Introduction to the article type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

To start, site regular and moderator Gregor has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team, and please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted, and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Gregor’s RMT

Gunn/McCarthy, Fabianski
VVD, Bailly, Mendy, Cook, Wan-Bissaka
Salah, Silva, Mahrez, Mkhitaryan, Ward
Firmino, Zaha, Mitrovic.

Goalkeepers
Two great value looking goalkeepers for £9m with perfect home and away rotation and good home fixtures to start the season. If there’s doubt over the Southampton number one though I may get Foster and bring Cedric in as my £4.5m defender.

Defenders
I’ve gone with van Dijk over Robertson due to slight concern around Robertson missing the odd game around Champions League ties, if Liverpool get a tough group.

Bailly seems assured to start the season and no reason to think he won’t then keep his place. £5.5m to cover United’s defence looks too good to miss.

Mendy looks underpriced due to previous injury problems, cheaper than Walker and should be good for assists.

What I like about Cook is that he’s very bench-able as you don’t expect much from a Bournemouth defender, but he has the potential to produce when called upon and also offers perfect home and away rotation with Wan-Bissaka, who looks a no brainer for bench fodder at £4m – nice fixtures too.

Midfielders
Salah, the obvious GW1 captain, and I (hope) expect Liverpool to make a strong start before the fixtures stiffen.

Mahrez is nice and rested and Silva looks a great price for a guy seemingly nailed on before the family problems, and City’s fixtures from GW’s 2-7 make a City triple up seem entirely sensible.

Mkhitaryan could be an absolute steal at £7m. Tough opening fixtures but just can’t ignore a player of this quality at that price though.

Cardiff’s Danny Ward as £4.5m bench fodder, subject to change; he has a goal threat which is unusual at this price point, and easy to bench as you would expect Cardiff to struggle.

Forwards
Bobby Firmino up top to further tap into the Liverpool attack, with strong early fixtures and a nice price. I’d be surprised if he’s not fit to start GW1.

Zaha, the Palace talisman with pre-season form and strong early fixtures. I do worry he might move though so also got my eye on Tosun for this slot.

Mitrovic just edges out Austin for my third striker slot for now due to surety of starts, funded by trading Sane for Mahrez. Have always liked Mitrovic and should continue to thrive at Fulham now he’s the main man.

Conclusion

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change?

    Hey all, RMT thanks.

    De Gea, Hamer
    Mendy, Robo, PVA, Coleman, AWB
    Salah, Sane, Richarlison, Neves, Ward
    Kun, Zaha, Wood

Going 433. Like the value in attacking defenders so gone with PVA and Coleman over more in midfield. Is this wise or should I just pick one?

I also know I could save 1mil by getting Ederson and Bailly instead of De Gea and Mendy, but somehow feel the extra 0.5 on each might be worth it. Thoughts?

    Any other issues you see?
    Thanks in advance!

Ederson Bailly is better for me I think, that's a lot saved.

      Really like the team though

Yeh I know, but I’m not actually sure where to use it other than my bench. Unless I change to 343, lose PVA and get Pedro/Jota/etc

        Agreed, good team though.

Better options then neves for me personally but can never underestimate a penalty taker.

Yeh cheers. Probably worth saving the 1.0. Don’t want the double up in city defence though. Want 2 attackers from them for sure.

Hamer is safe only for a little while. After that you have to play DDG all games. Risky imo ^^ Other than that, strong team for 4-3-3 ^^

      1. Jackie Moon
        • 7 Years

I expect I will play DDG every week. Hamer is really just there because he’s at a team I’m never gonna want 3 players from. Not a fan of rotating keepers so pick one and only change if he gets injured or suspended I guess.

      DDG to Ederson
      Mendy to Davies
      Coleman to Luiz
      PVA to Bailly

This then gives you all 5 defense to expected top 5 teams.

Sorloth as a starter is bold.

With Max Meyer incoming at CPL, Sørloth will be benched. Would choose another cheap forward.

      Made a few changes :

      Cedric to Bailly
      Mane to Mahrez
      Sorloth to Zohore
      Schlupp to Peltier

Zohore seems the nailed centre forward for Cardiff, so seems a safer bet and gives me a big improvement in defence with Bailly instead of Cedric. Zohore probably the only weakness in the first XI now?

