There were a few surprise selections in Unai Emery and Pep Guardiola’s starting XIs ahead of this afternoon’s 16:00 BST encounter between Arsenal and Manchester City at the Emirates.

The headline news was perhaps Raheem Sterling‘s (£11.0m) inclusion in the City line-up, although Guardiola had teased the prospect of that possibility in his press conference on Friday.

Leroy Sane (£9.5m) is the fall-guy in the Sky Blues’ line-up, to the chagrin of the 14.3% of FPL managers who own the wide-midfielder.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m), another late returner after his World Cup exertions, starts on the bench for the reigning Premier League champions this afternoon.

The rest of Guardiola’s starting XI is perhaps as expected, with Sergio Aguero (£11.0m) leading the line and Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) handed his City league debut.

Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) always looked at some risk of being benched for the visit of City and the French forward indeed starts among Arsenal’s substitutes, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) fielded as the spearhead of the Gunners’ attack.

Though not likely to cause many ructions in the Fantasy community, Matteo Guendouzi (£4.5m) – who admittedly has had a fine pre-season for Emery’s side – has been preferred to the more experienced Lucas Torreira (£5.0m) in the engine room. Aaron Ramsey (£7.5m) also gets a start for the Gunners.

Nacho Monreal (£5.5m) has failed to prove his fitness, so FPL midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles (£4.5m) deputises at left-back.

Arsenal XI (4-3-3): Cech; Bellerin, Mustafi, Sokratis, Maitland-Niles; Xhaka, Guendouzi, Ramsey; Ozil, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang

Manchester City XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Mendy; Fernandinho, Gundogan; Bernardo, Mahrez, Sterling; Aguero

I am so worried about Aguero and Mahrez in my team right now. Will they even start against Huddersfield?

If he was more precise/lucky he would've got 2 goals (FK and the one shot near the right post).

Maddison seems like one of those players that could fly under the casual radar, steadily racking up assists. Especially with Richarlison in the same price bracket. Anyone getting him in this week?

The more I think about it, I might just hold tight on a -4 for Mendy (even though I just want to do it, and get the transfer out of the way). With my luck he'll get sent off or something.

On to next week though - play Fabianski or Foster?

Does anyone have access to historical FPL stats. Would love to know how many forwards since Suarez have scored 250 points or more in a season. I don’t know if it’s been all that many? Vs. There must have been a good few mids?

    RICHARLISON PHYSIO UPDATE

2-3 minutes prior to Richarlisons substitution, we are able to witness the Brazilian sprinting at full pace as he marauds towards the Wolves goal. He is then tackled, but is back on his feet swiftly and accelerates back to help defend. At this point he is moving freely and fluidly without deficits.

The tv footage then focuses on another everton attack, which is conspiciously bereft of Richarlison on the left. The camera then pans to the Moutinho substitution for Wolves and then to Richarlison lying supine on the pitch, being treated by the Everton physio. So we can assume that he went down after his previous maximal effort up and down the pitch. The physio appears to be assessing his right calf muscles.

The next pertinent shot we see is Richarlison being led from the pitch.

There are several positives we can take from this footage. Firstly, he is walking off a little ‘gingerly’ with very slight inhibited flexion at the right ankle, but un-aided and he does not appear to be in much discomfort. Secondly and more pertinently, as he is walking towards the touch-line he turns right around his left side to look back and applaud the fans. This is interesting because this movement would naturally extend the right gastrocnemius and soleus (calf muscles) to an almost full extent. He shows no inhibitions and no dis-comfort during this movement.

As an educated opinion I would suggest that the Brazilian was just fatigued and spent from a maximal effort on a big money debut and suffered some cramping of the gatrocnemius. Additionally, a few minutes later we witness Richarlison sitting in the dug-out with the other players. If the medics were worried about his injury he would have been taken straight to the treatment room for a thorough assessment. All in all, I would imagine he will be fine to start next weekend.

As also having an 'educated opinion', time of the match, being down to 10 men, no sudden pulling up, I think cramp would explain this. Severity wise, your right - no march down the tunnel, no ice on his calf. Will be sore the next day but likely good to go for next week.

Ps not sure about the turning to the crowd being an indicator of severity! But good comment for managers on here, keep it up.

its the observation about the muscular function undertaken in the action of turning that makes sense. if he has damaged a particular muscle then a particular rotation of the ankle joint would be impaired. that's what he's getting at with that comment.

Hhhhmmm ok, so which muscle are we talking about here which is aggravated by rotation? Gastroc/Soleus/TP? You could argue perhaps with multi-segmental rotation to the left that this would put a strain on his TP as it supports his medial arch. In terms of it being a functional muscle test for gastroc/soleus complex I think is a reach.

Either way it was good information for those without a 'educated opinion', and I hope it helps some of the guys on here.

try to think of musculo-skeletal mechanics in terms of a 'chain' rather than individual processes. With the palmer aspect of the foot planted, any rotation at the thoracic spine will also stress the gastroc and soleus (the muscles which appeared to have deficits). So although not a functional test per se, if he had any significant injury in the area he would have felt some dis-comfort and none was witnessed. These are little clues we can pick up on. P.S. worked for Stoke City for 5 seasons as a physio.

Cool, also work in pro sport. Don’t disagree with your regional interdependence view, (hence the line on multi-segmenta rotation). Just not sure it added any weight. As a Physio you know though if it was a tear of any significant grade he would of been struggling to ambulate. Again though, your prognosis would be valuable to those who are not familiar with injury severity.

Thanks Facer. Still in its acute phase though, as an owner, I wouldn't sell, but as a purchaser, I'd wait til more news from Eve in a couple of days. Price rises/drops are so negligible at this stage anyway, but bandwagons will be bandwagons.

I’m struggling to understand (as a novice at this) why you say price rises at this stage are so negligible? Surely, if you spent exactly £100m, have nothing ITB and you want to swap one 6.5 out and Richarlison in but he has risen 0.1 to 6.6......

because 0.1 can be made up easily. later if a player goes up continuously then 0.4 or more is harder to find

More in the context of any rush to judgment, but yes, in the scenario of 0 itb, & wanting an immediate change for the next gw, then keeping an eye on potential price change sites makes sense. I just prefer to wait as close to game times as possible, lessening the chance of a wasted xfer.

he got a kick early in the game then got cramp.

just get him in an ice bath, oxygen tent, or inject him with supplies of his own blood or what ever they do these days and get him back out there!
