Fantasy Football Book Launch

We are delighted to announce the official launch of the Fantasy Football book ‘Wasting Your Wildcard‘.

Written by regular site contributor David Wardale and fully endorsed by Fantasy Football Scout, it will be out on Thursday, July 26, to plug the painful gap between the end of the World Cup and start of the 2018/19 Premier League season.

Subtitled ‘The Method and Madness of Fantasy Football’, the book is being published by Penguin’s respected sports imprint, Yellow Jersey Press, and is packed with hints and tips from some of the best Fantasy managers out there.

But it is as much about the people as the game, with stories of glory and despair, mini-league skulduggery and humiliating failure and the strange grip the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in particular has on managers from Australia to Zimbabwe and just about everywhere in between.

There are in-depth interviews with FPL champions and Fantasy-mad Saudi princes, a comprehensive look at the eternal conflict that is stats versus ‘the eye test’ and chapters on the history of the game, the all-conquering beast that is Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and what the future of Fantasy Football might look like.

There’s also a revealing section on our very own Mark, detailing the methods behind his successful approach to playing FPL.

Written by a fan for the fans, we think Wasting Your Wildcard will inform and entertain in equal measure, while grappling with the reasons behind why we, as supposedly grown-up men and women, cannot resist playing a game of footballing dress-up.

And to give you a taste of what you can expect, we’re planning to publish an exclusive extract for newsletter subscribers in the very near future.

SAVE £5 WHEN YOU PRE-ORDER WASTING YOUR WILDCARD WITH WATERSTONES.COM! Simply enter the discout code SCOUT18 at checkout and you can save a fiver – one third off the cover price.

I’ve been on the FFS team for about a week now and I’m beginning to look forward to the summer and next season. I received ideas from some of you already so I think it’s time to put something out to officially ask for your feedback!

I’m mostly asking from a community perspective: What do you like best about the community? What would you like to see improved? Are there tournaments you’d like to see? Do you use the ‘Sort by: Ranking’ option on articles? Is there an article that you’d like to write or you think we’re missing?

I’m also going to put some time into making sure the tools are working optimally. For example, I’ve always wanted to see the watchlist updated more often, and now I will make sure that happens. Are there tweaks to the tools you’d like to see?

This is also a call out to anyone interesting in being a moderator, as I’m going to grow the moderator team slowly over the summer. If you’d like to be considered, please contact me: Geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Feel free to email me with any comments, concerns, or ideas!

I'd like to see a members only forum, where we can discuss stats from the member's side 🙂

Don't do it!! The site does not need a split forum. Why? If you do then Members will likely not post here. I am not a member by the way but quite like the site and view it frequently. The reason I am not a member by the way is that I don't want yet more information! What is needed is an Edit for comments (for a short period only) and a Delete option - which then hides the comment so that the replies stay. Another requirement is for all external links to open in new tabs. I can give you more if you want, let me know.

        This x1000

It’s a bit frustrating to want to discuss the stats, in particular the big numbers article but also wanting to respect the website and not take away from possible revenue.

Perhaps an option would be to only open the comments section of Members articles to Members only and have it hidden from regular view like the article itself is?

Regular posters could still comment on the previous article posted.

I'd like if the season-ticker team home/away ratings could have stayed up for a little longer.
Was going to copy down end of the season numbers but gone.

Can we get the stats tables in the members area working properly on an iPad in Safari, please? Can't sort personal stat tables more than once. Predefined stats tables can't be sorted at all.

The reply fail UX issue needs to be addressed once and for all. Happens far too often for it to be user error.

Would be good if this was sorted, only started happening a few weeks ago for me if it helps. After the first sorting, it comes up with a box saying 'Drag to reorder stats' whenever the measure you want to sort by is pressed.

I used to like the match history between sides on the ticker - used to come up when you hovered over the fixture.

Was a great addition - eg looking at Lei and Spurs history as well as Lei Ars history would have screamed goals to those looking.

This is a little thing but I am a member of other sites (not FF related) where if you have paid to support the site in the past you get a visual indicator to say that you have done so, even if you haven't renewed for a particular season.