Changed some things up in order to fit Salah in. Thoughts on this one?

    Ederson
    Robertson Wan-B Shaw
    Sanchez Madders Salah Silva
    Austin Aubameyang Zaha

    Subs: Button, Stephens, Tomkins, Peltier

    Cheers!

      Who is this button?

How about changing Tomkins for Cedric, so you don't have to do AWB in your XI?

Madders is also unknown to me. Other than that, strong team!

Personally avoiding Spurs assets, nonidea how they will start.

Middling fixtures and potentially already tired, at that price you’d want them post international break.

Mkhi might have become more of a rotation risk recently. Check friendlies just before GW1 if he is safe or not.

This is great, hopefully can keep all the RMTs here for the remainder of the season! Definitely clutters up the other articles.

My first post in quite some time, I'm happy with my side here, maybe a couple changes before the season starts, feel free to comment.

    Heaton - 4.0
    Robertson - PVA - Ward/(Luiz) - Johnny - Bissaka
    Sanchez - Mane - Pedro - Jota - Hudson
    Auba - Firmino - Zaha

FWIW, Sanchez will be KDB, Pedro will be Hazard after they return. There's plenty ITB with this current draft.
    ---------------
I'm really not one for a RMT personally, I usually make my own decisions throughout the season by looking at stats and intel from the members section
(highly recommended to those that don't have it already!),
I feel going with your gut in the end tends to work out more often and you feel better about it. That said, I figured I'd get involved to help make this article grow and as I mentioned before it's necessary to keep the RMTs off the regular articles.

Yeah 🙂 It'll take some getting used to, and people with RMTs will have to respond to others, but no reason it can't work!

Looks strong, no real holes. Salahless, obviously.

Great points after the ---------, agree that gut is best and that the members info is great. But every so often when you're really lost an RMT can really help

For sure, I love a good A/B question when stuck between a couple options.

And as much as I'd love to say I'm on the ball all season, there's always a few weeks where life takes over, it's Friday night and you haven't taken a second to look at the team.. It's always nice to jump into the chat and grab a few opinions when there isn't enough time to delve into the members section and do the research.
That said, RMT for me is all difference of opinion, especially pre season. There are hidden gems, but noone knows for sure really until the first couple games are played. Let's see how it plays out!

      Nice Membership promo 😉

I don't like pre-planning transfers, but I may well be in the minority there.

Wouldn't be happy with just Heaton as a keeper. Maybe 2 years ago that would be fine, but there's too many things acting against him this year!

Also, I'd prefer Salah over say Sanchez. I don't think he'll set the league on fire, but he's one of the few players I feel very confident will grab goals in the opening 3 games, and I'm not going to turn my nose up at that!

All your points are valid, Its all speculation at the moment, I only "pre planned" those transfers so I can leave the money ITB, things could definitely change by GW2.
I'm going Salah-less but have Mane, Firmino and Robertson. Just think at the moment there's decent options below his price and would rather spread out the value for now until I reassess and see the value assets in a few weeks.

Heaton is one who could easily change with more news. But I like burnley defense, and his price is reasonable.

I almost always use the comparison tool, usually I'm always deciding between 2-3 players, and checking the stats of the players, their attacking threat and where they are positioned on the field durring games is very helpful.
To pair with that, comparing the team's that those players your deciding on are playing against, can do wonders as well. You'll figure it out, poke around and you'll figure out a good system for yourself.

I think they will be hit hard by World Cup fatigue. Don’t get me wrong they will be fine, but I’m looking for better then fine.

Why would I want a team that may scrape a 1-0/2-1 vs a team that is fresher and had more potential.

True, like the guy above said, could be some tough bench decisions I guess. I've always been one to have two decent subs though rather than one. Might be why I've never finished in the top 50k!

I’d look at a downgrade in some area to upgrade another. Think about how often you would rely on those 1 or 2 pointers.

Conversely, how often have you chosen the exact players and left points on the bench? I’m not claiming I’m perfect, or that price correlates with points, but if you narrow your team down you are potentially narrowing down any mistakes you may make!

    repost

    RMT please

    -------------------------Ederson------------------------------
    --------------Trippier - Daniels - TAA---------------------
Salah - De Bruyne - Lingard - Richarlison - Hughes
    ---------------------Kane - Arnautovic-----------------------

    Subs - Boruc - Cedric - Zanka - Kamara

I know bench is poor but I tend to start with a poor bench and then look at swapping them out once we see the bargains. Sub GK is always a non playing one and will be sticking to this.

