Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 3 set piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the second of a new series of Members articles we assess once again where set play situations can be exploited.

Where this differs from the Set Pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have two rounds of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 3.

Should have done this before the first round of price rises, need to do it before tonight

    Jota + Bailly + Arnie > Mkhi + Alonso + Kamara (-4)

    DdG
    Mendy - Alonso* - TAA - Daniels
    Salah - Mané - Mkhi* - Richy
    Aguero - Zaha

    Hamer - WB - Stephens - Kamara*

Mkhi rising tonight, tempted to get him in for Bernardo as my 2nd FT.

However, he was a rotation risk going into the season, and one good performance surely won't make him nailed, is anyone else worried about this?

    1. Cheeky Onion
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 4 months ago

Emery doesn’t seem to fancy Ozil which I hope secures Mkhi’s place as the main playmaker going forward. Great value even with a bit of rotation

      1. willl
        • 10 Years

Ramsey and Lacazette both on the bench last match, have to imagine they both need to fit in somewhere.

I just can't see Mkhi playing more than 2 out of every 3 games, which is too much rotation imo.

I have Auba already so not too worried about not having enough Arsenal.

Yes much prefer Pedro who is so suited to Sarri system and 2 great home fixtures v Bournemouth and Cardiff after Newcastle away. Shoe in to start with Hazard with Willian benched in my view. Mkhitaryian one bad game away from a benching and Arsenal not settling with new manager as quickly as Chelsea

        Got Hazard in already.

It's either save FT and continue with Bernardo or switch to Mkhi for me currently, edging towards saving more.

I got mikhi for Jota this week. He has great fixtures but I'm not sure Emery can get away with playing two luxury players like mikhi and oz who are defensive liabilities. Out of the two I would bench oz but I doubt if Emery has the cojones to do that.

Yeah the chance that actually had me on the edge of my seat at the time lol. Good point Mama - but in the past few games he's had few clear cut chances. I need Arsenal coverage so bringing Mkhi in for BSilva gives me the .5 I need to bring a proper defender in for Bailly. United's defence is shocking.

If you had 5M to spend on a defender (already own TAA), who would you pick?

In all honesty, I’d rather it be a 4.5M if anyone has any good ideas.

Considering pereira, but heard Chilwell has actually looked better. Is this true?

I’m terms of 4.5Ms, thinking Adam Smith.

    1. Ruth_NZ
      • 10 Years

I did that move yesterday. Ings should be a 6.0/6.5m forward, even playing for a lower mid-table team.

      We have no good strikers.

If Ings can stay fit, and that's a big if. I genuinely think he's nailed and will get 15+ goals this year.

      That or we'll be relegated...

      DDG.

Hamer is the worst keeper I've ever seen at this level and probably won't play.

The upcoming international fixtures - do most quality starters in the premier league usually participate? I'm keen to wildcard this week but concerned that the 2 week break will impact form, which seems to come in 4-6 week bursts, or result in injuries to players in my wildcard team.

Not a solid team, and he's right to wildcard now. A difference between a good player and a player who "knows" you should wildcard during the international break.

Looking forward to seeing what his new team is.

        You feeling okay?

If he capped Aguero he would have been in the top 50k easily... how is that not solid? hahaha

He has Jota, King, underperforming Eriksen 9.5 and W-B banned with no bench whatsoever.

Honestly it’s the perfect time to WC. I really have a good feeling.

I’ve sold players like Auba and will buy them back Friday at a cut price. Made a fortune on the market too. I’m up to 101.6 already. Admittedly some of those need a double rise.

Fairly solid start (171 points), but i'm seriously considering a WC this week (quite possibly through boredom). Is it silly to make the following moves? I should hold off right...I know I should...shouldn't I??

    Current:
    Ryan Hamer
    Tomkins Wan-Bis . Robertson . Mendy . Peltier
    Salah . Mane . Mahrez . Richarlison . Stephens
    Aguero . Ings . Zaha

    WC:
    Ryan Hamer
    Alonso Wan-Bis . Robertson . Mendy . Bennett
    Salah . Mane . Mkhi . Richarlison . Hughes
    Aguero . Ings . Zaha

    Any thoughts appreciated

Just do it for -4 then

    2. Four Hit Wonder
      • 8 Years

So basically you'd wildcard and then end up with almost the exact same team?

      1. Royston7
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

it's not though is it...it gives loads more flexibility...bring in a playing (and in form) 5th midfielder, and Chelsea and Arsenal cover for good fixtures, with players that may be unaffordable in a few weeks

        1. Four Hit Wonder
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 4 months ago

It is, because 11/15 players stay the same, and 2/15 are new because of the 2/15 you actually want in your team (Alonso, Miki).

So just do the transfers you want and take a hit. Leave the wildcard for when your team needs surgery.

Note: I did take a -4 hit to bring in Alonso (I also downgraded Eriksen to Miki), for one reason only - I'll never pay more than 6.5 for a defender. If Alonso goes up to 6.8 he'll be unavailable to me for the entire season. So I paid 4 pts to bring him in at 6.5, and if he scores again then I got pure gold which is unavailable to most other players.

So yeah, I'm supporting your moves, but not at the price of a wildcard.

Thanks, yeah that makes total sense...ended up taking a -4, and you're right saving the WC will be far more valuable in the long run

Is it that baffling? Get Chelsea and Arsenal cover for good fixtures, can play 3 or 4 at the back (if you think Wan-Bis is a potential starter), and 4 or 5 in midfield. I can't see my WC team in 3 or 4 weeks looking much different, but it may be unaffordable by then

stick with what you've got, you can achieve the changes with a couple of -4's here and there.

4 changes, two of which are for the bench.... Definitely not a WC in my opinion. I'd only WC with around 10 changes to my team.

Looks nice! I'd personally question having both Cairney and Ings as it gives you a rotation headache. I'd downgrade Cairney to a 4.5 and use the money on improving Cedric going forward.
