Gareth Bale is allegedly a major doubt for Tottenham this weekend, with reports suggesting he suffered a hamstring tear in training for Wales. The winger failed to play in Gary Speed’s memorial match last night, after apparently picking up a Grade 1 tear- this would sideline him for around three weeks.
If Bale is indeed injured, this is hugely significant news for Fantasy managers. The most popular player in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, with a current ownership of 45.6%, he would be set to miss (MUN, eve, STK) if the rumours prove true.
His 10 goals, 9 assists and 21 bonus points have seen the Welshman tear up the division this term, as Bale confirmed himself as a bona fide Fantasy asset, verging on must-have in many’s books.
While there’s no doubt his potential absence would be a bitter blow, it may just prove the catalyst to shake up the identikit midfields that are currently doing the rounds. Off-loading Bale for a cheaper options could free up funds to boost your attack ahead of United’s upcoming fixtures or release more cash to spend in the backline.
Some may even be brave enough to go for the likes of Charlie Adam or Steven Gerrard, with Liverpool’s double Gameweek just around the corner. One thing’s for sure- it would make things a little more interesting.
At present, there is no official confirmation; all we’re doing is giving you a heads-up. Tottenham have remained tight-lipped on the subject, though Harry Redknapp’s Friday morning press conference will perhaps be more eagerly anticipated than ever before on the boards.
