Best Manchester United players to sign in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

Defence looks to be where Fantasy Premier League managers will concentrate on in 2018/19 when it comes to Manchester United.

No top flight side kept more clean sheets than the Red Devils last season thanks to some stellar work from David De Gea.

However, Jose Mourinho’s men have some work to do to convince Fantasy managers to invest in their attack after an underwhelming end to 2017/18 offensively.

We’ve analysed all the data on Man United to work out which players look best for investment this season.

Fantasy Football Scout members can view that data in the Members’ Area and also read our full analysis of it below to help them pick the best possible FPL team this season.

Anyone else think Laporte 5.5 is a overlooked great option??

Potentially, but where is he in a pecking order involving Otamendi, Kompany, Stones and himself? He may actually start GW1 as full back in the absence of Walker and Mendy. I suspect he'll spend the start of most games on the bench rather than on the pitch, but it's impossible to say at the moment, and pre-season won't offer many clues either.

Not really, think he’s actually been priced out of the game with Ota Kompany Stones. Ederson & !endy look the City options at th back

I've considered him but the extra 0.5 for Mendy is well worth it in my opinion.

Absolutely. Laporte carries no attacking threat whereas Mendy should be an assist-machine.

Would going with Zaha/Aguero/Arnie be better than going with Firmino for the beginning seeing as Firmino may be rested? My other Forward are Auba & Kamara.

If fpl had an in app purchase for additional funds would you pay let’s say £20 real money for £10mil additional in game funds?

No way, that would be a horrible addition. The great thing about FPL is that everyone has an equal opportunity to win. It is down to a mix of skill and luck, not down to financial muscle.

No. I'd just stop playing entirely. The option to pay for a transfer ruined one of the other games for me. The ability to pay to buy 3 more premium players would make an absolute mockery of the game.

Games where you can buy loads of teams such as Telegraph are bad enough, but at least the fundamentals of the game are a level playing field.

FPL is best because you can (theoretically) only have one team and it's all level. I therefore spend far longer thinking about moves because it's a one-shot game.

The scenario you paint would be pretty ridiculous.

Nah, I love level playing fields. It's so rare these days with micro transactions in virtually every game.

FPL is the perfect game. It's free, fair and has the perfect skill / luck balance. (In my opinion)

I think Keita is unselectable unfortunately. You can only have 3 Liverpool slots from Alisson, TAA, VVD, Robbo, Mané, Salah, Firmino.... wasting one of those on Keita seems like trying to be a little too clever.

If you have a gut feeling he will do well though by all means go for him. But bear in mind he’ll be doing well to get near what Pogba scored last year, and Pogba is generally stereotypically derided on here for being underwhelming (an incorrect stance imo)

        B. Lacazette should outscore Mané and Keita might outscore Arnie. Prefer an Everton mid however.

So what are people thinking with regard to formations?

What do you normally play, and is this season different? Or are you aiming to have flexibility to switch between a couple of different formations?

      Which formation and why?:
      3-4-3
      3-5-2
      4-5-1
      4-4-2
      4-3-3
      etc.

Normally play with 7 attackers, usually 5 midfielders. Looking like finally going 5 at the back this year though with Salah’s price, and also looking like 1 up front. Should be fun

I've often heard people talking about loading up in defence, but it just seems so odd to me, I couldn't bring myself to do it.

Do you have a template-brain or are you an out-of-the-box thinker?

I'm the latter: 5-4-1/4-5-1 this season for me.

I am always tempted to template, but try to break away from that with regards to selection. Typically by formations are always centred around a 3-4-3, 3-5-2, or 4-4-2

It does feel very counterintuitive when you see only 1 striker in your starting 11, after all we subconsciously associate the mighty striker with the most points. But a couple of 5.5m defenders should easily outscore a 5.5/5.5 striker/midfielder imo.

At least until we know which cutprice attackers will actually bring home the bacon & that could take a few weeks to become clear

      3. DJDave1979
        • 9 Years

Aiming for flexibility but I think I will usually have 4 or 5 in midfield and 1 or 2 strikers. Strikers just don't seem worth the money. The moving of Arnie and Zaha up front just highlighted that for me. I will probably start with Aguero and Auba but if I get Kane, I can see him being on his own at some point.

I put my formation where the value is, never really bothered about which one I'm using as long as it's relatively easy to change from in times of desperation.

4-3-3 at the moment because I feel that is where the value is.
I did not like the cheap mid options and going with five at the back gives less flexibility.
4-3-3 works particulary well with no salah this eanbles you to get a decent defence with attacking threat, a potent midfield and two high priced strikers up top

Might go for a 442 this year, instead of my typical 343'. Strikers option not really to my liking for early run due to world cup.

Either 352 or 442 for me this season. I just think there is much more value in midfield and defence available.

I set up a second team under my wife’s details and trialled 5 at the back all season. Played 5-3-2 or 5-4-1 and only played 4 at the back once or twice due to the small game weeks. The result? She finished 10 points behind me. I didn’t even put as much effort in to it as I should have, so I’m very very tempted to give 5 at the back it’s rightful chance this season.

As much as as Kane's August curse is a thing, can't help thinking that he's nailed+talismanic to spurs. Plus his price makes it easy for a downgrade.
      Thoughts?

      Foster-Lössl
      Robertson-Sakho-Shaw-Cedric-Peltier
      Salah-Mkhitaryan-Richarlison-Jota
      Kane-Aubameyang-Madine

0.5 ITB to spare. Not sure where to invest, if this is indeed viable.

He is talismanic, but I think Spurs are going to make a slow start o the season and therefore Kane is going to pull you down. If Spurs don't perform you are depending on Salah and Auba (plus maybe Robbo), which won't get you far enough, imo.

id prefer Patricio instead of Bennet for sure.. what made me pick Douglas is his attacking ability although i think they will be more defending instead of attacking in PL

        probably Bennett and Douglas.

Possibly Jota, but that could be overload.

B at the minute, I have Cairney instead of C.... is Costa really a prospect? The Reddit Wolves writeup seemed to suggest yes. So I may well get him yet

I think Wolves have loads of exciting options.

        GK 4.5m
Def the only 4m option i the game
        Def 4.5 Doherty, maybe Boly
Def 5m Douglas really excites me
        Mid Neves 5m on pens?
        Jota 6.5 OOP striker.
Str 4.5 Mir if he starts.

None currently but might get whoever becomes the 4.5m defender.

Anyone going with two city mids instead of Kun? It would be quite neat to get 6 points per city clean sheet (assuming both mids play). Also a bit easier on the budget.

Or even 3 City mids? That way you almost get a clean sheet anyways with the three 1 pointers.

Silva, Mahrez, Sané or KDB for example

*obvs 6 points per clean sheet assumes you have a city def/GK

Nice... I’d be looking at those 3 as well... maybe Dilva for Mahrez but can’t make my mind up on them

      A) Richarlison (if Everton), Zaha & Arnie

      B) Felipe Anderson, Tosun, Wood/Mitrovic