At the moment it's just divided into members and non-members and it's hard to tell at a glance whether someone is a long-term contributor to the site or brand new.

Also, yes, it would be great to have BF's suggestion of members' forums. There are too many reposted RMTs and 'LOL @s' on the boards and on match days it's not even worth coming on here, which is a shame. I appreciate that this might create a two-tier system but actually the quality chat is probably what I want to pay for most. I haven't really used the stats and RMT much this season in my first year of membership.

None of this is to say that I won't be renewing my membership in 18-19 - I will, but it will be for support/thanks rather than much else to be honest.

Actually, on reflection, if we had the little indicator I wouldn't need or want members' forums. It would just be a little tool to help me to filter through the volume of material on the boards on my own.

Yeah I think these problems can be solved in the comment section. A way of placing emphasis on quality content from us amateur posters. Such an emphasis would even encourage quality posts. Check out the link I shared above for Mark's take. I'm a little disappointed it hasn't already been implemented. I shaln't be signing up again unless we get some positive change around there comment section. I waste too much of my life trying to be noticed in rapidly disappearing pages 😀 Even HTs are fleeting...

aww some of us notice you D.

              Not me, obviously :p

But yeah, posts and HTs are way too transient and it would be nice to have a way of being noticed longer than an hour or two for significant contributions. Some of the more thoughtful HTs and community posts take an age to write and edit.

I hadn't considered the visual indicator to indicate past support. I'll add that to the to be considered list.

The RMTs, LOLs, goal shouting, etc is a big priority. We're looking at ways of sorting comments and giving votes more prominence so that the important content gets filtered from the stuff people don't want to read. I feel the same way on this and I think most people do so this is high on my list of things to get worked out

Thanks Geoff. Glad it's a possible option. I think it would create a helpful middle ground between members and non-members and it would help people that don't want to or can't justify year-on-year membership to feel that they carry a little more weight in the community.

Should be able to flag posts as SPAM and after a certain amount it just gets deleted, will help moderating at busy times.

Also an indication of how experienced members are with some sort of badge next to their name, hard to know what people are worth listening to a lot of the time.

Last but not least, the reply format needs looking at, along with being able to edit posts, or even delete?

Definitely feel free to use the flag feature, for any reason. If you see a good post or spam, use it and let us know!

I'll look into the other two things. Valid points

I was virtually writing out how one of reasons I've stopped posting over past two (maybe three) seasons, is the more popular this site has become, (& sadly stating obvious) the more relevant posts get lost. All I've done over that period since is look at hot topics only, but some insightful posts that aren't 'green' get completely lost due to amount of (let's be honest) spam... Again this is main contributing factor I stopped being regular pposted for past few years.... It's cool it's being looked into

We are well aware that Ragabolly has a code which can perdict your OR rank, as well as rank movements in case of a player scoring, or a player getting a CS etc.
Can we have these as permanent features on FFS.
Can this be integrated into the side-bar maybe??

Another small point is a floating Fixture Ticker. Many time while answering questions and RMTs in the comments section, one need to look up the upcoming fixtures. It would be convenient not having to scroll all the way up. Just a collapsed fixture ticker moving along as you scroll, which pops out when clicked upon.

Sorry if that sounds like "Asking for too much" 😉

Please keep community team tournament for next season and not break up the teams though the initial bidding was good fun! There could be new teams added oc and perhaps transfers for teams who have lost team members?

        Posting to gauge peoples thoughts

        - Ignore/mute function

        - Some kind of progression system or just a display of achievements. Examples could be:

        Post counts
        Number of seasons active
        Number of hot topics
        Number of upvotes
        Community articles published
Maybe have rank names for reaching a certain number of posts or seasons active - "Casual", "Veteran", "Differential", "Big hitter"

Maybe number of posts with upvotes rather than total upvotes as people could try to manipulate that by doing something Stanville-esque

I love it Andy. A community 'score' based on number of posts as a baseline with significant multipliers based on the other factors e.g. an upvote = post x5, a HTs = post x50 etc and the other things would encourage quality posting as well as quantity.

