Watchlist Update – Arsenal fixture swing and Alonso form are key changes

Our Watchlist player rankings have now been revised following the first two Gameweeks of the 2018/19 season.

The Watchlist can be found in your sidebar on desktop, or via your slide-in menu on mobile or tablet. It acts as a collection of our current thoughts on player selection for each position, also citing the factors that affect their ranking on the list.

As a general rule, we try to commit to just one player per position per club. However, in some cases we where we believe double-coverage is advisable, two players will be listed instead. We’ve got further examples of that this week.

Form continues to play the overriding role in the factors available to us given that we are just two weeks into the season.

GOALKEEPERS

Ederson (£5.5m) sits atop the list of goalkeepers still, even if Manchester City failed to keep a clean sheet against Huddersfield. Even still, his assist for Sergio Aguero’s (£11.1m) first goal means he has averaged 6.5 points per game so far this season, and still has a favourable run of fixtures.

Petr Cech (£5.0m) rises slightly now that Arsenal have come out on the other side of a tough opening two Gameweeks and now face a more favourable run of matches.

Despite Cardiff’s tough fixtures, Neil Etheridge (£4.5m) simply had to go into the Watchlist after saving two penalties in as many Gameweeks.

DEFENDERS

Now without a rotation risk, Marcos Alonso’s (£6.6m) third attacking return in two Gameweeks sees him jump up the rankings. The Chelsea man is now behind only Benjamin Mendy (£6.2m) and Andrew Robertson (£6.0m), who remain the top two. Both players are still in top form and continue to have great fixtures.

Luke Shaw (£5.1m) receives similar treatment now that he has two two goal involvements in as many Gameweeks to the start the 2018/19 campaign.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s (£4.1m) red card in Gameweek 2 rules him out of Gameweek 3, damaging his appeal somewhat. However, the extreme value he offers in a strong defence means the Crystal Palace man remains in the Watchlist for his Gameweek 4 return.

Steve Cook (£4.6m) has shot right up after his goal and assist against West Ham, adding to his six-point haul from Gameweek 1.

Ricardo Pereira (£5.0m) makes a deserved appearance in the list after making it two assists in two as Leicester beat Wolves in Gameweek 2. As you will have seen from our latest Big Numbers article, he has the potential for more attacking returns this season.

After returning from World Cup leave in Gameweek 2, Kieran Trippier (£6.0m) gets a mention now that he has wrestled some set piece responsibilities away from Christian Eriksen (£9.5m).

MIDFIELDERS

The form and fixtures of Mohamed Salah (£13.0m), Richarlison (£6.8m) and Sadio Mané (£9.8m) make them the top three midfield options in FPL right now.

Joining them in the top four of the Watchlist is Arsenal man Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.1m) after his goal and assist against Chelsea. The Gunners now have a run of favourable games until a home meeting with Liverpool in Gameweek 11. The only factor that could detract from Mkhitaryan’s appeal is a slight risk of rotation with Arsenal’s front-three a little unsettled currently.

Pedro (£6.6m) remains the highest Chelsea option after scoring twice in the first two Gameweeks, although he still carries some rotation risk. That’s because Eden Hazard (£10.5m) is pushing a return to the side although Maurizio Sarri still seems to insist he is not ready to start matches yet.

Even though he played at right wing-back against Huddersfield and was not involved in any of Manchester City’s goals, Bernardo Silva (£7.6m) keeps his place as the highest rated midfielder from the champions, simply on account of his likelihood of starts. The absence of Kevin de Bruyne (£9.8m) and his versatility make him harder to drop than most of his team-mates right now. Meanwhile, Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) loses his place in the list having registered just 85 minutes in two matches so far.

Ryan Fraser (£5.5m) receives a boost as his form continues ahead of long period of appealing fixtures for Bournemouth. The Scottish winger now has a goal and an assist in his first two outings with a porous Everton defence up next for him at the Vitality Stadium. James Maddison’s (£6.5m) first goal of the season also sneaks him into the Watchlist.

FORWARDS

That Arsenal fixture swing has propelled Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) up the rankings. However, he is still marked with a C for form after failing to record any attacking returns in the first two Gameweeks.

Conversely, Callum Wilson (£6.1m) has three to his name making it very difficult for us not to push him up the Watchlist with Everton coming to Bournemouth this week.

Harry Kane (£12.5m) is also on the rise after finally proving he is capable of scoring a Premier League goal in August. However, we can’t attach fixtures as factor to him until after Tottenham have got a Gameweek 3 trip to Manchester United out of the way.

Differential Danny Ings (£5.5m) has managed 10 goal attempts in the first two matches, getting himself a goal against Everton in Gameweek 2. While Southampton’s fixtures are a little uninspiring, the former Burnley and Liverpool man can offer value at his price point.

Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) continues to fall down the Watchlist. Salah and Mané are clearly the go-to attacking options with defence also needed to be covered by the three-player Liverpool allocation.

