Our coverage of Gameweek 32 concludes now as we assess the latest player, team and talking point to draw our attention from the previous round of matches.

Marko Arnautovic steps up his form just as the fixtures turn against West Ham United. Spurs sweep aside Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to announce their intentions ahead of a very favourable run-in. Meanwhile, a quick return for Harry Kane seems set to change the plans of many Fantasy managers as we look to exploit the Double Gameweeks.

The Player

After a run of three straight blanks, just 21,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers acquired Marko Arnautovic for Gameweek 32.

With many focused on bringing in Double Gameweek 34 assets, the West Ham United midfielder boasted a mere 4% ownership as he served up two goals and 16 FPL points in the 3-0 home win over Southampton.

That brace at the London Stadium continued the Austrian’s remarkable transformation since a change of position under manager David Moyes.

Moved up front at home to Chelsea in Gameweek 16, he fired the winner in a 1-0 victory.

Since then, Arnautovic is second only to Mohamed Salah in midfield for both goals (nine to 17) and shots on target (21 to 29).

He also places among the top five midfielders for total attempts (40), efforts in the box (30) and big chances (11) over that timeframe.

Indeed, with nine goals, four assists and ten bonus points accrued from Gameweek 16 onwards, he’s averaged 7.4 points per match as a centre-forward.

But one look at West Ham’s fixture list suggests that Arnautovic will keep that differential tag over the run-in.

Clashes against Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City in three of the next four leave just a home encounter with former club Stoke in Gameweek 34 as the most promising match on his short-term agenda.

With an expected Double Gameweek 37 likely to comprise of matches against Leicester and Man United, Moyes’ men don’t have it easy, though a visit from Everton in the final round of fixtures offers a silver lining.

That schedule indicates that the Hammers will still have everything to play for as the season unfolds, ensuring that Arnautovic remains firing on all cylinders as one of the most explosive out-of-position options around.

The Team

Spurs picked the perfect time to finally end their 28-year wait for a win at Stamford Bridge, all but extinguishing Chelsea’s hopes of claiming a top-four finish in the process.

Now eight points ahead of the fifth-placed Blues, Mauricio Pochettino’s men are braced for an outstanding run-in that pits them against just two top-half opponents from this point onwards.

While the big news pre-match was all about the return of Harry Kane, it was notable that the north London outfit’s big-hitters all delivered in his absence – indeed, they were already 3-1 up by the time he emerged from the bench on 74 minutes.

With Kane now expected to be recalled to the staring XI away to Stoke, the concerns over Son Heung-min’s rivalry with Erik Lamela for pitch-time may persuade many to now limit their targets in midfield.

Handily, Dele Alli’s brace and Christian Eriksen’s stunning equaliser showcased their points potential as we start firming up our plans for the remainder of the season.

As one of just six sides expected to offer two Double Gameweeks, the Spurs attack looks conducive to Fantasy investment.

In defence, though, Pochettino’s tendency to rotate at full-back means that centre-half Jan Vertonghen is the only secure pick into a rearguard that’s the third most resilient for both clean sheets (14) and goals against, with 26.

While 11 starts in 12 on the left underline Ben Davies’ potential, his omission from the squad as recently as the Gameweek 30 trip to Bournemouth shows that the Welshman’s acquisition doesn’t come without a degree of risk.

That’s likely to ensure that most of us will focus mainly on the Spurs attack as Pochettino’s men look to maintain the form that’s seen them lose just once in 19 matches across all competitions since the turn of the year.

The Talking Point

Kane’s speedy recovery and late cameo has already impacted on the FPL market.

Sold by over 1.1m over the previous two rounds of fixtures, the Spurs frontman is the top transfer target for Gameweek 33 ahead of a trip to a Stoke side that he’s fired eight goals past in the last four league meetings.

Roberto Firmino has been the major fall guy. Devoid of a Double Gameweek and with just a goal and assist in four, the Liverpool forward has earned more than 52,000 sales already.

Over 30,000 have parted company with Romelu Lukaku for Man United’s trip to the Etihad – overlooking the Belgian’s four goals and two assists in six and a Double Gameweek 34 against West Brom and Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s brace against the Potters took his tally to 6.5 points per match since arriving at Arsenal. Given that Arsene Wenger’s side, along with United and Spurs, are also expected to offer us a Double Gameweek 37, his case for inclusion has built nicely following Sunday’s 13-point haul.

While those still with Wildcards to wield can shuffle their packs accordingly, those without both a Wildcard and Kane now face a major decision.

Surprisingly, the Spurs man has managed just one double-digit haul from Gameweek 22 onwards.

Yet with an anticipated Double Gameweek 37 against West Brom and Newcastle, Kane will be a heavy favourite for the captaincy and Triple Captain chip at that point.

