, Wilson, Firmino

      Being doing some rejigging.
      Swansea for BB 37.
Arsenal assets for short term gains. A bit of money in the bank to make changes as I go.

      What could go wrong?
      FH 35.
      BB 37.

      DDG, Fabianski.
      Bailly, Mustafi, Lowton, Christensen, Fernandez.
      Son, Mahrez, Willian, Gross, Salah.
      Firmino, Aubameyang, Barnes.
      1.3m in account.

Yeah build really strong 11 for both DGW and FH in GW35. Target United, Chelsea, Spurs and even Arsenal because although they have 1 fixture in GW34 it's Newcastle away which is still good and have amazing fixture til the end.

      With a 32WC, 34BB & 35FH I think it
makes sense to go with 2 ARS and switch them to 2 DGWers in 34. Auba appears a lock so it’s 1 of Mkhi, Monreal or Mustafi....best option?

      A) Smalling & Mkhi
      Mkhi & Auba -> Willian & Kaku in 34

      B) Monreal & Willian
      Monreal & Auba -> 5.3 & Kaku in 34

      C) Monreal & Mkhi
Mkhi & Auba -> Willian & Kaku in 34 but have 1 fewer DGWer

I’ll be wrong, of course, but Lukaku just doesn’t inspire confidence in Mourinho’s United...and comes at significant cost.

Yeah doing same except I'm keeping Auba if he's performing well (which I expect him to do). However for your question A

You think Smalling will start? I’m a little worried he’ll move to the bench once Jones is back

I think it's a risk yes but for now seems good. You could always C if unsure and keep Monreal (although I'd go Mustafi as Monreal could be rested for Europa)

After reading the JASONG123 post and the comments on the other page, made me think about actually saving 0.3 on Ryan to Joe Hart in order to fund Kenedy/Matic to Gudmundsson.

As ive got DDG im only going to be playing my second keeper in GW34 BB, which is for Ryan (Palace away and Spurs home) and for Hart (Stoke home). However the difference in price allows me to get Gudmundsson with (Leicester home and Chelsea home) instead of Kenedy (Arsenal home) or Matic (West brom home and Bournmouth away). So what do you think:

      A) Ryan and Kenedy/Matic

      Or

      B) Joe Hart and Gudmondsson

No way. Owned him for about 10 weeks and hated it, he's not a good pick imo

That’s it! After reading Sean Dyche’s post match comments following the WHU match, I am taking the plunge on Chris Wood rather than Ashley Barnes. Rationale:

      a) Dyche indicated he almost started him (he came on and scored two, and had a hand in Barnes’ goal)...so very likely to start next week
      b) he has accumulated points at a rate of one every 15.9mins this season, as opposed to Barnes’ 24.2mins
      c) greater explosive potential
      d) half the ownership

Obviously the extra 0.9m is a bit of a drag but genuinely think he offers significantly better returns.

the burnley defence is more reliable and consistent when delivering points

True. Got a Burnley defender too. I’m just talking a third striking option.

Do you think Barnes will not play?

I think he’ll potential play both, but Wood has made the difference when he has come on in the last two matches, apparently. If he plays both, and Wood continues to play well then that is certainly a risk because I think he offers the greater threat...and the stats bear that out.

Think I'm going Barnes for now but will not play that much and switch to J.Ayew when he returns

Still scored fewer goals (and points) than Wood this season, despite having played 500mins more.

Probably going into gw35 with 11 players - includes Auba, Mhiki, Salah, Firmino, Mustafi.

Worth FH35 to max out on City players as well - or play FH34?
