Japan and Colombia have been backed by Fantasy managers to get positive results from the Group H finale, and progress to the World Cup knockout stages.

James Rodriguez (£9.0m) is the most high-profile asset in action this afternoon with 11.5 percent picking him against Senegal. Despite registering two assists in Colombia’s convincing 3-0 win over Poland, the Real Madrid midfielder has not earned an increase in ownership since Gameround 2.

However, the most popular player in the Group H finale is still Carlos Sanchez (£4.5m), who is expected to return from his one-match suspension earned after being red-carded against Japan.

Colombia’s opponents Senegal are once again not particularly fashionable with Fantasy managers. No player has higher ownership levels than midfielder Salif Sane (£4.5m) who sits in just 5.9 percent of squads. Youssouf Sabaly (£4.0m) remains owned by 4.5 percent of managers.

In the other Group H fixture, Japan’s budget options have proved the most popular, although no player in the match is owned by more than a tenth of McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Fantasy managers.

Takashi Inui (£4.5m) will be the main focus after he scored and assisted in the 2-2 draw with Senegal. His ownership has just about doubled since Gameround 2, rising to 7.1 percent.

In the same number of squads is full-back Hiroki Sakai (£4.0m). A sure starter, he is yet to get a Fantasy return in Russia but registered three assists in qualifying.

Already eliminated Poland have been almost completely deserted by Fantasy managers. Robert Lewandowski (£9.5m) remains their most popular player but has lost three percent ownership since Gameround 2.

Also think Neymar will step up. He has been very good statistically even if it doesn't translate to goals. He is due a couple.

It might not be so I might use it for the Final and 3rd place game. The Final games are usually very tight so I'll load up on defenders... The 3rd place game is historically very open and has plenty of goals, so I'll load up on attackers....

Nice. Only options left were him and Maguire. I decided to go for Maguire because of set piece record and thought Columbia would trounce Senegal.

52 with the captain fail as its widely reported that Maguire won't start.

First draft R16 team (with wildcard, planning to play BB):
    Pickford Courtois
    Granqvist Fagner Miranda Ramos RRod
    Isco Modric Quintero Claesson Gazinsky
    Kane Neymar Hazard

Disclaimer: hate both Fagner (not nailed) and Gazinsky (shite) but can't find any option. Even downgrading Neymar wouldn't allow much (as I'd need to get Coutinho in mid)
Objective was to maximize penalty takers (7 by my calculations). Don't have a cap for first day however, but the only option I'd consider is Griezmann which just has no space there.

I think at least try to get 1 player from 1st day to utilise the SUB. and i think choose between R.ROD and GRANV as 1 will surely be out after this round.

My plan going forward into the knock-out stages. Feel free to like or tear to bits.

Top Quartet: Leave alone: France v Argentina and Uruguay v Portugal both too close to call. Clean sheets unlikely. None/very fewplayers.

Second Quartet: Brazil and England(or)Belgium to go through, then its hard to call, probably Brazil. Several players from both.

Third Quartet: Spain to go through to the semi's. So 4 Spanish players.

Forth Quartet: Belgium(or)England to go to the semi's. So to summarise players from Brazil, Spain, England, Belgium.

The idea is to avoid playing the Wildcard until as late as possible given the qf transfer limitation.

We know what happens to the best laid plans but plans there must be! Thoughts?

Exactly my first thoughts, and where my largest piles of cash are. However as you'll find when you dive into building the team, the front is basically:

Modric Isco Coutinho Quintero Lingard (options: James, Cheryshev, Inui and little more)
      Kane Kaku/Hazard Neymar/Costa

This means you likely are at 65-75 out of 105. Not easy to build a defence from those teams on that cash.

In addition this creates a problem which is no captain for day 1. However, there's really no one I'd spend my money on of those, so only option is a cheap one (Pavard or Varela) which is not nailed and in the end might be worse than not having it.

I am not liking to choose a bench fodder DEF or MID for R16. Fir example if we choose INUI for R16 then most probably we will be 1 player less for QF, in stead choosing at least Varela (4.6m DEF) or Quentiro and Claesson gives a better chance of proceeding to QF?

    1. JLAEST
      • 11 Years
      7 years, 6 months ago

      Varela not nailed
Quintero/Claesson little more chance of progressing than Inui

From QF onwards it will be pretty much impossible to field 15 players.
