Legomané’s RMT

Rui Patricio, Hart

Robertson, Davies, Tomkins, Cedric, Wan-Bissaka

Salah, Mahrez, Eriksen, Kenedy, McArthur

Aguero, Arnautovic, King

The 2017-18 season nostalgia picks:

A number of players made their way into my squad before the game opened, last season’s returns fresh in mind..

Andrew Robertson’s end of season form was painful to observe as a Virgil van Dijk owner. At 6.0 he is ready to take up the Marcos Alonso mantle of most desirable defensive option in my opinion.

Mo Salah. Not out of fear. For the joy of FPL points.

With Danny Rose progressing to the World Cup Semi-Finals, Ben Davies was always going to be my next defensive target. The defender served many of us well at the beginning of last season, with double-digit potential and rotation over the opening fixtures less of a concern, he’s a must for me. I am conscious that I held onto Davies too long last season – this year I have earmarked Ben Mendy as my exit strategy, as and when.

Similarly, for Sergio Aguero, an early World Cup exit promoted him to the top of my summer watchlist, the anticipation of Brazil reaching the latter stages and rendering Gabriel Jesus a late starter seemed too good to be true. Aguero was a player I brought in ‘early’ last season at the moment everybody else switched from Morata to Firmino, GW17. I held him all the way through to GW32 so am familiar with the rotational fear that accompanies waiting for a City team sheet. I don’t know if he will be a long term pick, or if I’ll shift to Aubameyang after a few weeks (one of my preferred choices before the fixtures were released), but he’s nailed into my GW1 squad for sure.

Marko Arnautovic is another player I earmarked for inclusion at the end of last season. He’s just a fun player to own.

Kenedy is the final player in this group. A player I was keen on bringing into my squad last season, but for numerous reasons, never got round to, and watched on enviously as he returned a brace two or three gameweeks later. My squad structure includes two 5.0m midfielders and despite poor opening fixtures, he’s a player I’m keen to rotate in and out of my starting XI.

The desirables:

With Manchester City’s outrageous fixture run GWs 2-7, doubling up on attack seems bordering on essential. Having opted for Sergio Aguero, I am keen to leave a third slot open for manoeuvre after one or two weeks, once the returning KDB and co. are back in the mix. Riyad Mahrez is the player I’ve chosen. He’s a player that I’ve felt inclined to ignore over the past two season’s since his well earned price hike following the title winning season. But his FPL returns for Leicester last season, 16pts more than Sane make him almost irresistible in the City lineup. De Bruyne may well end up being the long term hold (or a double up partner) but for now, Mahrez IN!

Christian Eriksen is my third premium midfielder and it is the disarray at Spurs that draws me to him. With Kane potentially making a late return to the first team post-WC, I’m expecting the goal-thirsty Denmark version of Eriksen to step up to the mark.

My final desirable is Josh King. Early drafts included Zaha in this spot, and there are one or two 6.5 forwards I wouldn’t completely rule out – Wood, Mitrovic. King’s end of season form was mildly reminiscent to that of the previous season. Early sound bites from King about being unhappy played out of position last season lead me to believe he is about to recapture something of that form.

The uncertainties:

James Tomkins was a Free-Hit player I owned for Blank-Gameweek-35 last season. A modest 6-point return betrayed his involvement on the day, Livescore kept me informed of his numerous efforts on goal – so close to being a Free Hit hero! However, with Aaron Wan-Biassaka providing the role of 4.0 budget pick, I do wonder if doubling on Palace defence is a little much…

Cedric Soares was another early pick, a player that has always flattered to deceive in FPL. I am concerned about Mark Hughes ability to muster defensive resolve in his back line, not to mention a tummy bug denting his preseason return, so this 4.5 slot is very much up for grabs.

James McArthur was a non-pick last season thanks to the kindly priced Luka Milivojevic. However his goal scoring heroics did not go unnoticed. The arrival of Kouyate (and potentially RLC) could be a concern with the midfield options available to Hodgson fairly numerous. Helder Costa, Ruben Neves and Tom Cairney are all side steps I’m considering.

The Goal keeper pair is something I’ve toyed with a little. Pre-price releases, Dubravka at 4.5 was pencilled in as a potential set and forget, but with the early fixture run, a 5.0 valuation and the arrival and modest pricing of Portugese legend Rui Patricio at Wolves, my head has been well and truly turned!

Tapping in to Sean Dyche’s backline is something that I’ve been conscious of tinkering with since the game opened. With the defensive options receiving a token 5.0m valuation across the board, I see Joe Hart (assuming he hasn’t been brought in as cover for Lindegard!) as a reasonable budget route into the Burnley backline for the short to medium term – a spell that includes a very enticing opening run of fixtures.