Yeah - I like the "glory roll" idea - you could have lots of different icons next to user names, an expansion of the "mini scout" icons displayed for members and the green icon displayed for mods. Different icons could be handed out for all sorts of things, i.e. running community tournaments, winning FFS cups, certain number of HTs, frequent posters, FPL winner, FPL top 1k finishes, etc etc.

I don't like the ignore/mute idea. Communicating via text leads to miscommunications, and people can hastily and liberally apply the mute button, missing out on part of the community. We're all in this together!

Elevating quality posts to the top will solve this anyway. We just need to shift the emphasis towards quality (as judged by the community and mods).

Down votes and mute is a little bit mean-spirited and negative IMO. It doesn't exactly cultivate a sense of community.

Plus down votes already exist on here. Every insult I get gets up-voted dozens of times, which is the same thing.

The watchlist should be a standard top 10 players in each position i think. Sometimes there's less than 10 sometimes 15 or so.
post counts to spot the degens, or some kind of level badge that suggests how much someone contributes like the members badge.

Articles need a revamp imo. I don't think anyone really reads most of them they just jump straight to the comments which shows how good the community is but articles should be livelier/more interesting. the preamble is the only one i read atm.

Oh... and bring back the old smilies!

Standardizing the watchlist is an easy one to do and sounds good to me. 10 per position could work, and if more are added an explanation of why more than 10 are needed

Need to upgrade RMT tool imo:

        A) I want to be able to see scores if I plan to bench some other player then what RMT suggests.

        B) Searching for players by their name instead of going to every team & position.

        Two things.

First, an indicator next to username to show rank and/or length of FFS membership. This is so you can decide whether the post is a troll or trusted advice.

Secondly, I would encourage you to offer a premium membership or paid consulting/advice from one of the “experts”. FFS could take a commission/fee for creating the marketplace. For example, someone may have GBP 1,000 riding on Mini-leagues and may be willing to pay GBP 20-30 for a 1 hour consulting session on the team / chip strategy / block rival differentials. Equally an “expert”, say Top 50 HOF, may have time and could offer his expertise for GBP 20-30 / hour.

This might sound elitist but it needn't. Getting credits for upvotes would mean that a complete newbie could get off the ground very quickly with some sensible advice or accurate team news.

I'd never show rank as I don't want rivals knowing who I am following my moves so forcing people to put up their rank is a big no no and not really fair. People should have the choice. They will lose posters if they go this way

Plus a lot of people may be brilliant at the game but only just joined here. Not everyone uses FFS so categorizing them as noobs and saying their advice is bad because they haven't been here long is a rediculous and a bit demeaning. Who are FFS to decide on someones level of expertise. I like Geoffs enthusiasm and willingness to change but these ideas need to be dropped.

Post count is the best way to go if anything . I like this idea.

The consulting one is bad also. Fpl is already turning into a circus with the likes of crellin making cash for spreadsheets and Jay having a program coming up without actually winning anything. What is an fpl ' expert ' exactly anyway. Not trying to shoot you down but these ideas are everything I don't like about the game

I don't quite follow. You say "Plus a lot of people may be brilliant at the game but only just joined here. Not everyone uses FFS so categorizing them as noobs and saying their advice is bad because they haven't been here long"
Then on the other hand you say "Post count is the best way to go if anything..."

If you have to go with any of the 3 I think post count is the best way forward. It's only specific to this . As opposed to length of membership. Id rather have ' 500' posts than ' on ffs for 1 season'. I've been around in one form or another on here since day 1 myself so doesn't directly apply to me

Rank is simply a bad idea I don't even join the cups because they show rank publically.

Haha yeah got you, my OR for the past 3 seasons shall we say hasn't been exactly brilliant so can see how people wrongly or rightly could draw conclusions based solely on that but still would be nice to have it on show?I'm probably in the minority as I would just ignore OR anyway and take their advice on face value...