    Crazy plan for GW3 = Mkhitaryan(C).
I've just made him my captain, but I might chicken out and switch to Salah or Aguero tomorrow.
    Stick or switch?

Go with your gut, it’s a great differential... the sort of move that could split the pack if it turns out for you.

Differential worked for me in 2010/11. Ranked 1,995 worldwide at the end of the season. Not the best, but it was a decent season.

Wasn't focused on FF. Over the past few years, I only logged in to make changes the night before GW or the same day, most times I forgot to make changes.
I want to see if I can perform better this year, well for now! 🙂

Switch to Salah, Salah at 13m is not worth it but captain Salah is.

Switch. I'd guess Mkhitaryan's ownership is still pretty low so a haul would be great for you with or without the armband. Same can't be said for the other two.

Not saying I am doing this but with fixtures swinging against Liverpool in favour of Chelsea and Arsenal how would this be decent line up from week 4 ( cost -4) and can always WC Salah back down the line. Probably week 9 where I would want Salah again as captain v Huddersfield.

    Salah to Hazard
    Mitrovic to Aubameyang
    BSilva to Fraser

    Foster Patricio
Alonso Van Dijk Mendy Tomkins Wan-Bissaka
    Mané Hazard Richarlison Fraser Billing
    Aguero Aubameyang Ings

    A) Daniels and Salah for Hazard and Alonso

    B) B Silva and salah for Mané and Hazard

    C) Firminho and Daniels for Alonso and Zaha

I would wait for this week to at least begin first! Salah could score a double and Firmino could regain some form and you wouldnt think of either moves. Not sure what the rush is

The first line of my post states ‘for next week’, hence not this week, thinking ahead, not making a transfer this week! My suggested variables allow for any proposed player transfer, gaining a big haul this week.

Why is everyone selling Bilva? Although he was ineffective in a wing back position on Sunday he still missed a sitter and could have got an assist or two. Feels a bit knee-jerky to sell him after the praise he received last week on here. What if he moves back into midfield and turns out to be a great option again? It’s very likely! In the CS final City played their 4-1-4-1, however Foden dropped back while Bilva pushed up supporting Kun in a 4-2-3-1. In that game he was a threat, got an assist and was at the heart of City’s attack. There’s no reason that won’t happen again (maybe without Foden). We know Pep loves him and he is the most nailed in their attack with his versatility. Also is Mendy and Aguero enough to cover City? There’s gonna be many more thrashing’s such as the 6-1 especially over the next five weeks. We know City are roll teams over and get points. We don’t know if Arsenal/Chelsea can do the same (Pedro and Mkhi). Those teams are still in transition under new managers and could struggle finding a way to break down deep teams. Is the best option to wait and see? One city midfielder could soon stand out and become nailed like Sterling from the second half of last year. Maybe Willian could become nailed unlike previous years and gain some momentum in an attacking side. Thoughts?

So don't try to predict him then. We don't know what formation he'll play or what players will start. What we do know is that Bilva is versatile, in good form, and has been praised by the manager.

The only two games i've managed to catch were city, and I can honestly say he was decent in both but supporting the play from less dangerous positions most of the time - his goal against arsenal was a bit lucky and only when he was shifted up to AMR, which won't happen as much now de Bruyne is out.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's pretty much nailed and will bring in decent points, but he's not really going to haul and micky offers better value and potential.

Also trying to fit in Ederson as my 3rd city as currently have patricio, so that 0.5 saving goes a loooong way.

Not nailed unfortunately, but played midfield last week and scored.
Not bad for a 4.0 defender.

      • 13 Years

This is the problem with 2 4.0s you’re fecked by a benching. Next transfer you need to upgrade peltier to a regular starter, even a cb. AWB will be back next so keep him.

i would stick and use the free transfers elsewhere, boly will play and maybe get you 1 or 2 points, but is also a threat from set pieces if wolves do get many corners, so could be more. That is, i would stick if you think peltier will regain his place, if not, id look to upgrade Peltier.

Well this is interesting. 187 is pretty good. Why WC now?

I’m on 161 and haven’t considered wildcarding currently - more fool me perhaps but I’m happy that my team looks not far off the WC teams I’ve been seeing anyway, with a couple of tweaks over next couple of week (eg monitoring Arsenal)

    One to watch:

    West Ham (h)
    Cardiff (a)
    Newcastle (a)

and no rotation worries due to Kola injury, he could be a great option. Bellerin might drop in place, higher ownership but could be picked up for 5.4m

If I was wild carding i think I would want one arsenal player for there nice fixtures. Easiest way i believe to cover them is with Mhiki as he is under priced. Any money itb as ideally you want to upgrade Jorginho to Mhiki

B by a long way imo. You have 12.5m in midfielders on your bench in A and it will always be a benching headache. Even this week I wouldn't so sure you're getting it right with Ings over Fraser.