Hughes is a good shout, though. Keep him if he seems to be a starter!

    Hi Gregor,

Genuinely, really like the team! If I was going back to 3-4-3 then this is a template I’d be looking at.

    My questions to you:
Would you not prefer a different 7 or less to miki? Apparently not nailed, good options at this price with better form/fixtures?
    How confident over Bobby?
Why’s your confidence over a saints clean sheet?
Not sure about a B’mouth defender as a whole, any other options you’d think?

      Cheers Squishy,

Will monitor the Arsenal team over their final friendlies but £7m is a great price for a player of that calibre, great record over his career and has a good relationship with Aubameyang, looks underpriced and you need to find value in your first line up with a limited budget, plus I fancy Arsenal to get a result against City, could be some goals in that game I reckon!

Klopp seems to think Bobby will be fine, integral to how Liverpool play and two more friendlies to monitor, I am confident he will play.

I wouldn’t say I’m confident of a Saints clean sheet but I do think they’ll improve and £4.5m is a good price for a keeper who should also be good for save points and rotates with Fabianski who looks a steal after last seasons heroics.

Tomkins and Cedric are other good options at £4.5m but Cook is largely there as bench fodder, if one of my big three defenders goes missing though then Cook or Wan-Bissaka can come in and one of them would always have a home fixture. Cook also had a lot of shots in the box last season so not totally reliant on clean sheets.

He is great for that price but if they change formation then he probably is the one that drops out. I’m willing to wait because of two difficult fixtures, and then asess when the fixtures change.

I’d be worried about Bobby - Sturridge has played very well and if there is a time to give him a break after the World Cup it’s when Sturridge is fit and firing. One to watch on Klopps comments.

Thanks for the rotation, didn’t notice so would keep an eye! Agree on all your points here.

I can see why with Cook, but I personally wouldn’t look at Bournemouth, mainly because they are an expansive attacking team. Personal opinion and can see why. Is he still nailed to start, isn’t he getting on a bit?

Yeah, I’ll definitely keep my eye on the Mkhi and Firmino situations. I’m not totally sold on Cook myself and it may change but I don’t really wanna give myself any benching headaches, the dream would be for Jack Simpson to cement a place and then we might have a pair of perfectly rotating £4m bench fodder defenders on our hands!

    Hi Lads, RMT please:

    Ederson
    Bailly - Robertson - Luiz
    Salah - Sanchez - Richarlison - Cairney
    Kun - Zaha - Arnie

Was thinking of getting in Auba and Pedro for Sanchez and Arnie if Pedro is nailed.

Hamer out for regular starting goalie.

Finally we can RMT in a separate article, and tell those who still post RMTs everywhere to stop doing so ^^

    My team:

    Ederson/Fabianski
    Mendy/Shaw/Cedric/AWB/Peltier
    Salah/Mahrez/Richarlison/Deulofeu/Kenedy
    Aubameyang/Firmino/Arnautovic

The idea is: two strong goalkeepers who can rotate, two/three first defenders are regulars, four first mids are regulars, and all three forwards will play. Two last defenders rotate with fifth mid, so my formations will be 4-3-3 and 3-4-3.

Will check whether a couple of them are starters in GW1 or not - looking at you Firmino and Deulofeu, but bar any bad news the team will hold until FPL start. Had this team for 1,5 weeks now, and feel pretty happy about it ^^

    What do you think?

No point rotating Ederson. You're spending 10m on a GK - might as well then do DDgG + 4.0

Shaw is a big risk and may just play first couple of games, if that

      Peltier is injured, I think

      1. Stat Sloth
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

Of course there is a point to rotating goalies? City will not CS against ARS, LIV, MUN, CHE, TOT. Perhaps one CS in total in all of these ten games, with no chance of guessing which. I'd rather have a decent backup.

Peltier is yellow, and CAR has no real backup for him, and he is fifth def.

Shaw is risky, but I am betting on him firing all cylinders from the start and convincing Mou to keep.

