Just eight matches remain of this year’s World Cup, the first of which gets underway at 3pm in Nizhny Novgorod as Uruguay take on France in the opening quarter-final.

Kylian Mbappe‘s (£9.0m) two-goal performance in Les Bleus’ 4-3 win over Argentina has attracted over 430,000 new Fantasy managers (the highest number of the round) and the 19-year-old forward is now the most-owned French asset, having been selected by 30.8% of those who are playing McDonald’s FIFA.

Antoine Griezmann (£10.0m) has yet to score from open play at this year’s tournament but simply being on spot-kick duties for his country in this World Cup of penalties means he warrants consideration. The Atletico Madrid forward, who has already scored twice from 12 yards, is owned by 17.4% of Fantasy managers.

The curious case of N’Golo Kante (£6.0m) drags on. While the Chelsea star admittedly remains the cheapest route into the French midfield, his lack of goal involvement (no goals, assists, shots or big chances created) has not deterred over a fifth of McDonald’s FIFA bosses from drafting the defensive midfielder into their squads.

Benjamin Pavard‘s (£4.5m) wonder strike in the win over Argentina, coupled with his budget price tag, has attracted the interest of over 150,000 new managers: the full-back now has a double-digit ownership, along with Raphael Varane (£6.0m) and Hugo Lloris (£6.0m).

Edinson Cavani (£9.5m) produced an excellent display in the 2-1 win over Portugal, scoring twice, but the Uruguayan striker misses out this afternoon with a calf injury.

Cavani’s strike partner Luis Suarez (£10.0m), who has two goals and an assist to his name at this summer’s World Cup, is owned by just 8% of McDonald’s FIFA managers. Suarez and Cavani have had more big chances than all of France’s squad combined this summer.

Diego Godin, Jose Gimenez and goalkeeper Fernando Muslera (all £5.7m) have been backed by 30.6%, 14.5% and 14.4% of McDonald’s FIFA managers respectively. Uruguay have yet to concede a goal from open play in 2018, with Pepe’s header from a corner-kick in the last-16 tie with Portugal the first goal Uruguay have conceded at this World Cup.

Uruguay XI (4-3-1-2): Muslera; Caceres, Gimenez, Godin, Laxalt; Nandez, Torreira, Vecino; Bentancur; Suarez, Stuani

France XI (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Pavard, Varane, Umtiti, Hernandez; Pogba, Kante; Tolisso, Mbappe, Griezmann; Giroud

has to be one of the worst world cups for goalkeeping. from cabalero teeing up volleys to that garbage from the muslera, and whatever else in between, its been awful. yes there has been some worldie saves but you get those at every tournament. but you dont get this many unforced errors.

The men had to lower the standards to be in line with women goalkeepers to make the Women's game more palatable.

Seems to be a similar situation to Mitrovic. Toon are looking to sign him so I think FPL don't want to price him and Chelsea which would mean he's under priced at Newcastle.

Scrooges. This is part of a way we can build a team! Both may not move so when do they put them in i.e. when is the move decided as not happening? Wilshere not there either but with no club is kinda understandable.

If Mahrez does go to City for £60m, he surely won't be warming the bench. Sterling and Sane are young.

At 9.0m, I will be investing if it happens.

Wonder if Sterling would be an impact player then. His finishing was poor at times, despite his goal tally. The amount of chances City create is unbelievable, and they could be even better with someone of Mahrez's quality.

Imagine him getting all the big chances Sterling gets.

Mahrez got 12 goals, 13 assists at Leicester last season. At City, it could be a scary total.

I came into this year with the intention of spending more in defence, but there's just so much value to be had that I can see myself spending quite little!

You've got 3 potential 4.0 options in Bednarek, Wan-Bissaka and Schelotto, then a guaranteed Everton defender at 4.5 with brilliant fixtures (probably Williams) and then Burnley defence at 5.0, maybe Alex-Arnold at 5.0, maybe Kolasinac at 5.0.

Current draft has Alexander-Arnold, Ward, Everton 4.5, Tomkins and Schelotto, but Tomkins could become Wan-Bissaka for a quality dirt cheap back line

    1. Prøfeßör …
      • 9 Years

You don't think? Burnley defence is gold, Trent can be if he nails down a spot, and Everton's initial fixtures are brilliant - they'd be the usual first 3, and still got 2 options with potential at both ends of the pitch on the benchh

TAA is a great pick if he nails down a spot. Everton's fixtures are brilliant, but there is too much uncertainty with the 4.5s for now. It looks like Coleman or nothing. Not sure about Burnley's defence at that price with the Europa League - it could work out I suppose. The 4.0s are big risks. It needs at least one more big hitter.

I agree I think there is still a perception that Burnley are no good because they are Burnley.

Yeah I really want 5 good defenders, but there's enough in midfield this year that I have to force myself to get at least one 4.0 and maybe another 4.0-4.5 to go with him. Things could change if I get cold feet over Ramsey and Mkhi 😀

    2 of:
    Aguero, sane and kdb?
I think sane and kdb are better due to pitch time when jesus comes back after 1-2 gws

With Mendy back to add pace on the left, Sane might not be as safe. KDB is the one to get most minutes

I was away for the first half of the season.

Did Mendy never play with Sane?

Not sure how accurate this is, but I feellike Mendy started the season and when he was injured was approx when Sane became a regular. Take with a grain of salt

Pep commented on how Mendy provided width early on and had to play Sane all the time as Delph/Zivchenko didn't.

You have to drop one. Your team will rely on luck to be viable

Agreed, needs to get a couple of solid mid priced options rather than punty cheap players

Sigurdsson only if he is played in the centre and not out wide.
      Wasted there imo.

used the max captain chip but it says "bench boost active" on the QF live team. (Used BB round 3).

Damn that's nice. Admittedly never considered Varane. He's not known for scoring...

Thanks. It was an amateur move I have ti admit. Just opted for the most expensive defender and Griezmann as he’s on pens.