Me too mate. People play for different reasons . I know folk who won thousands with a pretty average rank. I'd never decide If I value a players advice on their rank. I'm more inclined to listen to someone who watches a certain player weekly as a supporter of that team

Increased personalisation perhaps (leading on from Red Arrows proposal)?

When I see advice, I'd like to see the user's pedigree/credentials at a glance to identify if they're: New, A mod, Regular poster, Contributor, Have posted less than 1000 posts....etc, you get my drift.

I use sort by rating all the time but unfortunately the way people vote doesn't always reflect the quality of posts. Perhaps there could be another way to filter 'quality content' where such posts can be boosted above the occasional one liner that gets a lot of votes.

And just to push the boat right out.
The ability to enhance social interaction on site. Perhaps we can 'follow' certain posters and 'unfollow' others. Maybe there could be a way to create 'friend networks' where you can message each other. Almost turning it into a primitive social network.

Following would be nice. I reckon that could be done using the tag/sort/filter system once implemented.

Not such a fan of unfollowing (muting?) unless you simply mean to stop following someone you previously chose to 'follow'

Each PL team to be assigned it’s own FFS “correspondent” – someone who can keep an eye out specifically for that team in terms of information on fan forums, club twitter, players twitter, local press etc, and as they specialist they will learn where the best sources are. They could also post knowledgeable articles/HTs about the team on a regular basis, as well as field questions from the community via the forum or their own new FFS email address. They could receive free membership and an end-of-season booze-up as their payment.

I think the whole posting section needs a revamp.

Some ideas I had, When someone posts they should have to add a title, and on the page only the title appears unless you click a drop down. Also once questions have been answered you should be able to click ‘hide’ so that the post disappears.

On each page there should be a sticky with the commonly asked questions such as RMT and transfers opinions (only visible when you click a drop down besides the Title) This will keep them all in one space without clogging up every page.

I like the idea of having an icon to display your ‘credentials’
Also a ‘mark as spam option, so posts disappear after a certain amount of spam votes
And perhaps a report button, so you can report idiots.

One last one, Live correspondence, so when a match is Live one person is designated to posting ‘goal’ or whatever on the forum for that particular day or team or however you wish to categorise.

Just a few ideas. Love the way this place is heading, keep it up 🙂

I dont really know how without making it more forum based but i would like to see the comments section actually be related to the article rather than just a continuation of FPL RMTs / questions etc.

As a writer its sometimes disheartening to see your hardwork seemingly just ignored, don't get me wrong that's fine if you have no interest in the topic but then its very hard for the people who do have an interest to discuss it - the community article section does this much better - the comments are directed towards the actual article.

I also think its very off putting for new comers or just lurkers (im sure there are thousands) who simply dont want to talk/dont even understand why the comments seemingly make no sense in relation to the article and therefore dont bother, or do but see them lost in the ether very quickly.

In addition to this i think we simply NEED tagging in someway. Ie @d1sable (we discussed this maybe 5/6 years ago) - then i get an email or a notification.
I dont have the time anymore to spend all day on here scrolling comments but it would be nice on interact with people if i could simply be being notified - i could even flag a conversation im interested in and be kept abreast.

I think many of us more oldskoolers have taken to the realms of twitter for this reason, i can pick and choose my interactions more easily - i would prefer to do them on site and im sure many others would so i think anything FFS can do to bring people back to the site is a plus (for all parties) - the bottom line is the comments section right now is just a no go for me and i dont like that - i used to spend hours of my life here.

Agree on forum based. Most comment input is fleeting, repetitive and unrelated to content or conversation continuity. I don't know how that can change while also having the site new-article driven, but I've really started hating the overall format. Can't see myself bothering to comment much next season, and can ony imagine how frustrating it is for writers.

some great articles just bypassed by "player x or player y" posts. Come onto the site an hour or so after an article is posted and you can end up wading through pages & pages of posts looking for comments etc. about the articles.

Perhaps we ought to have two current comment streams in the general area.

One restricted to relevant comments on FFS articles, like the community articles.

And the other a continuous stream, independent of the FFS articles, for all other comments including RMTs. This one might need to be replaced by a new one each day or whenever the number of pages of comments gets too large.

