Best Everton players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

Everton’s midfield and forward options could be worth including in our Fantasy Premier League squads this season.

New manager Marco Silva is expected to overhaul the style used by predecessor Sam Allardyce in 2018/19 and remove the shackles from their most dangerous players.

Two midfield options and one striker in particular, that were restricted last term, boast some underlying numbers which suggest they could impress in Everton’s appealing set of early fixtures.

Fantasy Football Scout members can view that data in the Members’ Area and also read our full analysis of it below to help them pick the best possible FPL team this season.

Just made huge changes to my draft. I'd appreciate any thoughts on it. Thank you in advance!

    Here it is:

    Pickford
    Mendy Robertson Daniels
    Salah(c) Eriksen(vc) Dilva Jota
    Firmino Zaha Arnie

    Speroni | Cairney Cedric Peltier

    Nothing ITB

I quite like it. Having no backup goalie maybe the only issue. Mine is very similar instead I’m going with a 11.0 forward but leaves me with only 6.0 for a 3rd forward. But I do have a playing backup goalie.

Why do I need a backup goalie?

Pickford's good enough, so he could be set and forget.

Looks good and different without Kun.
Arinie doesn’t have the beat fixtures though. Spurs will be without their key assets so not sure how well Eriksen will do. Mendy is a wait & watch but if he’s nailed he’s an amazing option.

Had Kun until now. Not sure whether Dilva is nailed on.

Arnie doesn't have the best fixtures but he could still go big @GW2, 4 for instance.

However, I could easily switch him to Tosun.

Selection ahead depends on his performances and you can't write him off on those grounds.

He’s far & away their best left sided defender/wing back, way above Delph & Danilo & better than Sané at that role, I think he’ll be very nailed, a potential great FPL pick with high upside. If he had set pieces he’d be up there with Alonso, but as it is, should score very highly

As in you agree or disagree?

A fit Mendy starts 2 league games out of 3, on average. But not 3 if Delph is fit imo.

Delph is a utility player. He did great last season and that's where it ends. He won't compete with Mendy for LB/LWB

You're forgetting Delph is primarily a midfielder. He was a mere placeholder for Mendy because of an emergency. Mendy is up and running now; so he's the first choice. There's a reason why City paid that amount for him; because he can defend and bomb forward like no other fullback in Europe. Delph might get odd games here and there in the league, might be first choice for the cup games too but that's about it.

Doesnt really matter what he initially is - and I know he is a mid.

Pep used him as a LWB, it worked so he knows he can do it again, and will from time to time.

Having no premium forward is dangerous if one goes off. Only one (C) option in Salah is also dangerous.
Eriksen is a no-go imo, with how many of his teammates are fatigued/not starting after the WC.

Just don't go back to DDG again, a premium GK is never worth it. DDG was only better value than Lössl for the first 9 GW's last season, and he was cheaper then

Kane's WC campaign is over and has a month's time to recover, no?

        Mendy hasn't even played much.

About the keeper situation, yes. Do you have a good 4.5m/4m keeper pair that you can suggest? Or should I go for a fire-and-forget option like Pickford?

Kane still has a WC game on Saturday. Then well deserved holidays for two or three weeks I guess, which means he will only train with the group for a week or so before the league starts. Dont think he will start the first game, maybe even the second

Chelsea are supposed to be interested in Higuain.

Hazard will be key so it remains to be seen if/how Sarri utilizes Willian and Pedro. Both superbly priced if they become first-choices.

    Coleman

So after all the talk of how amazing he would be as wingback in a 343 style formation this article completely rubbishes that. Shows it's likely to be a back 4 with a poor defensive manager.

Are people still backing him heavily?

    1. AllanM
      • 6 Years
      5 years, 9 months ago

Not sure what the article says but he looks the best option at the back for Everton just now. Watford were poor defensively under Silva, can’t remember how he was at Hull.

Personally I don’t think Everton will keep many clean sheets but Coleman has good attacking potential.

I had gone the same route as the article suggests - 4.5m placeholder for whoever shows up as the first choice second CB in that range through pre season.

If he is used as a full back with people like bolasie and Walcott ahead of him it's likely he'll be involved in the attacks but not the man delivering the final killer balls as often as if he was wing back.

Silva has managed some shite teams and done good things with them.He has never had a fullback with the caliber that Coleman has.

Maybe he opted for certain formations to suit the players he had at his disposal?

Only 4.4% of teams have Seamus among their ranks and he is only been backed "heavily" by fpl managers in the know which should tell you something,

I guess we can monitor over pre season to see what system he plays and decide, at wingback I think he could be worth a look but not as a full back at that price. Especially since Silva won't guarantee clean sheets.

We say fpl managers in the know but is that confined to the posters on here or do you know that from other sources?

Not having a dig but I'm new to the site and from what I've seen its common for communities to convince themselves on a player and everyone to join that thought process. That and he was a favourite on here previously so it could be a lot of nostalgia.

Even if he is playing in a 4 at the back he still has managed to get forward and contribute with assists and an odd goal in the past.

I don't use any other fpl forum and really don't even take any notice of anyone on this one but there are some good shrewd managers around here and i have happened to spot Coleman in a few of their drafts.

I know these kind of places can be big echo chambers and you are dead right the always be skeptical of a cosy consensus developing.

Any player could be considered a nostalgia pick if he fails to live up to past exploits.Who knows after a few weeks Salah might look like a nostalgia pick.

I guess that's an advantage I don't have yet with being new and being able to know what managers past records and achievements are to follow their tips so fair enough.

