Croatia players may fill the void in Fantasy teams left by Spain, as they prepare for a World Cup quarter-final with Russia.

Zlatko Dalic’s side remain one of the favourites from their side of the draw to reach the final and offer plenty of value with their assets.

We’ve got all the goals, assists and Fantasy talking points from Sunday’s second last sixteen match.

To read the report on Spain vs Russia, CLICK HERE.

CROATIA 1-1 DENMARK (3-2 on penalties)

TOP-SCORING PLAYERS

  • Kasper Schmeichel (£5.1m) – 9 points
  • Mario Mandzukic (£8.9m) – 6 points
  • Mathias Jorgensen (£4.9m) – 6 points
  • Thomas Delaney (£7m) – 5 points
  • Ante Rebic (£5.5m) – 4 points

Kasper Schmeichel (£5.1m) was the Fantasy star on Sunday evening, although his success was short-lived as Denmark crashed out of the World Cup on penalties.

The Danish goalkeeper emerged as the top-scoring player from the match after he made a crucial penalty save from Luka Modric (£9.1m) in the dying embers of extra-time.

He went on to make two further saves in the shoot-out but his opposite number Danijel Subasic (£5.6m) made three to send Croatia through to a quarter-final match with Russia.

Denmark took the lead in just the second minute when a Jonas Knudsen (£4.0m) long-throw was flicked on by Thomas Delaney (£7.0m) and bundled into the net by Mathias Jorgensen (£4.9m). It was the first goal conceded by Croatia’s first-choice back-four and goalkeeper at this World Cup.

There was a quick response, though as a poor clearance came off Andreas Christensen (£5.0m) and was turned into the net by Mario Mandzukic (£8.9m).

After such an electric start, the match fizzled out and ended up going to extra-time. In final moments of the additional 30 minutes, Ante Rebic (£5.5m) was sent clean through, skilfully took it round Schmeichel and was about to slot into an empty net when Jorgensen brought him down.

The Huddersfield defender was shown a yellow card instead of a red for his genuine attempt to play the ball, but a penalty was still awarded.

Modric took it but it was well-saved by Schmeichel, sending the match to a second penalty shoot-out of the day.

Modric managed to net his in the shoot-out after Christian Eriksen (£9.1m) had seen his saved by Subasic.

After two Schmeichel saves and three from Subasic, it was Ivan Rakitic (£8.5m) who scored the winning kick to send Croatia through to face Russia.

There will be keen interest in Croatian assets for the later knockout rounds, especially now that managers are looking to offload Spanish players.

Subasic and his defensive colleagues may prove popular. At this tournament so far, Russia have not scored a goal in open play against any nation higher than 45th on the FIFA World Rankings.

CROATIA XI (4-1-4-1): Subasic; Strinic (Pivaric 81’), Vida, Lovren, Vrsaljko; Brozovic (Kovacic 71’); Perisic (Kramaric 97’), Rakitic, Modric, Rebic; Mandzukic (Badelj 108’).

DENMARK XI (4-4-1-1): Schmeichel; Knudsen, M Jorgensen, Kjaer, Dalsgaard; Braithwaite (Sisto 105’), Delaney (Krohn-Dehli 98’), Christensen (Schone 45’), Poulsen; Eriksen; Cornelius (N Jorgensen 66’).

With some upsets in the knockouts so far, how are people dealing with eliminated players? How many players have you lost so far, and what are your plans to sort this out before the QFs?

Will people possibly go into the QFs with 9 or 10 players, or are hits being spread around? Do you think this will make you more cautious when spreading around your nationalities for the next set?

Think the top half of the QF is/will still be tight and hard to call.

So Spain -> Croatia/England could be the move. Putting out 10 players in QF could be ok.

Of course relies on no further upsets re: Brazil, Eng, Belguim

Lost 4 players, 2 Spaniards and 2 Danes. Playing a game with far less transfers than the McD game too so its pretty devestating. If Belgium dont do the job Im basically fecked. Luckily I can accept Dahlsgaard as bench fodder and upgrade a mid instead which was what I wanted to do anyway.

Just lost Isco and Pique so far.

Tanked up on Belgium, so that will determine the extent of the damage, but looking ok so far....

      Would take hits if necessary.

Spain out was a massive shock as I imagined them putting two or three past Russia and qualifying quite comfortably.

That said I didn't want any of their defenders as they have been terrible at the back, while Costa was too much of a liability and Mbappe seemed a better option in a team which looked bound to score a few against Aregntina, so I have only lost Isco from them.

