Gameweek 14 of the Fantasy Premier League season saw the quarter-finalists in the Fantasy Football Scout Cup III, sponsored by Paddy Power, battle it out for a place in the cash-rich semi-finals. Also at stake this week was of course another free £25 bet courtesy of our sponsors. Here is how it played out…

1 – tippman 65 – 62 User

2 – DRP 70 – 61 DollyDaisy

3 – The Von 71 – 59 DaFoe22

4 – gooner dave 75 – 56 sandgrounder

The first, and closest, tie of the round was the lowest-scoring, as tippman edged out User with the only winning score below 70. Despite reaching the semi-finals, tippman is in somewhat of a bad run, having got his fifth consecutive red arrow. He now finds himself as the lowest-ranked manager left in the competition.

Then we had last week’s top-scorer, DollyDaisy, go the same way as all previous top-scorers, out of the competition. A late Tim Cahill revival wasn’t anywhere near enough to recover the damage done the day before by Carlos Tevez. His exit paves the way for 2,682nd in the world (and highest-ranked manager remaining) DRP to reach the final four.

Next up was The Von‘s comfortable 71 – 59 victory over DaFoe22. After his first two drops in the rankings in the last two weeks, The Von pulled out a green arrow, largely thanks to Rafael Van der Vaart and Kevin Davies.

Bringing up the rear was gooner dave‘s trashing of sandgrounder 75 – 56, which was the widest margin of victory and the highest aggregate scoring tie of the round. With an impressive score of 75, gooner dave picks up a free £25 bet courtesy of Paddy Power. Sandgrounder also picks up the unfortunate award of the lowest-score of the round.

So that’s our final four, and four nationalities are represented. Flying the flag for England is The Von, tippman is the last remaining Irishman, DRP hails from India and gooner dave is out in Germany.

I’m sure you’ll join me in congratulating the big four on their achievement, and commiserating the four leaving the competition at this stage. I’ll bring you news of the draw for the semi-finals on Thursday, which will take place in gameweek 15. And remember, a win next week guarantees you a free £100 Paddy Power bet.

GRR... spent the last couple hours hunting down team news regarding tonight's CL games just to miscalculate the time zone difference and miss out on the deadline completely. EPIC FAIL! Leaving me with Alex, VDV, Navarro and Coutinho on my squad who are injured, Nani who is a doubt and Nasri on the bench. I think I've officially quit the CL game for this season...

      I took a 10 point hit 😮
      Noboa to Bale
      Schweinsteiger to VDV
      Zhirkov to Kakuta (c)
      Müller to Ibrahimović
      Marinos to Fábio Coentrão
      Cicinho to Ivanović
I know some of those may not play but you have to get the dead wood out and I had collected an awful lot. I think VDV will play and Bremen have lots of injuries they are taking amateurs to play in the game. 5-0 Spurs then.

Exactly, or VDV for me probably if he plays. Bremen called up 5 amateurs from their second team to drive with them to London.

Naldo, Claudio Pizarro, Mikael Silvestre, Tim Borowski, Sebastian Boenisch, Wesley, Marko Arnautovic , Petri Pasanen,Torsten Frings are all out apparently.

Similar to me. Got to play one of Foley, Williamson or Konchesky.

Williamson probably will be banned for 4 games so that leaves Foley and Konchesky.

I fancy Spurs to knock a few past Liverpool at the Lane so that just leaves Foley.

Wolves are horrible defensively and no clean sheets all season. But, the law of averages says they will keep a cleanie at some point, and Sunderland don't like travelling (unless it's to Stamford Bridge) so that looks like the best hope of some defensive returns.

Last time I deliberately played Foley he scored and got me 7 pts, if that's any consolation?

The "sunderland don't like travelling" is a little overused i think....beat chelsea, got draes against spurs and liverpool and also a draw against wigan after playing most of game with 10 men. Away form is much improved. I reckon Konchesky is best bet of that lot...espec with wolves missing henry and Berra....

Why do you want another apology?

Anyone with any sense would agree with most of what he had to say in his outburst.

At the time, players like Carrick (the way he was playing) were not United standard. He basically said what every fan was saying.

