Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 2 set-piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the first of a new series of Members articles we will assess where set play situations can be exploited each week.

Where this differs from the set-pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set-piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set-piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have round of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 2. For example, Junior Stanislas is an important figure in set-pieces for Bournemouth but will not feature at West Ham through injury, so we have removed him the list of potential takers for this weekend’s match.

Cardiff cs is more likely than Chelsea cs. So i would start Peltier. Why does everyone believe Luiz is better option?!? Attacking points or baps?

      1. Ron_Swanson

I think Chelsea have a much better chance of a CS than Cardiff

Is it? Cardiff are the worst side in the league; their clean sheet chances are poor every week.

As a Peltier owner, he is second or third sub every week, depending on whether AWB has a better or worse fixture (this week, Peltier second and AWB third). I picked three defenders I expect to start 9/10 games

        1. Regin
          • 8 Years

Arsenal are poor against stronger teams. Newcastle could have easily scored 3 against the tot, so Cardiff cs less likely.

That's the point I was making. Even if Arsenal weren't so bad v better sides, I think you would be hard pressed to ever back Peltier above a top half defender

Luiz. Better defence, team and could score.

Mitrovic looked fairly impressive on MOTD. Think I might start him over Jota. Need to play 3 out of Jota, Maddison, King and Mitrovic

I dunno, Fulham are a bit lacking in the creativity department and he seems the type of player than needs a few chances to score. I'd likely play Jota, Spurs should be more solid after getting GW1 under their belt!

I would lean towards benching Mitrovic, but not convinced with Jota. I wasn't impressed with Spurs and getting them early on in the season might be their best chance.

I'm 80 at 187 and 17, and am not fat at all. So I don't think that's fat, unless you've got no muscle mass at all. In which case there might be a little flab. But nah that serms like a healthy weight

Too tight to call IMO, also depends if you have any attackers playing against them, i.e. King against Fab.

Thanks but I never get that logic when people on here say that. Owning a player doesn’t make him more/less likely to score against an opponent. In fact my thinking would be that if your attacker didn’t score it would mean there was a better chance of a clean sheet for your defender

Isn’t the logic that the potential points ceiling is higher if your attack isn’t playing your defence?

Yes but if it’s say Agureo playing them fair enough but if only someone like King playing it wouldn’t stop me from playing a defender who is playing against king as usually king will score or defender will keep a cleanie. But I get what your saying but just as easily two players not playing against each other could both blank

Yeah totally fine, most people have gone down the route of one premium striker to invest more money into defence and midfield given the World Cup hangover.

I think I remember reading something like the top 7/8 points scorers from last year were midfielders - for me, premium midfielders are the way to go.

      Hey guys,

I am new to FPL and it is my first season to play. I am lucky enough to have 86 points at GW1, but I face some difficulties to make transfer this week. Any thoughts on my team?

      DDG
      Van Dijk Walker Tarkowski
      Jota Mane(C) Neves Sanchez
      Firmino Rashford Aguero.

      A. Rashford change for Zaha / King / Arnie
      B. Jota change for Maddison
      C. Keep / Other transfer suggestions.

Save your FT this week, everything looks OK.
        Next week I would:
Downgrade Rashford (he won't score many under Mou) > 6.0/6.5m striker
Use money to upgrade a MID

Hope you're enjoying it so far.

It's a good team but there are two things I'd look to change - one being the double Wolves midfield and the second being Rashford.

Given you have Aguero and Firmino I'd consider downgrading Rashford to a non-playing 3rd striker to find the money to upgrade Jota to a better midfielder. How about selling Rashford (7.0), selling Jota (6.5) and replacing with Kamara (4.5 - bench fodder) and Pogba (8.1)?

Or if you don't fancy that, a straight swap out Rashford to one of your other suggestions - I'd go Zaha although this GW isn't the best.

Cheers mate, I am having so much fun with it.

yes, those 2 changes are mistakes by me. The idea of downgrading rashford to a midfield is a great idea and maybe i will hold and hv 2 FT next week.

Zaha is also a great pick, but maybe after the game against Liverpool.

Is KDB good pick this season?

Hes ~200pts per season but could Mahrez/BSilva/Silva take some minutes off him.

Maybe Mahrez will get some FKs and corners too
They will go far in all competitions this season CL too i think.

        I'll ask some for you.

Kane or Salah to be top scorer if you're gambling?

I'll throw a left field choice, Aguero

I want to mute him. I try to have a conversation with him but he just ignores and goes to the next inane question. Pure sarcasm from now on.

      Help please
I got 1 spot for a defender and the choices are Peltier, Wan Bissaka and Kabasele

But I also got Firmino and Salah so I probably wouldnt go with wan biss.

Im leaning towards cardiff having a better chance of clean sheet at home against newcastle than watford(burnley away).

      What do you think?

      Thanks!

I think you're probably right. Go Peltier for now, with Kabasele 1st bench.

I really, really don't think Cardiff have a better chance at a CS...

        Go Kabasele

Hey guys. So at what point does it become clear that Mo isn't essential for us that have him? If in the end he turns out to not justifying his price then those that didn't own him could be out of sight already

Play the fixtures and you might earn more value from him

Hold until first WC / when a premium explodes and becomes essential.

He scored didn’t he? Don’t understand comments such as this. His returns are so consistent

        I don't like this logic.

"If the pick I chose happens to backfire, I'll be further behind those who chose differently."

If you can use the same argument to justify both owning Salah, and not owning Salah, then it's meaningless...

in your opinion, what must he do in order to justify his price tag? many still go for kun even when he's rotation risk.

If a handful cheaper alternatives become desirable and consistent captains emerge then Salah may become surplus to requirements. That hasn't happened as of yet. For now it's a wait and see but it's easier to have him imo than not have him and be tryna get him in.

Any merit in going VVD to Robbo or TAA this week, or hold for 2FT next week

      Fab
      Mendy VVD Luiz Peltier
      Salah Bilva Jota
      Firmino Aguero Mitrovic
      (Ryan, Mooy, AWB, Cairney)

Liverpool have some tough games after Brighton in GW3. I'll wait till after, maybe WC him in but for now VVD is the Pool defender I've chosen and that's how it'll stay

Few days ago but was good. If that was in England you would see the players running to Rooney, in America the players just ran to the goalscorer.