So far, no upvotes, but I'm hoping for at least 10.

On a serious note, I do believe that there is a solution to the curt negative replies people like yourself get due to others' lack of imagination and lust for upvotes.

I'd just like something simple like the tick to remain in "Notify me of replies"
I find it a bit of a ballache to be clicking it everytime it should be a simple fix where cookies remember the setting?

Please can we add the chips into RMT tool, and then we can play around with playing our chips in different gamweeks and see which chip/transfer strategy is predicted to yield the most points.
In the last few gameweeks of this season the tool was not very useful because for example the bench boost chip wasn't in the game so if I was transferring in a player to play in the week when I was playing my bench boost, the tool may put him on my bench and therefore not really use his points as contributing to my score, when in reality I would definitely be getting them.
Also, with the free hit chip not being included I was transferring in players with DGW34 which resulted in me having a lot of blank players in GW35. When I transferred in these players my score for GW35 was going down by almost as much as my DGW34 score was going up, rendering these transfers useless, when in reality they gained me lots of points because of the free hit chip which could be played in GW35.

Lots of great stuff in here thanks all. Keep it coming 🙂

I'm going to make a list of all the ideas posted here and give it a think, and see what's possible. I'll then prioritize and get stuff started so hopefully we have some changes (big and small) ready for next season.

          Downvote button.

Like reddit, the down vote wouldn't be a "dislike" button, it would be a "this isn't relevant" button.

A way to be able to filter through what type of comments you want to see... maybe this can work by each post needing to select what type it is "rmt question," "chip strategy," "article related" so readers can easily find content/topics they desire

Some way to identify a commentors or posters 'prestige' or knowledge/experience level next to their user name other than membership

I also echo the suggestion having an area to discuss members stat. First year paid membership here and I'd love to discuss the numbers openly to get more out of them

Having notifications on the interface rather than through email may speed up and enhance interactions between people here

If you post a comment and check “Notify me of replies”, it’d be lovely if there’s a Notification button on the site, so if someone posts a comment below your post, to see those notifications there.

For example, just like it’s implemented at FB/Twitter/etc.

Email notifications are good but that what I tried to describe is even better.

Would it be possible to implement a 'key' or a 'legend' for the various comment smilies? I've searched for one but couldn't find it. At the moment I'm limited to the universal 🙂 and 🙁 but not sure how to do the more 'advanced' ones. Without the option to delete or edit posts, I'm not going to spam a ton of different punctuation combinations to try and find what works!

Or to have an additional window whilst writing:
              1) click on a button and see those smiles
              2) click on the same button and the opened window from 1) disappears

some sort of autoblocking of posts using the word "lol" on matchdays 🙂

I would like to have more vote polls. For example-we could have vote poll to give our predictions for the games of each gw or vote poll for the highest scorer of the gw.We could also have a vote poll about the differential of the gw like Jonty's post.

I'd prefer if the site restructured entirely. Only have comments on articles that actually relate to the articles and then have a separate 'forum' section for discussion.

At the moment so much discussion is repeated because it's impossible to find anything unless it's a hot topic. I'd prefer to have threads like any other forum. There can still be a RMT sub-section of the forum so people can still get opinions on their individual team.

it could work when we log in by an icon appearing by someone's grav/username if you add them as a favourite. would make their posts standout more when you're scrolling through posts.

Some of these have been mentioned but will duplicate just to cover it in one post.

            Season ticker -
Ability to export to excel was invaluable, flexibility to choose specific gameweeks as opposed to just a range to account for blank weeks would be useful. Previous results when hovering over a fixture was also useful.

Stats area - greater flexibility in looking at the data such as interrogating it based on minutes on the pitch with and without other players.
i.e. Kane’s performance when lamela on pitch v when Kane’s performance when lamela not on pitch (or for a certain mod to use to talk about his beloved dembele theory again...

Ugh, half my post has been removed from my comment (at the point where an emoji was used).

Can add that for a problem to be fixed.

No time to type it all again.

