Fantasy managers are keeping faith with several Premier League-based players in the lunchtime encounter between Denmark and Australia.

Christian Eriksen (£9.0m), who registered an assist in the Danes’ 1-0 win over Peru last Saturday, is the most-owned player on show: 9.5% of McDonald’s FIFA managers have the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder in their squads.

Eriksen’s assist potential was evident in that opening-match victory: the Spurs man fired in 11 crosses, delivered seven corner-kicks and created three chances for his team-mates in an admittedly fortuitous success over the unlucky Peruvians.

Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) excelled in that match, making six saves on his way to a clean-sheet. The Leicester City goalkeeper’s ownership has jumped a couple of percentage points as a result and now stands at 7.5 %.

Andreas Christensen‘s (£5.0m) ownership has also increased after that shut-out, with the Chelsea defender now selected by 4.3% of Fantasy managers.

For Australia, Mathew Ryan‘s (£4.5m) budget price tag and guaranteed minutes have persuaded 1.9% of McDonald’s FIFA managers to invest in the Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper: Ryan is the most-owned Australian player as a result.

With ten penalties being awarded in the World Cup so far – the tournament record is 18 – Fantasy managers are wisely looking towards those players on spot-kick duties for a reliable source of points.

Mile Jedinak (£6.0m) scored from the spot in the Socceroos’ 2-1 defeat to France and his ownership has increased to 1.6% as a consequence: previously, no Australian midfielder or forward had broken the 1% mark. Jedinak’s penalty was, in fact, the only shot on target Australia had in that loss to the French.

Australia’s team is unchanged, while Lasse Schone for the injured William Kvist is Denmark’s only alteration.

Australia XI (4-2-3-1): Ryan; Risdon, Sainsbury, Milligan, Behich; Jedinak, Mooy; Leckie, Kruse; Rogic, Nabbout
Denmark XI (4-2-3-1): Schmeichel; Dalsgaard, Kjaer, Christensen, Larsen; Schone, Delaney; Eriksen, Poulsen, Sisto; Jorgensen

Surely for the vast majority it's about winning mini-leagues, most people won't be high enough to care about winning the Kia.

3 more days with many having Brazil against Costa Rica, Lukaku/Kane and JRod to fall onto. Easily worth the risk imo.

But the thing is, I don't think Lukaku or Kane is going to get a brace again. They're likely to score, but I wouldn't trust them enough to get 2 to switch captaincy. James too much of an unknown given the recent injury. Not worth the stress to leave it to last.

On my case, as an example, I'm not so sure. Got Coutinho, Lukaku and Mojica coming. I need:
      A) Coutinho goal + something else (at least assist or another goal) - doubtful vs. Costa Rica with Keylor in goal and Neymar crazy to leave a mark
      B) Another Lukaku brace: I know it's Tunisia, but they defended well against England, and Lukaku already got a brace. Unsure.
      C) Mojica doing a clean sheet + assist or goal vs Poland. Extremely unlikely.

If I had Kane vs. Panama, or JRod, I might consider it. Like this it is doubtful for me.

They are. 😀 Both Mendy and Sidibe played vs Spartak u19 this week that France barely beat 3:2. Both of them at fault for one goal each with a horrendous performance apparently.

Wildcarding Round 3 is only to act on likely rotations and fixture shift?

I have an okay side for Round 3, but here is my reasoning why I believe waiting till Quarter Finals to use the WC is worth a consideration.

-Remember, we only have 3 free transfers from our 2nd round team(unlimited transfer) to the quarter finals.
-So, out of our 15 players, we would hope 12(+/-) to make it to the next round, and use the 3 free transfers to sort out the remaining 3.
-Hit of -4 is too expensive in a 7 round only fantasy game, with no bonus points, so even an extra goal doesn't justify the hit.
-With the way this world cup is turning out so far, I really don't expect any of the matches to be an easy run. Let's not forget the potential Argentina vs France, Brazil vs Germany fixtures. Uruguay vs Spain/Portugal, all these will be too tight to call. And we may end up with 7 or 8 players for Quarter Finals.
-The only solution to that would be going for a solid 11 players for that round. But, you will fail to maximize your subs.
-Bench Boosting could be a good chip to play in Quarters after wildcarding the best possible team in that round. However, I do believe we will have at least 3 underperformers to sub out.

Tldr; Wildcarding for Quarter Finals is worth a consideration.

Absolutely agree. I think you may be able to grab some extra points by using it now, but you seriously risk compromising your entire game if you fail to predict one of the outcomes (e.g. you pick 3 players of a team which is eliminated). I'm definitely keeping WC for quarter finals, bench boost likely for round of 16 or QF, and max captain for final/3rd place or semi final (only 2 games, only 2 gos at captain and more unpredictable).

You have only 2 gos at captain for quarter finals as well. Its only 2 matchdays!

        1. JLAEST
          • 11 Years

Fair point. However, I still think captain in final/3rd place is the way to go. Unpredictable matches, where both teams are strong and it is rare there is a clear favourite (vs. quarter finals where you still can have some matches where you find a clear favorite).

Due to this, the best captain is usually very unpredictable, with it a lot of times being a defender (which we don't usually captain). Let's look at Euro/WC finals recently and find the best captain, considering you wouldn't captain a defender:
          WC 2010
Final: Netherlands 0x1 Spain - Iniesta. Possible you'd captain him, but most people likely would go for an attacker (RVP, Villa)
3rd place: Germany 3x2 Uruguay - Cavani, Forlan, Jansen, Khedira. You could have one of these as captain (mostly Cavani/Forlan).

          Euro 2012
Final: Spain 4x0 - Silva, Alba, Torres, Mata. Torres and Silva okay choices for captain, but you'd be better with Alba, that almost everyone had at that point (he scored a lot of points in the tournament).

          WC 2014
Final: Germany 1x0 Argentina - Gotze. Not only not the biggest assest in Germany, but everyone who had Messi would captain it.
3rd place: Netherlands 3x0 Brazil - RVP or Wijnaldum with goals. Blind would be the best (clean sheet + goal) but you'd never captain him.

          Euro 2016
Final: France 0x1 Portugal - Only goal by Éder. I'm Portuguese and no way in hell anyone would captain him.

Overall, not only results are unpredictable, also goal scorers are unpredictable. Very rarely there are braces, so most times you're better served with a defender (which you wouldn't captain in the first place).

will be difficult to choose a squad where 15 players are playing as most of the players from QF teams would be expensive, hence bench boost will also be a bad idea in that stage

But that's to compensate for the price differences, all the better players will have gotten a +0.3 increase.

Agreed, but you will have some of those players too, for example Lukaku, Varela, Eriksen, Ronaldo, Cheryshev, Golovin, Griezmann, Costa. You should have some already by now

      2. Grand Thibauto
        • 11 Years

I agree bench boost is a poor idea because, if we stack up players from first matchday, it's quite likely we get 3 underperformers who we can sub out, making bench boost of no real use.
