Best set-piece and penalty takers for World Cup Fantasy quarter-finals

Set-pieces are still proving important for World Cup Fantasy managers as we head into the quarter-finals.

Once again, we’ve pulled together all the relevant data so Fantasy Football Scout members can work out which nations are the best to invest in for the next round.

At this stage, it looks like England and Brazil are the most likely to score from set-piece situations in the quarter-finals, based on their respective match-ups while Croatia and Russia both look susceptible to balls into the box.

READ NEXT: Our transfer tips and stats for the World Cup Fantasy quarter-finals

Our research includes the penalty and corner-takers for each country, based on who has taken them either in Russia or, in some cases, in qualification. If there is no number next to a player’s name it’s because they took at least one in qualifying and/or warm-up games but are yet to take one at the World Cup itself.

We’ve also calculated which teams concede the most fouls and attempts from set-plays too to help you work out which nations are the most likely to get set-pieces in the first place.

To clarify, the ‘Attempts from set plays’ section combines those who have shot from direct free-kicks or those who have latched onto the end of a corner.

The deadline for Gameround 5 is at 15:00 BST on Friday July 6, so make sure you sort your team in time.

Nah. Misses sitters quite often and doesn't have much contribution outside goals. Relies on service. Conversion rate last season was around 16%, lower than the likes of Aguero, Salah, Firmino, Lukaku, Sterling, etc.

If Aguero is 11m, Kane shouldn't be more than 11m either.

Aguero had a much better PPM than Kane last season, but Kane is nailed. Also, Aguero was never a captaincy troll, whereas Kane was. This is coming from someone who never owned Aguero once last season.

So Kane replicates 200+ for 3 seasons yet warrants a 1.6m price drop from last season.
Obviously Salah won't be 15m. 12 to 13 like you say.

Because for 200+, 11-11.5 is a fair price. More than fair in fact. Even excluding Salah who had a freak season, KDB, Sterling, Eriksen, Mahrez all got 200+ or close to 200 and they're at least 2m cheaper than Kane.

Do you honestly believe 12.5m is a fair price for 200+? Gotta be scoring at least 240. He got just 2 assists last season!

Because last season, there was a serious lack of options up front outside Kane and Firmino. Vardy inconsistent too. We had to get someone. It was possible to fit him in, doesn't mean he proved his worth.

Until there are solid choices up front, Kane will still be very popular regardless of price. He'll also have a better home ground to play at.

https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/entry/2160839/history had no Kane and only had Salah for his free hit so you can do plenty avoiding both.

"Aguero had a much better PPM, but Kane is nailed" - not sure this is the correct argument. Even if Kane has less PPM, but the fact that he is nailed means he will play more minutes and therefore get more pts by the end of the season. Hence Kane should cost more?

No, because you won't own either player for the whole season (I mean, unless they're Salah level). When you got Aguero at the right time, he delivered better than Kane did. That's why his PPM is higher. Whereas Kane stayed in our teams for most of the season, but often frustrated us with captaincy blanks, and ended with just 217 points while costing 13m.

Get Aguero and " at the right time" is a very difficult combination to get right. How do you know when Pep will select him? Unless Jesus is injured you don't.

You can't always have Aguero at 'the right time' unless you transfer him in and out every other week though. You can't expect only one city forward to be fit for the majority of the season either.

Lol the stats are there for you to see. I mentioned PPM. Don't blame me if you're lazy to check them. Anyway, here it is,

            Aguero - 6.8 PPM
            Kane - 5.9 PPM

            1. AndyCook
                5 years, 10 months ago

Apologies, it was a bit harsh. PPM only matter if you can get them in the minutes they play. That requires skill and a lot of luck.

I think there is a value in predictable points. A player who plays 1 minute a game all season will have a PPM of 90 will they not, even if they do nothing.

Isn't Firmino at 9.5 pretty outstanding value?

2017/18 - Same number of assists, and one less goal, than Lukaku. Both of them being the highest assisting forwards (joint on 7).
How can you therefore logically justify charging a whole 2.0 million more for Lukaku? (assuming he comes in at 11.5 again, which he may not I guess)
            Shouldn't Lukaku also be 9.5/10?

I think his price will drop but Firmino probably performed at his perceived potential in terms of points whereas Lukaku probably underperformed versus what most perceive his potential to be. For example Salah won’t be 14M because he is unlikely to get 300 points again but if we thought he would he would be priced as such. I agree Firmino looks a steal but players tend to be priced on potential rather than past performance. It’s the same reason why non-starters at good clubs are often priced higher than regular starters at poorer clubs.

We should all have 13-15 players easily come the final. 10 transfers on the same batch of players. I'll be using my 5 transfers for the final to go heavy on the 3rd place players once we see the lineups

Need some gooood differentials (local game) thoughts on these transfers:

                  Quintero + Ramos + Isco + Cavani —> Hernandez (1%) + Perisic (4%) + Golovin (5%) + Griezmann (17% but only one in my mini league)

                  Thanks guys!

Hi guys! Playing on a local site so rules are slightly different, but point structure the same. 4 transfers per fixture.Thoughts on this: Ronaldo + Lewandowski + Eriksen + Hector —> Lukaku + Kane + Quintero + StrinicThat would give me:Lukaku - Kane - Cavani Isco - Coutinho - Quintero Ramos - Marcelo - Meunier - Strinic PickfordAny advice is highly appreciated. Thanks guys!

not sure why most ppl keep saying this, might be due to how he plays for Pool but he only has 2 goals in over 50 caps for Croatia. The only reason you would pick a Croatian defender is for cleanies nothing more tbh

the las round IMO less opportunities to twist incase you captain blanks, plus it's hard to predict the player that might haul in the final. Moreover, the third place match is normally a goalfest judging by the last 3 world cups

QFs for me, law of averages, 4 games and better chance that one will be high scoring. Also, I have numerous captaincy options for day 1 and am unsure of my best pick!

Muslera locked in my team team then, just for the save pts

He has done me proud so far, staying in my team until Uruguay go home!

The Uruguay price is wrong imo - i'm having some of that.

And Croatia 6/5 to beat Russia in normal time. Crazy price! Having that too

                      Neymar or Kane?

Good prices for Bobby and Kun. Mo won't be less than 13m.

12.5 maybe, you never know. I think at 13 a lot would leave him out given Firmino kind pricing and possible pricing of Mane around 9.5 again

Went from 75k -> 8k this week from 73 points somehow. Now I've just taken a -8 hit because it's just a game and I go full send! Because only FPL matters right.

They are really killing that sweet moment of release by giving away prices like this

Yep. Folk have no patience. Plus it gives the FPL Twitter feed a load more hits.

                        A- Rakitic
                        B- Willian

Already got Coutinho, Miranda, Modric and Strinic

I went for Rakitic over Willian myself.

I actually changed to Willian as if Rakitic gets a YC he'll miss the SF!

Rakitic doesn't seem like the type to get another YC though.