I have therefore lost Isco and Pavon so far, and I will lose one out of Sommer and Granqvist and probably Inui. I could take 4 losses but any more would be tough. Whilst I completely wasted my WC in GW I'm still alive as things stand!

Only lost Isco so far and hoping England and Belgium win then it will be 3 easy transfers but one more upset will make it a lot harder!

Have already lost 4 Spain, as well as having a dead 3.9 GK and Inui..

Need Brazil, England, Belgium, Switzerland to get through or I'm completely screwed..

    14. DJDave1979
      • 11 Years

I realised that not having a WC meant.I couldn't go triple on anyone and have spread my squad around. I've lost two players, including my reserve keeper and have five through. I'm guaranteed 8 now and Brazil going through would lift that to 10.I think Brazil gping through would mean I've got away with the early wildcard for this round with just the QF cull to negotiate.

Need minimum 8 players thru' to avoid hits..

Lost 2 Spaniards, and will lose either Kane or Quintero so 5/8 are through.

Either need my 3x Brazilians or 2xSwedes+1xBelgian to be safe.

I've done OK so far, having only lost 2 (1 Spain, 1 Argentina). Will definitely lose at least 2 more (3 if Sweden beat Switzerland) - it could, of course, get much worse than that (2 Brazil, 2 Belgium, 2 Swiss, 1 English, 1 Swede and 1 Columbian left to play). I also have Varela who didn't play and probably won't play next round either.

If it goes to plan, I'll have:

      Muslera, Sommer
      Rodriguez, Boyata, Trippier, Valera?, -
      Coutinho, Modric, -, -, -
      Hazard, MBappe, Neymar

so probably need 3 midfield transfers and leave the defence. Might hold C Sanchez anyway as he's so cheap (and the midfield options haven't been doing well) - money is going to be the big problem.

I really don't think it is. the tiki taka parody that was going on in front of him wasn't his fault but he didnt command his box or use his legs the way he does for united. if it was claudio bravo he would be getting pelters.he just didn't look focused. and two of those russian pens were very poor.

Those stats make Bravo look a cross of Gordon Banks and Peter Schmeichel.

He had a shocker of a World Cup. That's just a fact.

Which was obviously a surprise given we all know how good he is. But you would have to be a blindfolded relative of his not to accept the stats and what you saw.

Coin flip between Neymar and Hazard for me today. Leaning towards Neymar as everyone ahead of me has Lukaku (c). If Hazard scores or assists, you'd think Lukaku would be involved but none of them have Neymar so if he gets a haul I'm right back in it...

    Early Isco replacements?

    1. Paulinho (Have double Brazil)
    2 Pogba (Have double France)
    3. Rakitic (Have double Croatia)
    4. Golovin
    5. Lingard (Have double England)

    Other?

I’m looking at Pogba or J.Rod/Lingard.
Not so sure about Rakitic & Paulinho as they play a little deep and as the games get tougher they’ll be defending more although I like Croatian striker options.

Ive been thinking about R as yest he played more forward than Modric. Pogba in fact can be interesting punt, Uru should block the middle of penalty box so maybe some longshots can be in

I like Pogba because I have 0 France and I think I should get one atleast for QFs but if Lingard/J.Rod do well tom I might be more interested in them.

who would you consider out of those for next round (different game)

    A) Modric
    B) Perisic
    C) Mandzukic

Do we think Modric still is on pens?

Perisic if he's classed as a midfielder. I'd imagine Modric is still on pens given that he showed the bottle to step up in the shootout and converted. No guarantee though.

Perisic and Mandzukic is listed as forwards, modric as midfielder

      Why?

Only tragedy is the way big favorites played.

Not their fault the likes of Germany and Spain choked. Argentina would have been in that half of the draw if they won their group but they were a shambles.

People love to moan when managers picking/or loving for players on their reputation. Similar when people love the big countries and moan when they go out, reputation counts for nothing. You have to perform. Big countries with the big players have gone out because they deserved to

The sad thing is that if any of those teams win, people will say "They only won because the big teams lost"

None of the 'big teams' who've gone home have played really well and got unlucky. None of them have been good enough.

Incomparable stats to anyone else at the World Cup. All set pieces and pens. Mexico are very attacking and as a result have the worst defensive stats in the tournament. Mexico are also without Moreno their best defender.

Not a problem. It’s the most logical decision but there hasn’t been a lot of logic to these results so far!