2nd half as comment in phones history..

Would also be good to have some trend analysis or visualisation. For example, studying Kane’s shots on target over a four week period might result in 20 shots and an average of 5.

However, if in sequence it is 10, 5,4,1 shots or alternatively 1,4,5,10 shots it might make a big difference if you wanted to buy him.

Remove the second logon for the stats area. I know it’s small thing but a it’s just a pain to login a second time when you have literally just logged on.

An improved method to share and discuss stats on the site. Whether this is via a members forum or the ability to mark a post for members only (like the data in a members only article) would be useful. As it is you can link to a table but the filters sometimes change between users and things just becomes confused. Another option is a screenshot of the members area data that only members can see?

Moderation - the current moderation seems misjudged and allows for spam and is one reason the comments section is unuseable.

A user can spam ‘lol@‘or ‘player x dead’ comments repeatedly and nothing happens. If someone is then rude to the idiot and tries to stop him then they get modded for bullying. It is this that has allowed the problem to develop as the morons realise they are effectively untouchable and can continue trolling with impunity.

Don’t want to rake over hot coals but this last point has been an issue for a while and has driven a lot of people to just leave or just not bothering to post anymore.

As for the double login for the Members area I know that's already been flagged and is being worked on. Should definitely be done for next season but I'll add it to my list to follow up on this week

            Hey Geoff.

Been reading through some of the suggestions, I largely agree with some posters views on the comments section. Tbh, it's a disaster during match days, the chat is mostly spam and the RMTs just clog up the general forums.

I use reddit quite a bit and the system is pretty flawless imo.

            The upvote/downvote system is brilliant.

Can sort threads by a number of different options

They implemented a feature recently whereby if someone writes 'thanks' under your comment, you get a number next to your name and this reflects your reputation as such.

Also users profiles are easily accessible, as is the upvote/downvote ratio.

I've been a member for 2/3seasons now but unless the forum sees a marked improvement this season, it's just not worth the money imo. Other sources of information are free and much more navigable. Too much good info is lost here and all I see to be scanning through are endless RMTs. Give these a separate thread, not the half winded attempt the mods do 4 or 5 times a season by setting up a RMT hot topic. Have a daily one and remove and RMT posted outside of this

Ultimetly people need to use the upvote feature more as this will help with your strategy of combating the problems people are mentioning. Maybe just designate a mod to up voting anything useful and we can follow this mod to what they are hulking

Finally there should be an inbox on the website, I never tick the reply box cause I hate getting emails saying 'someone replied to your comment'. It's very old fashioned.

Best of luck and enjoy the summer!!

I agree with your agreeing on lots of this stuff; we’ll see what’s possible and what I can get done quickly, and what will take time.

The matchday comments are in need of fixing so I’ll look at a few fixes over the next few weeks and try to get something done for next season. A long term one for sure. A separate thread for RMTs is an option, provided people use it and don’t revert to the normal comments section.

On the upvote feature, quite simply, yes. People need to use it a lot more often. I’m looking at ways of changing the voting system to make it easier and to make sorting by ranking easier; I think there’s lots that can be done here with a big impact.

Part of the mod recruitment I’m doing now will look at mod responsibilities and part of that will be increased voting and attention to how voting is happening from users. I’ve started this myself already and have encouraged a few others to do the same. Also, the voting should ideally help mods see what is relevant and what should become a hot topic.

As for the last one I’m not sure how easy updates or an inbox is but I’ll look into it. A few others have said they don't want to have to go offsite to see if they've had replies, so I'll dig into it

"Bookmarked" - we all say it, but an icon that is a little bookmark by the chain and the flag at the bottom of each post. These bookmarked posts are then saved in a list you can access that only you can see on your profile page.

Not sure if you're still reading this, but i think a great idea would be the ability for mods to pin a post/hot topic to the top of every page, with it moving to the top of each article's page as new pages are created. This way Hot topics remain for longer in discussion, and a RMT post could be permanently stickied to the top, giving posters no excuse not to post brainless RMTS on the rest of the page, clogging it up.

