Phil Ampleford’s stellar run of six straight top 10,000 finishes, including two inside the top 1,000, was brought to a sudden end in 2017/18 when he finished 95,198th in the overall rankings.

Undaunted, he reflected on mistakes made that year and is back on track in style in the current campaign, nestled inside the top 3,000.

In our second Meet the Manager interview, Phil chats to Joe about the strategies that have earned him so many high finishes.

He also reveals what went wrong last season and how he has learned from mistakes made.

In addition, he finds time to look in-depth at his current successful squad and offer advice to other Fantasy managers about how to do well in 2018/19.

A flexible approach and close attention to defender selection, both expensive and cheap, looks key to success this time around as Phil aims to bounce back from last year’s disappointment.

The chat with Phil is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

The first Meet the Manager video, featuring Nick (aka Triggerlips) can be viewed here.

    A) Do Moura to hazard for -4 this week
    B) Moura to Richarlison for -4 this week (next week Bilva to Hazard for free)
    C) get hazard for free next week

He was pretty dangerous in his one game. 3 shots, forced a pretty good save from Cech.

Sometimes you wait a week and miss a really big haul (plus price rises). I’ve done that already this season and lost ground because of it.

Sometimes, even though it goes against everything you’re taught in FFS, you have to take hits for good players.

personnaly I would get in there early and go with my own gut feeling. I would much rather rue an average week from Hazard, than have to stare back at his possible 16 points and 0.2 price rise from elsewhere. His goal last night shows his form and class to produce from nothing.

    A) Lingard -> Richa
    B) Lingard Alonso -> Trips Son (-4)

I'd vote A. Maybe Spurs are about to turn on the juice but I haven't seen enough from them to be confident of it. And I have an irrational love for Richarlison.

Any move that involves getting rid of Alonso is a no for me. He is the highest scoring fpl player by a margin right now and his price is quite kind compared to the heavy hitters up front.

I would make move A. I wouldn't be keen on getting any Man U attackers. Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal and even spurs all much better imo for attacking players.

      Mendy to Trippier.

I’m afraid Richarlison sending off and having Pickford as my fire and forget keeper has kind of soured me on having any Everton players the rest of the way now.

Sold Pickford this week and no plans to get any of the Toffees back, regardless of how decent their fixtures are (they look poor anyway, to be honest).

Pretty confident that he plays at Huddersfield and the Barca game next week. Possible rest v Cardiff but could just be hauled off early.

Last time Poch played a full back 3 games in a row within a week? Not sure it happens, and he's nailed to play v Barcelona so only natural there's a worry here..

I agree with Saturday to be fair, only worry is Cardiff but yep you may be right just worried about Pochs constant full back rotation, but as you say IB could change that.

Yeh probably to be fair. Zero cover meant they had to though, Jan was third choice LB and he was 1st choice CB so no chance. If the two prem games were any tougher than Cardiff or Hudds wthen I wouldn't be as worried, and Barca in between after losing to Inter spells a change somewhere but could be completely wrong.

    Any of these worth it?

    A) Mane, Mendy & Wilson ➡ Richarlison, Doherty, & Kane (-8)

    B) Pereira & Billing ➡ Bennett & Richarlison (-4)

    C) Mane & Wilson ➡ Lennon & Kane (-4)

-8 sounds bad but A really tempting!

Yeah Doherty could be Duffy/Yedlin easily, but A has a chance of backfiring

after GW10 newcastle, brighton, watford & burnley offer great alternative route to cheap defenders, i'm definitely thinking about a loaded mid and attack by going cheap in defence maybe 1-2 big guns and other 3 rotating cheapos in defence something like

alonso,TAA, duffy/holebas/yedlin/tarkowski & AWB ...this is what i'll end up having probably.

what do others think of this route to a different team structure??

Brighton and Watford aren't that great defensively though and the jury is still out on Burnely.

Palace, Wolves and Newcastle for me with 2 premiums

Since Paul Pogba signed for MUN:

Games played without Pogba / Win percentage
    33 / 67%

Games played with Pogba / Win percentage
    95 / 59%

Whether one's in the Jose out or Jose in camp, Pogba is clearly a negative influence at the club both on and off the pitch!

get rid of both of them. Stinking up my beloved united.

Agree, ship out Pogba in January and if things don't dramatically improve under Jose say byebye in the Summer

In all fairness I don't think you can take these figures at face value and state he's clearly a negative influence.

You would have to look into the games, what kinda form they were in, home/away, what competition, who else was injured/not available, etc.

True of course mate but his attitude at the club obviously stinks, look how he carried himself at the world cup - chalk and cheese

Ya he shouldn't be saying what he's saying in interviews. Mourinho's as bad. Childish bickering to the media instead of sorting it out behind closed doors

A lot of this is bound to be carried out onto the pitch, toxicity like this can't be good for the team's confidence! Both to blame for sure but Jose is the manager and Pogba should cop on!

Anyone opting for Jonny over Doherty as Wolves defender?

Seems Jonny is more highly rated the Doherty overall and seems to do better in the BPS system

Rumour that Doherty is carrying a slight injury too so I'd lean towards Jonny if I didnt own Bennett

Ya tbh, I've been slightly keener on Jonny anyway based on what the fans say. The injury doesn't seem like much but it has edged things slightly further in Jonny's favour for me

Laughter shouldn't make your decision for you though. Doherty's name is being echoed around and he's a great pick but I'm not sure he's the better pick

Did Mendy to Chilwell very early.
Rivals in mini leagues can steal a match on me with Mitro and looks a more than decent pick at the price.
I got to get away from
" He plays for Fulham not going in my team" attitude. Should have got him earlier.

RPereira going out of favour is so annoying, Chilwell's a decent pick

          Mitro's excellent for the price

Both Salah and Zaha have some tough fixtures ahead is my logic...

    Is Serge Aurier okay?

I don't believe so (inhales sharply). In a cross he felt his quad. Tomorrow we'll see, but it's not a good thing.
