Before last season we had a Fantasy game for European Cup qualifications made by one of our members. I really enjoyed it so have decided to run a Fantasy game for pre-World Cup 2018 friendlies for anyone interested.
I think it will help us get to know some teams and players who will play in Russia and gives us some Fantasy distraction until the World Cup gets underway.
Every team playing at the tournament will be trying to find their best tactics and players for the tournament. For us Fantasy managers it’s an ideal time to look at players that we can pick for the World Cup but I think this game will also hopefully be fairly competitive.
To play the game game simply pick eleven players every Gameweek (there will be eight in total) and post your team as a comment. Every Gameweek you can pick an entirely new team, meaning that transfers aren’t necessary. I will count points after every Gameweek and post scores and rankings. That’s it!
Rules
The rules are very similar to Fantasy Premier Leagie (with some small differences to make it easier and faster for me to count points). There is no budget, no bonus points, no chips, and no captain. Simply pick your XI by posting: player name, position, and nationality under the article.
- Maximum of three players from each team
- One formation for every manager: one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards.
- Each day with a minimum of four relevant friendly games will be a Gameweek. A relevant game counts as a game with a World Cup team playing. Before every Gameweek I will post all the games that we can pick players from. I will also do this after ever Gameweek summary.
- To make sure you pick all starters you can wait for lineups, or post in advance of the the first game. You do not need to pick your whole squad before the first game of the Gameweek. You do not have to pick your whole team at once! But after a game starts, you cannot choose players from that game any longer. Simply reply to your first comment with the players from subsequent games you want to include. If you go over the 3-4-3 limit, only the first players selected for that position will count towards your score.
- All data (eg. scorers and assisters) will come from flashscore.com to make it clear and fair. If a player is listed as a defender on flashscore (click a player name to check details) he will count as a defender, so make sure you check your players positions on flashscore.com before posting.
Points per action
Goal – Goalkeeper/Defender- 6, Midfielder – 5, Forward – 4
Assist – All – 3
Clean Sheet – Goalkeeper/Defender – 4
Penalty stopped – Goalkeeper – 5 (doesn’t matter if the goalkeeper saves or penalty taker missed)
Penalty missed – All positions – 2
Red card – All positions – 3 (no negative points for yellow card)
Own goal – All positions – 2
*No points for playing 60 minutes, cameos etc. To get Clean Sheet points a player just needs to start the game (even if he is subbed after one minute, he is eligible).

Thanks for this, it sounds like a really good idea.
I'll be playing. The Eliteserien Fantasy game is off for 2 weeks right now too so it fills that void nicely 🙂
