The last World Cup 2018 quarter-final place will be decided this evening as Colombia and England meet in Moscow in a 7pm kick-off.

From a Fantasy perspective, there is only one place to start. Harry Kane (£11.2m) was the third-most bought player ahead of the round of 16 transfer deadline last Saturday, having attracted over 360,000 new owners in the McDonald’s FIFA game. Kane is now owned by 31% of Fantasy managers, with only Romelu Lukaku proving a more popular pick in attack.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker was lethal in his two group stage appearances, scoring from all five of his shots attempted inside the opposition box. Kane’s goal haul includes two successful spot-kicks.

Jesse Lingard (£7.6m) is, perhaps surprisingly, the next most-owned England asset, sitting in 16.8% of Fantasy squads.

John Stones (£5.9m) remains the most popular route into the England backline, having been selected by 14.6% of those playing McDonald’s FIFA. Gareth Southgate’s side have yet to keep a clean sheet at this year’s tournament but Stones has posed a threat from attacking set pieces, scoring on two occasions from five attempts on goal.

Colombia are without James Rodriguez (£9.0m) in their starting XI, with the attacking midfielder losing his race for fitness after picking up an injury in the 1-0 win over Senegal.

Juan Quintero (£5.7m), who has one goal and two assists to his name at this World Cup, and Carlos Sanchez (£4.3m) are the two most popular Colombia assets on show tonight, sitting in 15.2% and 10.4% of Fantasy squads respectively.

Yerry Mina (£5.8m), who has scored a goal and kept a clean sheet in both of his World Cup appearances, has been selected by 7.5% of McDonald’s FIFA managers, meanwhile.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

Why it's ok to spell Colombia as Columbia. 😉

So in the absence of a centralised authority or ‘spelling police’, it may be the case that the spelling of ‘Colombia’ will turn out to be precisely what the majority of English speakers say it is. The Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein’s celebrated dictum ‘meaning is use’ comes to mind when speaking of how a language community can determine the rules of their language by using it in a specific way, and that there is no correct language beyond the community of speakers. It’s entirely possible that in a decade, like many words in the English language that have more than one accepted spelling, ‘Columbia’ will be a perfectly acceptable alternative spelling to ‘Colombia’.

Which is why when someone corrects the way you spell ‘Colombia’, you can rest easy that it isn’t because you’re ignorant; you’re just a participant in an evolving language and you have chosen to side with the majority of English speakers that spell it the way it sounds. As a native speaker of English, you’re perfectly entitled to spell it the way the people in your community do.

Good luck to the Scottish tonight. It's the biggest game in their football history as they desperately try to stay relevent, clinging on to some kind of rivalry that the English forgot about 30 years ago.

UEFA reinvestigates PSG for the signings of Neymar and Mbappé

UEFA returns to investigate the PSG, this time for possible financial doping in the signings of Neymar and Mbappé last summer, as announced on Tuesday with a statement on its website the highest European football body.

In that letter, UEFA has informed that the investigation now goes to the Adjudication Chamber of the Club Financial Control Committee (CFCB). Contrary to the conclusion of the original investigation, carried out by the CFCB itself and closed on June 13 without sanction and with sales obligation to balance its accounts for the PSG, the chamber sees indications of irregularities in the operations of Neymar and Mbappé, 222 and 180 million, respectively.

Then, the CFCB considered that the PSG had not exceeded the established limit of losses, a barrier that was surpassed by Milan, which was recently sanctioned with one year without competing in European competitions. But that issue is different from the one that PSG must now worry about, since this time there is no penalty for breach of financial fair play, but for financial doping: the Chamber of Award notes that the club led by Nasser Al Khelaifi could have benefited from Qatar financing, justifying the money from that country, key in the mega operations of Neymar and Mbappé, with advertising contracts of dubious regularity.

They'll probably sell Neymar to RM before the investigation is over.

Madrid denied any interest in Neymar a few days ago. But might be keeping it under the rug.

Where's Rodriguez? I feel cheated. Would have been a great game had he played.

The manager probably wants some excuse once Colombia lose!

We don't have Gascoine playing tonight. You just have to get on with it.
