Of the 3 matches, Germany and Brazil play on the same day on two occasions. Of the 2, I would prefer to captain a Brazilian attacker than a German due to better attacking prowess and comparatively easier fixtures. So is it advisable to spend as much as 9.5 to get someone like Werner or Mueller when I would not captain them?

I suggest going with only one player from those two teams. The best one.

Is Pavard nailed on? Sidibe tests went well. Definitely not a starter on saturday, but what abouth Gm. 2? Dont want to have Pavard for just one game. Any additional news?

No, but I'm ready to risk it. There's a chance Sidibe is rested for another game or Pavard has another good performance and keeps his spot.

Besides, they're less likely to keep a CS in the 2nd game.

      I wouldn't worry about starting 4.5m mids unless you're on a BB.

El Kaabi? Maybe, if the rest of your team is godly.

Have decided to use maximum captain in semis and bench boost in finals. Here's why:

The value of these chips are seriously undermined by the ability to make substitution and captain changes within a game week (since you can sub out all the 1 or 2 pointers before the final day of matches as well as have several bites at the captain pick). It thus seems to me that these chips are most valuable when you have limited ability to sub players and change captain. In the semis and finals you only have 1 chance to sub/ change captain.. so I think these chips are maximised then.

I'd play the maximum captain in the semis because it may be hard to get a playing 15 after quarter final teams are eliminated. However, because the final also includes the third place playoff, all players who play in the semis would also arguably play in the last gw (controlling for injuries, suspensions and rotation). We can thus use the generous 5 free transfers to ensure we have a playing 15 for the bench boost in the last week.

Agree completely. Using chips/wildcard in the group stage is bonkers.

      1. abraham22
        • 11 Years

Agree on the chips. Wildcard I intend to use before the gw3... Plug in players from teams with must win games.. and then change them out with the unlimited transfers before Round of 16.

Said this yesterday - nobody was with me. Maybe I didn't explain it as well as you!

The only issue is potential inability to afford 15 playing players from the final/3ppo, but then I was thinking that a whole host of defenders from the final and differential attackers from the 3ppo shouldn't be too hard.

      1. abraham22
        • 11 Years
        7 years, 6 months ago

That's a fair point. Though I think the extra 5m budget would be handy. Besides assuming you would play 7 attackers anyway without the bench boost, what you are really trying to afford is 1 keeper, 2 defenders and 1 attacker for the bench boost. In any case, I would've assumed even those not playing the bench boost would want a decent bench since you can make substitutions between the semis and between the third place and finals.

Throughout planning has comedown to A or B. On A as think Mbappe could do well and doubt over Jesus sharing gametime with Firmino as well as lack of scoring form by Müeller whereas Coutinho scored in last friendly and looks in form in a very attacking team but what do you think?

    A Mbappe Coutinho
    B Jesus Müeller

Why is everyone so sure Trippier will start, especially all games, given that Southgate has repeatedly strongly hinted at giving T. A. Arnold a chance? Now, granted, this could mean letting him play for 20 minutes each game, or have him start against Belgium given 2 wins in GW1 and GW2. But it could also mean benching Trippier on one of the easy games.

I agree. Would not surprise me at all to see TAA start the 2nd game vs Panama.

5.5 too expensive for an uncertain player, no? and not like England are sure to keep clean sheets in any of the 3 games really, given their usual tendencies

He will start the first game for sure, Southgate will want to start off with his strongest possible team. TAA is good but I think Trippiers experience will get him the nod.

Best bet is to not put (C) on Aldawsari or some other cheap Russia/Saudi players right?

He will need to score 2 goals at least to keep (C) on him, with 1 goal surely we will switch to other players.

He can get send off and ruin our better captaincy options.

Think I'm done. What do you think..?

    Muslera
    Mendy Danilo Godin Meunier
    Mueller Belhanda Al Dawsari
    Cavani Lukaku Jesus

    Courtios Trippier J Rod Sanchez

Should I dump Mendy for the cheap french guy and try to upgrade Belhanda?
    Do I really need Muller..?