Conclusion

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

    Please rate my MID/FWDs:

Salah - Mane - Richarlison - Jota (Jorginho)
    Aguero - Aubameyang - King

You don't want to see my GK (2 x 4.5) and DEF (3 x 4.5; 2 x 4.0) - Last season was the first I went with a strong defence from the start and ended up having my worst season ever, so going back to a weak defence rotating every week!

    Robbo-pva-Coleman (Peltier, wb)

    Salah, Mane, Richarlison, bilva(ralls)

    Kun, zaha, king

    Itb. 0,5.

Givning Coleman 2-3 weeks to surprise, else change to other premium.(possibly arsenal from gw 3)

Having ralls as 1st sub for the start to see which 4,5 midfielder who hits the ground running (?)

Keepin 0,5 itb to have flexibility to upgrade king or defense when the smoke of season start disappear.

Now you will need to bench one of the front 8 every week.. a lot of money on the bench.

          Mkhi not certain..

Mkhi to 4.5 benchfodder and upgrade one of Bernard/Schürrle/mayer to a premium. Gives u more flexibility also

Your team is similar to mine, but you have downgraded Aube to Arnie to afford Mendy and Mane. Honestly? I prefer my team because a downgrade from Aube to Firmino is easy.

      Ederson - Stek
      Robbo - Luiz - Kabesele - WanBiss - Peltier
      Salah - Bilva - Richarlison - Jota - Stephens
      Aguero - Aube - King

I've went with 3 big GKs/DEFs because ideally I don't want to touch my defence this season, want subs to go elsewhere.

Firmino maybe but I just prefer Mane + 6.5m striker to Firmino + 6.5m mid.

        Thanks for the feedback.

Tomkins --> PVA would appeal to me, or upgrading either Rui --> 5.5 like Ederson (You'd have to drop Mendy) or upgrade Hamer to a 4.5. Possibly Peltier --> Cook or a Watford defender as a nice bench backup? Otherwise I'd hold on to it.

It's a solid and safe team, with good balance across.

Any other 4.5m midfielders who are not risky? Chance of Hudson-Odoi getting game time in the first couple of weeks, he is a last resort option really. Shaw will start the season imo, looks one of the only somewhat guaranteed united defenders.

Stelk will drop to 3.9 once Pickford is back.

Why not get Ederson in goal, save yourself 0.5 over DDG, drop Mendy for Bavies?

Good shout about Stek but he might rise in price first. I need to figure out who is the best option as a 4.0 goalkeeper.

Thinking about Ederson but I like Mendy's attacking output. B.Davies is tempting too though.

      Similar to mine (see below).

You have DDG, Doherty, Jota and King, I have Patricio, Luiz, Rich and Zaha.

The problem with a premium keeper is that you it too tempting to shift to a cheaper one..but like DDG

Looks good - better 4.5m options than Doherty perhaps?

Do you like my team? 🙂
Maybe do Arnie/Zaha and Stephens -> King and Cairney?

    Patricio
    Robertson/Mendy/Luiz
    Salah/Mane/Bilva/Rich
    Aguero/Arnie/Zaha

    Bench: Hamer, Stephens, W-B, Peltier

Not 100% sold on Luiz as a long terms starter, but sound elsewhere.

Maybe Tomkins instead and use 1.0 elsewhere? If downgrade Arnie -> King I can afford Bilva -> Mahrez..

This is a massive headache in terms of formation, not happy with the 4.5m players! Any help would be massively appreciated.

    Pick - Foster
    Mendy - Robbo - Tomkins - Bamba - WB
    Salah - Dilva - Jota - Richarlison - Stephens
    Auba - Kun - Kamara.

May downgrade Pickford to save 0.5m, there on I'm stuck!

You can get Peltier over Bamba and B.Silva over D.Silva. This should give you a bit more money to play around with.

Yeah, personally I would downgrade a keeper, Bamba, and even one of Mendy/Robbo, to upgrade Kamara to King or Arnie. This doesnt look like a team that could play 3-4-3 or 3-5-2, so the balance is a bit wrong I think.

I'd want to see your bench before passing comment, but not sure about Pedro, big risk of rotation there with Willian, especially after the opening weeks

Kompany also a risky pick and Daniels facing heavy rotation after GW 3

    HELP NEEDED!

Lerma or Dendoncker as cheap £4.5mil sub?

Richarlison, Madison or Jota? All have potential to do great and get goals. Swaying on taking a punt on Madison as set pieces?

I have Stephens as 4.5 midfielder and Jota as 6.5 midfielder.

I think either of those mids will do well, you could draw names from a hat and still be happy. I'd go with Rich just because he's proven and fixtures favour him, Jota could explode though.

Had Stephens and changed him out.

And couldn't decide between the other 3 as you say all in there own way could smash it!

Not sold on Hart myself, better 4.5s out there I think. Rest is good.