Hell yeah! As he said he was gonna apologize to the fans too which he hasn't yet. Doesn't matter if he was right to do what he did but the fans were definitely affected by it and a simple apology wud have gone a long way to bridge the gap between him and fans. As for me I couldn't care less about what happens with him as his unwillingness to make that apology clearly shows his arrogance and he still is holding something bak,

I brought Bardsley IN for Elmo this week, won't be playing him mind, but thought I would make the move most of us have to make before his value spirals downwards. I would advise the same, Alex could keep getting games based on him turning out last weekend despite needing surgery

A table like that after only 14 games might just mean that some teams have had tougher referees or played certain teams though. And it most certainly doesn't make a team dirty to get many bookings imo.

Can't help but smile a little though, good old Arsenal.

To be fair, the majority of fouls that Arsenal make aren't 'dirty' ones. Rather professional fouls to prevent sides counter attacking against them. It's one of the drawbacks of Song's new attacking role in the side. When he, Sagna and Clichy all push up together Arsenal are very much exposed on the counter attack and often the best way to stop the opposition breaking is through fouling them.

Although Fabregas' tackle against Wolves was about as malicious as you'll see all season... Arsenal's squad is full of petulance, Fabregas, Nasri and RVP are prime example.

              I don't underestimate Blackpool whatsoever.

They COULD score another 5 goals, just the same as they probably won't. I can't be sure they will just like you can't be so sure they won't do it again this entire season.

Yes, but why Foley? I'm playing him because I have little choice, but you....?

Is there no one else or would you only have £3.9 left over after the Elmander move.

Hell, play Elmo. Probably get more in a 5 minute cameo at the end than Foley will get in 90 mins!

        I'd play Coleman.

Sometimes you get lucky with a guy like Coleman and he only plays for an hour, and no goals have been scored against his team so he gets the cleanie points. And then, when he comes off, his team concedes a late goal.

If he doesn't play then Jara comes off your bench, innit.

Bit late here, but just been looking at stats... Why on earth hasn't Wayne Rooney been nominated for ballon d'or?

No he's not the best player in the world, yes he had a poor world cup but so did Crisitano Ronaldo who is amongst the best.

Miroslav Klose who scored 6 goals in 38 appearances all season, was nominated ahead of Wayne who got 34 in 44. Samuel Eto'o scored 15 in 47 and was alo nominated.

He's not close to being the best, yet, but he still deserved a nomination.

It's European footballer of the year, not European footballer of the year + whatever you have done in the past.

That being said, Rooney doesn't deserve to win it, but Soup is simply saying he should have been nominated at least.

Eto'o won the champions league, the italian cup and the serie a this year. He then went to the world cup, got played in his less favoured position and still showed himself to be a superior footballer to Wayne Rooney.

Well is the Ballon d'Or for the 09/10 season or the calendar year 2010?

Because he only really well played for 3 months of 2010. (Although those 3 months probably should have done enough to get a nomination.)

But anyways, Sneijder has the Ballon d'Or hands down.

He had a decent domestic season, but in the big games (i.e. CL vs Bayern, and in the World Cup) he embarrassed himself.

That said, he probably should have been included, but it's not that much of a surprise that he wasn't. Milito's omission is scandalous, Rooney's isn't even close to that.

I can think of a couple of reasons. Most importantly the people making those lists are mugs.

Secondly Rooney has had PLENTY of nomination and awards that he has never deserved even slightly, so perhaps somebody wanted to balance things out.

I would probably have put him in that list myself, although he wouldn't really have ended up that high on the list in the end.

You've got to be kidding me.

Would you bet against Barca scoring eight away to West Ham? 🙂

And last season there were 7-2 wins etc in the Premiership as well, Chelsea won by huge numbers several times, and that was against fairly strong teams as well.

That the bottom teams of the Premiership are far stronger than the bottom teams of La Liga is one of the greatest, and most dubious, myths of modern football.

        Crazy to ditch Fabs.

I might be a Rovers fan, but even I doubt he'll be able to continue his current form. He goes missing in some matches, and we generally don't score too many.

In other news, Steve Bruce has been updating us about Titus Bramble knee problems. He said: “The problem with Titus’ cartilage means it looks like he’ll be out for about six weeks. That’s a big shame because he’s had a fantastic start to his Sunderland career.”

Heskey is injured silly. And getting him was a blessing in disguise. It allowed me to get Piquionne for his 9 points Vs Brum and then for his 8 points but only to be transferred out to Elmander this week to get 15 points. Great decision really.