While overlooking him altogether looks a very risky tactic in light of Spurs’ fixtures and form, the decision when to bring in Kane may ultimately prove a decisive one in our quest for a final surge up the rankings.

We will have a Burning Question, surveying the views of some leading and experienced FPL managers on the Kane issue, later this week.

    Alonso or William?

Who will score more over the next 3 game weeks?

Chelsea is on a terrible run of form, especially at the back... Maybe Charlie Austin would be a better gamble? Playing for survival brings out the best in some...

I have Willian myself but I'm not sure what to do with him. Alonzo is a trap imo. Too much money for what he delivers. Looks great yes but not returning points. There is something rotten going on at Chelsea and I think it's best to get rid.

I’ve got Alonso, every time I look at the live text versus Spurs he was mentioned as attacking.

Chelsea should get one clean sheet at least against Southampton or West Ham.

Austin could be very good though!

Will activate WC this week and think I will skip Chelsea players...

Having two or maybe three Tottenham players such as Kane, Alii, Vtong or Son seem more exciting.

Seeing no City assets in teams is crazy - they score for fun and will continue to do so... Probably against United and until the end of the season. D.Silva has fresh legs and is scoring for fun (did well vs United last time out too)

Some of the DGW players are just not that exciting... Returns don't look that inspiring, especially in defence and in goal (apart from DDG)

Stupidly activated wc this GW, now finding it near to impossible to navigate both GW33 and GW34 in a senible manner. Originally planned free hit in GW35, but just came to think maybe its better to bring in a GW35+DGW37 assets on wc now (Man city, Arsenal and Newcastle), and then free hit in GW35? In that case, need to find those nailed Arsenal + City assets.

Had planned GW37 bb (not tc), but may take a closer look at gw34 bb. Looking closer at GW37, it doesn't necessarily seem easier to field a decent bb, given that you'll be priced out of maxing out on extra players from Arsenal and City (in addition to Spurs, Chelsea and ManU) anyway.

Some of us on this site are doing that. Loaded up with City and Arsenal assets, with Newcastle and Swansea enablers for 35 - 37 on WC, playing FH in 34.

Have a look at my team (linked). I pressed WC in 32.

          Arsenal - Auba, Mkhi, Mustafi
          City - Sane, Otamendi

Key is whether you are more comfortable with Swansea and Newcastle (37) or with Burnley and Brighton (34). Other benefits of this approach:

          - Getting Sanchez, Lukaku, Kane in 34 is easy
          - You get an extra FT for 37 over those using FH in 35

          1. Pompel
            • 11 Years
            7 years, 8 months ago

Still a question of minutes for Mkhi and Sané at least I'd say? I think there's not much between Newcastle and Swansea vs. Burnley and Brighton. Oly issue is no Barnes, maybe.
One downside of proposed strategy is obvioulsy that one is wc'ing several weeks before using bb chip. But as you point out, an extra FT to deal with issues,

Yes I agree. I think those rotation risks will also be there with the likes of Willian, Son, Lingard, etc. Plus when you hit FH in 35 you will inevitably get the same Arsenal and City players. This way I am effectively maximizing potential of the FH chip in 34 and will likely end up with a similar to most in 35 when others will use FH.

Valid point. Only thing is we will now more closer to GW35, which goes in favour of FH in 3, and BB in 34.

Another vote for FH34, BB37 - as Jigger describes.

We are in the minority, but it does make a lot of sense. Especially when you consider the relative value offered by Arsenal and City (and Liverpool) players over United and Chelsea players.

Swansea and Newcastle players should still be relatively motivated in 37 and offer great value too.

      1. Pompel
        • 11 Years

Agree about Swans and Newcastle. Another thing is it allows for keeping two - or even three Liverpool players for GW33 and 3, two of which will obviously be shifted for GW37.

Exactly - I just didn't see the point of carving my squad up for the sake of a dgw in 34 where I might get 15 points extra.

It's about setting up a team that is maximised for all gameweeks, not just the doubles. Arsenal, Liverpool and City have some great fixtures and it seems a shame to overlook them.

Main downside is having to use TC in a sgw (Salah....), but for those without TC then it is an even better strategy.

My actual team, after WC in GW32 and i have not any bonus to play.

    DDG - Fabianski
    Alonso - Jones - Robertson - Davies - Tark
Salah - Son - Willian - Mc Arthur - Mahrez
    Lukaku - Firmino - Barnes.

I'm not sure if at the moment Kane is worth 12.7, i'm not sure that the ratio cost-bonus is good or not.
Maybe needs to see if Man city wins derby and pass of turn in CL, to understand that aguero wants to run on golden foot or not (with world cup).

At the moment the big doubt, imho, is son minutes with kane returns.

The feeling when you don't want to post your squad due to Richarlison still being part of it.
    Sad face.

How's this team looking for this week?