            1. In the Injuries and Bans tab, I would like to be able to sort the table by the Last Updated heading.
This used to be possible once.

It would be nice to look back and see how the actual scores of my players, and the scores of other players that I could have chosen instead, compare with their RMT forecasts.

            Great work this season, all.

On the Hall of Fame, would it be possible to make the teams clickable, rather than having to copy and paste their team id into your web browser manually?

I know how to do it, but if you want to see how the top managers in the world are performing, it's just a bit of a ball ache, that's all.

I think we should be able to block individual posters so we don't have to read some of the rubbish they spout. It would save moderators some bother as well.

You would probably be able to solve the issue of people wanting member only boards that way as well. There is nothing special about being a member or not but there are some people who always spout rubbish.

Each article serves the majority of posters just as a new platform to ask a generic question giving none of their own decision insight. Just endless"Mane to Sane? " with one or two replies one word replies. it's pretty empty content fuelled by confirmation bias.

I read the articles and then scroll through hoping to find a comment on what has been said. There aren't often too many! Sometimes I post a correction, as I did for the 2018/19 week 1 Arsenal lineup where the article was wrong. It just goes unacknowledged by the writer, and is lost in the piles of RMT template teams.

Last season 2017/18 i was a member as the extra stats looked really interesting. But i decided that i dont play the game in a way reliant on granular data about shots per minute etc, relying on my own understanding of tactics rather than statistics, so I didn't renew this 2018/19 season. I think the comment about members only threads to discuss the members only available statistics is sensible. After all you are paying for this extra information (so you don't need to collect it yourself) and so why would you want it openly shared through discussion?

I also didnt think the team rating system was accurate; as the article about it lays out.

We are now able to make Members Only Hot Topcs - they'll ramp up over the next few weeks.

The RMT-specific Community Articles did really well in the lead up to the season and we'll try to continue them. I would also suggest giving the Sort By Rating option a try; it's now possible to make that a default setting on your profile

When comments address the article some way to find them would be nice. Some people post quite thoughtful stuff which is why I read the site. Not sure how this would work in practice though.

Postings should have the poster's latest FPL rank displayed somewhere in the posting. This will help readers evaluate the "credibility" of the posting.

I think wanting to know a poster's 'credibility' is a valid worry - do they know what they're talking about and can I trust them? - but having their FPL rank posted beside their posts causes problems.

People with a high rank won't necessarily give good advice, just as people with a bad rank won't necessarily give bad advice! Particularly because there are many reasons for a bad rank, it would be frustrating to have a surprise bad rank and then your ideas not listened to.

Agree. No to ranks. but what if a running total of the number of upvotes ever received or something like that. Just makes it easier to spot the people who post good stuff. I guess there's a risk of it becoming a popularity contest at first but that'd fade like it did when upvotes first came in

Made saome summary what makes me win my cash ML:

          - played my WC later than my rivals (GW9)
          - at that WC picked right players like Salah and they did it a bit too late
          - players who got me much points (Salah, Hazard) picked right time
          - players who were nice diferentials (Daniels, Mariappa, Milivo, Fabian, Ayew)

those are the outcomes. posting your criteria that led you to those outcomes would be far more helpful. otherwise you are just saying "why I win: luck".

The thoughts behind the outcome are more important to people wanting to follow advice.

You can make subs throughout a GW in a kind of stick/twist scenario. Same with captain. Basically it rewards a strong squad and lots of planning so you have a captain option every matchday (particularly a strong one near the end of the GW in case it all goes wrong)

So WC is almost here and I thought it will be nice to see how everyone here think the group stage will end, this is my guess:

Group A - Very intersting Group as Uruguay seems to be the most quality team. as an FPL manager i just can see how Salah dont succeed to take Egypt to the next stage, also so Russia against Brazil and they were really bad.
          1.Urguay
          2.Egypt
          3.Russia
          4.Saudy arabia

Group B - not much in it, I think that spain is far more better then portugal.
          1.Spain
          2.Portugal
          3.Morocco
          4.Iran

