The ScoutCast – Episode 262 – Retrospective

The latest ScoutCast brings the curtain down on another Fantasy season as we take the opportunity to navel-gaze and conduct a full retrospective.

Recent new signing David makes his debut, while Granville is a late arrival to join myself, Jonty, Andy and Az to form a six-strong crew.

We start by appraising Gameweek 38 to report back on a dramatic final day at the top of the Fantasy Premier League. We then take the lead from your final round of community questions.

Our best and worst decisions, our most disappointing and inspiring signings and early targets for next season are all revealed. We even consider the lessons learned to offer advice on cracking the top ranks – for what it’s worth.

Then, after another season of ScoutCasts, we pick out our personal on-air highlights.

We thank you in advance for sticking through this, our longest ever episode, and for listening over the last nine months.

Next season we edge towards 300 and finally reach the Last of the Summer Wine target. Then we all roll down a hill in a bathtub and off into the sunset. See you soon.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

2 managerial changes seemingly set to be confirmed soon.

    Manuel Pellegrini -> West Ham
    Mikel Arteta -> Arsenal

What affect does this have on FPL?

I would like to see how Cresswell is priced, I think he could be a good 5m pick. Arnautovic is always going to be a good pick too.

As for Arteta, we don't know much about him. Having spent a season with Pep, I'd imagine he would like to emulate an attacking style of play. I guess Aubameyang will be a popular pick. Not sure about the rest.

If he goes four at the back, they can't both play. Unless one is played out of place as left-mid

Doesn't change much for me right now.

I'm not sure Pellegrini will make West Ham players more attractive.

I don't know much about Arteta as a manager, so hard to comment on that one.

Pretty in the dark. No proper management experience for Arteta leaves us just with Aubameyang having an incredible strike rate for Arsenal.

West Ham are moments from rioting every week...could go very sour very quickly...

If Pellegrini goes to West Ham they will spend much of the season fighting relegation - and deservedly so due to their lack of cohesive, consistent strategy.

West Ham needs to rediscover what it wants from its style of play and realistic achievements. Pellegrini is the killer of goals. The difference between his style and Hughes' at Southampton is huge. For me his appointment would make West Ham a no go zone until he can prove otherwise.

Arteta to Arsenal is unknown but as long as he picks and sticks with a strong XI then I'm happy.

I was initially quite pleased (as a WHU fan) to be linked with managers who have actually won something - such as Pellegrini, but I'm inclined to agree. He is 64 and is not the kind of manager to be at the forefront of a new strategy or be dynamic.
Fans are incredibly frustrated at the lack of strategy or cohesion - but realistically it will take a board/ownership change to achieve that. If they are staying, Benitez would be a better pick in any case. I'm still surprised that Moyes wasn't offered the job - but it sounds like Sullivan started to interview other candidates behind his back in typical Sullivan style.

FPL wise - I can't remember the manager's style too well, but I don't it changes who are the good and bad picks at West Ham greatly, unless signings change anything and as a frustrated fan who saw our only signing as Jordan Hugill last time - I won't get too excited!

Pellegrini makes West Ham attackers attractive. He plays possession based full on football, 4222, Arnie I assume will stay as a striker. Will be the making of lanzini I feel. Much like he did with santi carzorla and Isco just to make a couple. He loves those types of players out side to drift inside, with coming from full backs pushing up. Defence will be forgotten about but attack will be interesting.

    PL Answer Smash Quiz

An “answer smash” is when the end of one answer combines with the start of a second answer to give one answer.

For example, if I said “This website, the remote interior of Australia”, the answer would be “Fantasy Football Scoutback”, as this website is Fantasy Football Scout, the remote interior of Australia is the Outback, and “out” links the two.

So, what are the answers to these 20 clues……….

    1) Arsenal player, runs Germany
    2) Bournemouth player, gambling hotspot
    3) Brighton player, big dog with a large muzzle
    4) Burnley player, is never going to give you up
    5) Chelsea player, breaks up the Beatles
    6) Palace player, invites you to touch their bum
    7) Everton player, minced beef and mashed potato
    8) Huddersfield player, white wine variety
    9) Leicester player, long rubber footwear
    10) Liverpool player, Farrelly Brothers film
    11) Man City player, Surrey racecourse
    12) Man Utd player, London Championship ground
    13) Newcastle player, married a Kardashian
    14) Southampton player, Toy Story 2 character
    15) Stoke player, played by Harrison Ford
    16) Swansea player, BBC alpine racing highlights
    17) Spurs player, a main ingredient in Harry and Meghan’s wedding cake
    18) Watford player, main US sport
    19) West Brom player, an Extreme song
    20) West Ham player, check out the hook while the DJ revolves it

    Good luck! πŸ™‚