I’m a bit advocate of rotating goalkeepers but the issue is you would be dropping a 5.5 asset for a week. And that asset (bar a penalty save) is essentially 6/7 points.

Would it not be better to add attacking returns to that price point and trade a lower value asset to something that could gain you 2 or 3 points even if they concede vs 1 or 2 for an outfield player?

My other logic is that it is one less position to worry about out of 3, compared to a rotational option for a single spot.

      fab > 4.0
cedric > Burnley def or Peltier > 4.5
      Deulofeu is bad, Kenedy fixtures

      1. Stat Sloth
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

4.0 gk = no stable point returns. So no, I will defo not do that ^^

Kenedy is fifth mid, so fixtures are irrelevant.

Deu is bad? Is this your objective conclusion?

Burnley defs could be considered tho, but will have to downgrade somewhere else if I want them.

        Thanks for feedback!

I like having Ederson in my team just for that orange kit.

Re the whole Arsenal situation and the mkhi/ramsey debate i think its best to just go without arsenal for the first two gameweeks unless you really fancy auba over kun. Go for a 6.5 mid and keep 0.5 itb for mkhi if he fires.

Personally I'm plannning on Eriksen and Aguero > Kdb and Auba gw3 with .5 itb.

    First time here. Please RMT.

    GK : Ederson, Hamer
DEF : Robertson, Mendy , Bailly ,Daniels, Wan-Bissaka
MID: Salah, Sanchez, Richarlison, Milivojevic, Masuaku
    FWD: Aguero , Wood, Austin

    Few questions though :

If you have to choose one on the options below:
    a. Bailly or Baines or Coleman? (Want to go with Everton defence given their fixtures but Everton signing Digne might hamper Baines minutes, still not sure if Coleman performs on new Silva system)
    b. Milivojevic or Townsend? (Townsend plays further up but Mili on set pieces) If Townsend is good, I can upgrade Wood to Arnie too

Hi folks. It's soon to be a new season. Last year has been my best season so far in which I ranked 41. I don't think I will ever be topping that again so this shall be a season full of risks. I present to you my team:

different, and i actually quite like it. I guess you know that Darmian is probably a very short term pick, also i think you've got too much invested in keepers. otherwise, pretty cool.

Darmian looks an interesting pick but will he definitely start?
      Schürrle and King risky picks

I think he should start. Frankly speking I am still not quite sure about schurrle, king and sane as you said. I will use the community shield to monitor the city and chelsea players. may even downgrade azpi to one of the chelsea centre backs. and the bench just costs that much for the opening fixture 😀

Okay, so I typically don't post RMT's, but since there's a quarantined area for them, I feel less guilty doing so. So here's my current draft. As you can tell, i've tried to prioritise a strong squad in order to minimise the effect of rotation, but I'm not sure it's working too well. Any specific insights much appreciated 🙂

    Patricio, Norris

Robertson, Mendy, Luiz, TAA, Wan Bissaka

    Salah, Mahrez, Dilva, Ramsey, Romeu

appreciated. Laca is an issue for sure. I could swap out for Firmino but then i'd need another good 5.0 def pick to replace TAA, and i'm not sure any other options offer comparable value at that price. Wilson is also a bit of a punt, but fantastic opening fixtures and pretty good numbers when he's played in the past.

1.0m for upgrades. Might be worth keeping, thoughts on this team?

    Foster (Fab)
    Mendy, Robertson, Cook (Cedric, Wan-B)
    Salah, Sane, Pedro, Richarlison (Stephens)
    Auba, Zaha, Arnie

Could do Pedro -> Mkhi but already have Auba. Thoughts?

I’d monitor the Chelse line up RE Pedro

I wouldn't trust Bournemouth defence. Do you feel Sane and Mendy will play in the same side?

Not awful but not the best.

      Mendy (not guaranteed)
      Robertson (Prefer VVD)
      Cook (Never get Bournemouth defense)
Sane - Eriksen or Mane or Mahrez would be better choices
Pedro - Not nailed down and could be a wasted of mid priced mid, if starts could be a good earner though

      Rest is good.

Thoughts on the crew? I noticed not much love for aguero around here...? Pedro a punt?

    Foster - Fabianski
    Cedric - Cook - Mendy - WanB - Zanka
    Salah - Sane - Richalison - Pedro - Stephens
    Austin - Firmino - Aguero