Group C - aside from france and denmark I really dont know peru and australia but as far as i remmber south amrican teams have diffculty in tournamemnts outside from their mainland
          1.France
          2.Denmark
          3.Peru
          4.Australia

Group D - another intersting group. I think that Argentina morale are very low. saw them agianst spain and they were really bad. Iceland are very stubborn team, ask Croatia. they will do a lot of problem to argentina and Croatia, but have feeling that Croatia will take that.
          1.Croatia
          2.Argentina
          3.Iceland
          4.Nigeria

Group E - Brazil, Brazil, Brazil. Put Costa Rica last but the memory of them in WC 2014 when they won they group leaving Urugay, Italy and England behind are still in my mind. I would really like to here if someone know their quality.
          1.Brazil
          2.Switzerland
          3.Serbia
          4.Costa rica

Group F - very close competition on the second place.
          1.Germany
          2.Mexico
          3.Sweden
          4.South Korea

Group G- The war will be on the first place between England and Belgium but i think the later have more quality
          1.Belgium
          2.England
          3.Tunisia
          4.Panama

Group H - The most intersting group IMO. every team can beat each other but colombia win over france give them advantege for me.
          1.Colombia
          2.Senegal
          3.Poland
          4.Japan

TD;LR I would like to discuss about WC group stage. which gropu is the most intersting and why? who will be the winners of every group.

Some possible upsets in my opinion.

Swiss topping the group ahead of Brazil

Argentina not getting out the group. - Group D is the most interesting I think. Croatia team is packed with quality, Argentina have Messi but no 'team', Iceland have shown they're solid and Nigeria have some quality and are unpredictable

I'm sure the HOF rankings give more precedence to recent seasons rather than all time scores, this gives teams more leeway to move up and down the rankings rather than have it as a closed shop.

I think breaking the league goal scoring record while not being a striker (he might have played there this season but he never did before) and with just one penalty speaks of how great his season was. I would say it’s better than Suarez’s who is already a terrfic striker so goals were kinda expected from him.

Suarez didnt even take 1 penalty
He was also suspended for few games
And scored some really crazy goals
On the other hand Salah and Liverpool are playing CL final

Alonso nothing has changed since the season before. They seem to see it as a 5 man backline.
Arnie played 17 as striker and 15 elsewhere. Maybe

Arnie as a striker would actually be a good thing, absolutely no mid range strikers this year

How would this FPL season have been different if Firmino was a midfielder?

Double up with him and salah would have been near essential at times I guess. Would have meant many went cheap up top to allow big hitters in midfield. Or vardy would have been more popular for longer.

Mikel Arteta close to being announced Arsenal manager. Not quite Allegri.

Wages would be the issue probably.

Wenger was the highest paid in the league wasn’t he?

Thanks for the pre-order! Waterstones had already discounted it by £2, as it turns out, so that's why it's just the £3.

Was trying to put together the best dead team of the season gone by. Seems like a dead team could have won FPL this time by 32 points. Astonished to see that..

Below is the best possible dead team I could create.

          Dubravka - 53 (4.5)
          Azpi - 175 (6.5)
          Davies - 143 (5.5)
          Otamendi - 156 (5.5)
          Salah (c) - 303 * 2 (9)
          Sterling - 229 (8)
          Mahrez (vc) - 195 (8.5) + 16 points as Captain in GW 22 and 33
          Gross - 164 (5.5)
          Vardy - 183 (8.5)
          Firmino - 181 (8.5)

          De Gea - 135 (5.5)
          J. Ayew - 32 (5)
          Robertson - 39 (5)
          Tomkins - 34 (4.5)

          Total - 2544 (100)

          Callouts:
          1. Dubravka wasn't on the game before GW 1. Having De Gea + Fabianski reduces the total by 8-9 points
          2. Triple Captain in GW 1 increases another 11 points

I feel there is scope to redistribute the funds across defense and the bench and optimize it further. Has anybody got to a better one?

It is available on Amazon in India, but not as a pre-order (no, I don't know why either). So you can get it on the day of publication (July 26). Cheers.