He's definitely on my watch list but I just wanted some convincing from those who are big on him.

With Salah I don't think it's as risky as taking someone over nostalgia of a couple seasons ago like Coleman or Daniels. Especially Coleman after his injury.

I can't say I watched much of Everton late on last season and as far as FPL he never sparked.

That could be down to big Sam being a defensive coach who doesn't give him much freedom to get forward from the back though.

Brilliant result for my max captain though, would have gone KDB>Kane for 2*2, ended up 7*2 for gains of 10.

4 City (Mendy Kun Dilva Mahrez) & 2 Pool (Mo Robbo)

All the way where? On the plane? In training?

I don't get this "Mendy needs a rest" arguement, guarantee Kane doesn't miss more than 1 game.

You didn't answer? What recovery does he need? He's been recovering for 10 months....How does importance to the team affect need for recovery?

Well seen as most footballers have had a month + off from training and playing and Mendy hasn't I would suggest some rest and recupertaion may be of benefit in situations such as these. You suggested Kane would miss one game as if that meant Mendy would not miss any games, so I pointed out that Kane is a lot more important to Tottenham than Mendy is to City so yes it may be likely that Kane only misses one match, I didnt say because Kane might only miss one match that he would be fully recovered in time to do so.

Why would you want 4 from a team?
It ties you when it comes to making a transfer. If one of your other players gets injured you would be stuck with them until you reduced the number of City players.

Novelty, highest scoring team, potentially large up-side.
If you haven't built a bench for minimum the first 2 weeks then you're doing something very wrong 😆

True. I’ve done it myself in the past but it can give you a headache when you need to make a transfer. Your hands are tied a little. Go for it if you think it will pay off. Personally I’d go with 2 or 3 of each.

Of course but IF they all played, you wouldn't want rid so could roll the first FT and perhaps waste the second. Will see how they line up (after all Mahrez could be slowly integrated as were several others)

Decided to squeeze Salah into my team as I feel it's probably too risky to go without for the first three GWs. It results in a very weak front three on paper but I like my starting XI atm, thoughts?

    Fabianski / 4.0
    Robertson / Coleman / PVA / Cedric
    Salah / Sanchez / Siggy / Ramsey
    Aguero / King
    (Stek, Cairney, Bonatini, Bednarek)

I poured over those blogs for hours. The first one has prompted me to select a squad that goes big at the back and midfield, and light up top. That contradicts the second one with 3 budget defenders, but since nearly all the combos include BOU in whose defence I have no faith, it wasn't hard to let that one go!

Thoughts on this 4-4-2? Still deciding on Wood or King.

    Ederson

but yea he's essential to Wolves' success. Personally on Helder Costa for 5.0 who plays on the opposite wing to Jota. No clarity over penalty takers hinders Jota' appeal for that price IMO.

Im pretty disappointed in Southgates tactical awareness and substitutions. He is clearly a good man manager and got the best out of his players. But theres a clear lack of tactical understanding and awareness of when decisions need to be made.

Having a plan A and not changing anything is poor management. England had no plan B, no formation change, no personnel change etc.

England were getting battered and there was zero intervention. Of course after we concede the panic substitutions happen.

People focus on players like Sterling, but the game as actually lost in midfield. Alli and Lingard needed replacing to regain control of the game. RLC and Delph could have offered a lot of new energy and control.

Its a bitter pill to swallow and im happy we got to the semi-finals. But there was so much opportunity here to get to the final and we choked.

100% agree with the lacking midfield points, blatantly obvious that we played 5 attackers and 5 defenders, ultimately hoofing the ball between them!

Sterling is always the fall guy despite him being one of England’s better players and their only outlet.

Alli and Lingard where non existent in midfield. One of them needed hooked and RLC needed brought on

Completely agree. Sterling was actually stretching their defense so much - just a shame he isnt more clinical.

Because he's so unskilled! Rashford is better in every department and he's quicker!!!!!!!! I just don't get the benefits of playing Sterling.

I feel differently about him after this WC.

Before i have berated Gareth for tactical ineptness and gave him little chance due to his lack of experience but i have to eat humble pie now as he really surprised me and i thought he done the best he could with what he had.

One of these days possibly after they win the World Cup you might realize just what a good team England came up against and give them some credit.

Personally i thought England were decent going forward and it was when the team had to do a bit of defending that the cracks began to show.Walker is not a center back and it was showed up badly along with Stones lack of defensive instinct.Hendo does not offer much also tbf.

Don't go out and lynch Southgate just yet because he might come in handy again in four years time.

      1. Andy_Social
        • 11 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

I dunno. I felt that in the first half his tactics were working fine. Pre-kick-off I was concerned that Hendo would have no support to silence Modric, but what happened was England zipped the ball around nicely and closed Croatia down so quick that Modric got no space. England dominated that half but fatally squandered their chances.

But then they came out for the second half and stopped playing. They dropped deep, and the defence collectively seemed knackered, making tons of mistakes and allowed Croatia to control the midfield, which of course meant playing to their strengths. The prior neat passing triangles were abandoned in favour of the old English habit of hoofing it to the front man which just constantly conceded possession.

I don't know if the tactical switch was due to Southgate trying to cling on to a 1-0 lead or whether somehow the whole team got knackered at the same time.

So maybe Southgate was tactically naive in the end but I think it more likely that his sports scientist team hadn't anticipated England getting this far and hadn't prepared the first XI to be fit enough for that final hurdle. Either way, lessons will be learnt and England will go again, a little bit older and a little bit wiser.
