The ScoutCast Episode 265 – Difference

This week the ScoutCast crew are determined to bust the myth that they share identical strategies.

Long-term maverick Luke returns to reveal his freshly Wildcarded team which bravely went into Gameweek 2 without Manchester City’s hat-trick hero Sergio Aguero and last season’s points-scoring sensation Mohamed Salah.

In stark contrast, Az is continuing his march up the rankings thanks to his faith in this premium pair, and his resolve in resisting broadsheet tittle-tattle hinting that the Argentinian would be dropped.

David is also beating a different drum and keen to explain the reasons behind his chequered FPL history and how his fortunes already look better this time around.

That leaves me as the only dullard representative, armed with a bunch of ownership statistics, a goals imminent table and a dubious ‘camping’ excuse to explain my recent poor captaincy decision.

Our differing views across a range of key issues facing Fantasy Premier League manages ahead of Gameweek 3 are aired.

Our assessment of Chelsea and Arsenal assets ahead of their favourable fixtures is top of our list. And we also ponder whether Spurs’ players can compete as assets this season and indulge in some bargain hunting up front.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

People are being fickle. King was everything when he got a hattie against Marseille. Now everyone wants him out. Mikhi was a pariah last week, now everyone wants him in. It’s two games into the season! And people already want to ship out Firmino and BSilva?! Haven’t people learnt that players can score and assist one week and blank the next? Firmino could get a Hattie against Brighton and Mane could get sent off. Consider your moves, people. If you decided to get a player in, there must have been a reason for it. Stick to your guns. The only reason to transfer after two games is if the player picked isn’t actually playing.

I can kind of understand why you'd get rid of King (though personally I'm keeping) but the Bilva to Mkhi move is really confusing me.

      Bilva:
Not nailed on but close to that.

Plays for the best attack in the league.

      Top quality playmaker.

      Mkhi:
Plays for a very good attack but not as good as City's.

Not nailed as Lacazette may push him out of the XI.

      Inconsistent playmaker.

Only thing that Mkhi has going that Bilva doesn't is price, in my opinion. Other than that, Bilva beats him.

      1. Twisted Saltergater
        • 14 Years
        5 years, 8 months ago

I think it's more BSilva is a coverage attacking option, which is never a good thing. Yes, he may score or assist, but perhaps it's more likely that Aguero, Jesus, Sterling, Mahrez, Dilva do?

Mkhitaryan is a shade more likely to score and is perhaps playing further advanced. He's by no means nailed though.

        1. Siggy in the Middle
          • 8 Years
          5 years, 8 months ago

I think Bilva is as likely as most City players to get assists. Very attacking and very skilled. Doesn't have as much competition as the wingers either.

          1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
            • 14 Years
            5 years, 8 months ago

I think Bilva’s sky blue shirt is clouding people’s judgement. For me he doesn’t offer any more threat than Richa, Theo, Mkhi, and maybe even Pedro, but is more expensive.

He’s well capable of sitting on the peripheral of city’s attack and assisting the assister to the assist.

Those other 4 much better picks imho.

If City go back to four at the back I think Bilva is a great option in midfield. With four at the back Sterling and Mahrez don't even start so I dont see an issue with Bilva

          1. Twisted Saltergater
            • 14 Years

Wouldn't Pep's first choice midfield 3 be Dilva, Gundog and Fernandinho?

That leave Sterling, Mahrez, Mané and BSilva (and arguably Jesus) fighting for 2 spots.

I just looked at their points from last year to see if there was anything there. If you only count their points from goals, assists, clean sheets, and bonus, their points were exactly the same. For me, Mkhitaryan's price was why i had him in the first place. Now, I'm keeping him because I think he will be one of only a few Arsenal players to get attacking points, while B.Silva will share returns with more players. I also think he will eventually lose his place to Sane if they stick with a 3-5-2.

Quite honestly? I think people just get bored. If there is no need to make a transfer, it removes the gamified element that people love. 38 weeks is a long time and I get the feeling it can be arduous for some if they don't make changes every week, even if there is no need.

Firmino trained away from the team today and players like Zaha, Arnie & Ings (probably many others) could match him this week, not even taking into account what you do with the extra funds...

Well said. However there are times when you have to admit defeat with a player - I'm looking at you Jota, and at you Bailly - and move on. The best managers are the ones who are able to consistently determine which players to stay patient with or not. That's the game in a nutshell

    9. RAFA THE GAFFA

    10. WesMantooth

      I agree with the sentiment.

But also, making moves is what makes a good rank great. 2 weeks is a small sample size, but one can definately get some information which makes a move worth taking. The balance of being confident in your initial selection, whilst identifying your teams flaws and the right pieces to fit in, is a work of art.

Some might have started with king, seeing him more as a placeholder before settling on their choice of budgetstriker. I wanted to start with ings in his position, but the uncertainty of when he would become a starter put me on king as an initial selection instead.

Same with eriksen. Didn't want to commit to an arsenal asset and with poor fix and uncertainty of who would start. Ahead of their nice run, I now feel more confident in Mkhitaryan and love his pricepoints.

You can preach patience and have all the logic in the world behind you, butto maximize points, you do have to change up your initial selections at some stage.

Cool. Madisson and Pereyra also looking good right now but those 3 have more PL experience. The good thing with some 6.5 -7.5 picks now is if Alli doesn't shine he's easier to replace than if you don't have him too much shuffling to get him later.

Bit harsh, apologies. I just saw you recommending Dilva who is only 0.5 less and he's a trash FPL option. His best ever season in FPL is 191 points. Just 3 points above Dele's average.

Not to mention he's only getting 60 minutes at best and could be rotated.

Park FPL for one second, realising it's the main thing.

David Silva is a genius. Alli will never have the technical ability or temperament of Silva.

Back to FPL: Alli is the man 😉

        Salah; Mane; Rich; Mkhi
        Kun; King; Kamara