    DDG
    Vert - Alonso - Mustafi
    Salah - Mahrez - Willian - Gross
    Lukaku - Auba (c) - Barnes

    McCarthy - Morgan - Lowton - King

Play Morgan (Newcastle home) or Lukaku (City away)?

Looks good to me, I'd play Lukaku.

Morning troops, has Ki (SWA) lost his place in starting 11 or tactical?

    1. QuintonFortune25

Tactical. He started but after 2-0 down they tried something different to get back into the game by bringing on T.Carroll. Ki should start next week again. King looks good tho and only 4.2

For GW37 BB, is Ederson as good choice as de Gea?
Could then go with Valencia or Smalling in defense

Don't see why not - depends on if you prefer a man city defender to a man utd defender really!

Ederson could play GW35 then. And then there's the issue of roation - Smalling or Valencia vs. Otamendi basically.

        1. Ëð

It's Valencia vs Otamendi really. Don't think Smalling is assured of starts.

I think Ederson could re on the bench. Bravo only needs 4 more appearances to get a Premier League medal

Hmm, if so, think I'll stay away.

Absolutely - I have him. In rotation with Fabianski, there are some mouth-watering fixtures.

wba, WBA, bou, SWA, whm, (HUD, BHA, bou, SOT) sot.

Some will say he is a rotation risk. But he is chasing the golden glove.

FA rules state that a player needs to have 5 appearances to be get a winners medal - but clubs can apply for "special dispensation". this is commonly applied to reserve goalkeepers.

      A risk worth taking, IMO.

Looking closer , I think maybe Lloris could be the safer choice. Would then get Dubravka to cover GW35.

For GKs, if using FH in 34, also look at Fabianski + Dubravka. You get:

wba, (WBA, bou), eve, WBA, (wat, tot, bou, SOT), STO.

Ederson works beautifully too with either Dubravka or Fabianski.

hmm. good shout actually. Thing is its easier to cover defense from the big teams with a goalkeeper than with premium defenders.

Morning everyone - any thoughts on this WC team?

    DDG, Ryan
    Christensen, Chilwell, Lowton, Morgan, Dunk
    Salah, Mahrez, Lingard, Willian, Gross
    Kane, Auba, Barnes

£2.1m left over. Need £1m saved to switch Auba -> Lukaku going into GW34... anything else you would improve? Planning to FH going into GW35.

maybe tark for lowton and duffy for dunk.
i don't like lingard, 'cause he's in rotation.

Thanks, good shouts. Lingard seems the best in that price bracket sadly. He looked good last game so hoping he at least features in both games in the double.

I have smalling but you have lingard, DDG and Kaku so no more UTD.

There's not many options tbf. Either double Lei (like you've done), double Burn or single game week player like Mustafi/monreal who then have a double in 37.

Leicester are playing southampton though and they are terrible.

Unfortunately no FH left so have to navigate tricky GW34 and 35. Will WC36 and BB37. Thinking if I should TC34 or leave it late till GW34 when Salah or Kane will fight it out for Golden Boot.

Willian is at the frontier between two FPL rules and I'm stuck there

    rule 1: form over fixtures
    rule 2: selecte nailed players

Surely Willian's formcan't be ignored. He's been Chelsea's biggest threat over the last month.
In the meantime, clearly rotation is a concern ..

I haven't watched Scoutcast yet will listen Friday when it comes out as a podcast. This may have been discussed.

For the DGW 34 I cannot afford my prefered front 3 of Vardy-Kane-Kaku without major surgery.

    I'm looking at Kaku-Kane-Barnes/Kane-Vardy-Barnes.
Is Lukaku worth the extra over Vardy?. They both have 1 real tasty fixture. Utd v Wba - Lei v Southampton.

    Hows my WCT?

    DDG, Ryan
    Christensen, Chilwell, Lowton, Taworski, Vertongen
    Salah, Mahrez, Lingard, Willian, Gross
    Kane, Auba, Barnes

Enough for Auba -> Lukaku Next GW

    WC team....

    De Gea | Ryan
    Christensen | Vertonghen | Smalling | Chilwell | Simpson
    Salah | Mahrez | Willian | Groß | Gudmundsson
    Kane | Auba | Barnes

Will transfer Auba —> Lukaku next week.

    - What are your thoughts?
    - Should I make a downgrade in order to play Son over Willian?
    - Is my midfield too weak?

    this week start with

    A) Chilwell+Morgan (double Leicester)
    B) Morgan+Robertson (Liverpool v Everton can be dangerous)

    ?

If you could chose only one from below for dgw34 who would it be and why ?

    A) Sanchez (WBA bou)

    B) Hazard (sot bur)

    C) Kane (MCI bha)

C as you’ll want him from GW36 anyways.

      If chasing then probably A.

Was thinking Ryan. But may go DDG now Pep indicated heavy rotation (I'm sure I read that on here). Mourhino will also park the bus big team in order for Man city not to win the league against them.
